[Minghui Net] On the evening of March 19, 2001, Swiss Falun Gong practitioners and Amnesty International of Geneva University jointly sponsored a "Public Hearing for Falun Gong Persecution Victims." Over 200 practitioners plus people from all walks of life who were interested in the Falun Gong issue attended the conference. At the hearing, Amnesty International's conference organizer introduced the "Anti-Torture" campaign that was initiated last October, and reiterated his organization's consistent opposition to the suppression of Falun Gong. He pointed out that China's persecution of Falun Gong seriously violates the practitioners' basic human rights.
Later, Mr. Sunny Lu, an expert in psychology and psychiatry from the University of Cincinnati, presented a report on the abuse of mental hospitals and drugs in China. Citing many facts, he described the cases of Su Gang and two other Falun Gong practitioners who were tortured to death in mental hospitals. He appealed to international Human Rights organizations and all other concerned groups to independently investigate these serious allegations.
Australian Falun Gong practitioner Zhan Cuiying and Professor Zhang Kunlun from Canada both read personal statements about their torture in China. They thanked the Australian and Canadian governments, Human Rights organizations, and many other people for helping them get out of prison. They also pointed out that tens of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners in China are still suffering from the same or even worse brutality, and they expressed hope that the world's governments, human rights organizations, and all kind-hearted people would soon help these innocent people regain their freedom.
Amnesty International's spokesperson stated that, since the Chinese government has so far turned a deaf ear to appeals from people around the world, his organization emphatically urges all people who support Falun Gong to write letters to their own governments and use all means at their disposal to put pressure on China to stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.
