(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Jian from Tonghua City, Jilin Province has suffered constant persecution by the Chinese Communist regime. In April 2002, a huge quantity of truth-clarification posters were put up in Suodao of Tonghua. The police suspected Mr. Zhang as a participant and issued an arrest warrant with a 5,000 yuan reward. Head of the Tonghua City Police Department Criminal Police Division Wang (called as "Chief Wang" by others) personally tortured him. For the next several years, the police never stopped persecuting him. Mr. Zhang could not stay at home safely, and so left to go from place to place without a place to live.
Mr. Zhang was first illegally arrested when he went to appeal in Beijing in October 1999. Later that same month, Liang Ping (now employed at Minzhu Police Station) of the Political and Security Section of Dongchang District Police Department in Tonghua City took him back and detained him for one month.
In 2001, Mr. Zhang went to Sipeng Town of Tonghua County to distribute truth-clarification materials and was arrested and taken to the Criminal Police Division of Tonghua City Police Department.
In April 2002, large Falun Gong posters appeared in Suodao of Tonghua City and shocked the whole province. The police suspected that Mr. Zhang was involved. They issued a warrant, listing Li Zhanwu as the No. 1 suspect, with a 20,000 yuan reward, and Mr. Zhang Jian as the No. 2 suspect, with a 5,000 yuan reward. In mid April, Mr. Zhang was taken into custody by Guaimozi Police Station of Dahuanggou, Hengren County, Liaoning Province, and sent to the Criminal Police Division of Tonghua City Police Department. When policeman Li Ji saw Mr. Zhang, he punched him in the face, causing him to spit blood out of his mouth.
In order to solve this so-called "big case," police officers arrested over a hundred Falun Gong practitioners to torture them, and try to force them to admit to their involvement in hanging the posters or report on others.
Criminal Police Division Head Wang was very vicious and sly. He personally tortured Mr. Zhang Jian and other practitioners. The torture methods included:
Wang put Falun Gong books and Master's photo between practitioners' legs or onto chairs, forcing practitioners to sit on them
He stuck cigarette lighters into practitioners' ribs (causing them pain in the ribs, which didn't heal for over a month)
He tied practitioners to metal chairs and used electric batons to shock their stomachs, causing severe burns
He tied practitioners to metal chairs, holding and pushing their heads toward their chests repeatedly, causing injuries to practitioners' backs and neck tendons
He directed others to handcuff practitioners' hands and feet to heavy metal chairs. One person would insert his hands into a practitioner's hair, holding the hair and turning and pushing it back and forth forcefully, sometimes to the point that they visibly shook the heavy chair. The practitioners lost chunks of hair and sustained bean-sized boils all over their heads.
He ordered others to insert and press two pipe-shaped pepper roots into practitioners' noses, causing the practitioners to feel the heat of the pepper roots and extreme pain throughout the whole head. After suddenly pulling out the pepper roots, blood would shoot out from the nose.
Mr. Zhang Jian could not endure the brutal torture and said that he participated in hanging the posters. However, he failed three times to identify the words on the posters. This convinced the police that Mr. Zhang in fact was not involved, and so they sent him back to Tonghua County Detention Center. Later, officers from City Police Department went to Mr. Zhang's office for a search and took his personal belongings and Falun Gong materials. Officers of the Criminal Police Division interrogated him a second time, demanding he reveal the source of the material. This time, they used electric batons, and punched and kicked him. Mr. Zhang was sent to Changliu Detention Center and was forced to do labor for 18 months. In the end, they sentenced him to three years of prison, with a grace period of five years.
Officers from Dongchang Police Station of Tonghua City also went to his home to harass him many times.
In March and June 2004, Mr. Zhang Jian was arrested twice. His family had to borrow over 20,000 yuan to pay the many fines.
On April 4, 2007, at noon time, Dongchang Police Station head Shi Yuanbo led officers Lin and seven or eight other officers to Mr. Zhang's home and knocked on the door. Mr. Zhang's mother did not open the door. The officers stayed for nearly two hours. Because Mr. Zhang and his mother were persecuted for such a long period of time, their family, in order to protect themselves, spent a lot of money to please head Jing Guiquan of the National Security Division of Dongchang District Police Department in Tonghua City. Jing Guiquan was good at deception and he deceived Mr. Zhang's family. That evening when the police knocked on the door, Mr. Zhang's father called Jing Guiquan and asked him what to do. Jing said, "If there is nothing at home to implicate you, then let them in; if there is something then don't let them in!" This made Mr. Zhang's father believe that Jing was thinking about them. The police could not open the door, and they too called Jing for direction. Jing said, "They have something at their home. Maybe we can solve a big case." So police station head Shi Yuanbo assigned officers to watch the building and side windows, while he and the other officers prepared to break down the door. The father was afraid and let them in. Once they entered, they confiscated Falun Gong books and materials, a personal computer, a printer, a hard drive, and the telephone. After they left, Jing again sent officers to take their personal satellite dish. They even took away Mr. Zhang Jian's mother (also a practitioner).
When Mr. Zhang's mother was released, the police told her, "Tell your son to return home, as everything is settled. Ask him to come to the police station for verification and then everything will be settled!" Practitioners know these are tricks played by police officers in many places. Later, Mr. Zhang's mother was sentenced to forced labor. As she later showed signs of health problems, Dongchang Police Station had to send her back home.
Currently, Mr. Zhang Jian is homeless, having had to leave his own home to avoid persecution.
