During the interrogation, they unlawfully confiscated Ms. Li's personal belongings, which included an expensive suitcase, a watch valued at 3,000-4,000 yuan, approximately 1,000 yuan in cash, her ID card, credit cards, a gift voucher valued at over 1,000 yuan, a pearl necklace, a cell phone, and a bank book with a 12,000 yuan balance.
At about 7-8 p.m., the two officers went out for dinner. They asked Ms. Li what she would like to eat. She told them a can of mixed congee would be fine.
An hour or so later, the two men returned with a can of mixed congee and a bottle of spring water. One of them opened the can for her and said, "Are you hungry? Eat this." Ms. Li replied, "I need to use the bathroom first." When Ms. Li returned, they said, "Let us move you to a warmer room." Ms. Li said, "Then I will take the congee and the water." She opened the water bottle herself, drank some, and put the cap back on.
They moved to a room facing the hallway, where Yu Haitao sat Ms. Li on a metal chair close to the door and handcuffed both her feet tightly to the chair. Then he asked her if she still wanted to eat. Yu Haitao opened the congee can and turned his back to Ms. Li so that she couldn't see what he was doing. Yu Haitao then turned back to face Ms. Li, stirred the congee with a spoon a couple of times, and told her to eat.
Ms. Li noticed the cap from the water bottle was gone, and she spotted a small empty paper bag, the same size as a sugar bag. Ms. Li told them she wasn't hungry and didn't want to eat. Yu Haitao then handed her the water and told her to drink it. Ms. Li refused. As the policemen were about to leave, Yu Haitao said in a threatening tone, "Are you thinking about writing about this after you get out?" Three policemen were posted for the night shift, and one of them said to the others, "When the division chief left, he told me to handcuff her." So they handcuffed Ms. Li to the back of the chair.
The next morning, with her strong righteous thoughts and belief in Teacher, Ms. Li Yan found a chance and walked out of the station. When she called her mother-in-law, she learned that the police had started monitoring her home just as soon as she left the police station.
During her 17 hours of detention, Ms. Li tried to talk to the police officers and explain to them the facts about Falun Gong. She told them that she hoped they would wake up and realize how the Chinese Communist Party has lied, and that they should abandon the wrong and choose the right, be kind to Falun Dafa practitioners, and choose a beautiful future for themselves and their families.
