  • Ms. Yang Guifen from Dengfeng City, Henan Province Died as a Result of Persecution

Falun Gong practitioners Ms. Yang Guifen, Ms. Hu Guilan, Ms. Li Ping, and Ms. Niu Aizhen from Dengfeng City, Henan Province, and practitioners Ms. Li Congli and Mr. Zhang Xuesen from Yanshi were illegally arrested on December 24, 2005. They were held at Dengfeng City Detention Center, where the guards savagely beat all six practitioners. The lawless officials illegally tried the practitioners twice in court, even though there was no evidence against the practitioners. Officials have refused to release the practitioners.

Ms. Yang Guifen was beaten until she suffered internal bleeding. She was also forced to do slave labor at the detention center. She was forced to wear a pair of shackles weighing 19 kg [42 lbs] and was released in May 2006 when she was on the brink of death. She passed away on July 18, 2006.

Vicious Deeds Committed by Gong Jingwen from the National Security Group of Dongguang County, Hebei Province

Gong Jingwen from Dagong Village, Dongguang County, Hebei Province was a political instructor after being discharged from the army. He was then promoted to chief of the Political Security Section of the National Security Group in Dongguang County. Over the last few years under his supervision, Falun Gong practitioners have been forced to give information while being tortured, and fabricated crimes have been used to send six practitioners to a forced labor camp without trial. Three practitioners have been imprisoned with terms up to eight years, twelve practitioners have been arrested, thirty practitioners have been forced to undergo brainwashing, three have had to leave home to avoid arrest, and seven have had marriages end in divorce.

Gong Jingwen has confiscated property from practitioners worth up to 100,000 yuan (based on incomplete statistics). Some practitioners' capital for their small businesses was confiscated and never returned. Some practitioners were taken to the Political Defense Section of Dongguang County for a so-called "conversation." If the practitioner refused to cooperate, he or she would be illegally detained and tortured. Gong Jingwen frequently breaks into practitioners' houses, and on one occasion, he took 1,400 yuan in cash from an unattended house.

Gong Jingwen joined forces with the Chinese Communist Party Committee of Lian Town to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. During his tenure of duty, he arrested Ms. Qu Shufen from Cheng Village and extorted money from her family. Since the persecution began in 1999, Ms. Qu has been illegally detained for over 90 days, and her husband has been detained for over four months. The family was first charged 3,200 yuan by the Police Station of Lian Township, then fined 3,700 yuan by the Political Defense Section (which is run by Gong Jingwen). For her release, the family had to pay the detention center 770 yuan, and Gong Jingwen 1,000 yuan. Ms. Qu later passed away due to the physical and psychological trauma of the persecution.

Gong Jingwen incites or executes torture upon Falun Gong practitioners. The following lists the torture methods he has used:

    1. Beating. Some practitioners were secretly detained in the No. 26 Squadron of the Traffic Police Team in Chengguan Police Station, handcuffed and hung up for 48 hours or longer, then brutally beaten. One practitioner was beaten so badly with a wooden club that six months after his release he still cannot move. Slapping practitioners in their faces, resulting in swelling or bleeding, is a also very common practice.

    2. Freezing. In the cold winter of northern China, some practitioners were taken outdoors, and stripped, handcuffed and hung from a steel pole. The torture was not stopped until the practitioner was half-frozen and had lost consciousness. This inhuman act was committed against an older woman.

    3. Forced-feeding. Practitioners who held hunger strikes were subjected to forced-feeding. The stomach tube wasn't pulled out for five or six days. Brine concentrate was also added from time to time, which caused severe damage to the stomach.

    4. Steel bench. Practitioners were tied up on a steel bench for up to five days, and not allowed to sleep. When released, some practitioners fainted.

    5. Practitioners were forced to continuously squat, stand or run for long periods.

    6. Practitioners' fingers or other body parts were burned with cigarettes.

    7. Practitioners were stabbed in the ribs with chopsticks or bottles. This torture is too painful to describe with words, and no superficial wounds can be seen.

    8. Practitioners' employers are compelled to monitor their everyday lives, and to write a guarantee statement promising to quit the practice, or slander the name of Falun Gong.

    9. Practitioners' homes and telephones are constantly monitored.

Prison Doctor Zhao Yingling Instructed Inmates to Subject Falun Gong Practitioners to Tortures

At 2:00 p.m. on December 25, 2006, prison head Liu Zhiqiang (male) of the Women's Prison in Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province established Ward 13 on the fourth floor of Ward 10 to specifically "transform" (brainwash) Falun Gong practitioners.

On December 1, 2006, Liu Zhiqiang held a meeting with criminal inmates to make a plan for brainwashing practitioners with a full effort. The prison guards instructed inmates to torture practitioners. The persecution methods they used included hanging practitioners by their handcuffed wrists, not allowing them to use the toilet, one-minute meal times, etc. If an inmate made a hard effort to torture practitioners, the guards would give her a high score.

Practitioner Ms. Liu Dan was badly beaten by an inmate while she was meditating. Ms. Liu reported the beating to a prison guard but the incident was ignored, so she started a hunger strike. The guards of Ward 10 moved Ms. Liu to a strictly-controlled team in Ward 11 for torture. Two weeks later, after being tortured to the full extent, she was detained in Room 302 in the hospital in Supervision Area 4. On the morning of November 29, inmates Zhou Fengli and Zhao Liyu (both female) forced Ms. Liu to wear clothes on which the so-called "crimes" of Falun Gong were written. Ms. Liu refused to put them on. The two inmates then tied her to a bed with the clothes, in a position such that she was unable to stand or sit. Ms. Liu could not bear the torture and lost consciousness. The two inmates accused her of pretending to do so. When Ms. Liu woke up, she started vomiting. The prison hospital head Zhao Yingling (female) instructed the two inmates to put the vomit back into Ms. Liu's mouth. They also spread it on her socks, and then they smeared it on her body and face with the socks. Ms. Liu Dan shouted "Falun Dafa is good!" so they sealed her mouth with adhesive tape. The two inmates said, "We don't fear your appeals. It is useless to report this to anyone. The prison had Liu Zhiqing and Xiao Lin (female) instruct us to do this."

Practitioner Ms. Huang Yanzhen shouted "Falun Dafa is good!" when she was beaten. Zhao Yingling ordered the nurse to inject her with medicine that was used for psychosis, which caused Ms. Huang to become mentally disordered. Prison inmates Zhang Fangqing and Li Hongbo taught other inmates how to tie practitioners to a bed with cloth strips. They used all kinds of methods to torture practitioners. Practitioner Ms. He Lihua can no longer move her arms due to the torture.

Brutal Persecution Leads to Hunger Strike at Xindian Women's Forced Labor Camp in Shanxi Province

Six Falun Gong practitioners currently held in Xindian Women's Forced Labor Camp in Shanxi Province have been resisting repeated attempts to brainwash them. These practitioners -- Ms. Liu Taojiang, Ms. Su Xiufen, Ms. Qin Junping, Ms. Ma Yueying, Ms. Li Xiulian, and Ms. Xin Enhao -- are holding a hunger strike to protest their brutal persecution.

The labor camp guards use a variety of methods to torture these practitioners, including confining them in wooden stocks, force-feeding them, and depriving them of sleep. The guards also use inmates who are drug addicts to monitor these practitioners.

The guards typically feign kindness in an attempt to deceive practitioners when they first arrive at the labor camp. But within three days, the guards will not allow them to sleep if they refuse to renounce Falun Gong. They may sleep only after they have written the so-called three statements. Those practitioners who refuse to "transform" are not allowed to eat with other inmates, to bathe, or to have visitors. Collaborators and inmates who are drug addicts monitor practitioners constantly. Those who refuse to renounce Falun Gong are subjected to humiliation, violence, and verbal abuse. The chief prison guard says with sarcasm, "They haven't finished their lessons yet. They need to study harder."

The practitioners are in a constant state of lethargy as a result of the torture, and they are forced to endure additional physical punishment as well. Some practitioners have been deprived of sleep for sixteen consecutive days. Some have even gone deaf as a result of the inhuman torture and persecution at the camp.

On New Year's Eve of 2007, guards force-fed practitioner Ms. Liu Taojiang, who was on a hunger strike to protest her persecution. A few hours later, she fell unconscious. After her condition had deteriorated even further, the guards sent her to the hospital. Thanks to the righteous thoughts of all the practitioners at the labor camp, Ms. Liu was out of danger by 2:00 a.m. the next morning.

On January 2 and 3, the guards again force-fed Ms. Liu. When Ms. Liu attempted to resist, Liu Zhongmei, the head of Group 3 (who herself had committed many crimes), ordered seven inmates to pry Ms. Liu's mouth open with spoons. Ms. Liu's mouth began to bleed, and she snatched one of the spoons away. At this, Liu Zhongmei left and gave the other inmates complete freedom to torture Falun Gong practitioners. Fortunately, some nearby practitioners were able to prevent the inmates from torturing Ms. Liu further. At midnight on January 3, however, the guards secretly detained her. Every day, one head guard and three inmates monitored Ms. Liu. They handcuffed her many times and used electric batons to shock her. To protest this cruel treatment, the practitioners at the labor camp have been holding hunger strikes for as long as two months.
