(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Zhang Yingjie was born in 1947 at Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. He learned Falun Dafa in 1995 and was very happy that all of his illnesses disappeared without treatment. He went to Beijing to help clarify the truth when the persecution of Dafa began, being there for the "April 25" appeal and on July 20, 1999. Mr. Zhang was arrested in 2000 when he was validating the Fa at Tiananmen Square, and he was severely beaten before being sent to a local detention center. He suffered more brutal beatings when he refused to give his name [note: due to the Chinese Communist Party's policy of implicating and persecuting family members, associates and work units, Dafa practitioners often refuse to give their name when they are arrested]. After constant inhuman torture, Mr. Zhang finally revealed his name, and on January 8, 2001 he was sent to the Shisanli Detention Center in Zhangjiakou City for three months. He was dismissed from his job at the Zhangjiakou Coal Factory while he was detained. After his release, the local police frequently came to his house to harass and threaten him. Under this long-term harassment and financial pressure, Mr. Zhang's old illness re-surfaced and he died on July 18, 2006, at the age of 59.
Ms. Bai Fengying, 80, was a staff member of the Children's Center of Zhangjiakou Coal Factory, Hebei Province. She began Falun Dafa practice in 1995 and became healthy and free of the illnesses she had suffered before. Her whole family, including her son, daughter and granddaughter, were all practitioners. After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, the local police frequently harassed and terrorized her family, and she lived in constant and extreme fear. Her son was forced to retire early, her daughter was illegally arrested, and her granddaughter had a miscarriage while she was being mistreated for going to Beijing to validate the Fa. The coal factory in Zhangjiakou pressured many practitioners to give up cultivation, and deliberately dismissed over ten practitioners. Under extreme distress and terror, Ms. Bai died unexpectedly on November 20, 1999.
Mr. Yang Zhifang, 67, was from Zhanqian District in Yingkou City, Liaoning Province. On January 6, 2001, he was "illegally detained" at the Yingkou Detention Center for over two months. During those two months, he was tortured so severely that his weight was dramatically reduced from over 90 kilograms (198 lbs.) to about 60 kilograms (132 lbs.), causing his life to be in danger. After being extorted out of 5,000 yuan, Mr. Yang was released on bail for medical treatment. When he went home, the local police regularly disturbed and harassed him at his home and threatened to interrogate and lock him up again when he was better. To free himself from the ongoing persecution, in October 2004 he left home and had to move from place to place. Even so, he couldn't break free from being monitored, so he had to move five times in the next two years. The persecution created a harsh environment that was detrimental to Mr. Yang's mental and physical health. He suffered a heart attack and died in October, 2006.
