Taiwan: Compassion Lights up the Truth (Photos)

July 30, 2007 |

(Clearwisdom.net) Since the persecution of Falun Gong started in China in July 1999, Taiwan Falun Gong practitioners have been clarifying the truth about the persecution to Mainland Chinese tourists. Because of the misleading propaganda of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), many Mainland tourists had a negative attitude toward Falun Gong and often cursed at the Taiwan practitioners. Nevertheless, the practitioners continue to clarify the truth and their compassion has changed many tourists' opinions.

Tourists come to learn more about the persecution

Ms. Hu is a housewife who started to practice Falun Gong in 2004. Ms. Hu said, "My daughter and I were learning painting from a female teacher. The teacher was always calm and very patient. One day, after her class, she was cursed at by someone for no reason. However, she was not moved at all. I was very curious and asked her how she could be so calm. The teacher then showed me the book Zhuan Falun and said: 'Take this book with you and read it, and then you will know why.' I spent one week reading Zhuan Falun and then started to practice."

Soon after Ms. Hu started to practice Falun Gong, she learned that it was very important to clarify the truth about the practice and the persecution to Chinese people. She then decided to join the National Palace Museum truth-clarifying team. One day, she found that there were only two elderly practitioners outside the museum and she ended up being the only person who distributed truth-clarifying materials. Though she was a very new practitioner and had little experience, she tried her best. Very soon, she found herself surrounded by many Chinese tourists who criticized her or even cursed at her relentlessly. Though she was a bit frustrated, she stepped up again when the next group of Chinese came. When she was speaking aloud about the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and the tide of quitting the CCP worldwide, one man among this group started to curse at her irrationally and seemed ready to assault her. Fortunately, the man was stopped by his companions and she was not harmed.

At the end of the day, she cried very hard when she was back in her car. When she went back home, she calmed down and started to look inside. She realized that she had been relying on fellow practitioners too much and was thus not prepared to handle such situations, and she didn't have enough compassion toward these Mainland tourists. For a while, she was very reluctant to go back to the truth-clarifying site at the National Palace Museum. Through studying the Fa, she enlightened to her shortcomings. "Compared to fellow Mainland Chinese practitioners who are risking their lives to clarify the truth, my hardship was nothing," she said.

Since then, regardless of the weather conditions, Ms. Hu comes to the truth-clarifying site every Wednesday. Ms. Hu said that all her team members know that clarifying the truth at the National Palace Museum is their mission and responsibility. "When our hearts are very pure, people are ready to listen to us." She said. "For example, I handed a copy of the Nine Commentaries to a Chinese tourist who appeared to be a senior official and told him to read this precious book. My heart was very calm and the only thought I had was 'This book is priceless, so don't miss this opportunity.' The tourist accepted the book and packed it into his handbag. Upon seeing this, other members of his group all came forward to ask for this book. In just a little while, all the copies of the Nine Commentaries were taken."

As time goes by, the situation has been constantly improving. Nowadays, there are Chinese people asking the practitioners to help them quit the CCP and its affiliated organizations almost every day. Often, Chinese tourists are ready to quit the CCP with little help from the practitioners. The compassion of Falun Gong practitioners is moving the hearts of Mainland Chinese people and helping them to see the truth.
