Based on
the unsubstantiated charge of "interfering with the execution of the law by
means of an illegal organization", CCP authorities in Shenzhou City, Hebei
Province sentenced Ms. Wang Qinghui and Li
Xiaolan to four years, Lu Shunli and Zhang Rong to three years, and Ms. Zhang
Zhimei to three-and-a-half years.
On January 25, 2008, CCP authorities in Shenzhou City, Hebei Province convened a court trial to sentence Falun Gong practitioners. They designated a relative who knew nothing about the law to be their counsel instead of allowing the practitioners to hire a lawyer to plead their cases. "Going through the motions," the officials straight away sentenced the practitioners based on the unsubstantiated charge of "interfering with the execution of the law by means of an illegal organization." Ms. Wang Qinghui and Li Xiaolan were sentenced to four years, Lu Shunli and Zhang Rong were sentenced to three years, and Ms. Zhang Zhimei was sentenced to three-and-a-half years.
More than ten police officers and those from the Domestic Security Team, headed by police officer Liu Baoxiang and village officials, went to arrest Ms. Wang Qinghui around 4:00 a.m. on October 4, 2007. They entered the yard by leaping over the wall and pried the door open. They arrested her, ransacked her home, and confiscated satellite receiving equipment, a DVD, a computer, and other personal belongings.
They even abducted her relative, Mr. Guo Yancun, who had come to help with chores for her son's wedding. Mr. Guo was detained for 70 days and was released after his family paid the police 5,600 yuan.
The Communist agents also arrested Ms. Zhang Zhimei, Li Xiaolan, Zhang Rong, Lu Shuanli--altogether more than 80 practitioners. They ransacked the homes of more than 100 families. Among the 80 arrested practitioners, 77 of them were released after they paid the extortion (between 5000-15000 yuan) while three of them who could not afford to pay the extortion were sent to forced labor.
Ms. Wang Qinghui was taken to the third floor of Shenzhou Police Department. Eleven police officers took turns slapping her. One officer would take a break from beating her while another one continued the abuse. One officer kicked her calf and pulled her hair. He then stepped on both of her legs and pushed her to the ground. He shouted at her and ordered her to "confess her crime." She didn't say anything, and the police pushed her head to make her see others' "confession." Ms. Wang was hurt severely but said, "Is it an achievement for a man to beat a weak woman and ignore the criminals?" Those that heard her were speechless.
Several days later, an official got the approval to arrest her and demanded that she sign the approval letter, but she refused. One police officer grabbed her hand and forced her to submit her fingerprint. Ms. Wang was angry and hurt and fell unconscious. The police hurriedly had someone inject her with a drug to wake her up. Then they took her to Raoyang for detention.
The other arrested practitioner was Ms. Zhang Zhimei, 59. Agents from the
Domestic Security Team beat and verbally abused her. They stepped on her
legs. She was tortured like this for half a day and one night. Her injured legs
only began to heal three months later.
