Yang Guibao, male, 56, was a resident of Beixinbao Village, Huailai County, Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province. On December 28, 1999, Yang Guibao went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa with fellow practitioners from his hometown and was arrested at Tiananmen Square. Later, he was transferred to the detention center at Huailai County and given a detention term of 15 days. However, after serving the 15 days, they prolonged his term indefinitely, and he was not released until October 14, 2000. Altogether he had been held in custody for about 10 months.
On October 24, 2000, ten days after his release, Yang Guibao and 7 other practitioners went to Beijing to appeal for justice again. Along the journey, they broke through one barrier after another, trudged over mountain after mountain, and experienced all kinds of hardships. Without any shelter, they ate their meals in the cold wind and slept on the wet, dew-covered ground. They continued walking for 3 whole days and crossed more than 100 kilometers [62 miles].
On October 27, they arrived in Beijing before dawn and went directly to Tiananmen Square to validate the Fa. At the square, they spoke out loudly and simultaneously proclaimed, "Falun Dafa is good! Falun Dafa is good!" Yang Guibao was arrested again and illegally detained in Xuanwu District detention center in Beijing. The police of that detention center took turns beating him harshly, not even stopping when they, themselves, got tired. Instead, they pushed him back into the prison cell and ordered the criminals to continue to beat him for the entire day.
On the night of December 27, Yang Guibao, with injuries, cuts, and bruises all over his body, was picked up by the Beixinbao Village local police [Huailai County, Zhangjiakou City]. He was again beaten, kicked, tortured with a bamboo stick, and shocked with an electric baton until he was near his last breath. Afterwards, he was thrown into detention room 13. Xu Weiguo, the head of County Police Department, ordered: "This time, don't treat them as human beings. No one is allowed to give them any blankets. If anyone dies, throw him into the dyke." Then the police confiscated all the blankets from all the cells.
According to a witness, one of his hometown-fellow practitioners, detained in cell #14, at about 3:00 PM on January 14, a prisoner in Cell #13 (Where Yang Guibao was kept at that time) suddenly called for emergency help because someone was on the verge of death. When the police came to carry him out, Yang Guibao had already lost consciousness. He died soon after being sent to the hospital. On the following morning, the police lied to his relatives, telling them that his death was due to a hunger strike in prison. Afterwards, because the police were afraid their crimes would be exposed, they illegally arrested Chen's four brothers and sisters (practitioner Chen Yunchuan's family members), who knew the truth of Yang Guibao's death, and sent them to Huailai County Detention Center. At the same time, they tried to conceal their crimes by spreading rumors in the detention center that Yang had returned home to regain his health, and that he had now recovered and could eat seven dumplings.
Dafa practitioner Yang Guibao legally appealed for Falun Dafa, was illegally detained for nearly a year, and was finally persecuted to death. He was yet another unyielding practitioner who, in dedicating his common, but great life, to bring justice to Falun Dafa, sacrificed everything he had.
