United Nations: Report of the Special Rapporteur on the Right to Freedom of Opinion and Expression, Part 2 [Excerpt]

On 15 July 2004, the Special Rapporteur, jointly with the Special Rapporteur on the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health, the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, its causes and consequences and the Special Rapporteur on the question of torture, sent an urgent appeal concerning:

(Clearwisdom.net) The United Nations' annual report on torture covered reliable and credible allegations and summaries of tortures from all countries in the world. The addendum to the report of the Special Rapporteur contains, on a country-by-county basis, summaries of reliable and credible allegations of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment that were brought to the attention of the Special Rapporteur, and were transmitted to the Governments concerned. It also contains replies from Governments.

Gong Piqi and Wife Sun Dongxia Arrested and Home Ransacked in Qingdao City, Shandong Province (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) Practitioners Mr. Gong Piqi and his wife Sun Dongxia were arrested illegally two months ago. Ms. Sun Dongxia, who may have been sentenced to a ten-year prison term, is currently in the detention center and suffering from maltreatment. Mr. Gong Piqi is currently detained in the brainwashing class and has become so weak that he is unable to walk without help from others. More details of their case follow:
