Han Shengli, a 58-year-old retired employee of Liangzhuang Mine, Shandong Xinwen Mining Industrial Corporation, was tortured to death at Xintai Detention Center in August 2001.
Han had begun to practice Falun Gong in1996. Since July 22, 1999, the security guards of the mine have been closely monitoring Han and other Falun Gong practitioners. In late May 2001, Han returned to Changqing, his hometown. The security guards of the mine abducted Han from Changqing and sent him to Wangcun Labor Camp in Zibo City, Shandong Province. For more than ten days, Han was forced to receive propaganda that aimed at defaming Falun Gong and brainwashing practitioners. Then he was released.
After returning home, Han deeply realized that he had brought negative effects to Falun Dafa because he had accepted the propaganda of the brainwashing session from the labor camp. And the result had a severe impact on his cultivation. So Han went to Tiananmen determinedly, and held out a banner that read, "Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance." He expressed his firm will to support Falun Dafa in front of the world. Consequently, Han was sent to Xintai Detention Center. Han received a heavy fine, and was brutally tortured to the extent that he came to the verge of mentally breaking down. Later, Han was sent to Wangcun Labor Camp in Zibo City again. But the camp rejected him due to his health condition. Local guards carried through with the illegal detention and torture of Han Shengli until he died of abuse in the beginning of August 2001, in Xintai Detention Center.
