Some time ago, a group of "reformed" practitioners who had given up the practice under coercion were transferred to Dalian Forced Labor Camp from Fushun Forced Labor Camp in Liaoning Province. Their task was to assist in the brainwashing of practitioners. They told officers and guards in the camp that the secret of success in brainwashing is to "beat them."
Recently, many practitioners have died from mistreatment in the Dalian Forced Labor Camp. At the beginning, guards were afraid that too many practitioners were beaten to death by them, so they asked their higher authorities who proceeded to establish a death quota for them. Since then, news about practitioners being beaten to death has come more frequently.

[Panzihua City, Sichuan Province] 400 to 500 Practitioners Suffer Illegal Imprisonment in Miyi CountyXiang Jingfa, the head of the Political Security Section of Miyi County Public Security Bureau has the direct responsibility for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. At present, about 30 practitioners suffer from unlawful detention or are being held in forced labor camps. There are currently 20 practitioners detained in Miyi Detention Center.
The police working with the Political Security Section of Miyi Public Security Bureau and Miyi Detention Center interrogated practitioners and subjected them to various tortures. Practitioner Zhuang Deling, about 60 years old, had been locked up in a frozen warehouse for 3 days and nights. Liao Huanfu was hung up by his shackles and beaten for a few days. Hu Xingyu, a 70-year-old lady, had icy cold water poured on her and then was subjected to fans blowing cold air for an extended period of time. The police even shackled practitioners to iron bars on the second floor of the Political Security Section building for several days without even a word to them. The longest time of being shackled to the iron bars were 6 days and nights consecutively.
The population of Miyi County is about 200,000. Before the ban on Falun Gong, there were at least 10,000 people practicing Falun Gong. Since the Zhongnanhai incident, 2000 to 3000 practitioners have gone to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Many of them went to Tiananmen Square displaying Falun Gong banners. Among them, there were people in their eighties and youngsters less than 8 years-old. They came from various professions including government officials, soldiers, police, schoolteachers, professors, workers and farmers. Since the cruel persecution of Falun Gong, about 400 to 500 practitioners were secretly put in jail or sent to labor camps without any legal procedures.

[Beijing] The Police In Beijing Hire Young Unemployed People to Beat Practitioners Who Appeal In Tiananmen SquareAccording to inside sources, a few police stations in Beijing hired many unemployed people in their twenties, who have come from other provinces to find work in Beijing, to beat practitioners arrested for appealing in Tiananmen Square. The police station offers room and board and pays each person a salary of about 300 to 500 Yuan monthly. These people subject practitioners to extremely barbarous torture to force them to tell their names and addresses. They stick steel needles into practitioners' hands and feet, beat their hands with bamboo batons and even trample practitioners' fingers and toes with their heavy leather boots, which have steel spikes on the bottom.
4. [China] City-level Public Security Bureaus Use Repressive Measures to Prevent Travelers to Foreign Countries From Learning Truth of Falun Gong
According to news from China, in order to hide the truth from the public, the authorities repress and threaten those who travel outside of China. The national security sections of all city-level public security bureaus were required to "educate" citizens who are to travel outside of China that they should not talk about Falun Gong or accept Falun Gong flyers in foreign countries. They threatened that the travelers may be interviewed by reporters from China as a "test" during their trips. If they carelessly talked about Falun Gong, their workplace would get the news from the reporters and they could be discharged from their jobs. Let us send forth righteous thoughts to break China's blockade of the truth of Falun Gong as well as the persecution of the public.

[Liaoyang, Liaoning Province] Female Practitioners in Detention Center Have Gone On Hunger Strike For 30 DaysFemale practitioner Lu Yanying and Dong Yanmei came from the Hongwei District of Liaoyang City. The police arrested them from their home because of creating truth-clarifying VCDs and distributing Falun Gong literature. As they did not agree to give up their practice of Falun Gong, they were held in a detention center under the false charge of disturbing social order. At the detention center, they firmly refused to cooperate with any of their vicious persecutions. Lu and Dong have been on hunger strike for 20 and 30 days respectively. Currently they are very weak. They have been transferred to the Liaoyang Detention Center.

Mr. Feng Gang was a teacher of the Dalian Fishery University before he was sentenced to forced labor education two years ago. He has been transferred to different correction camps to be persecuted. Even so, he has refused to give up Zhen-Shan-Ren. One year ago, a practitioner met him in a camp and found that the inhuman jail life had worn him down to the point that he had appeared to have aged many years. Now, he is still unlawfully detained in the Guanshan Correction Camp, Changtu County, Liaoning Province which is considered to be a notorious with inhuman conditions. It is said he is still on a hunger strike. 7. [Anhui Province] Police Search Practitioners' Home and Arrest Them During The Chinese Spring Festival
According to some information disclosed through a kindhearted policeman, police in Anhui Province tightened their persecution of Falun Gong practitioners during the Spring Festival. Practitioners in different areas have experienced persecution in different forms, from having their homes searched illegally, being called into police stations, or even being detained. Practitioners in Fanchang and Nanni areas have been harassed and/or searched repeatedly. On the eve of the festival, a female practitioner, Qian Chaofen, was asked to come to the police station and then arrested.

The director of a local bureau chatted with his colleague party committee members, "One time I went to Beijing for business and I saw a large banner showing "Falun Gong Is Good" hanging down from a high building when I stepped out of the Beijing Train Station. It is unbelievable that they could hang it in so high a place. I think Jiang cannot destroy Falun Gong." One member replied, "Our country already has so many troubles. Jiang neglects so many important cases, does not care about hundreds of millions of unemployed workers, but applies all means to forbid common people's qigong exercises. He is really making troubles for himself." Another member agreed, "If I were the national president, I would announce that all people can practice Falun Gong freely, then our country would be peaceful."
9. [Hanshan County, Anhui Province] Female Practitioners Beaten Up By Police
On the night of November 31, 2001, when four female practitioners were telling people the truth about Falun Gong, they were brutally beaten up by policemen of the Juxing Police Station, Hanshan County, Anhui Province. Among the practitioners include one in her 60's, one in her 50's, and another in her 30's; all of them had blue bruises all over their bodies after the incident. Those policemen, in their early 20's, illegally searched their bodies and seized their money and other belongings. It is also reported that the police in the Hanshan detention center tortured detained practitioners with special instruments.
Since July 22, 1999, practitioners in Jinshan District, Yichun City, have been bearing various kinds of persecution. Below is a list showing that they have had different amounts of money extorted from them under the name of "Warrant Money" or "Penalty Money" by law-enforcement staff members:
