April 8, 2000
Ms. Wang Zhi-yao, 43 years old, was a former employee of Department of Road of Beijing City. She was forced to resign because she refused to turn in her Falun Dafa books to the government. On March 7, she went to the Tiananmen Square with a book "Zhuan Falun" (the main text of Falun Dafa), and got detained in the Detention Center of Xi-cheng District. Her book "Zhuan Falun" was also seized away by police. She had been on hunger strike for 10 days in order to get the book back. Later, she was baited out. The police officers in the detention center promised that they would return the book to her upon releasing her. However, they did not keep their promise. 2 days later, she went back to the detention center to ask for her book. However, the police officers in the detention center refused to return her book. As a result, she started hunger strike (no food, no water) in front of the detention center.
On the night of April 7, the police officers returned the book to Ms. Wang Zhi-yao, who had already been on hunger strike for 12 days outside the detention center (Ms. Wang slept outside the detention center at night, she only had a raincoat.). On that day, about 20 more practitioners also went to the detention center to ask for the return of their confiscated Falun Dafa books.
