  • Ms. Li Li Persecuted in Jiangsu Province Women's Forced Labor Camp

Ms. Li Li is currently being detained in the Jiangsu Province Women's Forced Labor Camp, (formally the Judong Women's Forced Labor Camp). Ms. Li has been on a hunger strike for more than 15 days to protest the persecution. She is very weak. Her family members requested that she be examined by a doctor, but the officials from the labor camp and the Gulou District 610 Office rejected their request.

On March 19, 2007, police arrested Ms. Li and detained her in the Nanjing City Detention Center. Two months later, on May 23, 2007, she was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor. On June 1, 2007, Ms. Li's family members went to visit her. She was very thin, both of her legs were swollen and she was losing her eyesight. Because Ms. Li refused to renounce Falun Gong, the camp police "punished" her by forcing her to stand under the scorching summer sun. Her skin was badly sun burnt and peeling.

On January 15, 2008, Hua (given name unknown), a police officer from the Jiangsu Province Women's Labor Camp, called Ms. Li's family and told them that Ms. Li had bit her finger until it bled and she unable to stand up. Ms. Li's family requested to see her. On January 17, 2008, Hua told her family members to come to the camp. However, when her family arrived at the labor camp, they were not allowed to see Ms. Li because she refused to renounce Falun Gong.

By January 17, 2008, Ms. Li had been on hunger strike for five days. Her family requested that she be examined by a doctor but the labor camp officials refused. The family was told to get permission from the Gulou District "610 Office" to see Ms Li. That afternoon, her family members went to the Gulou District 610 Office director, Qiu Linxiang, and made their request. Qiu, however, told them to go to the judicial department. Ms. Li's family was not granted permission to see her.

Ms. Li is 46 years old. Labor camp police tortured Ms. Li by taping her eyes open and depriving her of sleep. She has been on hunger strike for more than 15 days and is very weak. Ms. Li has other injuries and is unable to move by herself.

Three Falun Gong Practitioners Detained at Liaoyuan Road Police Station, Qingdao City, Shandong Province

Chinese Communist Party agents arrested Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Lu Xueqin from Shuiqinggou, Qingdao City, Shandong Province on January 26, 2008. They also arrested and searched the home of another practitioner, 50-year-old Ms. Wang Yuling from the Second District. The women were both detained in Liaoyuan Road Police Station. The day before, on January 27, practitioner Mr. Yin from Li Village, Qingdao City was arrested on his way home, and the police searched his home. They confiscated Falun Gong books, truth-clarification materials and a computer. Mr. Yin is also held in the Liaoyuan Road Police Station. The agents even impounded his van.

According to information from a source in the police station, the recent arrests of practitioners by Qingdao National Security agents happened because of a direct order from the National Security Department and the Police Department of Shandong Province. The Special Case Group responsible for persecuting Falun Gong is located at Hefei Road Police Station.

The following is an account of the arrest of Ms. Lu Xueqin:

On January 26, 2008, Ms. Lu Xueqin had gone to a market at 5:00 p.m. to shop for groceries and was followed. The police arrested her and took her to the Liaoyuan Road Police Station. At 6:00 p.m. three plainclothes policemen went to Ms. Lu's home and monitored her husband and daughter. One of the policemen attempted to beat them.

A total of ten policemen eventually arrived at Ms. Lu's home between 6:00 p.m. and midnight. Two policemen came with a search warrant and commenced the illegal search. Two officers pushed Ms. Lu's husband on the sofa, so he could not move. They even attempted to beat him. They confiscated all Falun Gong books, Falun Gong materials, pictures of Master, phone cards, an MP3 player, U drive, electronic books, five to six cell phones (some of them were out of service) and a total of 130,000 yuan in cash. Ms. Lu's husband told them that his daughter used the computer for her schoolwork, so they left the computer. The policemen even searched the room where Ms. Lu's husband stored tools; their daughter's backpack and the husband's car. Finally, they also took the husband and daughter to the police station and interrogated them separately until 3:00 a.m.
