On August 25, 2002, the Xinhua News Agency and the "Focus Interview" program on China Central Television (CCTV) reported on a murder case that occurred in the City of Xianyang, Shaanxi Province. The case involved two women, Lin Chunmei and Wen Yuping, both from Xinxiang Province. On March 1, they strangled Mai Xinping, a maid at Hongbin Hotel in Xianyang City, killing her. The Xinhua News Agency and the Focus Interview program falsely reported the murderers as "Falun Gong practitioners," slandering and libeling Falun Gong.

Ironically, in the midst of their absurd lies, the "journalists" were disseminating positive information about Falun Gong without realizing what they were doing so.

First, let's examine the reporter's words from the Focus Interview program, "At present, this case is still under investigation." In short, although the facts in the Xianyang murder case have not been confirmed, the state-controlled news media outlets are eager to fabricate a story blaming Falun Gong.

Quotes from the original interviews:

Xinhua News agency:

"Practitioners cannot kill living beings. Why do you kill people?"

Focus Interview:

"Your teacher, Mr. Li Hongzhi, has said that a cultivator cannot kill living beings. Isn't your behavior a type of killing?"

The journalists from these two large news providers stated that Falun Gong practitioners are not allowed to kill living beings. This is a ground-breaking improvement, since Mainland reporters were previously prohibited from stating this. These two large news providers simultaneously changed their viewpoints. Good cannot be constrained by evil. The power of truth is dissipating the lies!

The Focus Interview program was fabricated:

The audience could easily discern that the entire interview was scripted, and they could also see and hear the clumsiness of the "actors" when they were reciting their story. Due to limitation of space, here are just a few examples of the obvious propaganda:

First, the interviewer asked what was the motive for the killing. Wen Yuping replied first and said, "It came from the book," but then said, "I did it based on my understanding."

The interviewer immediately asked a prepared, slanted question, "Are those the original words from your teacher?"

Wen replied, "Perhaps...maybe."

Obviously, we can see that Wen Yuping was vague and contradictory when she stated, "It came from the book," then saying, "It was based on my understanding." However, the journalist slanted his questions to blame Falun Gong. That is why he prodded Wen with the question, "Are those the original words from your teacher?" Wen had wavered about how to answer the question, but she had to respond. Thus, Wen said, "Perhaps...maybe." What kind of pressure are they using to coerce Wen Yuping?

Second, during the interview Wen Yuping said that she wanted to "send dead people to heaven to enjoy the good life." The journalist immediately corrected her to say "save"instead of "sent." Wen then corrected herself. Apparently, Wen did not learn her lines well enough during rehearsal, so the interviewer, like an acting coach, corrected her delivery.

Third, Wen Yuping and the other culprit are not practitioners. During the program, these two criminals' statements did not make any sense from a practitioner's perspective. They arbitrarily used one sentence from one part of the book and a sentence from another place to distort the meaning of the Falun Dafa's teachings. The tactic: twist the meaning of statements after taking them out of context.

They also did not know very basic things about Falun Dafa. For example, during the interview, one of the two stated that Wen Yuping was the "first" disciple of our Teacher and cultivated alone with him at a remote location. Mr. Li Hongzhi has never taken any individual practitioner to cultivate with him alone, and in Zhuan Falun, the primary text of Falun Dafa, Mr. Hongzhi states, "All are disciples, no matter when they are initiated into the school." Everyone is treated equally. There is no "rank" in Falun Dafa. We can easily discern that the two criminals do not know even the most basic facts about the practice of the Falun Dafa.

If they are not practitioners, then the evil purpose of the program is very obvious - slander Falun Dafa with a fake story.

Falun Gong practitioners are not allowed to kill living beings: that is a true statement. Even though the Xinhua News Agency and the China Central TV network have repeatedly produced innumerable versions of fake stories, they still cannot change the principle that Falun Gong practitioners are not allowed to kill living beings. For more than three years, China's state-run news medias have fabricated evil campaigns, slanderously stating that Falun Dafa practitioners have committed suicide, killed their own relatives, and killed complete strangers. This tactic is pitiful, evil and ill conceived.
