[Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Lawless Officials Deprive Dafa Practitioners' Children of Their Right to an Education

Harbin City authorities did not allow Falun Gong practitioners' children to take the college entrance examination in 2002. This illegal policy will be continued in 2003. Many practitioners' children actually didn't practice, but they were still deprived of their right to take the examination just because their parents practiced Falun Gong. Furthermore, in a county of Harbin City, Dafa practitioners' relatives, including practitioner's brother or sister's families, have not been allowed to join the army since 2001.

Because the guards of the Wanjia Forced Labor Camp fully realize that the so-called "transformation" is totally invalid, they still continue the so-called "test" of practitioners and try to make them write the "three statements" under high pressure. [Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write these as proof that they have given up their belief. Created by the "610 Office," the three statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners.]

In December, the lawless policemen gathered Dafa practitioners and forced them to say derogatory things about Teacher. Otherwise, they would be dragged upstairs to be "tied by ropes and hung up," which is an extremely brutal and excruciating torture.

[Northeast China] Dafa Banners Fly on Both Sides of the Streets in front of Detention Centers

Recently in a city in northeast China, Dafa practitioners hung up many Dafa banners such as "Falun Dafa is Good" at several parks and farm markets, on both sides of the streets in front of the police department's detention center and the city's detention center. Within 500 meters of the detention centers, red Dafa banners could be seen everywhere, such as on trees and telegraph poles.

At about 10:00 p.m. on January 13, when Dafa practitioners Liu Qingchun and Wang Yaping, from Xiajiapo Village, Qingyuan County, Fushun City, Liaoning Province, went to Dasanjiazi Village in Kaiyuan County to deliver truth-clarifying materials, they were arrested by officers from Litai Town's Police Precinct in Kaiyuan County. Now they are being tortured.

[Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province] Persecution of Dafa Practitioner Cai Huilian

On January 16, 2000 (Chinese lunar calendar) policemen ordered Ms. Cai Huilian, who was at work, to go to the police department for the purpose of gathering some information from her. On arriving at the police department, she was handcuffed and remained in the outdoor hallway of the Political and Security Department for four days and nights. She was not allowed to fetch clean clothes from home. It rained and was windy during those days. No one gave her a blanket or any food. Cai Huilian felt hungry and cold, so she found a piece of cardboard to sit on, but the policemen kicked it out from under her. One of her hands was handcuffed to the banisters. As a result, that wrist was swollen and painful. On the fifth day the policemen lied to her and another practitioner, saying that they would be released, but they were actually taken to a detention center for 22 days.

In the detention center the guards forced them to recite the detention rules every day. If they did not comply they would be abused immediately. The guards also forced them to read a Dafa-slandering newspaper and took them to the place where they had posted truth-clarifying materials to take their photos.

While the practitioners were in detention, the policemen opened practitioners' homes with the practitioners' keys. Cai Hulian and two other practitioners were taken home to be photographed. The policemen also tried to find Dafa truth-clarifying materials and books at these homes, but they did not get any. Then they took Ms. Cai and other practitioners back to the detention center.

[Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Shameful Deeds by Zhang Deming and Wang Xianyou, Heads of Xinzhou District's Wangji "610 Office;" Falun Dafa Practitioners Arrested

During the 16^th National Party Congress, Zhang Deming and Wang Xianyou from Xinzhou District's Wangji "610 Office," [An agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems] Xinzhou District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, relentlessly harassed and arrested practitioners. They took practitioner Mr. Zhang Xiaobing, an elementary school teacher, to the Liuji brainwashing class. When he was arrested, the school principal came on the scene and said to the "610 Office" persons, "You cannot arrest people at will." The policemen shouted loudly, "If you dare to say this again we will arrest you, too."

People who knew the details said Zhang Xiaobing had not done anything against the law, but he was nevertheless arrested. Zhang Xiaobing suffered torture and persecution in the brainwashing class, but he did not give up his belief in Falun Dafa. Later on he took a chance and escaped. Now he is leading a homeless life, and no one knows his whereabouts.

[Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Trauma Experienced by Falun Dafa Practitioner Chen Zhihui, Former Director, Teaching Affairs Section from Xinzhou District's Kongbutiwei School

In July 2000, Mr. Chen Zhihui, former director of the Teaching Affairs Section in Xinzhou District's Kongbutiwei School, Wuhan City, went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. He was later sent back and fined 10,000 Yuan. [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China, in rural areas it is 200 Yuan.] What was so incongruous was the issuing of a specific "red letter" document, claiming that 5,000 Yuan of the fine was necessary because Chen went to appeal. The other 5,000 Yuan was assessed because Chen's wife, a non-practitioner, didn't "monitor" her husband.

During the New Year's holiday of 2002, Mr. Chen Zhihui once again went to Beijing to appeal, where he was tortured and later sent back and fined. He was also fired from his employment position for persisting in his practice of Falun Dafa in the detention center and was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor. At present, Mr. Chen is forced to live in as a homeless person to avoid further persecution.

At around 6:30 p.m. on October 31, 2002, without any warrant, a dozen lawless personnel from the Bajiaotang Police Department, headed by department director Shu Guibao, station director Wen Xiangcheng, Political Committee director Hu Shouxian and Chen Mingqing broke into and ransacked Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhou Huaying's home. They confiscated a large amount of Dafa books, Dafa-related materials, CDs and cash and took the practitioner away.

Dafa practitioner Mr. Pan Yonggang is 33 years old. He was just released after the year of forced labor he endured from 2001 to 2002. On December 10, 2002, officers from the Dayou Police Station arrested him while he was distributing truth-clarifying materials. Now his whereabouts are unknown.

[Xichang City, Gansu Province] Arrest of Dafa Practitioner Yang Bangqun from Huili County

In December 2002, police arrested 42-year-old Dafa practitioner Ms. Yang Bangqun from Huili County and held her for a week simply because in May of 2002, she had helped fellow-practitioners who were homeless. Police extorted more than 1,000 Yuan from her family members.
