The Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp is located in Baoding District, Hebei Province. The Number Five Women's Unit of the camp was established by the "610 Office"* specifically to brainwash Falun Gong practitioners. In 2003, the unit was ranked "number one" in the nation in "reforming" Falun Gong practitioners.

The policemen of the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp disregard human rights and decency, and severely persecute the practitioners. Why do the officers use every means imaginable to brainwash practitioners? For every "reformation" they are given a bonus. Wickedness and viciousness permeate the labor camp.

Many times the personnel of "Focus Interview," a CCTV (China Central TV) program, have visited and interviewed the labor camp personnel. Colluding with the reporters, the policemen put on a facade to hide the persecution from the public. Contrary to what the TV program reported, there are no "Learning Reformation Classes." The show reported that the new buildings were for "reformation classes," but very often one could hear screams of pain coming from the buildings in the middle of the night.

On April 11, 2001, practitioner Ms. Liu Haiqin, approximately 40 years old and from Handan City, former Deputy Director General of the Finance Bureau, fell unconscious from torture at the Fifth Unit. After a seven-day hunger strike, Liu Haiqin was forced to maintain a squatting position for a very long time. This is a common form of torture. The buttocks cannot be lowered down, and both hands are handcuffed behind the back. If the buttocks are even a little low, the guards immediately beat and shock the practitioners with electric batons. At the end of the torture session, Lui's face had been hit so much that it was completely swollen and unrecognizable. They had continuously tortured her for three days. We have confirmed that Liu Haiqin is still comatose due to this torture.

On April 12, 2001, five Falun Gong practitioners began a hunger strike to protest the cruel torture. The policemen responded by force-feeding the practitioners with feces, which caused them serious stomach infections, high fevers of 104 degrees and low blood pressure, placing their lives in great danger. Since the beginning of 2003, the camp has made the force-feeding worse and worse. Each day they force-feed the practitioners twice and have increased the amount for each session. The practitioners constantly suffer from vomiting and diarrhea.

During the cold winter months, regardless of how old the female practitioners were, they were driven to an open field. There, they were forced to sit on the icy ground or lie down in the snow. The police would cover the practitioners' legs, heads, and necks with snow. Then, they took cooked hot pepper, and filled up the female practitioners' mouths, noses and spread it all over their faces. Even the bus driver and unit chief Fong participated in the persecution. The torture lasted from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sometimes they tortured practitioners overnight with many other cruel methods, but they could not defeat the practitioners' righteous thoughts.

The fifth unit police captain Cheng used electric batons to hit and shock practitioners' heads, noses, mouths, necks, hands, and feet. They even stuck needles into the slits of the toes and ran electricity through the needles to shock the practitioners. They used firecracker fuses to burn the soles of practitioners' feet. They hit practitioners with wooden rods on the tops of their feet and twisted the practitioners' toes with pliers. Very often, practitioners had to be carried back to their cells, their entire bodies covered with injuries. The practitioners' were shocked in the face, and their skin peeled off from the burns. A prison guard even asked prisoners to pinch the practitioners' thighs and nipples...

The policemen in the camp responsible for the persecution include Yang Zemin and Ye Shuxian.
