Before Ms. Zhou's death, her family found that she was mentally disoriented and her body was covered with bruises and puncture marks from needles.

After a previous arrest for practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Mei regained a university position, only to be arrested again in March 2010.

Ms. Zhou Zhiying was a recipient of the "Excellent Teacher Award" in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. She was nonetheless arrested and sentenced to forced labor because she practiced Falun Gong. She was arrested in 2002 for the second time, then sentenced to four years of imprisonment. She entered the 5th Ward of Nanjing City Women's Prison in early 2003. In an attempt to force her to give up her belief, the prison administration imprisoned her in Ward 2 in early 2004, a time when a special group was established to attack Falun Gong practitioners.

The guards tried to force her to sign other prisoners' daily needs bills, but she refused. They then forbade her from buying any personal hygiene products. She had to tear cotton out of her comforter to use during her menstrual period. She was also tortured by being deprived of sleep. In the freezing winter, a guard stole her vest to make her suffer from the freezing cold, and in the summer, the guards forced her stay near the ironing table.

Because Ms. Zhou persisted in doing the Falun Gong exercises, the prison administration took her to be locked up in Pukou Mental Hospital in Nanjing City. She was tortured by being tied to a bed and shocked with an electric needle on her head, even though she was never diagnosed with any mental condition by any doctors.

In August 2006, Ms. Zhou's four-year term ended. Upon exiting the prison, the 610 Office of Wuxi City picked her up directly and took her to Xinghua Brainwashing Center. Their excuse was that her parents were both very old, so they could not watch her closely and prevent her from practicing Falun Gong. In the brainwashing center, she was deprived of sleep for twelve days.

Ms. Zhou was arrested and imprisoned in the brainwashing center again on September 30, 2009. When she returned home on February 1, 2010, her family found that she had suffered a massive mental collapse, and her body was covered with bruises and puncture marks from needles.

Ms. Zhou's parents live in Jiangyin City. They witnessed how their daughter, who was perfectly fine before being arrested, became mentally unstable after undergoing brainwashing. The City 610 Office took her to Qingshan Mental Hospital, where she remained until she died. Her body was cremated in Huashan Funeral House Crematorium on April 1, 2010.

Mr. Mei Chuanjun Taken to Brainwashing Center from Hubei University of Technology

On March 15, 2010, several officers led by Huang Shuiqing and Hu Jun of the Hubei University of Technology's Security Section broke into Mr. Mei Chuanjun's office in the university's Computer Science Institute. They forcibly took Mr. Mei, who had received an award of Young Teacher of Excellence, to Banqiao Legal Eduation Center (former Tangxunhu Brainwashing Center) in Hubei Province. They did so without any legal procedure.

Previously, in September 2006, the university's CCP officials had unlawfully taken Mr. Mei to the brainwashing center for practicing Falun Gong. He was subjected to brainwashing attempts there for over forty days.

After his release, Mr. Wei was constantly harassed by the Wuhan City 610 Office. University authorities, at the direction of the 610 Office, suspended him from teaching and withheld part of his salary. Although Mr. Wei was fully qualified to compete for teaching positions, officials at the Computer Science Institute maintained his suspension until they finally fired him from his job.

Mr. Mei was forced to look for odd jobs off campus. Nonetheless, university authorities continued to send officials to harass him at his home. They kept track of his whereabouts since they were worried that he might appeal his case. In August 2009, university authorities promised Mr. Mei that he could return to work. However, he was not permitted to teach. Instead, he was placed in an office that maintained reference materials.
