She lost consciousness three times due to torture, and was not able to walk.
On March 26, 2009, Ms. Zhu was transferred to Lingzhou City Detention Center. On July 21, 2009, Li Xiangbao, director of the detention center, and guard Wang Lijun, dragged her into a police car and tried for the third time to jail her at the Shenyang City Women's Prison. The prison officials had refused to admit her twice due to her health condition. Therefore, Li tried to use his connections to bypass the normal procedure. He worked on this for three days and Ms. Zhu had to stay in the car for three days. In the end, Wang took advantage of her husband, the city court's deputy chief's 's nepotism, and sent Ms. Zhu into the 11th Ward (for elderly and handicapped). The prison guards still forced her to do labor work.
On July 28, 2009, Ms. Zhu's family brought some clothes to her at Linghai City Detention Center and learner that she had been sent to the prison. They confronted Li Xiangbao about why the family was not notified. Li was not able to give an answer.
On August 3, three of Ms. Zhu's family members went to the prison to visit her. After a year of detention, they did not recognize her. She was skinny and very weak with no color in her face. Her abdomen was bloated and she was not able to stand.
On September 3, Ms. Zhu's husband and three other family members came to visit her again. She was still not able to walk. When they asked her what happened, she said, "When the Domestic Security police from Linghai City took me to the 2nd Detention Center of Jinzhou City, the cell's door was only half open. I was not able to get in. The police kicked me three times with full strength. I have not been able to walk since then."
In prison, Ms. Zhu's heart disease recurred. She was taken to the prison hospital. The doctor gave her injections and intravenous drip. The drugs caused her whole body to convulse. Ms. Zhu was then forcibly given three pills and subsequently lost consciousness.
Ms. Zhu's family asked Cong Zhou, a deputy section chief of the ward, why they admitted her when she was on the verge of death. He replied that they had admitted prisoners in worse condition. He even let her family pay for her treatment.
