Falun Gong practitioners Zhu Xiaoyan and Qi Luyi in Germany have launched an appeal to rescue their teacher and colleague Liu Shan.
Liu Shan, male, 32, was a Japanese language lecturer at the Dalian Foreign Language College. He was also Zhu Xiaoyan's teacher and Qi Luyi's colleague. Liu started practicing Falun Gong in July 1998. He was a volunteer assistant who taught the exercises at the Dalian Foreign Languages College practice site. Liu had obtained a Bachelor's degree in Japanese Language from the same college. He was employed by the college as a teacher because of his excellent grades. He had worked for the college for 10 years before he was abducted. He was well received by his colleagues and students because of his wide interests, high level of professionalism, and cheerful demeanor.
On July 20, 1999, he appealed to the Dalian City government on behalf of Falun Gong. After he went back to the college, he was watched closely by the college authorities, which didn't allow him to get in touch with fellow practitioners either inside or outside of the college. The college also tried to get him to write a statement renouncing Falun Gong with the promise of letting him go abroad. In order to get Liu to give up Falun Gong, the authorities also threatened his parents over the phone.
On the morning of July 9, 2001, a group of plain-clothes police burst into Liu's dormitory and took him away with no explanation for their actions. Since then, his whereabouts are unknown, and it's unknown if he is dead or alive. According to an inside source, this was directly related to the Dalian Foreign Language College. July 9 was the date the college closed for the summer, and the college had already decided not to offer a position to Liu in the next term. Moreover, Yang Shou, the college Chief of Security threatened, "Liu will have to be sent to a forced labor camp within half a year!" and he said he had "collected materials" from Liu's students, also Dafa practitioners, several times using dishonest means. Liu is recognized as a good teacher and highly respected by his students. This unjust persecution of a good person has caused anger among the students.
