Part 1 Before July 20th

May 9th 1999

Dalian City, Liaoning Province

• Three teachers were fired from a University and one student was expelled for practicing Falun Gong.

Xishi City in Hubei Province

• Public security conducted a very strict investigation on Falun Gong practitioners and found that "98% of practitioners were good people."

Beijing

• Wang Huizhong ( a Falun Gong practitioner ) who worked for the Water and Electricity Dept of the Armed Police lost all contact with his family. It was known that he was being followed since April 25th 1999. Some sources revealed that he has been jailed somewhere in one of Beijing's remote suburbs.

Heilongjiang Province

• Park security personnel and others have been harassing practitioners so as to stop them from practicing their exercises.
• Pulling, pushing and even dragging practitioners across the ground, throwing their shoe far away.
• Taking cassettes and cassette players.
• Building fires around the practice group to try to scare them and smoke them out. Fire crackers were even thrown in the fire.
• Practitioners endured all this silently.

Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province

• Universities prohibit Falun Gong practitioners from practicing on the property. Students received warnings of expulsion if they practiced Falun Gong.
• Officials from Jiangling Factory told Falun Gong practitioners if they practiced together they would be under suspicion of conspiracy.
• Practitioners received threats from police and were told to stop practicing.

Qidong City, Jiangsu Province

• Public security agents monitored Falun Gong practitioners' telephones, tailed them and openly claimed that "We know all your conversation".
• An official forbids practitioners to practice together. If practitioners were practicing in groups, they were told that they would no longer receive their retirement pension.

• The urban Countenance Bureau stole the practitioners' cassette players, and sprayed the people with water while they were practicing.

Gaoan City, Jiangxi Province

• Two state institutes, 13 county governments, police departments and city institutes started to interfere with, criticize and assault practitioners.
• Practitioners are being threatened with loss of job, salary and discharge from the Communist Party.
• Police and county officials were breaking into practitioners' homes and stealing all Falun Gong books, tapes, posters and other materials.
• One female practitioner was insulted and beaten when she went to the government to ask for her tape player back.

Linyi City, Shangdong Province

• An eleven-year-old practitioner was kicked and placed on top of his father's head( who was sitting in meditation). Still not pleased, they began to kick the father repeatedly on three separate instances, then continuing to slash his face, legs, neck and head. (All this was endured with silence.)

• Illegal arrests of practitioners by local public security bureaus occurred. Only after practitioners reported the events to local governments and bureau leaders, did the bureaus release the practitioners
• Jinchen public security bureau in Nanjing district began to confiscate books from practitioners without following any legal procedure or showing any legal documentation.

Beijing

• Professor Yu Changxin (affiliated with Institute of Air Force Administration), Mr. Liu Zhichen ( former Department director in an Airforce Institute, senior engineer, retired), and Mr. Zhou Dechen( former director of Political Department in General Staff Office, retired for a long time) were led from their homes for interrogation. Their whereabouts are still unknown.

Due to the severe blockage of communications networks (telephone/fax/email/web sites), we have no news from the villages and many more other cities where there are significant numbers of Falun Dafa practitioners. All we know is that the Central government has ordered that the whole country forbid the practice of Falun Dafa. People who dare to continue to practice Falun Dafa will be dishonorably dismissed from the Communist Party, from school and from their jobs. All this because Falun Dafa is a traditional, high-level Qigong practice that focuses on Truth, Benevolence and Forbearance and offers people better physical and mental health and has attracted millions of people all over the world are learning and practicing it now.)
