Annan Will Speak Out for Falun Gong When He Visits China

The UN secretary Mr. Annan will arrive at Beijing this Sunday. Mr. Annan said Friday (November 13) in Tokyo that he planed to raise the issue of Falun Gong when he visits China later this week. Meantime, it was disclosed by an officer in the Intermediate People's Court of the province of Hainan that 4 Falun Gong members were sentenced up to 12 years in prison.

According to Reuters, Annan said in a news conference in Tokyo, ``I'm a bit puzzled by the official Chinese government reaction (to Falun Gong)...I will have the opportunity of discussing the issue with Chinese officials. In the meantime, I hope any action the government takes will be in conformity with basic requirements of the universal declaration of human rights and the Chinese constitution.''

But China's crackdown on Falun Gong has not been slowed down. The Hong Kong Human Rights Center said that the Chinese government will trial 111 arrested Falun Gong practitioners. The trials will start soon after Mr. Anna ends his upcoming visit in China.

An officer from the Intermediate People's Court said that, Song Yue-sheng was sentenced for 12 years, Chen Yuan seven years, Jiang Shi-long three years and Liang Yu-ling 2 years. This was the first trial since the Chinese government declared to wipe out Falun Gong.

In addition, it was reported that Chinese government was angry at the Hong Kong Human Rights Center, which spreads the most updated news of China's crack down on Falun Gong to the news agencies overseas. In the most recent week, the center received more than one thousand phone calls from the Mainland China everyday. Lu Si-qing, the director of the center, called for police to investigate this matter.

In addition to the phone calls, the center received several hundred faxes of "People's Daily" everyday. Meanwhile, Lu Si-qing's Beep Phone was called for more than one thousand times by people from the Mainland China everyday.
