(Clearwisdom.net, November 9, 2003) On October 27, Wu Guanzheng, one of the standing members of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party, visited the Cypriot Parliament. Wu Guanzheng is one of Jiang Zemin's main accomplices in his persecution of Falun Gong, directly implementing Jiang's directive to destroy Falun Gong and causing the deaths of over 816 Falun Gong practitioners to date. As Secretary of the Party Committee of Shandong Province, he ordered his subordinates to attack Falun Gong. Wu is chiefly responsible for the brutal persecution inflicted on Falun Gong practitioners in Shandong Province. According to incomplete statistics, 93 Falun Gong practitioners in Shandong Province have died as a result of persecution.
Among the victims is Zhao Jinhua, a resident of Zhaoyuan City in Shandong Province, who was the first practitioner reported as dying as a result of the persecution. On October 7, 1999, Ms. Zhao was brutally beaten to death by the local police. Another victim was 59-year-old Chen Zixiu, a resident of Weifang City, whose death was reported by the Wall Street Journal. After her unlawful arrest on February 16, 2000, Mrs. Chen was continuously tortured with electric batons and goads [sharp, pointed sticks used for driving cattle] on her legs, back and neck. She was also forced to crawl barefoot over snow until she fainted. She never regained consciousness. She had only been imprisoned for five days before her death.
Falun Gong practitioners from the UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece and Australia arrived in Cyprus to represent the persecuted practitioners and to tell people about the brutal persecution and genocide in China. They called on Wu Guanzheng to immediately stop his persecution.
The Falun Gong practitioners staged peaceful demonstrations outside the hotel where Wu was staying in and outside the Cypriot Parliament. After learning the facts of the persecution, local police, security guards, media and residents were shocked and showed their support for human rights and justice in different ways. Cypriot human rights attorney Mr. Laris Vrahimis commented, the world is looking on and they know what is happening in China. The Jiang regime will pay for its crimes.
