Three elderly women, an unlikely threat to the Communist government, were recently detained and subjected to mental and physical abuse in an effort to force them to renounce their beliefs.Exposing Crimes Committed by Guards at Hulan Prison in Heilongjiang Province An account of some of the torture methods used recently by personnel at the Hulan Prison.
Mingjiang Community Security officer Liu Hong has relentlessly followed Communist regime orders to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. From September 30 to October 30, 2007, Liu Hong again used a web of deceit to arrest practitioners Ms. Shi Lanfang (72 years old), Ms. Zhang Cifang (72 years old) and Ms. Li Fangling (in her sixties). He took them to Hongshunshanzhang Brainwashing Center.
After these three practitioners were detained in the brainwashing center, they were closely monitored around the clock and forced to watch videos that slandered Falun Gong. Oftentimes, they were faced with one or more people who continually yelled at them and tried to brainwash them. They were often verbally abused and beaten. The Judicial Bureau deputy director, Chen Decai, once cruelly beat Ms. Shi Lanfang.
In the brainwashing center, those in charge reduced the amount of food given to these practitioners. The practitioners also had limited time to eat, to wash clothes and to sleep. They even had a set time for using the bathroom. The people in the brainwashing center used various methods to exhaust the practitioners. One time, because Ms. Shi Lanfang was in the bathroom longer than her allowed time, the director of the 610 Office, Chen Jiuyun, ordered a male security guard to break into the bathroom and drag her out.
On one occasion, Ms. Zhang Cifang sat down a little bit longer than permitted and the monitor (who was ordered by Liu Hong to watch her) said that she was doing the Falun Gong exercises and screamed at her. Another time Liu Hong said, "I don't have a gun, but if I had one, I would shoot you."
These monitors also kept the door and windows shut around the clock. They lit poisonous mosquito incense and then ran out of the room, and watched Ms. Zhang Cifang through the windows. The poisonous smoke caused Ms. Zhang Cifang to cough badly. When she tried to open the door a little bit, the personal cangues closed it immediately. The agony was intolerable.
Ms. Zhang Cifang didn't have a change of clothes. She asked for clothes several times, and they finally allowed her to get some. Someone brought her two pairs of new socks and asked Liu Hong to take them to her. Liu Hong kept them for himself. So during the time she was in the brainwashing center, Ms. Zhang Cifang had only one pair of socks.

On January 21, 2008, at 2 p.m., Falun Gong practitioner Liu Zhimin, illegally detained at Hulan Prison, was beaten up by political instructor Lu Mingdong. Lu said while beating Mr. Liu, "I will be responsible if you suffer a concussion." Liu Zhimin still lies in bed, his face swollen and his teeth loose.On February 1, 2008, at 10 am, police instructor Xu Zhiming, and guards Zhao Jun and Lin Zhiguo used electric batons to torture practitioner Zhao Jiulong. They also beat him.
The training site is where Falun Gong practitioners are most severely persecuted at Hulan Prison. Policeman Wang Jian is the team leader, Xu Ruye is the section leader. Both of them are responsible for persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. They ordered and incited prisoners Shen Gang, He Yan, Gao Jianping, Yu Xinqi, Wang Jianfei, and Wang Zhiquan to torture practitioners.
The persecution methods used included the following:
- Being forced to stand still from 7:00 am. to midnight;
- Being forced to watch videos that slandered Falun Dafa;
- "Chain sitting", where one's chest is bound tightly to the back of the person in front. The eyes have to focus on the front persons' head, and the legs have to be spread apart. They have to sit like this for 14 to 15 hours every day. Practitioners' eyes must be open, otherwise they would be beaten;
- The hands, arms and legs are pushed, pulled and folded into unnatural positions;
- Practitioners' letters were confiscated, and they were not allowed any contact with family members;
- Being detained past the sentence term, anywhere from 6 to 18 months;
- Four inmates were assigned to monitor and torture one practitioner day and night, the practitioner was deprived of the right to speak or to write;
- Falun Gong practitioners could be searched anytime and anywhere.
Prisoner He Yan was a death row inmate from Jiamusi, Heilongjiang Province. He was ordered to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. He enjoyed the persecution and said that he was not afraid of receiving karmic retribution from his deeds. Xu Ruye often beat and abused Falun Gong practitioners.
