Mr. Rob Anders, Reform Party MP for Calgary, plans to initiate amovement to collect signatures in Parliament next week. He will inviteSenators and Members of Parliament from all parties to jointly sign anopen letter to China's President Jiang Zemin appealing to him to respectthe basic human rights of the Chinese people, including freedom ofbelief. Mr. Anders expressed the above view to a reporter from theChinese daily newspaper, Ming Pao, after meeting with 3 Falun Gongrepresentatives from the Ottawa area on October 21st. "I will discussmore details of how to carry out this activity with the spokesperson forForeign Affairs and the spokesperson for Human Rights Affairs from ourParty, Mr. Bob Mills and Mr. Keith Martin," said Mr. Anders."

Also, we plan to invite Falun Gong representatives to Parliament tomeet with Senators and Members of Parliament, explain the unfairtreatment that Falun Gong practitioners are receiving in China, andanswer questions from the Senators and MP's."

In addition to appealing directly to President Jiang Zemin, Mr. Andersalso plans to write jointly with other Members of Parliament to theMinister of Foreign Affairs, Lloyd Axworthy. The joint letter will askhim to seriously express the concerns of the Canadian government and theCanadian people to the highest leaders of the Chinese governmentregarding the deprivation of the right to freedom of belief, and theright to open and fair trials for the Chinese people.
