From reliable sources, right before the Chinese Spring Festival, Jiang Zemin arranged another round of persecution of Dafa practitioners. The latest news said, "No measures against Falun Gong practitioners are off limits." Such an extreme and vicious order has been issued to the official level of Section head.
2. [Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province] Police Open Fire and Break a Dafa Practitioner's leg
Around one or two on the morning of February 13, 2002 (the first day after the Chinese Spring Festival), Practitioner Jiang Honglu from Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province was noticed by police while he was posting Dafa truth-clarifying flyers. Policeman Du Yongshan then fired his gun and broke Jiang's leg.

3. [Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province] More Than Twenty Imprisoned Practitioners Start a Hunger Strike in Wuchang City's No. 2 Detention Center
Almost twenty practitioners imprisoned in Wuchang City No. 2 Detention Center in Heilongjiang province started a hunger strike to protest the fact that they have been illegally detained since December 18, 2001.
The responsible person Xiao Jiangchun, Secretary of the Party Committee in Wuchang City, brazenly said, "[I] would rather them die in the detention center than release them."

4. [China] A Practitioner's Family Member Angrily Reprimands Policeman
A practitioner was sentenced to one year of "re-education through forced labor." Police forced one member of the practitioner's family to accompany him to the labor camp. On the way back, the police officer cursed Dafa and the practitioner. The family member immediately stopped him and directly reprimanded the policeman: "You are a police officer and yet you are foul-mouthed in front of a female, talk nonsense, and behave like a rogue. Don't you feel ashamed to wear a police officer's uniform?" She talked for three minutes. The policeman knew that he had done wrong and kept silent. There were two other policemen present but they didn't speak at all. The practitioner's family member's righteous actions threatened the evil forces. If all our practitioners' families were like this practitioner's family member, evil forces would have nowhere to exist.
5. [China] Practitioner Clarifies the Truth of Dafa In Front of the Evil
Right before the Spring Festival (February 12, 2002), officials from my town asked me to write a guarantee letter stating that I would not go to appeal in Beijing. I was not afraid nor was I angry. I talked with them, "What do you want me to write this time? Shall I write that I won't stage a "self immolation" in Beijing? My teacher says, suicide is a sin and it is forbidden. I was very ill before and always wished to shake off all the suffering by killing myself. After I practiced Falun Gong, I am very healthy. Or [do you] wish me to defame my teacher by saying he has amassed a lot of money? My teacher doesn't ask for a penny from me but he cured my diseases. I bought Falun Gong books from a state-run bookstore. You did not allow me to practice, forced me to attend your anti-Falun Gong brainwashing classes, and fined me 3,000 Yuan [In rural areas, the average annual income is less than 2,000 Yuan] last summer. It is you that collected money. My teacher saved my life and that is my real personal experience. To ask me to defame my teacher is asking me to lie. Our teacher came here to save people and offer people salvation!" Hearing my words, the officials nodded their heads and said, "Oh! Your teacher comes to save people and offer people salvation." Then they left.
6. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Police Arrest Practitioners Li Zhiguang and Yan Lijie (female)
The two practitioners met a person at work and gave him a Falun Gong truth-clarifying CD. This person invited them to his home with the pretense that he wanted them to watch the CD with them. While in his home, he secretly reported them to the police and the practitioners were arrested. Li Zhiguang is being detained in Tiebei Detention Center and Yan Lijie (female) is detained in Shuangyang No. 3 Detention Center. They might be sentenced to one year of "re-education through forced labor." Their homes were searched. People who saw them said their faces showed clear marks of being beaten.

7. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Police Randomly Arrest People to Meet a Quota Assigned by Higher Authorities
Practitioner Xu Shuxiang (female) was arrested by Nanjie Police Station and sent to an anti-Falun Gong brainwashing class. It is said that every police station was assigned a quota stating the number of people that should attend the classes. To meet the requirement, the police randomly arrested local Dafa practitioners.

8. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Expose the Darkness of an Exhibition Defaming Falun Gong
Shortly before the Chinese Spring Festival (February 12, 2002), some people in Qingdao City opened an exhibition defaming Falun Gong. The details about the exhibition were secretly arranged (information about the time, location, and people holding the exhibition were unknown.), and only people in the field of education were invited to attend. Instructed by the Education Committee, only the principles of all universities that have Dafa practitioners were "invited." The universities that have no Dafa practitioners knew nothing about the exhibition. The exhibition was heavily guarded. It had five check gates, cameras were not allowed, only invited guests could enter, people were only permitted to pass a gate one time, and had to leave the exhibition through a back door. In fact, after the exhibition, many more ordinary people understood what was going on. If what they exhibited was true, why not open it to the public? It is obvious who is wrong and who is right.

10. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] 610 Office from Several Districts Commit Terrorist Acts Before the Spring Festival
Before the 2002 Spring Festival, 610 Offices [a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches] from Shuangyang, Luxiang, Qijia, and Sheling districts together with officials from the Politics and Law Committee and the Political Protection Department started to conduct unlawful arrests and torturing on a wide-scale. They climbed residents' courtyard walls in the middle of the night and searched their houses without providing any search warrants. As soon as they discovered anything related to Falun Gong, they arrested the person right away. Later, they did not bother to search people's homes; they simply arrested all the practitioners who were on their list. Many practitioners strengthened their righteous thoughts and used wisdom to escape. Most practitioners left their homes to avoid arrest and seven were unlawfully arrested. Chi Yuhua (female) and three other practitioners were illegally sentenced to forced labor camps.

Ever since July 20, 1999, this unlawful official has been the head of all crimes committed against Falun Gong practitioners. Through him, at least 21 practitioners have been sentenced to forced labor camps.
11. [China] The Differences Between Government-owned and Individual Bookshops Show People's True Hearts
A peculiar situation in Mainland China is worth noticing: since the end of 1999, there have been close to one hundred publications that slander Falun Dafa. All of these books are only thirty to forty pages long and the longest one is only 200 pages. However, they are sold at very high prices and displayed prominently in every government-owned bookshop. Knowing that people will not buy such expensive books, the bookshop must have every publication available and must place them at the most eye-catching places in the shop for the purpose of "a very serious political education task". However, there are no such books at individual bookshops (mainly privately owned) because they do not have as much ability as the government-owned bookshops to force high schools and primary schools to buy these books. This is a very large market and if the private bookshops cannot sell these books, they will be left with many unsold stock so they do not buy them from publishers. But if you want to buy Zhuan Falun, many private bookshops sell them secretly, even though it is more risky and more expensive.
Two different bookshops and two different types of books clearly show the hearts of people in Mainland China.
12. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Exposing the Evil at Huanxi Forced Labor Camp
Below are my personal experiences and witnessing of the suffering of fellow practitioners:
1) On July 30, 2001, the custodian stripped off the practitioners' clothes and cruelly tortured them with high-voltage electric batons. Quite a few practitioners were seriously injured. In August 2001, Wu Changping led six other guards and once again beat practitioners with electric batons. Practitioners were tortured by being slapped and tied to Dead Person's Beds [The four limbs of the practitioner are stretched out and tied to the four corners of an icy-cold metal bed. The practitioner cannot move at all. Neither is he allowed to get up to eat, drink, or go to the bathroom. This treatment will last from several hours up to more than a dozen days. This type of cruel torture causes severe damage to the practitioner both mentally and physically]. Some practitioners were forced to spend their prolonged imprisonment in very tiny cells. Police Han Jing and Zhao beat up a practitioner from Liaoning Province.
2) Guards drank alcohol and gambled during their night shifts and when they became drunk they would swear and insult practitioners. The names of some of these officers are Wang Lei, Zhang, and Zhao.
3) Guards are friendly with other criminal inmates and turn a blind eye when the inmates bring in adult videos and make phone calls at night. Inmate Li Ming usually swears at practitioners and orders them to do things for him.
4) Inmates bring in alcohol at night and gamble and become drunk. This disturbs the practitioners' rest but the guards do not interfere. If the inmates start a fight while gambling, the guards will bribe the inmates in order to end the fight.
5) Some inmates swear and hit practitioners, order them to wash their clothes, and do other cruel things.
6) Guards extort money from practitioners' families.
7) Guards order inmates to beat and swear at practitioners. They threaten to extend the sentences of anyone who is not cruel to practitioners.
8) Guards take practitioners' belongings such as wool blankets for their own use.
The guards at Huanxi Labor Camp have very bad morals and the inmates are allowed to brutally torture practitioners. However, they have met much retribution. Inmates Chong Long and Li Changjiang have experienced retribution after they beat practitioners. Chong Long continuously spit out blood and had blood in his mouth whenever he talked. Injections and medication did not stop the bleeding and eventually he was transferred. Li Changjiang suddenly came down with a very strange illness one night and was taken to the hospital. These are the retributions of those who torture practitioners.
13. [Northern China] Practitioner Showed Determination In Not Cooperating With the Evil
On December 26, 2001, police stormed into female practitioner Yao's house in a northern city. They searched her house without a warrant and confiscated Dafa books, banners, and other materials. They also took a cheque for 2,000 yuan [Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban laborer is about 500 Yuan] and 1,200 yuan in cash (no receipts for the money were issued), and took Yao to the police station. Yao refused to co-operate with the police throughout, rationally and wisely handling the situation. She was later sent to a detention center for refusing to sign any documents. The detention center required her to take a medical examination in which 'illnesses' were interestingly diagnosed. As a result, she was sent back home the same day. She realized that it was Master who had been protecting her.
14. [Beijing] My Experience on Tiananmen Square
In November 2001, a vicious policeman interrogated me on Tiananmen Square while I was looking for opportunities to clarify the truth. I asked him what was wrong with walking around. He asked if I knew about Falun Gong. I asked what that had to do with walking on the Square. A police van came by at that moment and the policeman pushed me into the van. Inside the van, a woman who looked like a vendor with a cloth basket in her hands was asked to curse Teacher. She did and was released right away. The policeman asked me to do the same but I asked why I should curse people for no reason. Having heard that, he looked at me viciously, kept me in the van, and continued arresting others on the Square.
I saw that the police had hired a woman dressed like a tourist to help make the arrests. She looked around, told the police where the practitioners were, and showed the police where to find practitioners. Before long, the police van was jammed with practitioners. We were then sent to the basement of the Police Department at the Square and put inside iron cages. Practitioners started reciting Teacher's articles in unison and hung their banners along the cages. In the evening, the police transferred these practitioners to Haiding Detention Center where they were forcefully photographed and fingerprinted, and stripped naked for a body search. They tore my clothes to shreds. I saw a practitioner beaten in the corridor and his/her head was full of wounds and blood. The police in the Detention Center told us that we had to be responsible for our own injuries (caused by the beating by police). They took my fingerprints by force.
The inmates in the Detention Center made me squat. I had to keep still because any movement would cause another round of beating. I slept for only one hour in three days. They slapped my face. When they got tired slapping with their hands, they used a notebook and a pair of slippers. My nose bled but they would not stop until the floor was covered with my blood. The head of the cell told me that if not for my old age, they would have stripped me naked, made me stand outdoors, and poured cold water on me.
This kind of thing happened daily to many practitioners.
15. [China] Reinforce Our Efforts in Clarifying the Truth to Students
On December 30, 2001, police arrested a practitioner relative of mine for posting truth-clarifying materials in the residential area adjacent to his workplace. We later found out that a primary student reported him to the police. I was quite shaken by the incident.
Through this incident, I have come to realize the importance of clarifying the truth to secondary, primary, and even pre-school students. These young people are relatively naive and therefore are easily influenced by the evil. Because of their ignorance, they might do wrong to Dafa and cause tremendous harm to their true and eternal lives. They are sentient beings that need to be saved as well. From this incident, I have come to realize how evil the old forces are; they target all sentient beings without omission.
I looked internally to find what I had missed, and found that I had neglected these young students in the past in clarifying the truth. From now on, I will reinforce my efforts to ensure that they are given the opportunity to hear the truth about Dafa.

Yanshan University is actively involved in persecuting Falun Gong. Despite the criticism of Jiang and Luo's regime for their brutal persecution, Yanshan University held an anti-Falun Gong photo exhibition in its library.
