This Congressional Human Rights Caucus (CHRC) Members' Briefing is on the People's Republic of China's pressure to silence United States officials and its harassment of U.S. citizens practicing and supporting Falun Gong.
Representative Lynn C. Woolsey will chair the briefing. Congressional Human Rights Caucus co-chair, Congressman Tom Lantos, is sponsoring the briefing.
The People's Republic of China has attempted to enforce and justify human rights abuses against Falun Gong practitioners, and tried to pressure local officials in the U.S., city mayors and state governors not to support Falun Gong practitioners' human rights or to rescind proclamations of support and recognition of Falun Gong.
There have been numerous civil complaints filed in U.S. federal courts on the issue that PRC embassy/consulates have been responsible for harassment in the United States.
