Greetings!

My name is Han Yuejuan, and I am 43 years old. I graduated from Zhongshan University in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. I was once enlisted in the Chinese People's Liberation Army. After retiring from the service, I worked as an editor for a literature magazine and a vice secretary of the [party name omitted] Youth League of a Bureau. Before I suffered the persecution, I was the chief of the Theory Education Section of the Propaganda Department, Dongshan District, Guangzhou City. I was also the Secretary General of Dongshan District Literature & Arts Federation, a member of Guangzhou Writers' Association, and a member of a Poets' Association in Hong Kong. I have obtained many honors such as "The Advanced Worker," and "The Outstanding Propaganda Cadre" and "The Outstanding [party name omitted] Party Member" of Guangzhou City Level and more. My son, Liu Jin, is now 16-years-old. He is a student at the Provincial Experimental High School, and is outstanding in both his conduct and academics. He has been officially recognized many times by his school as the "healthy, diligent, and helpful student," and "A Crossing-Century Star."

My husband, Liu Mingfang, was a military official at the Liaison Section of the Political Department in the Guangzhou Military Region. In 1992, he was sent by the General Staff Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army to join the United Nations as a military observer. During the time when he carried out his duty in Cambodia, he unfortunately caught a virulent local infectious disease malaria (brain type), and died on January 21, 1993 due to bungled medical treatment. He was only 35-years-old. The former United Nations Secretary General, Mr. Gallie, personally sent his condolence telegram to express his sorrow. Therefore, my son Liu Jin and I received comfort and aid from the United Nations. Here, we'd like to express our sincere gratitude to the United Nations Organization and her officials for your humanitarian help and concern!

My appeal today to Mr. Annan and other Distinguished United Nations Officials is for a different reason: the brutal persecution conducted by Jiang Zemin's group during the last nearly two years since July 22,1999 against myself, my son, and the tens of millions of Falun Dafa practitioners in China. Here we strongly appeal to the United Nations Human Rights Organization. Based on the International Human Rights Principles and the humanitarian spirit of promoting righteousness and punishing the wicked, I plead with you to send specialists to investigate my and my fellow practitioners' cases, to firmly stop Jiang Zemin group's violent persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners, and promptly rescue us, as well as the other millions of innocent Falun Dafa practitioners, who are currently suffering from the relentless persecution in China.

First , I verify with my life that Falun Dafa is based on promoting the universal characteristics: Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. It has only benefits but does not do any harm to society, family and people's health.

My son and I were introduced by a good friend of my husband's to attend two of the lectures offered by Master Li Hongzhi in Guangzhou in January and July of 1994. My original medical troubles had been eliminated on the fourth day of the lecture. All my stubborn illnesses, such as chronic migraine, lower back pain, endometriosis, and uterine tumor, disappeared right away. (My medical records in Dongshan District Public Medicine Office can be verified: my son and I have never been to see the doctor nor have we been reimbursed for medical expenses for the 7 years since our cultivation practice). Later, my outlook on life and the world also had a radical, positive change. The profound and pure law of the universe amazed me. The lofty realm of selflessness and altruism of enlightened beings brought me to a holy and pure land. I not only experienced the happiness of physical health, but also enjoyed the peace and joy after I began gradually to take lightly my attachments to fame, profit and sentimentality. From then on, I have tried my best to become a good employee in my work unit. I did not care about fame and gain, and I worked hard; at home, I was a good mother. I taught my son by setting a good example for him.

Since I benefited a lot from practicing Falun Dafa, I wished more people who had the predestined relationship could also come to learn and benefit as well. Therefore, I volunteered to work as a vice secretary of Falun Gong Specialist Committee of Guangdong Province Qigong Scientific Research Association. This association was a legal public organization, and, like other Falun Dafa Buddha Associations, legally registered all over the world. Every year, we held large-scale (1,000 to 8,000 participants) activities of practice and experience-sharing conferences which were supported by different levels of governments. Falun Gong emphasizes spreading the practice freely and not collecting money and accumulating wealth. Falun Gong insists on loose management. I myself voluntarily shared one part of the expenses in renting the function sites and printing materials for the experience-sharing conferences. But all these things are too insignificant to be worthy of mentioning.

Second, because of practicing Falun Gong, I have been suffering the severest persecution in the last 19 months since July 22, 1999. Now, they frantically issued an arrest order all over the country to arrest me, posting a reward of 100,000 Yuan (about US$12,000. That sum represents an ordinary Chinese citizens' total wages for 10 to 20 years). This forced me to leave home, and I am currently homeless. Now, I urgently appeal to the United Nations Human Rights Organization to resolve my current crisis as soon as possible, enabling my son and I to reunite as soon as possible.

On July 22, 1999, when the Central Government banned Falun Gong, I was illegally detained by the Guangzhou Police for 15 hours. At that time, I assertively expressed my views and made my position clear. I said that all the charges that the government imposed on my Teacher were slander and fabrications. I advised them not to believe that. I also told them about my personal experiences in cultivation practice. When they continued putting pressure on me, I shouted loudly, " You are creating the biggest injustice in the world, the heavenly principle will not tolerate you!" They were shocked and called my work unit leader (District Propaganda Department) to take me home.

On July 26, 1999, I was again illegally kidnapped by the Guangzhou Police and taken to an unknown place at No. 1 Huade Street, Penglai Road. I was forced to remain there under 24-hour surveillance for as long as 3 months. At that time, they did not permit me to call my family. My son was left alone at home without knowing where I was. He had to care of himself. During the detention, they treated me as a notorious criminal. They interrogated and persecuted me severely. They often took turns to interrogate me for 3 consecutive days and nights, not allowing me to sleep. As I did not cooperate with this kind of illegal action that extremely violates human rights, and I persisted in my own noble belief, but they did not release me. Every day, I clarify the truth about Falun Dafa with a benevolent heart and spread Dafa to the police officers who interrogated me. Some of them were touched by my words and deeds. They said, "You are too good and the government's treatment of you is too excessive. It is the extreme way just as it was used in the Great Cultural Revolution [in 1960's 1970's]." A policewoman expressed that she would join me in learning Falun Gong after we were released. I heard later that all other "backbones"[Falun Gong practitioners] had been released after being detained 20 days, and I was the only "backbone" who had been detained for such a long time. As my parents unceasingly strongly lobbied for my release to my work unit and the police station, and the fellow soldiers of my husband's unit also vigorously appealed for me, I was finally released.

After arriving home, I was placed under the police's 24 -hour surveillance, and my home telephone was also monitored. They would follow me whenever I went out, and come to harass me on and off. In my work unit, I received pressure from all levels of the Party and Political Departments. They tried to force me to give up my belief in Falun Dafa. I refused to comply, so the supervisor did not allow me to do my regular work. I just did some temporary work: cleaning and other odd jobs. Moreover, they did not permit me to have a vacation. I was not allowed to leave Guangzhou City during the holidays. I did not have any freedom. Facing so much unfair treatment, I could still treat all of this with a calm, compassionate and tolerant heart. First, I clarified the truth about Falun Dafa patiently to all leaders who came to talk with me. Second, I did my work well, joyfully and happily. My leaders and colleagues were all amazed at my open-minded words and deeds. They commented that if another person were in such situation, he or she would have already been angry enough to catch a disease like cancer or to go mad. If she was not a big fool, she must be an outstanding woman. But I told them that it was Falun Dafa that gave me my broad mind and wisdom.

In April 2000, the Discipline Inspection Committee of Dongshan District issued to me a disciplinary action: to be observed within the Party for one year, according to the No. 5 document of Year 2000, suggested by the Guangdong Province Discipline Inspection Committee. I did not think my cultivation of Falun Dafa was wrong. One reason is that I saved a lot of money on medical expense for my work unit. The other reason is that I was excellent in my work, and I was the advanced employee and professional "backbone" in my work unit. Therefore, I thought the disciplinary action was wrong, and I rejected this decision firmly. So I wrote letters to the Secretary of Guangdong Province, Li Changchun, and the Secretary of Guangzhou City, Huang Huahua, appealing to them about this injustice and looked forward to the solution from them. However, instead of providing a solution, they aggravated and added to my persecution. In June 2000, the Propaganda Department of the District Party Committee issued a document. As result, I was dismissed from my post, and assigned to the Dongshan Environmental Sanitation Administrative Bureau, to be an ordinary worker in the Restroom Work Team. When the Department of Organization in Dongshan Party Committee turned over my records, they changed the entry in my yearly appraisal record from "Qualified" to "Not qualified." I again appealed to the district secretary for this unreasonable and ridiculous action. Only then was I assigned a position in the office of the Environmental Sanitation Bureau, but I still worked as "reform-through-labor" under the surveillance of Political and Public Security Departments. I applied many times for permission to travel with my son on holidays, but I was refused every time. Whenever a so-called "sensitive date" approached, they would illegally detain me.

On July 15, 2000, when I went to work, I was suddenly kidnapped by some cadres from the Politics and Law Committee and by policemen, without any explanation, and sent to a so-called "Transformation Class" in a military-run hotel called Meihua Garden in a suburban district. Actually, it looked like a Fascist Concentration Camp. Around the dwelling place, there were crowds of security officers and policemen watching everyone. We could not leave the room except being taken for interrogation. They interrogated me even worse than the others. They woke me up at midnight when I was just in pajamas. Then, they forcefully took me to the Donghu Police Station in the downtown area, to interrogate me for 16 hours. They did not send me back until the next afternoon. I was put in the concentration camp for 15 days where I suffered injustices. Under such severe persecution and pressure, my son and I were unable to lead a calm and steady life. In October 2000, in order to provide my son with a steady environment for his study and life, I planned to apply for the necessary private passport for him to go abroad for traveling and study. My son's school leader had signed for and sealed the application, and my work unit also basically agreed. But the "610 office" at the district and city level (the special unit established by the government to persecute Falun Dafa) did not approve. So it was impossible for us to get out of the ogre's clutches.

On December 22, 2000, the "610 office" in Dongshan District forced my work unit to send me to a "Transformation Class" (Classes where Falun Grong practitioners will be forced to renounce their belief in Falun Gong, curse Master Li and promise not to practice Falun Gong any longer or go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong), which was very far from Guangzhou City, but my work unit refused them. The leaders in my work unit considered that my work performance was excellent, and I had become the "backbone" in my work unit only in half a year. Moreover, the year-end summary work really needed me. The leaders of my work unit finally made a compromise: they found a hotel in the urban district for me. I went to work in the daytime and slept in the hotel at night, while being watched over by some guards from my work unit. I felt that the persecution from the government was still too harsh, so I escaped from the surveillance dwelling and went to Beijing to appeal. While appealing, Beijing's police caught me. They handcuffed me with my hands behind my back and beat me up brutally. Others and I went on a collective hunger strike to protest. We were all released after we resisted for three days and nights. After being released, I had to roam about like a homeless person.

Recently, we have heard news that some related leaders have been punished by the party's disciplinary action, because of my missing. Almost every day, my father who is over 70-years-old, my mother who is near 70-years-old, and my son are being harassed and threatened by the government and the police. Even the relatives in my hometown in Hunan Province, including my younger brother, my mother-in-law and other relatives, are also often harassed and threatened by the police. They sent out many spies and plainclothes policemen to search for me everywhere. Not having found me, they issued an arrest order and posted a reward of 100,000 Yuan to arrest me. I really do not understand why they are so afraid of me. I am an excellent employee of the country, and a single parent who receives aid from the United Nations. What on earth are they afraid of? Is it necessary to employ such masses of people to catch me? Is it necessary to spend such a great amount of money to persecute me? Where is their common sense? Where is the justice? Where are the heavenly principles?

I heard that soon, the United Nations Human Rights Conference would be held in Geneva, Switzerland, which is a good opportunity for us to appeal and plead for our exoneration. I once again fervently call on the United Nations Human Rights Organization to investigate my individual case. By knowing how we were persecuted, you can understand the monstrous crimes committed by the heinous group led by Jiang Zemin during their brutal suppression of Falun Dafa. Now, Jiang Zemin's group has been taken extremely vicious action towards Dafa practitioners. Dafa practitioners in China are bleeding every day. The numbers of practitioners being tortured to death are still rising. Countless practitioners are forced to leave their beloved spouses and children, and become homeless. We innocent Dafa practitioners will not be rescued if Jiang Zemin's atrocity is not stopped.

Respected officials of the United Nations, and all kind-hearted people with a sense of justice all over the world: we appeal to you to stand up to and condemn Jiang Zemin's atrocities! Though we still live under these adverse circumstances, people with a sense of justice in the world inspire us. I feel the hope that the day for our rehabilitation will come! We believe firmly that the wonderful future will belong to us Falun Gong practitioners as well as all people in the world who are kind and just.
