Ms. Liu Jinfeng from Hunan Province Severely Beaten Recently

Ms. Liu Jinfeng lives in Huoma Village in Maping Township, Wugang City, Hunan Province. On July 6, 2007, Ms. Liu Jinfeng and Ms. Liu Liumei clarified the truth to people on their way to the market. They explained to others how the Jiang regime told lies about Falun Gong and how practitioners were being persecuted. Zhang Congwei, the Party secretary of Wanshan Village, Maping Township, reported them to the authorities. Liu Chaoyang, director of the Maping Township Police Station, along with another police officer, chased the two practitioners into the mountains on motorcycles. The policeman smashed Ms. Liu Jinfeng's head against the ground while Liu Chaoyang punched and kicked her. The two were manhandled into a police car and taken to Wugang City Detention Center.

While in the detention center, Ms. Liu Jinfeng was often beaten very badly by Deng Yong'an, director of the detention center, because she refused to renounce Falun Gong. She was put in handcuffs and shackles. On July 23, 2007, at around 10:00 a.m., during one of the more severe beatings by Deng, Ms. Liu lost consciousness. Shen, a female police officer (given name unknown) poured water on Ms. Liu to wake her up, then the torture continued. After the beating, Ms. Liu was unable to move. She could not walk to the restroom without support and needed assistance with her pants.

On July 25, 2007, despite Ms. Liu Jinfeng's severe condition, Deng sent her to Suining Detention Center. Officials of Suining Detention Center were afraid that her condition was so poor that her life was in danger, so they sent her back to Wugang City Detention Center after ten days.

Ms. Liu's family members were not aware that she was being beaten or that she was in such a fragile state. Deng lied to the family, telling them that Ms. Liu Jinfeng and Ms. Liu Liumei didn't want to see them, but Ms. Liu Jinfeng's husband, Mr. Su Yangkun, did not believe Deng. Early on the morning of August 6, 2007, Mr. Su and other family members went to the detention center again and insisted on seeing Ms. Liu. Coincidently, Liu Chaoyang planned to secretly send Ms. Liu Jinfeng and Ms. Liu Liumei to a forced labor camp that same day. Liu Chaoyang refused Mr. Su's request and physically blocked him from seeing Ms. Liu Jinfen. He punched Mr. Su in the chest. Mr. Su's daughter and son-in-law were in tears when they saw this.

On August 6, 2007, Ms. Liu Jinfeng and Ms. Liu Liumei were secretly sent to Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. After such long-term torture, Ms. Liu Jinfeng was in terrible condition and showed symptoms of her old illnesses. The labor camp refused to accept her because of her poor physical condition as determined by the admission physical.

After Ms. Liu Jinfeng's family were notified, they immediately took a cab to the Wugang Detention Center. Before they released Liu Jinfeng, 500 yuan was extorted from the family by Deng Yong'an for Ms. Liu's so-called "living expenses." When Ms. Liu walked out to meet her family, no police officers were present. When her family saw her, she was very skinny and had bruises all over.

The couple was arrested at 7:00 a.m. on March 24 by Zhang Wei, head of the 610 Office, and other police officers from Tiexi National Security Team, the Twelfth Road Police Station. Mr. Zhang was sentenced to seven years and Ms. Wang to three years.

Wang Fenghuan's mother lived with the couple. Her daughter and son-in-law's arrests frightened her so badly that she died the day before they were sentenced. Another happy family was broken up.

Mr. Zhang, 45, worked in the technical department of Shenyang Machine Tool Factory. He was very skilled at his job and was recognized for many years as a model worker and a master of his craft. Ms. Wang was a housewife. They both practiced Falun Gong. Many people in the community knew them as practitioners and good people, and respected the couple for clarifying the truth about Falun Gong despite the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) cruel persecution.

When they were arrested on March 24, the 610 Office head Zhang Wei and other officers from Tiexi National Security Team and the Twelfth Road Police Station, led by station chief Dong Bin, knocked on the couple's door. The couple was illegally arrested, and their house was searched. Many officers and police vehicles stayed outside. They confiscated a computer, a printer, a CD burner, and many Falun Gong materials.

At the station, the police interrogated them about the source of the Falun Gong materials. The couple refused to cooperate and were cruelly tortured by being electrically shocked, handcuffed behind their backs, and punched. Ms. Wang's false teeth were knocked out. On the way to the detention center, Ms. Wang's handcuffs embedded themselves into her flesh, causing her great pain. The police also arrested three other practitioners. Mr. Zhang was sent to Shahezi Detention Center and Ms. Wang was detained at the 1st Detention Center of Shenyang City.

Zhang Ke and Wang Fenghuan have petitioned the court since being illegally sentenced on September 14.
