Mr. Zhang Hui was sentenced to eight years in prison. In April 2009, when he was transferred to the hospital, it was too late to do surgery for curing his organ injuries caused by abuse.

Mr. Zhang Hui Died in April as Result of Torture at Gongzhuling Prison

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Zhang Hui, 30, from Antu County, Jilin Province died as a result of brutal torture he suffered at Gongzhuling Prison in Jilin Province.

When the doctor tried to perform surgery on Zhang Hui in April 2009, he saw that Zhang Hui's stomach was black, which did not allow for surgery. Zhang Hui later passed away in the hospital.

The prison spared no effort in covering up information related to Zhang Hui's death. Zhang Hui was savagely abused for a long time at the prison and his organs sustained serious injuries. The officials denied his request for medical parole and only notified his aunt to come to the prison for a visit when it was already too late for medical treatment.

Zhang Hui's mother Gao Zhimin, who is also a Falun Gong practitioner, has been illegally detained at detention centers and labor camps, where she endured inhuman torture. She went to Gongzhuling Prison many times but the officials refused to let her see Zhang Hui, citing that she did not have an "introductory letter" from the local 610 Office. Gao Zhimin died after a sudden stroke in the fall of 2006.

Zhang Hui used to live in Mingyue Town in Antu County, Jilin Province. His parents divorced early, and he grew up with his grandparents and aunts. He moved in with his mother in 1997 when he started high school, and he began practicing Falun Gong at the same time. Zhang Hui's mother Gao Zhimin depended on drugs to sustain her life before she practiced Falun Gong, and she rarely had a restful night's sleep. She completely recovered through Falun Gong practice.

Prior to the incarceration, Zhang Hui was 1.72 meters [5'6''] tall and weighed 70 kg [154 lbs]. He was very healthy. Officers from Yilan Police Station in Yanji City and the Domestic Security Team illegally arrested him on the evening of May 26, 2004 and sentenced him to eight years in prison. He was subsequently held at Gongzhuling Prison in Jilin Province.

Gongzhuling Prison is a place for felons; only criminals who have been sentenced to ten or more years are sent there. Since 1999, this has been a torture chamber for Falun Gong practitioners. The guards use electric shocks, savage beatings, solitary confinement and other means to coerce the practitioners to renounce their belief. The officials also force the practitioners to work for more than ten hours a day. Many practitioners were tortured for resisting the hard labor. Zhang Hui was held at Ward 3. Official Liu Haiyang from the Prison Administration Section beat him and political instructor Wang Jiqing from Ward 3 held him in solitary confinement many times because he resisted the persecution.

The officials at Gongzhuling Prison have been torturing Falun Gong practitioners over the past few years, and it continues to this day. Reportedly, Mr. Jin Taijun from Longjing, Yanbian, Jilin Province was suffering from severe and widespread ulcerations of the flesh, so deep that his bones were visible to the naked eye. His life was in danger, so he was rushed to Gongzhuling Central Hospital in April 2009.
