(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Yang Shufen, 44 years old, was a former employee of the Xishui Market in Hubei Province. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1995. After Jiang Zemin's regime began the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice and was illegally arrested by the Beijing police. Following her arrest, she was imprisoned in the Xishui Detention Center for over a month. During her imprisonment, a supervisor from the Xishui Market feared that his job would be threatened by CCP personnel for employing a Falun Gong practitioner at his business, so he fired Ms. Yang.
In 2000, Ms. Yang was arrested for practicing the Falun Gong exercises in public. She was imprisoned for over seven months beyond her original sentence at the Public Security Bureau of Xishui County.
Ms. Yang left home in 2002 in order to avoid persecution. In April 2007, plainclothes police arrested her in Wuhan City. After she was imprisoned for over a year at the Xishui Detention Center, she was sentenced to an additional eight years on a fabricated charge. Her appeal was turned down. In the beginning of September 2008, she was taken to the Wuhan Women's Prison. Since then, her family has not received any messages or information about her current situation and are deeply concerned about her safety.
