(Clearwisdom.net) In response to Irish Senator Joe O'Toole's invitation, Mr. David Kilgour, the former Canadian Secretary of State (Asia -Pacific) visited Ireland on November 23rd, 2006. During his visit, Mr. Kilgour delivered a speech to the Foreign Affairs Joint Committee of the Irish House of the Oireachtas (Parliament). He also met Ms. Moylan, the Director General of Asia and Pacific of the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and had a constructive conversation. RTE (a public Irish National TV and Radio network) and the Irish Times reported on Kilgour's visit in detail.
RTE interviewed David Kilgour on the Chinese Communist regime's atrocities of harvesting organs from Falun Gong practitioners |
At 10:00 a.m. November 23, a hearing on organ harvesting was held at the House of the Oireachtas at Leinster House. Dr. Michael Woods, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Joint Committee, welcomed Mr. Kilgour and three Falun Gong practitioners. Senator Joe O'Toole introduced Mr. David Kilgour and his independent report on the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners, and hoped that Mr. Kilgour's speech would have a big impact on stopping this brutal persecution.
During the meeting, Mr. Kilgour presented a new piece of evidence: He interviewed a 35-year-old man who received a kidney transplant at Shanghai No. 1 People's Hospital in 2003. The man -- whose name and nationality were withheld -- told Kilgour that his surgeon was Dr. Tan Jianming, who is Secretary General of the Chinese Research Society of Dialysis and Transplantation. In addition to Dr. Tan's high-profile medical affiliation, he also holds top posts in a number of Chinese military and civilian hospitals.
Kilgour said that the man apparently suffered from an antibody condition that made it difficult to find a suitable kidney. However, four separate kidneys were brought to him and tested over an eight-day period. When none of those eight kidneys worked, Dr. Tan tried another four kidneys three months later, and finally found a fit with the eighth kidney.
David Kilgour pointed out that the persecution of Falun Gong started in July 1999 and large scale organ transplantation started around 2000 to 2001. From 2000 to 2005, based on official data published by the Chinese authorities, Kilgour said that there were 41,500 organs from unidentified sources and it was highly possible that such organs were seized from Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong had been labeled as "Enemy of the Party" by then-leader Jiang Zemin and practitioners were consequently considered as profitable commercial products rather than human beings.
Kilgour also talked about his interview with organ harvesting witnesses along with attorney David Matas, and their effort to verify a phone investigation. For example, he interviewed the ex-wife of a surgeon who removed many practitioners' corneas and learned about many details such as when doctors started to remove practitioners' organs and how many such operations had been performed. Those verified phone investigation showed that some Chinese hospitals frankly acknowledged that they had young and health organs from Falun Gong practitioners ready for transplant patients.
After Mr Kilgour's presentation, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Dongxue Dai spoke. She first thanked Dr. Michael Woods, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Joint Committee, for arranging such an opportunity to further expose the CCP's organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners. She then narrated her family story: Her father was a doctor and was fired for telling the truth during the so-called "Three-year Natural Disaster'' (1959-1961, when tens of millions Chinese citizens were starved to death due to government policy while the Chinese regime later attributed the calamity to a trumped-up natural disaster in order to dodge responsibility. People including a PLA general who dared to tell the truth during that period were relentless persecuted). Thereafter he was forced to become a street vendor to support the family; her two sisters were locked in labor camps for their belief in Falun Dafa and her mother died of grief and indignation; Ms. Dai herself was refused an extension to her passport by the CCP because she practices Falun Gong and was prevented from attending her mother's funeral.
Several TDs (member of the Irish Parliament) then took turn to speak. In their speeches, Labour Party spokesman TD Michael Higgins, TD Allan Bernard, Independent TD Catherine Murphy as well as the Independent Senator David Norris all expressed their concern about the accusation of harvesting organs from living people and hoped that a further effort could be made to stop this crime.
Dafa practitioner Ms. Dongxue Dai told the TDs: Regarding the organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners by the CCP, some western governments and media still have doubts and this is because they don't full understand the evil nature of the CCP. If they knew that the CCP's nature is cruel and evil, and it maintains its tyranny by violence, they wouldn't have such doubts. For instance, the CCP brainwashes people with violence and struggle from kindergarten up, while wiping out traditional Chinese culture and universal values of peace, benevolence and human harmony. Because the CCP will have no means to exist if these values and philosophy exist in the Chinese people's hearts, the CCP has tried everything possible to destroy traditional Chinese culture.
At the end of the hearing, Dr. Michael Woods said that Mr. Kilgour's report "made for compelling reading." Dr. Woods said, "Although the report didn't prove any of the allegations made," it did "raise serious questions which must be addressed." Dr. Woods called on the Chinese authorities to "allow an independent investigation to establish once and for all the veracity of these allegations." Dr. Woods said that the committee will request the Chinese Ambassador to Ireland to answer questions about the organ harvesting and will write to the Foreign Minister to make further inquiries.
At 3:00 p.m., Mr. Kilgour met with Ms. Isolde Moyland, the Director General of Asia and Pacific for the Irish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their meeting lasted almost two hours.
Around 6:00 p.m., RTE Radio interviewed David Kilgour. The Irish Times later published an article about the hearing, and RTE TV also reported on the hearing in detail.
