Several dozen practitioners were arrested for trying to meet on May 9, 2007. After nearly one year of detention, four of them were given long sentences.

Falun Gong Practitioners Harshly Sentenced by Nanguan District Court in Changchun City

Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Wang Fuxia, Mr. Shi Guoliang,  Mr. Gao Weixi and Ms. Yang Defang from Changchun City, Jilin Province were illegally tried and harshly sentenced on April 29, 2008. This was after they had been held in detention for nearly a year. Ms. Wang Fuxia and Mr. Shi Guoliang, were illegally sentenced to nine-year prison terms. Mr. Gao Weixi and Ms. Yang Defang were sentenced to seven-year prison terms. 

The practitioners  had been arrested along with others on May 9, 2007. The Nanguan District Court and Changchun City Intermediate Court had processed their cases earlier this year. The cases had been rejected due to lack of evidence.

The Changchun City Chinese Communist Party officials divided the several dozen Falun Gong practitioners arrested on May 9, 2007, and secretly tried them in different courts. Among them, the Luyuan District Court and Nanguan District Court in Changchun City have illegally tried and severely persecuted Falun Gong practitioners since 1999.

According to reliable sources, the Luyuan District Court in Changchun City secretly tried these Falun Gong practitioners, who had been held for nearly a year, at 3:00 o'clock on April 30. The Chinese Communist Party officials ordered all concerned to attend this "public trial." However, they didn't notify the families of these Falun Gong practitioners about the trial time.

The practitioners were arrested because they had gathered to hold a Falun Gong practice experience sharing conference. Most of them were illegally detained in the 3rd Detention Center in Changchun City. The authorities tried hard to cover up how the practitioners were persecuted during the period of time they were held in detention. However, it is known that among the practitioners who were arrested on May 9, 2007, Ms. Wang Yuhuan, a retired employee, was tortured to death, Mr. Feng Liping suffered broken bones due to beatings, and Ms. Chen Tong was sent to the hospital as the result of a brutal forced-feeding.
