After long imprisonment and torture, Mr. Han is dying in a hospital but his family still has not been able to obtain a medical release.
Mr. Han Weixin is Dying in the 4th Prison of Hebei Province
Mr. Han Weixin, 45, was employed as a Shipping Management Station Director by Anxin County Transportation Bureau. He began practicing Falun Gong in 1996, and his chronic diabetes was cured. He stopped smoking and drinking, and worked very hard by following the principles Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. His colleagues and friends praised him for the changes he made.
After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, Mr. Han was detained in the Army Storage and Ma Village Teacher Training Center and forced to go through brainwashing by the 610 Office. He was closely monitored all year. In September 2001, his employer was afraid he would go to Beijing to appeal, and locked him on the fourth floor of their office building. He escaped this illegal detention and fled home. He was arrested in Baoding City while involved in tapping into the TV system to broadcast truth-clarifying videos. The Xushui County Court sentenced him to 15 years in prison, and has kept him locked in the 4th Prison of Hebei Province ever since. He is suffering from severe tuberculosis, his diabetes has recurred, and he has reduced eyesight. He was in the Prison Hospital for nine months and his family has requested multiple times to bail him out on medical parole, but the hospital administration has refused all requests.
At the end of November 2008, Mr. Han suddenly began to have diabetic complications and was dying. The prison administration sent him to the Shijiazhuang City Chest Hospital for emergency care. Doctors found he had a massive hydrothorax and lung failure with one lung appearing to have dead tissue. He had a rapid heartbeat, blindness in his right eye, and poor digestion. He used to be a 6 foot, 200 pound man, but he has become only skin and bones. The prison administration did not want to pay for his medical costs so notified his family to take care of him in the hospital.
The prison assigned a man with the surname of Meng to be in charge of Mr. Han's case. Four guards took turns to watch over him in the Intensive Care Unit. No one was allowed to enter except his family. Mr. Han's wife, son, older sister, and brother-in-law are taking turns caring for him by his hospital bed. He is unable to care for himself and is in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit. His family has already paid more than twenty thousand yuan in costs.
It has been reported that the prison administration has twice dispatched a person to negotiate with Anxin County Police Department, but the County Police Department refused to release Mr. Han.
