[ClearHarmony.net, Bangkok / Maastricht, May 31- 2005] Peter Valk, a 28-year-old Dutch man from Woerden, was arrested in his hotel room by 15 Chinese secret agents on the night of May 24. He was forced into a car with his head between his knees under a blanket and taken to the local 610 Office. After two and a half days of detention he was put on a plane to Thailand on May 28. The only reason for his arrest: Peter practices Falun Gong, a meditation practice for mind and body.
His family in Holland and the Dutch embassy in China were not informed of his arrest by the Chinese authorities. Only after arriving in Thailand could Peter call his family in Holland. Peter thinks he was arrested because he talked to Chinese people about the persecution of Falun Gong and because he carried Falun Gong materials with him. During his interrogation, he was sometimes told he would be released, but he was also threatened with being sent to a Chinese labor camp for several years. One police officer told him that if he had been Chinese, it would have been very unlikely that he would not get at least three years in a labor camp or be tortured.
Peter Valk is the fourth Dutch Falun Gong practitioners to be arrested in China. Earlier this year the Chinese-Dutch Mona Tang was also taken out of her bed in the middle of the night by eight secret agents in southern China. She was released thanks to the mediation of the Dutch embassy in Beijing. In 2002, two Dutch Falun Gong practitioners were violently arrested on Tiananmen Square, expelled, and put on a plane to Holland. That it can be worse can be told from the experience of Irish Falun Gong practitioner Zhao Ming, who was released on pressure of the Irish authorities only after 22 months of enduring horrible torture, such as repeated shocks from electric batons.
Why was Peter Valk arrested and why is Falun Gong, after six years, still being persecuted in China? The CCP wants to be able to control the minds of the Chinese people completely, which they already have for dozens of years. The principles of Falun Gong, Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, do not fit within this template of total control. Experience has shown that the Chinese Communist Party doesn't refrain from cunningness and deception to protect its power and control. In China, people are overwhelmed with propaganda defaming Falun Gong on TV and in the media. Other examples of the CCP's need for total control are the repression of the student protests on June 4th 1989 and the recent attempt to block an independent broadcast satellite above China. Recently an independent Chinese newspaper, the Epoch Times, successfully revealed the true nature of the CCP in a comprehensive 9 article commentary (Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party), which has already led to 2 million resignations from the CCP, and this number is still increasing daily.
