[Lanzhou] Lanzhou Police Started Another Massive Arrests

On the morning of June 28, the police cajoled two Dafa practitioners Peng Xibin (male, in his 50's) and Qian Shiguang (male, in his 50's) away from their home. Without going through any legal procedures, the police took them to the Lanzhou municipal police station and then sent them to the Pingantai labor camp where a conservative estimate of over 40 practitioners are detained for one year's forced-labor.

Qi Ai and Shi Qiang, former contact people of Falun Gong assistance center in Wei County of Hebei Province, went to Beijing on June 16 to petition for the innocence of Falun Gong. They demonstrated the practice on the Tiananmen Square, and then were detained and escorted back to Wei Country for forced surveillance and "thoughts transformation" under their work units. They have been threatened with forced-labor and criminal conviction unless they could write a pledge to quit the practice. Qi Ai was formerly the director of Party Administrative Office of Qi County. Shi Qiang was formerly the deputy director of the Government Administrative Office of Qi County. Both had been removed from their posts for practicing Falun Gong.

During the 2000 Spring Festival, over 40 practitioners in Xinji City were arrested for practicing Falun Gong. More than 20 of them have been detained in the Municipal Party School until today. Many practitioners and family members of the detained practitioners wrote letters to official Liu Chunzhu, secretary of the city's Politics and Law Commission, to request for unconditional release of the illegally detained Dafa practitioners. However, the government took no actions to address their reasonable requirements. In stead, they ransacked the homes and confiscated properties of the practitioners who wrote the letters. At present, the detained practitioners are on hunger strike to protest their illegal detention.

The authority of Nanzhi Town of Xinji City openly abused the constitution by organizing militiamen to monitor Dafa practitioners and hiring hatchet men to brutally beat up practitioners. One male practitioner fainted several times from the beating. The Party secretary of Nanzhi Town, official Li Yaoting, claimed that everyone who had got involved with Falun Gong would be fined 200 Yuan and every trip to Beijing for petition would cost 1000 Yuan. One practitioner, Mr. Wang Zhenwei, who had had his own business and some savings, was asked for a fine of 1,000,000 Yuan. When he refused to pay, they lowered the fine to 50,000 Yuan and promised to release him upon receiving the money.

Mudian Village of Mazhuang Town also organized Militiamen to control Dafa practitioners' freedom. Students in the village were also assigned and rewarded to monitor their parents who were Falun Gong practitioners.

In addition, up to now, over 300 people in Xinji City have been to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. However, the police department of Xinji City cheated Shijiazhuang police department (which is in charge of Xinji City) and only reported 50 people.

[Beijin] Practitioners from Qinghua University Facing Another Wave of Severe Tests

Starting this June, Falun Gong practitioners from Qinghua University began to successively withdraw the "pledges" they wrote by mistake in the past, practice Falun Gong outdoors, or appeal on the Tiananmen Square. As a result, they are facing the most severe persecution since last July. Lots of faculty and student practitioners are removed from their posts, suspended of their school and detained by the police.

So far, practitioners that have been suspended of attending school or removed from their positions include: Huang Kui, Wang Weiyu, Zhang Cunmang, Li Chunyan, Li Xiaodan, Ma Yan, Lin Yang, Zhang Zhigang, Meng Jun, etc. Those that have been illegally detained include: Liu Wenyu, Yu Jia, Jiang Yuxia, Li Yanfang, Yu Ping, etc. Some other practitioners' whereabouts is unknown.

Following are some details:

1. Department of Precision Instrument:

Huang Kui was beaten up by campus police and handcuffed from the back for one day for practicing Falun Gong in the campus woods. Later, he was detained again by the campus police for the same reason. The University authority has notified him to "voluntarily" drop out of school.

Wang Weiyu was forced to suspend attending school for withdrawing the "pledge", and being reported of actively participating in and promoting Falun Gong.

Zhang Cunman was forced to "drop out of school" because of withdrawing his "pledge".

Zhao Shaojun was illegally detained by the school police for practicing Falun Gong in the campus woods and withdrawing his "pledge".

Xu Zhiguang and Wang Xin were threatened to either rewrite their "pledges" or drop out of school after they withdrew their "pledges".

2. Department of Engineering Physics:

Li Chunyan was illegally detained by the school police for practicing Falun Gong in the campus woods. Now she has been forced to drop out of school. When she was detained for the second time, the school threatened to give her criminal detention and impose a fine of 500 Yuan if she would continue the practice.

3. Department of Electronics

Meng Jun, a young teacher, was suspended from his post for 2 months for continuing practicing Falun Gong. Later, he requested the school to "release the Falun Gong practitioners illegally detained by the school". Consequently, he was again threatened with being removed from his job. Then he was detained for 6 days and forced to "leave Beijing" for practicing Falun Gong at the Tiananmen Square.

4. Department of Thermal Energy

Because of practicing Falun Gong, a Ph.D. student was forced to stop attending school for 3 months, illegally confined of physical freedom in an "education class" for 2 weeks, and forced to write a "pledge". Later the student was detained for 6 days and then given criminal detention for practicing Falun Gong at the Tiananmen Square.

Yu Ping, a Ph.D. student from the Thermal Energy Department, was illegally detained 3 weeks ago for appealing to the government and his whereabouts remains unknown.

5. Department of Hydrology

Jiang Yuxia, an undergrad student, was stopped from attending school for 2 months and forced to write a "pledge" for continuing to practice Falun Gong. She had been detained for several times for doing medication exercise at a practice site. She was illegally detained one week ago for appealing to the government and her whereabouts remains unknown so far.

Zhang Zhigang, a master student of the Hydrology Department was forced to drop out of school for continuing to practice Falun Gong. Later, he was detained for one month for unfurling a Falun Gong banner at the Tiananmen Square on April 25.

6. Li Yanfang, a master student from the Academy of Nuclear Research, was illegally detained one week ago for appealing to the government. So far, her whereabouts remains unclear.

7. Lin Yang, a master student from Hydrology Department was illegally detained for 10 days and stopped from attending school for 3 months for appealing to the People's Congress. Later, Lin Yang was forced to write a "pledge" and then allowed going back to school. After Lin withdrew the "pledge", the school suspended him from going to school again. Then he went to the Tiantanghe Labor Camp to report the truth of Falun Gong and was illegally detained for 10 days, on 9 of which Lin was on hunger strike. After returning to school, Lin Yang was threatened with either "dropping out of school" or "being dispelled from school".

8. Ma Yan, a master student from the Construction Department, had been suspended from attending school for continuing to practice Falun Gong. Later, Ma was illegally detained for one month for unfurling a Falun Gong banner at the Tiananmen Square.

9. Yu Jia, a female teacher from the Department of Business Administration, was detained by the police for several times for practicing Falun Gong outdoors. During the detentions, she had been beaten up for many times by the police.

10. Qiu Shuqin, an employee of the university, was removed from her job for continuing to practice Falun Gong. She was detained for one month for unfurling a Falun Gong banner at the Tiananmen Square. Later, she went to practice Falun Gong at a practice site for many times. As a consequence, the police illegally detained her and confiscated her personal properties.á

[Shenzhen] Zheng Yuyan, a Dafa practitioner from Shenzhen, was taken away by the police this February when she was dining with other practitioners. So far, she has been detained for over half a year without going through any legal procedures. Zheng Yuyan had written several letters to the Beijing authority and the Shenzhen municipality appealing for stopping persecutions against Falun Dafa and Dafa practitioners.

Recently, over 20 practitioner detained in the Jiuru Village Detention Center of Chengdu City started collective hunger strike starting June 25 to protest illegal detention and to verify the righteousness of Falun Dafa. Several practitioners including Ren Jin and Liu Lingping started hunger strike on June 21. The police have taken extreme measures to address the situation. They forced-fed the practitioners with hoses and gave injections to those that had long been on hunger strike. The action was directly supervised by a director from the Chengdu Police Department and conducted by a nurse from the Ankang Hospital at 6:00pm every day. Some practitioners refused to be forced-fed and got seriously injured as a consequence. So far, the practitioners have been on hunger strike for 9 days and are isolated from other detainees. Their lives are in a critical condition.

We call upon the Chinese government to stop the illegal inhumane behaviors and international communities to render their support and help to Falun Dafa and practitioners in terminating the evil conducts at an early date.

So far, the practitioners on hunger strike are known to include: Ren Jin, Liu Lingping, Tao Daqin, Tang Denghui, Zhang Zhixiu, Qu Xinyi, Yu Fuzhao, Zeng Chunrong, Wei Tongtong, Tan Shaolan, Zhou Tianling, Zhong Fangqiong, Chen Fengyin, Tang Ying, Liu Ying, Yan Dinghui, Zhou Ronglan, Liu Rong, etc.

The police of Jitou Town in Wuhou District of Chengdu City have been detaining Falun Dafa practitioners in isolated "education classes" since last December. The detained practitioners have been transferred back and forth between "education classes" and the detention center for many times and never allowed to go home since last December. So far, the detained practitioners are known to include: Peng Liang, Tao Yuan, Liu Zhenhai, Ms Zhang (Tao Yuan's mother).

[Mainland China] A Dafa Experience Sharing Convention with Several Hundred Participants

On the morning of June 24, several hundred Falun Dafa practitioners in a city convened in a park and exchanged their cultivation experiences over the past year. The participants included practitioners of all ages and all were in high spirits in meeting fellow practitioners.

During the conference, many plain-clothes agents roamed among the practitioners while some policemen kept on alert from a distance. However, the practitioners were very calm and candidly exchanged their experiences and discussed Teacher's new articles. At around 11:00am, the convention ended and practitioners departed.

[Beijing] Reports from the Tiananmen Square - Armed Police Hired Rogues as Hatchet Men

On the morning of June 18, we went to the Tiananmen Square with the banner we had prepared. Upon arrival, we decided to first take a walk around the Square to appreciate the magnificence of other fellow practitioners' displaying Falun Dafa banners. After Teacher published the latest article, practitioners have been successively going to Tiananmen Square to tell the truth of Falun Dafa to the public and displaying Dafa banners, which has become an admiring scene for many tourists.á

Suddenly, we saw two practitioners unfurl a big shining banner under the bright sunlight that read "Fa Rectifies the Universe". Right then several armed policemen came out of the crowd and attempted to seize the banner, but were prevented by the practitioners. Then they gestured to the crowds around and therein came forward several street rogues who started wrestling with and beating the practitioners. Those were the people hired by the police at 200 Yuan a day to abuse Falun Dafa practitioners.á

According to Dafa practitioners, the atmosphere at the Tiananmen Square has changed dramatically starting today. Security was intensified.
