[Beijing] Many Practitioners Arrested Before "7.20" Anniversary
Before the "7.20" anniversary this year, many practitioners who were on a list of known practitioners kept by the police in Xuanwu District, Anzhen, Fuwai and Liupukang Areas were arrested, including some who had given in earlier and renounced their beliefs. In the Asian Games Village area, the police started to abduct practitioners in the middle of the night on the 17th. This appeared to be a citywide operation by the police.

[Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] The "610 Office" Increases Staff and Sends More Practitioners to Brainwashing Classes
Recently, a so-called "Keeping up with the crackdown of Falun Gong" meeting was held in Jinzhou City. Liu Zhiqiang, Vice Party Secretary of the city, and Liu Wei, Deputy Mayor, gave speeches at the meeting. According orders from higher authorities, all Party members and cadres who practice Falun Gong are to be discharged from their posts while ordinary workers and citizens who practice Falun Gong are to be sent through brainwashing and forced labor. Whoever is found distributing or putting up Falun Gong literature is to be jailed without exception. In order to further persecute Falun Gong practitioners, the municipal "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) increased its staff. Jia Ningchao, the general secretary of the municipal Political and Judiciary Committee, is acting as the office director. A brainwashing center has been established with the purpose of forcing practitioners to give up their beliefs. Every working unit and neighborhood office is required to collect the names of Falun Dafa practitioners who are still persisting in their cultivation. Many practitioners' names have been collected by the authorities.
Officers from the City Administrative Branch and the Ling'an Neighborhood Office actively cooperate with the "610 Office." Presently about eleven Falun Dafa practitioners from that area have been sent to brainwashing classes. On the morning of July 15, Wang Lifeng from the City Administrative Branch was arrested. Five policemen from the municipal "610 Office," No. 7 Police Division and the Longjiang Police Station of Ling'he District carried her onto the police car and sent her to the brainwashing center. Some practitioners were forced to leave their home to avoid further persecution. One female practitioner refused steadfastly to give in and persisted in clarifying the truth the "610 Office" staff. She was later sent to a detention center.
[Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Falun Dafa Practitioner Abducted While Looking After Her Elderly Mother
Under the instructions of the "610 Office," the police in Jinzhou City are frenziedly arresting Falun Dafa practitioners and sending them to brainwashing centers. If practitioners don't give in, they are sent to the detention center. Zhou Hualin, a policeman from the Jinhua Police Station, together with some other policemen, abducted Dafa practitioner Zhou Hua while she was feeding her elderly mother in the hospital. She was then sent to the brainwashing class. Since Zhou Hua didn't cooperate with the brainwashing and denounced the criminal behavior of Li Xiejiang, the head of the "610 Office," she was sent to the detention center that same night. As of July 24, she has been on hunger strike for 10 days.

[Kaifeng City, Henan Province] Persecution Cases in Qi County
The authorities in Qi County are brutally persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners who remain firm in their belief.
Zhang Mingtong, male, 38 years old, is from Shawo Village of Shawo Township. In May of 2000, he went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa, where he was arrested and beaten by the police. He was then escorted back to Qi County. In August of 2000, he was sentenced to three years of forced labor re-education. He is currently detained in the forced labor camp in Mi County, where he is being subjected to torture.
Ma Guoliang, male, 43 years old, works in the Security Section of the Chemical Fertilizer Plant in Qi County. In July of 2001, he went to Tiananmen Square to unfurl a Falun Dafa banner. He was arrested and transferred to the local police station in his hometown. He was detained until the end of June in 2002. Then the local court sentenced him to three years of forced labor camp. However, the labor camp refused to accept him, so he was then taken back to the detention center in Qi County.
On July 19, 2002, three Falun Dafa practitioners were sentenced to jail. They were detained in jail for almost a year before the sentence. Yang Hongren and Li Junxia were each sentenced to ten years in prison, and Geng Hongli was sentenced to seven years.

Lu Shuangfu, a policeman from the Baimiao Forced Labor Camp in Zhengzhou City, persecutes steadfast Falun Dafa practitioners with various treacherous means. In order to "transform" Dafa practitioners, he uses both coercion and deceit. He arranges their family members to visit practitioners, crying and raising an uproar. He employs former practitioners who have turned away from Dafa to help transform practitioners. He even deceives practitioners by saying, "If you give up, I am going to learn the practice." When Dafa practitioner Liu Zhanfeng refused to give in, Lu Shuangfu shocked him with electric batons many times at an office.

Police from Fengrun District broke into a Falun Dafa practitioner's home during the night, arrested the practitioner, pushed around his family members and turned the home upside down.
[Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Police Treacherously Pretend to Be Practitioners
Recently, the police in Tangshan Area made use of a group of students who have just graduated from Armed Police School to arrest Falun Dafa practitioners. Those students pretended to be practitioners, and they tried to borrow Falun Dafa books or ask for truth-clarifying materials from those who didn't know their background by say that their books and materials were confiscated. Some practitioners believed their lies and were arrested.
[Zhengzhou City, Henan Province] Natural Disasters Serve as Warnings to People
Right before July 20, 2002, a new round of intensified persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners was carried out in Zhengzhou City. On July 19, a thunderstorm with strong wind and hail assaulted the city, and many people were injured. Crops were severely damaged, while transportation and communication were paralyzed. Other property damage was also quite severe. Some elderly people in the area said that they had never seen such big hail before. Could this be a warning from the heavens?
