Canberra, Australia: Anti-Torture Exhibits Expose CCP Brutality (Photos)

March 11, 2006 |

(Clearwisdom.net) During this week, practitioners staged anti-torture exhibitions at the Chinese Embassy and the Melbourne Avenue, which is close to the Australian Parliament, to expose torture methods that practitioners in China have been subjected to. Australian practitioners hope that the exhibitions will help government officials and the general public to understand what is really going on in China. In particular, they hope that the Minister of Foreign Affairs will stop signing certificates to limit practitioners' protest activities in front of the Chinese Embassy.

Falun Gong practitioners have been persecuted in China since July 20, 1999. In the past more than 6 years, practitioners around the world, including Australian practitioners, have been continually conducting peaceful protests in front of Chinese Embassies and consulates. However, Australia limits the practitioners' peaceful protest, as its Minister of Foreign Affairs has signed certificates on a monthly basis to prevent practitioners from using loudspeakers or displaying large banners outside the embassy. These certificates in fact are helping the CCP regime to persecute practitioners in China and Australia.

On March 16, 2002, Mr. Downer, the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs, signed his first certificate to prevent practitioners from using loud speakers or displaying large banners outside the embassy. It happened two days before a visit of the Chinese Communist regime's Minister of Foreign Affairs. From then on, despite the practitioners' efforts to resolve this issue, Mr. Downer has continued to sign such certificates every month. Given no other choice, practitioners have submitted a lawsuit against Mr. Downer to the ACT Supreme Court. The lawsuit is now being processed.

Falun Gong is an ancient Chinese practice of self-improvement. The practice can bring practitioners health and inner peace. Including a sitting meditation, the five sets of exercises of Falun Gong are suitable for all ages. Today, Falun Gong is practiced in around 80 countries with tens of millions of practitioners who follow the universal principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" in their daily lives. Falun Gong was first introduced to the public in China by Mr. Li Hongzhi in 1992 and then quickly gained popularity through word of mouth. Before the persecution started in 1999, Falun Gong received wide support from the Chinese government and social groups. The Chinese government also conducted surveys that confirmed the mind and body benefits of Falun Gong.

In July 1999, Jiang Zemin, the then head of the CCP, launched the persecution against Falun Gong in China. According to the Falun Dafa Information Center, the persecution has caused the deaths of more than 2,800 practitioners, imprisonment of more than 6,000 with sentences ranging up to 18 years, and the unlawful arrest and detention of hundreds of thousands. Australian Falun Gong practitioners have not been spared from the persecution, as four relatives of naturalized Australian citizens have been persecuted to death in China. Among them, Ouyang Ming was killed in August 2003. From January 2001 to August 2003, Ming was arrested four times and brutally tortured for his belief in Falun Gong.

Dr. Liu, a friend of Ming's brother in Australia, join other practitioners every Sunday to do the Falun Gong exercises and raise awareness of the persecution outside the Chinese Embassy in Canberra. They want to tell the public what Falun Gong is and that the CCP is persecuting the practice. For the very same reason, they have held anti-torture exhibitions. Dr. Liu said that the peaceful protest in front of the Chinese Embassy will continue until the persecution ends.
