Some Thoughts on Clarifying the Truth Regarding Bringing Jiang to Trial

I have some experiences in clarifying the truth that relate to the article "Understanding Jiang Zemin's Persecution as the Most Wicked Ever in History" published at Clearwisdom.net website on December 10, 2003. Below are some of my understandings. Please kindly point out any inadequacy as you may find.

In the first subheading of the article, "The Origin of the Problem", it was mentioned that "during our efforts to sue Jiang Zemin, many members of the general public have not supported the lawsuits wholeheartedly." It also quoted from some people in the area of public service that "We think your goal is no more than to win the support of the general public ... and it appears that you have already attained this goal." With regard to this, I feel that we probably should overcome a barrier in our own understanding. When I just started clarifying the facts, I ran into this scenario. I kept telling the facts, and kept telling until the listener finally understood. He then asked why I was doing this, why he needed to know the facts, and why this was relevant to him. I was embarrassed as if I begged for his sympathy, bordering on a sense of guilt. But, I knew in my heart that was not so, the reason I was telling him the facts was for him to have a great future.

After running into this situation, I kept thinking about it in the subsequent Fa study and process of truth clarification. I found out that in my daily life, work, and study, I am inclined to ask why. And I won't move forward unless I have had a satisfactory answer. This habit has benefited me in ordinary life and helped me avoid putting in efforts in vain. However, it appears to me today that this line of thinking is in itself a hard to detect, mutated notion. This has also manifested in my learning the Fa. Often, I have had in mind some hidden thoughts of using Dafa as a means to reach my own end, a tendency of selectively assimilating to Dafa, and unwillingness to give up some attachments. In other words, I can't always place Dafa ahead of everything else, completely give up myself, my selfishness, and believe in Teacher wholeheartedly.

After realizing these and rectifying myself, whenever running into people who ask me the same question, I have a very straightforward answer. It is for his benefit and good conscience. We live in an information age, and people think about issues independently. No one should be misled by propaganda on important issues (such as Falun Gong).

To clarify the truth related to the lawsuits against Jiang seems, on the surface, to be telling others about the persecution, to expose the lies, to gain support from others, and to punish the evil and win over people's hearts. But, fundamentally this is not the case. Clarifying the truth about the lawsuits against Jiang in fact is offering salvation to people, waking them up so that they too can uphold the good, suppress the evil and restore the righteous state of living. The result will be for people to be guided by the correct understanding of the importance of upholding justice in this human environment.

Just as I started learning Dafa with the purpose of "returning to one's true self," which is a personal goal, it is almost impossible for someone to support what he regards irrelevant to him. He has to have his goal, or at least has his belief in upholding justice. As Fa-rectification has been carried out to this day, we no longer have the attachment of gaining public support, or have the attachment of realizing anything by relying on others. I think it is alright, once we have clarified the truth, to tell others that we hope they make the right decision, regarding their own conscience, which is the basis of existence of human beings.

By the way, the lawsuits against Jiang are very helpful when it comes to clarifying the facts and offering salvation to sentient beings. We have to make it clear that even if someone insists that we are to "win over people," it's not that we want to become a political force. Instead we are helping people win back their own hearts from the lies and propaganda, and to help them establish their great future.

In addition, that we are being asked this question also reflects the overall problem that exists in our cultivation. So personally, I feel we need to look within ourselves. Everything that happens today is driven by our own attachments. Although the old forces have taken advantage of this, that's still because we have attachments. Otherwise they would have run out of tricks.

For example, isn't it that among our practitioners, we hope others can help and support us as if we are among them? If so, it is a question of fundamental seriousness, a question of the magnitude of whether we have a clear understanding of Dafa, whether we are clear on the point that clarifying the truth is to offer salvation to sentient beings.

To understand the principles, we have Teacher pulling us up from above, and it's not that hard. But whether we can do it all depends on ourselves. It is really hard to remain diligent each and every minute. Let us take encouragement from what Teacher has said,

"When it's impossible to bear you can bear it. When it's impossible to do, you can do it." (Zhuan Falun, 2001)
