Ms. Xu Xiang-lan, And His Husband Were Sentenced to Eight and Six Years in Prison Respectively

January 08, 2000 |

According to the Hong Kong-based Information Center of Human Rights and Democratic Movement, The Wuhan No. 1 Intermediate People's Court sentenced Xu Xianglan, the chief contact person of Falun Gong in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, and her husband, Wang Hansheng, to eight years and six years in prison respectively on Thursday.

The court was unable to find evidence to support accusations in state news media that the movement's founder, Li Hongzhi, shared huge profits made by the couple's sales of Falun Gong books and photos, the Information Center said.

It said the couple had not yet been able to discuss an appeal with their lawyer.

Court officials have refused to comment on the case.
