(Clearwisdom.net) Teacher pointed out in "Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Boston" that,
How can we study the Fa well? Why is it that even though we read the books and new articles almost every day, and try hard to reach Teacher's requirement of "attaining naturally without pursuit," we still can not do well in conformity with the Fa's requirement when we meet conflicts or specific problems? Some practitioners have said: "Sometimes we are enlightened to some Fa-principles but we cannot follow them. Cultivation is really complicated." This has also bewildered me in the past. Recently, I've become clearer and clearer and realized that for Fa-rectification Dafa disciples, when you are enlightened to some principles, you will surely be able to do it. Because when you become enlightened to a principle, it is an exhibition of your life having been assimilated to the Fa at that realm. When you really become enlightened to a principle, that Fa-principle is part of your life. We can also say that you are part of that principle. The relationship between life and the Fa is much more than in perfect harmony. How can that life then not naturally and harmoniously follow that Fa-principle to do everything?
But why do we still feel the bewilderment because we become enlightened to the Fa but still cannot follow the principle that we've become enlightened to?
There is a fundamental difference between enlightenment in cultivation and the enlightenment for ordinary people who learn knowledge. In learning knowledge, we pay attention to "knowing" it and mastering the knowledge. However in cultivation, when we "know" and "hear" a Fa-principle, based on our belief in Dafa, we think that this Fa-principle is right, but this does not necessarily mean that we have become enlightened to some principle. Regarding what is "enlightenment"; there is an explicit explanation in Zhuan Falun. We may think that after understanding the connotation and becoming assimilated to it, we then say that we are enlightened to it. So when we get to "know" some principle, it is often something external. There exists a choice that at the critical moment of whether we are willing to keep our own Xinxing strictly in conformity with the principle. That is probably why when some practitioners hear and study many Fa-principles but their Xinxing is not upgraded as it should have been, there occurs bewilderment due to becoming enlightened to some principle but not being able to follow it.
The practice proves that it is very helpful to know clearly to what extent we understand and master the Fa and truly study the Fa well after we clarify the misunderstanding of the principle for "enlightenment."
The above is my personal understanding at the present time. Please rectify it with compassion if there is anything improper.
