(Clearwisdom.net) The Divine Performing Arts company arrived in San Diego on January 15, 2008. Their first presentation of the Chinese New Year Spectacular in California was held at the California Center for the Arts in Escondido. Four shows were presented from January 15 to 17.
Terry Funk, who works for San Diego County, described the show: "I thought it was just beautifully performed." When asked about her impressions, she stated, "I just had an enjoyable evening, it was wonderfully performed. It was very inspirational. I'd do it again."
When the reporter told her that this was the last performance in the city, she asked, "Aren't they coming back again next year? I will come back next year." She also mentioned that she would bring friends with her the next time. When asked what she liked most, she said, "Oh, I liked the fan dancers and there was one in the beginning with the waves. I think they called it the 'Nymphs of the Seas.' I really liked that one. It was just so beautifully performed. I loved the costumes and just everything about it. It was well worth it, I think."
When she was asked about the songs and the music, she replied, "Oh, yes, the tenor was fantastic! I forgot his name, but he was wonderful. They had a baritone and a tenor and a soprano, right? And I liked the lady with the instrument, I'm not sure what that instrument is called, but it was beautiful!" She mentioned that she learned about Chinese culture from the show and said, "It was very uplifting, a great way to bring in the New Year."
Ms. Funk mentioned that the "Power of Awareness" was the most effective story and said, "Oh, the one about forbearance, I am not sure what all it was called, but I loved it. It had a great message and was beautifully performed. I'm trying to think of exactly what touched me about it, it was just very moving. How in the end the community stood up for the people that were suffering from that oppression, or from that injustice. They resisted it, everyone together resisted, it was great!"
