  • The Autrocities of Su Jing and Wang Naimin at Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in the Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners

Su Jing and Wang Naimin, heads of the Women’s 2nd Branch of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province are responsible for the brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners there for the past seven years.

Su Jing, head of the Women's No. 2 Camp

Wang Naimin, deputy head of the Women's No. 2 Camp

The 2nd Branch of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp was established at the end of October 1999, and is under the administration of the Ministry of Justice. The camp is used to torture and brainwash Falun Gong practitioners. The Ministry of Justice allocated one million yuan to the camp to expand the "environment" there. Communist Party leaders Luo Gan, Liu Jing and others went to the labor camp to personally give instructions on carrying out the persecution.

Various types of torture methods are used to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their belief: body-folding (1), holding up one's arms for extended periods of time; hanging upside-down; gagging or taping the mouth; tying up; hanging up; handcuffing; sitting in a basin of cold water; savage beatings; electric shock; force-feeding; Death Bed; and freezing, among others. An incidence of egregious sexual abuse took place there in October 2000: eighteen women Falun Gong practitioners were stripped naked and thrown into a room of male prisoners. The inhuman tortures at Masanjia have resulted in the death of at least 11 Falun Gong practitioners and in disability and mental breakdowns in many others.

Labor camp heads Su Jing and Wang Naimin are personally responsible for the brutal torture of Falun Gong practitioners at this camp. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has promoted torture methods used at this labor camp within the prison and forced labor system throughout the country.

Please visit the following links for more details on some torture methods used at Masanjia Labor Camp:

The Cases of Falun Gong practitioners who died or suffered mental breakdown from torture at Masanjia

    (1) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Jinghua and many others suffered a mental breakdown under the persecution

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Li Jinghua, 34 years old, lived in Lizhangzi Village, Shaoduba Township, Longcheng District, Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province. She was sent to Masanjia on October 30, 1999 and suffered a nervous breakdown in 2001 as a result of torture.

The guards at Masanjia resorted to numerous torture methods in an attempt to force Li Jinghua give up her belief. Guard Zhang Yan at the 1st Women’s Labor Camp locked her in a small cell and tortured her with a method called "Flying an Airplane" (2) for nine days and nine nights. Then at the 1st Women’s Labor Camp, Li Jinghua was forbidden to sleep, shocked with electric batons and later sent to stay in a mental hospital until she suffered a mental collapse. Yang Yu, head of the 3rd Group, team leader Zhang Yan and Wang Yanping, head of the 1st Group are responsible for torturing Li Jinghua.

Falun Gong practitioners Qi Zhenrong and 27-year-old Jiang Yan from Benxi City, Liaoning Province, as well as Yang Jingzhi, employed as a doctor at the 7th Middle School’s clinic in Beipiao City, have suffered a nervous breakdown at Masanjia Labor Camp after torture and brainwashing. Yang Jingzhi was held at Masanjia three times and died from torture.

    (2) Ms. Zhang Haiyan passed away after suffering a mental breakdown

Ms. Zhang Haiyan from Heishan County, Liaoning Province suffered a mental breakdown from torture at Masanjia. She passed away later after great suffering.

Ms. Zhang Haiyan lived in Wangjiazirantun, Xiyou Village, Hujia Town, Heishan County, Liaoning Province. She started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. Soon afterwards, her bowed right leg became normal. She benefited tremendously from Falun Gong practice, both physically and mentally. After the persecution began, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in September 2001, and was arrested and held at Heishan Detention Center. Two months later she was sent to Masanjia, where she was held for the next two years.

Zhang Haiyan was hung up by her handcuffed hands for long periods of time. Her entire body was tied up, and she was beaten. When her family saw her in February 2003, they noticed that her head was wrapped in gauze, her hands were badly swollen and she could not talk. The labor camp told her family to pick her up on March 21, 2003. Zhang Haiyan had by then suffered a nervous breakdown and could not take care of herself. Her family also found three deep scars, each about 0.2 inch wide and 5 inch long on her head and neck.

The torture had irreversibly traumatized Ms. Zhang. She dared not speak to anyone during the ten months she was home, not even her husband and children. She passed away on January 18, 2004, after living in terrible agony and fear.

    (3) Wang Wenjun passed away as a result of torture

Ms. Wang Wenjun was a 38-year-old worker at the Nuerhe Weaving Factory in Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. She was held at Group Three, the 1st Group of the labor camp.

The authorities forced her to do slave labor. Her health deteriorated due to long-term persecution. Wang Wenjun started to suffer from a stomachache and abnormal vaginal bleeding since May 2002. The guards ignored her condition and continued to assign her the same workload.

The officials resorted to violence to brainwash determined Falun Gong practitioners. They tied Wang Wenjun into a ball for five hours, with her legs against her chest. Wang Wenjun was in terrible condition and suffered from such severe stomachache that she could not sleep at night. She was eventually diagnosed at the Masanjia hospital with terminal uterine cancer and was finally released. Wang Wenjun passed away at home on July 22, 2003.

Wang Wenjun's sister Wang Wenjuan also practices Falun Gong. Wang Wenjuan was still being tortured at Masanjia when Wang Wenjun passed away.

    (4) Zou Guirong passed away after torture

Ms. Zou Guirong, 36 years old, worked at the Xinbin County Section for the Fushun City Public Highway System in Liaoning Province. She was tortured for two years at Masanjia and many other labor camps in Liaoning Province.

Zou Guirong was held in the 2nd Team of the camp in 2000, where she was savagely tortured. The guards forced her to bend over with her arms raised up behind her body in a torture method called "Flying an Airplane;" they also made her assume the position of "Riding a Motorcycle," and half-squat for five days and nights. Guards Zhang Xiurong and Wang Naimin shocked Ms. Zou with four electric batons at once; they stabbed her with steel needles; they beat her until her entire body was black and blue and her thighs so swollen she could not get into bed.

Zou Guirong exposed the persecution at Masanjia. Head of the 1st Group surnamed Wang ordered the guards to inject Zou Guirong with nerve-damaging drugs. These drugs resulted in immobility and loss of facial expression within five minutes of the injection.

Zou Guirong was transferred to the 4th Team and savagely beaten by team leader Zhang Xiuyun. The camp authorities extended her term. Then she was tortured at the Shenxin Labor Camp and the underground hospital at the Dabei Prison, where she was force-fed until she vomited blood. They released her at death's door. A short while later the police arrested Ms. Zou again and sent her to the Wujiabao Labor Camp. She passed away at the end of April 2002 at the Fushun City Hospital.

    (5) Ms. Bai Shuzhen tortured to death

Ms. Bai Shuzhen, 60 years old, lived in Wafangdian City, Liaoning Province. She was held at Wafangdian City Custody Center many times. After the second arrest she was taken to Masanjia, where she was forced to kneel on a narrow, 10" long wooden plank or on a brick. She was shocked with high-voltage electric batons and made to stay out in the scorching heat for an extended period of time. She was compelled to work until midnight each day. Bai Shuzhen died from torture at Masanjia Labor Camp in April 2003.

    (6) Ms. Zhang Guizhi died from torture

Ms. Zhang Guizhi, 47 years old, lived in Liujiawopu Village, Xinmin Town, Taihe District, Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province. Officers from the Xiaolingzi Airport Police Station in Taihe District arrested her from home and took her to the 1st Detention Center in Jinzhou City. Two months later she was sentenced to two years of forced labor and transferred to the 1st Team of the 2nd Group of the camp. She was subjected to slave labor and brainwashing.

Ms. Zhang's family received a notice jointly issued by the labor camp, the local police station and the village Party committee saying, "Zhang Guizhi is receiving emergency treatment because she is critically ill." When her family rushed to Masanjia, her body was in the Masanjia Hospital morgue.

When Zhang Guizhi's family asked for the cause of her death, the top labor camp officials never showed up. The team forbade them to take pictures of the body. Her family noticed many physical injuries, purple spots on her body and bloodstains in her nose and mouth. Parts of her body were black and blue.

    (7) Ms. Wang Yan died from torture

Ms. Wang Yan, 37 years old, lived on Shidao Street, Xigang District, Dalian City, Liaoning Province. She was arrested in April 2001 and sent to Masanjia. Wang Yan was forced to do slave labor from 5:30 a.m. until midnight. In July 2001, Wang Yan was brutally force-fed while being handcuffed with her arms behind her back all day long. She was then held at Group 4, the 1st Group. Her family carried her home on their backs in September 2003. She passed away on October 1.

    (8) Ms. Li Baojie died from brutal force-feeding

Ms. Li Baojie, 32 years old, lived in Panshan County, Panjin City, Liaoning Province. She was arrested and detained many times for persisting in Falun Gong practice. She was at Masanjia after being sentenced to three years of forced labor in August 2004. Ms. Li was forbidden to sleep, forced to stand in the hallway, when allowed to sleep had to do so on the floor, and was savagely force-fed four times a day. The torture lasted several months.

On April 7, 2005, Li Mingyu, head of the 1st Group, labor camp doctor Cao Yujie, as well as individuals named Ding Taiyong, Chen Bing and several others pinched Li Baojie’s nose, used a pair of pliers to pry Li Baojie’s mouth open and force-fed her with corn porridge. Li Baojie suffocated. The officials panicked and tried to revive her. They later took her to the 1st Hospital Affiliated with China Medical University in Shenyang City. Li Baojie passed away the following day, on April 8, 2005.

    (9) Ms. Gao Rongrong was murdered to destroy evidence of abuse

Ms. Gao Rongrong, 37 years old, worked at the Luxun Institute of Fine Arts in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province. She was arrested numerous times for practicing Falun Gong. Longshan Labor Camp guards in Shenyang City shocked her repeatedly with electric batons for seven hours on May 7, 2004, which resulted in severe facial disfigurement. She broke free on October 5, 2004 with help from other Falun Gong practitioners. Gao Rongrong’s disfigured face photo was published overseas. Her successful escape infuriated the CCP leaders, who started a manhunt for Gao Rongrong in an attempt to destroy the evidence.

National Security agents in Shenyang City arrested Gao Rongrong on March 6, 2005 and secretly held her at Masanjia. Guards Wang Wei, Su Jing, Zhao Laixi and others strictly blocked information on Gao Rongrong while they also prevented her parents from discovering her whereabouts. They also sent guards from the security division of the camp to monitor Ms. Gao around the clock. Gao Rongrong had then been placed in isolation. Subsequently, Masanjia officials secretly transferred Ms. Gao to the General Hospital of Liaoning Prison Administration Bureau and to the 1st Hospital Affiliated to China Medical University in Shenyang City. Gao Rongrong died in the Emergency Room on June 16, 2005.

    (10) Ms. Qin Qingfang tortured to death

Ms. Qin Qingfang, 63 years old, lived in the Yigong Community on Jiangjun Street in the Shuncheng District, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. After she began practicing Falun Gong in 1998, she was cured of skin conditions that had afflicted her for decades, and her body and mind were purified. Qin Qingfang was arrested many times after the Party began persecuting Falun Gong in July 1999. In July 2004, just a few months after she was released from the Fushun City Labor Camp, the officials from the CCP Political and Legal Committee in Shuncheng District and CCP officials from Jiangjun Neighborhood Committee arrested her again and sentenced her to three years of forced labor. She was held at Masanjia.

The guards at the 1st Team of the 1st Group force-fed Ms. Qin Qingfang on April 7, 2005 and nearly choked her. She died from torture on July 9, 2005. The labor camp officials later handed her family a box containing her ashes.

    (11) Ms. Su Juzhen Suffered a Mental Collapse and Died from Torture and Drug Poisoning

Ms. Su Juzhen, 49 years old, lived in Gucheng, Qiansuo Town, Suizhong County, Huludao City, Liaoning Province. She had suffered from severe heart disease, stomach problems, gallbladder roundworms and pancreatitis, among other conditions. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1996, and soon all of her illnesses disappeared. Su Juzhen conducted herself according to Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance at all times. She owned a beauty parlor and provided free services to poor customers. She also provided financial assistance to underprivileged students and often visited residents of nursing homes, bringing them food and gifts and gave them free haircuts. She donated money to repair the Xihe Bridge. Her family was awarded the title, "Ten Outstanding Families" by the Huludao City government.

Su Juzhen spoke the truth about Falun Gong on October 31, 1999 and was sent to the 1st Women’s Branch of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp. Group head Wang Yanping stripped her naked and shocked her with electric batons until large blisters appeared on her body and face and she became black and blue. Su Juzhen and nine other Falun Gong practitioners were sent to the 2nd Women's Branch around May 2000 for "experimental brainwashing." Guard Zhang Xiurong handcuffed Su Juzhen upside down to a metal bed. Guard Qiu Ping and political head Wang Shuzheng (who was later promoted to deputy head of the 1st Group) shocked Su Juzhen with electric batons until she could no longer walk and her hands were covered with wounds.

Su Juzhen was later transferred to these forced labor camps: Zhangshi, Longshan and Shenxin, where she was injected with nerve-damaging drugs until she suffered a mental breakdown. At her eventual release, Ms. Su was covered in wounds, her eyes were blank and she had no memory. She could not speak, walk or eat, and needed help going to the restroom. She passed away at 8:30 a.m. on April 8, 2006.

    (12) Ms. Wang Yunjie passed away after electric baton shocks infected one of her breasts

Ms. Wang Yunjie, 40 years old, lived in Dalian City, Liaoning Province. She was taken to Masanjia on June 4, 2002. Group head Wang Xiaofeng, guards Shi Yu and Ren Hongzan and others brutally tortured her. They locked her in a water dungeon, a triangle-shaped warehouse and a basement for four months. She was tied to fixed objects; was forced to squat, bend over in a humiliating position and stand in military posture; was savagely beaten; made to stand in the scorching heat; hung up by her handcuffs; compelled to do heavy slave labor and had her breast shocked with electric batons, resulting in an infection.

A "reform team" consisting of male officers from the Liaoning Province Police Department went to Masanjia on December 3, 2002. The team was headed by Sun, deputy head of the police department, and Guo Tieying, former head of Benxi Drug Rehabilitation Center. One day they forced Wang Yunjie to stand in a corner; the next day they handcuffed her hands to a chair behind her back. In the evening they put a motorcycle helmet on her head and would pour cold water on her whenever she dozed off and would noisily bang on the helmet with chopsticks.

One of Wang Yunjie’s breasts had become infected from electric shock. Two guards held electric batons and threatened to shock her breasts again. They forced her to stand all night. Guard Guo Tieying called two guards and several others. They tore a bed-sheet into long strips and tied Wang Yunjie’s legs into the double-crossed-legs position. They then tied her into a ball and hung her up by her handcuffs, her arms behind her back. After a long time Ms. Wang could not walk or sit in an upright position.

The guards thought she was on the verge of death and urged Wang Yunjie's family to take her home in November 2003. The infection in her breast continued to progress after she went home, and she passed away in July 2006.

Additional information regarding Su Jing and Wang Naimin

Su Jing, female, 54 years old, heads the 2nd Women's Branch of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp . For the past seven years she has planned and directed different persecution schemes to torment Falun Gong practitioners and is a head perpetrator responsible for the persecution. She was awarded a Second Class Award for actively persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. The Ministry of Justice also awarded her 50,000 yuan. She further was recognized as one of the "National Heroes and Model Workers" in September 2003 for her ruthless torture tactics. Su Jing’s address is 8#262 No. 16 Xijiang Street, Yuhong District, Shenyang City.

Wang Naimin, female, is in her 40s and is the deputy head of the 2nd Women’s Branch of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp and the political secretary. She is cold and vicious. She was one of the first people in 1999 to use electric batons on Falun Gong practitioners. She stripped women Falun Gong practitioners naked and shocked their breasts and genital area. Many practitioners were disabled and beaten or shocked with electric batons at her hands. She is also one of the first people to spread brainwashing tactics throughout the country. Her address is 8#1-3-2 16th Xijiang Street, Yuhong District, Shenyang City.

It has been confirmed that the 2nd Women's Branch of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp has been dissolved. The Falun Gong practitioners once held there are now in Masanjia Women’s Forced Labor Camp (the former 1st Women’s Branch). Su Jing was transferred to the headquarters of Masanjia Forced Labor Camp in October 2006. She will stay there until her retirement in August 2007. Wang Naimin is still active in the persecution.

    Notes:

    (1) "Body-folding": refers to standing with two legs straight and close, and bending the head down as far as it will go toward the feet, in front of the knees. The fingers point to the ground and the head is upside down. The victim is forced to keep this position for 17 to 18 hours a day except when eating, sleeping and using the toilet.

    (2) "Flying an Airplane": the victim is forced to bend down with arms raised straight up from the back and legs together and upright.

Ms. Jin Lihong from Heilongjiang Province Recounts the Torture that Caused Her Paralysis

My name is Jin Lihong and I am 40 years old. I practice Falun Gong and was employed as a nurse at the Women and Children's Health Care Hospital in Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province.

On the evening of November 11, 2004, Guo Zhi and others from the Taobei Police Station in Qitaihe City arrested me and took me to the Taoshan District Police Sub-Bureau, where I was brutally beaten and also suffered other kinds of torture. As a result, I suffered injuries to my shoulders and lower back, which were diagnosed as sprain of the shoulder joints and lumbar disc protrusion. Then, the police took me to a women's prison for further torture and brainwashing.

    1. Tortured for Seven Days in December 2004

For the entire night of December 2, 2004, the head of Taobei Police Station, Nie Xiaochun, police officers Sun Ming, Guo Zhi and others tortured me with more than ten different torture methods for the entire night. They pulled my hair, put plastic bags over my head to suffocate me, blew cigarette smoke into my nostrils and eyes, and made me kneel on a stick.

They put sticks under my armpits to lift me up by my shoulder joints. When they used sticks to press down on my lower legs, the sticks broke. Then, they put another thick stick at my waist to suspend me in the air, so that my body was draped over the stick, until the stick broke. I hung in the air for a long time, and the pain was excruciating.

Guo Zhi was tired from torturing me, so they put me on the couch with the front of the body down and my face against the wall. They lifted my legs and pushed them towards my head. I suffered excruciating pain in my chest and back. I couldn’t help but scream in pain.

This was not the end of the torture methods. The torture became even more cruel (#21 torture methods /emh/articles/2004/8/31/51910.html) They handcuffed my hands behind my back and then lifted me up by holding the handcuffs, and then swung me around quickly. The pain was unbearable. They did this for a long time, but they were not done with me yet. The four of them grabbed my arms, two person on each arm, and pulled in opposite directions. Nie Xiaochun bent my right wrist backwards almost 180 degrees, and cuffed me again and repeated this torture.

After midnight, Nie Xiaochun and Gao Zhi had me sit on the floor against the wall. While sitting on the chair, Nie stomped on my left leg with his left foot and on my left shoulder with his right foot. He repeatedly kicked my left shoulder joint. Gao Zhi stomped on my right leg. While torturing me, they interrogated me all night long. They continued even when I had heart problems and collapsed on the floor in pain.

They continued to torture me for the next seven days and nights, after which they took me to Qitaihe City No.2 Detention Center.

The day after I arrived there, Warden Yuan Shuqing recorded my injuries. I only remember that I no longer could move my left arm and hand.

Some time after that I was evaluated by different doctors. The diagnoses was sprain of the shoulder joints by the Qitaihe City Women and Children's Health Care Hospital, spinal injury involving two discs by staff at the women's prison, and lumbar disc protrusion at the Provincial Liberation Army 211 Hospital.

As a result of the police torture, in 2006, the doctor said that my sacroiliac joint was injured and that he found protrusion of the lumbar discs. I could no longer walk normally. During the year in the women's prison, I couldn’t take care of myself. I couldn’t wash clothes or take showers and had to rely on others’ help. Even today, I can’t lie on my left side.

    2. Tortured by Police in January 2005

In early January 2005, the police arrested me again. They interrogated me for four days and nights without a break. Cui Xiangdong from the Taoshan Police Sub-Bureau beat me after he got drunk. Because I refused to say "sorry" to him, he struck me in the head viciously. The pain was excruciating and I felt as if I was dying. My right eye became swollen and I was drooling from the corners of the mouth. The director of the Sub-bureau Fu Xunhuan witnessed Cui beating me.

After I returned to the No.2 Detention Center, inmates Wu Xueyuan and Ren Fenghua saw that I was drooling and appeared to be in shock. Inmate Yuan Shuqing asked me to tell them what happened and Wu Xueyuan recorded the information. All three of us put our fingerprints on the paper and gave it to the guards. Around January 12, they took me to the Police Hospital. A CT scan of my head was taken, which revealed cerebral hemorrhage, but the guards did not tell me about this.

I kept drooling after returning to the detention center. I was unstable when standing up and limping when walking. My left hand couldn’t hold a rice bowl. The police took to me the 1st Detention Center at the end of January.

The head of the 1st Detention Center, Liu Haiyun, noticed that my left leg was no longer able to straighten out. He asked me what was the matter, and I told him that I didn't know.

When I lay down on the bed, my head felt as if I had a stone underneath it. For two weeks, I saw everything as shades of black and white. My arms were hurting terribly and I needed help even just washing my face. I could barely move my legs and arms and I moaned every night in pain.

On the morning of March 15, Gao Jianmei began to physically abuse me again. As a result I developed big blisters around my lips and suffered a heart attack.

The injuries from the torture and mistreatment by inmates drove me to go on a hunger strike. Wang Chunlei asked nurses from Qitaihe City Mental Hospital to force-feed me. They brutally inserted a tube down my throat twice.

    3. Abused in the Police Hospital

On March 22, I was admitted to the Police Hospital. The diagnoses included stroke, cardiac ischemia (ST depression at the EKG) and anemia. The head of the Internal Medicine Department Wang Zhiliang told me that these problems were the result of my hunger strike, yet he totally ignored the injuries.

During the first few days at the hospital, my mind was completely clear. However, one night, after I was injected with a small bottle of some drug, I developed a severe headache. I had continuous headaches for the rest of my stay there. I suspect that the drug that they gave me damaged my central nervous system.

On the 10th day in the hospital (around March 31), I suddenly couldn’t turn my head to the left and my heart beat very fast. Physicians Geng Xiaohan and Wang Zhiliang evaluated me. Although they said that there might be serious problems, they refused to do further tests.

One morning, I heard Wang Zhiliang ask if tests were done to rule out spinal problems. Geng came close to Wang and said, "The trial date is within a few days."

I finally realized that the doctors most likely colluded with the court and the guards. They wanted me to be "healthy" enough for the trial.

    4. Illegal Trial in the Hospital

Before the scheduled trial, the court sent people to the hospital to check on my situation. The doctor said that I had no illness and it was all in my mind. I told them that I could not move my head. The judge said that I was in contempt of the court. I showed them how my neck protruded when I tried to turn my head to the left, and none of the people present said anything more. They then decided to hold the trial inside the hospital.

My husband and a legal medical expert carried me to the room set aside for the court proceedings. I was barely conscious and had seizures with even the slightest movements. I could hardly speak during the trial and my eyes were closed most of the time.

    5. Guards and Doctors Denying Medical Treatment

The day after the trial, I repeatedly asked to have cranial scans. Geng Xiaohan signed an order for two tests but told me later that the machine was out of order because of a power outage. My husband went to the CT room and found that the machine was on and running. After my husband argued with the doctors, they told him that the head of the department Wang Zhiliang needed to sign the order. However, he was nowhere to be found.

Finally, a scan was done and showed decreased blood flow at the left front brain artery and decreased basilar artery elasticity. I think that this was the result of beatings by police officer Cui Xiangdong. Doctor Geng refused to further explain the test results.

I then asked to have an MRI, which indicated a possible hemorrhage at the base of the right brain and mild cervical disc 4 to 6 hypertrophy.

They still treated me with cardiac medicine and a blood thinner for stroke. I felt worse and worse. I had allergic reactions and suffered unbearable itching. My blood vessels were being ravaged, and my blood appeared to be a diluted, pinkish color.

During the two months in the hospital, I had to wear handcuffs and foot shackles at all times. My situation was getting worse until a few days before my discharge. They gave me some unknown medication. My headaches became less severe, and I could open my eyes and talk. I was discharged around May 12. I suddenly realized that I was paralyzed and could no longer stand up.

    6. Persecution and Brainwashing at the Women's Prison

On May 18, 2005, I was taken to the women's prison. The court sentenced me to three years and six months, including time for "trying to escape." They charged me with this "crime" after the police from the Taoshan Police Sub-bureau heard me saying that my condition was the result of police torture. The Deputy Secretary of the 610 Office Wang Zhenlin went to the hospital and complained that I had exposed my situation on the Internet.

In the women's prison, I felt dizzy and muddle-headed. I began to practice sitting and walking and developed vaginal bleeding. I passed out while sitting on the bed and again in a different room. I was afraid of talking since it would cause a severe neck spasm, which made my head turn to the left. I had to communicate in writing. In July and August, my feet cramped as soon as they touched the floor.

In October, I leaned to the left side when walking. Warden Diao Yanling asked inmate Ma Ling, who was a doctor, to check my health. Ma found that my blood pressure was 160/110 mhg (I do not have a history of hypertension) and that my right leg was weaker and shorter than the left leg. I was then confined to bed most of the time, lost my hearing and at times was confused about basic things, such as my own age. The left side of my tongue was swollen and black and blue. I could not chew properly and often bit my cheeks or tongue. My left hand couldn’t hold anything and I could only use my right hand for whatever I needed to do.

On October 14, 2005, I had a lumbar CT scan the 211th Army Hospital in Harbin City and was diagnosed with L5 to S1 disc protrusion. For about five months since November 2005, I was semi-comatose and bedridden. I could not see clearly and became colorblind. I still could not read or write for more than a few hours at a time because of the pain in my eyes. I have to cover my eyes with a cold towel most of the time, and my eyes still feel hot and swollen and I still see black spots.

On December 26, 2005, I was diagnosed with a stroke by CT scans at the 211th Army Hospital. On December 27, the 242nd Hospital of Harbin City examined my eyes, but did not tell me the result. When the doctor checked my eye pressure, the right eye felt a sting. When the doctor tested my left eye's visual field, I developed a terrible headache on the left side of my head, my heart beat accelerated, and I collapsed.

The head of the prison clinic Zhao suspected that I had a brain tumor. On January 12, 2006, an MRI was done at the 2nd Hospital of Province Medical College. However, the police would not tell me the results. When I requested to see the result, female police officer Niu Lin grabbed my neck and told me, "You have no right to see it." Niu also kept ignoring my complaint about severe back pain. Because of her mistreatment, I suffered further mental and physical torture. I became nauseous and vomited for three to four days.

After making me suffer all this torture, they made me pay for the eye exam and the MRI, but refused to give me a receipt.

During the year in prison, I could not sit up unaided and kept drooling from the side of my mouth. I could not speak clearly. My brain reacted very slowly when I talked with someone and I had difficulty doing simple math. I forgot how to write simple characters and perform simple tests that I used to do as a nurse. I forgot some basic knowledge that I should have remembered. Even now, I can only sit unaided for about an hour.

Despite my condition, the guards continued to brainwash me in an effort to have me renounce Falun Gong. They ordered inmates Liu Xuexiang and Wei Yanjun to shout and scream at me, spit in my face, and help in making me renounce my belief. They caused severe distress to my already extremely weakened body.

I wrote in June 2006 while still in prison, "My eyes are bleeding every day, my heart is also bleeding every day. Falun Gong is righteous, I did not commit any crime. I strongly request to be released unconditionally. Return justice to me. Return my health and freedom."

Falun Gong Practitioner Chen Jianzhan Forced Into Three Years of Homelessness by Persecution

My name is Chen Jianzhan, I am a 37-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Zhenyuan County, Jingyan City, Gansu Province. I held a government official position and did my best to treat people well. My work brought me four consecutive honors as an outstanding employee and outstanding official. Nevertheless, all this ended because of my Falun Gong practice, for believing in Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance. I had little choice, and decided to live in exile to avoid near certain arrest. I have been homeless for three years. Later on I discovered that the CCP had sentenced me in absentia to seven years in prison and the authorities are still searching for me. I hereby wish to affirm that I refute all their indictments, but I am unable to return home yet. I have lost my job, my family, and have nothing left.

I hereby relate my persecution experiences, so that people can read for themselves the truth of how evil the CCP actually is.

My experience goes back to May 18, 2004, to about 9:00 a.m. I had just concluded a meeting and prepared for an on-site inspection when police officer Yang Hongwei barged into my room without consent, handcuffed me under duress without uttering a word or showing any documentation. He took me to the Wugou Township Police Station where police chief Ma began questioning me regarding my Falun Gong practice, and asked me if I owned a copy machine at home. I ignored his inquiries and replied that I was on duty and needed to go back to work. He retorted that he had received orders from the Zhenyuan County Police Department to not let me go home.

I overheard them talking on the phone that the authorities were on their way to my elderly parents' home. By then it was 2:00 p.m., and instead of permitting me to return home, they transported me to the county police station, against my will. I did not want to cooperate with them. When their vehicle stopped at an intersection and the police were momentarily distracted I got out of the vehicle and ran into a side street. They chased me. I ran to the end of the street where a cliff was blocking further access. While the police were still in pursuit I had no choice but to jump down that cliff, covered with bare branches from jujube bushes [they produce a sweet-sour fruit, often called Chinese dates and are sold dried]. I tumbled down the cliff, landed at the bottom, and had injuries all over my body. I had torn my pants and had jujube splinters and thorns in my hands and face. I could not walk!

Police chief Ma and some street thugs and officer Yang Hongwei nevertheless captured me and returned me to the police station. One of them verbally abused me and incited the others to beat me. I spoke with the force of righteousness! Officer Ma ignored me and handcuffed me; then they transferred me to the county police department.

At 5:00 p.m. they took me to the conference room on the second floor. I had by then become aware that these people had already searched my elderly parents' home and confiscated many personal belongings they hauled away in a rented vehicle. Many of the items were too heavy for them to manage by themselves initially. Included in the list of things they took were specific music VCDs I had purchased for my parents.

Later on I found out that the perpetrators had been to my workplace that same afternoon and ordered them to fire me, but their request was denied! My wife, meanwhile, was unaware of my arrest for five days and had assumed I was on a business trip.

The third day after my unlawful arrest, I was on the third floor when I heard someone shouting himself hoarse on the first floor. I realized that Falun Gong practitioner Xi Haoxi was also detained at that place and was being cruelly tortured. I cried when I heard this practitioner's suffering. When another CCP official interrogated me I asked permission to visit Mr. Xi and succeeded. I witnessed Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xi being incarcerated in a metal cage, surrounded by finger-thick bars. His head was outside the cage, surrounded by several police officers carrying electric batons. He had been incarcerated like this for seven days without food or water. To avoid revealing any information about other practitioners, he had bitten off his tongue; I could still see blood in his mouth. He looked like a skeleton - his cheekbones protruded and his eyes had sunk into their sockets.

Later on I was locked up in a detention center where I was subjected to inhuman treatment - no family visits; memorizing detention center rules; writing weekly reports that the authorities evaluated. If I did not meet their criteria, they would place me in handcuffs or physically abuse me. Bathroom privileges were limited to five minutes. The food consisted of vegetables with scarcely any oil but augmented with lots of hot pepper; many people had digestive upsets, such as constipation and eventually bleeding stools. A mere five minutes' bathroom time was torture in itself.

I was interrogated for ten days straight. On June 1, 2004, I was again brought for questioning. During visiting time my wife and four-year-old daughter looked at me through the visitor's window in the inquest room. Metal bars covered the window. I hid my tears from my daughter and tried to be brave. Before I left the room my daughter attempted to hand me a piece of candy. The police berated her for that in a loud voice. That poor girl was so frightened! She dropped the candy and ran to her mother, who was now crying, too.

Meanwhile, police officer Li Guoming from my hometown village assembled all the villagers at my parents' home and requested "criminal evidence" against me. He removed all my parents' personal belongings, piling them in the yard and searched for "evidence." The village people told him, "This man is a dutiful son! He did nothing wrong!"

The abusers at the detention center tortured me to my last gasp of breath. I could no longer absorb nutrients and had lost much blood. Injections of nutritional supplements sustained my life, but I was in danger of dying. The police compelled my family to pay the detention center much money to treat my deteriorating physical condition. I hovered between life and death for four months. The abusers had run out of strategies to save my life. To prevent me from dying at the center, they consented to have me carried back home and have my family care for me while the persecutors kept me under surveillance.

When the CCP minions discovered I was gone, they went crazy for a couple of months, searching for me everywhere, circulating my photo among the neighbors, among my extended family of relatives and among other Falun Gong practitioners. They came to my parents' home eight times and bothered my family. They even made my mother cook for them! On top of that, they attempted to extort money from my already poor family. Some people have told me that on several occasions, masked intruders had climbed over the wall and searched for me. They even had the audacity to remove part of the roof, acting like common robbers! They destroyed my parents' home!

The county police department persecutors resorted to a different tactic in March 2005. They lied to practitioners in the area, telling them I had been arrested and was incarcerated in a certain prison. Then the perpetrators subjected several Falun Gong practitioners to heavy sentences. One of them, Xi Haoxi, was sentenced to seven years in prison, following the year of detention he had already served. Tian Suohai got four years; Duan Weijun three years. The remainder of the practitioners received sentences of from one year to three years. The court sentenced me in absentia, as already mentioned, to seven years in prison. But first they had to capture me! That is why they did not initially release this information.

The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners in Jidong Prison, Hebei Province

Falun Gong practitioners detained at the Jidong Prison, located in Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province are being brutally beaten by guards of the 5th Detachment. Practitioners who refuse to give up the practice of Falun Gong are tortured by various means such as kicking, slapping, electric baton shock, solitary confinement, meal deprivation, walking for an entire day and standing in place for long periods of time. The Education Section of the prison is in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Section chief Huang Liansheng (male) has beaten many practitioners and used electric batons during the beatings, which sometimes last for several hours.

Mr. Zhang Yunping, a practitioner from Heyin Residential Area in Tangshan City, Hebei Province, was sentenced to eight years in prison and is currently being detained in the 5th Detachment of the prison. Mr. Zhang Yunping has been monitored by inmates around the clock, subjected to brainwashing and was forced to do hard labor. Due to extensive torture, Mr. Zhang Yunping is very weak, and he is suffering from high blood pressure and an irregular heartbeat.

Many practitioners at the prison have been deprived of sleep for several consecutive days. They are forced to stand from early in the morning to late at night, and are allowed breaks only for meals. The guards assigned four inmates to monitor one practitioner. Practitioners are not allowed to talk about Falun Gong at all. In 2004, a group of people who had given up the practice of Falun Gong were invited to the prison from Shenzhou City, Hebei Province to help brainwash practitioners detained at the prison. Because one practitioner from Xingtai City, Hebei Province refused to write the "Three Letters" to renounce Falun Gong, he was tortured with electric baton. Afterwards, he was put in solitary confinement and held there until June of 2005, at which time his life was in danger. However, the guards did not release him, but exchanged him with a practitioner from another prison. The whereabouts of this practitioner are unknown.

Mr. Ge Huaiqiang, PhD and an expert on CT brain examinations, lives on Chaoyang Street in the Yunhe District of Cangzhou City, Hebei Province. Because Mr. Ge is a Falun Gong practitioner, he was sentenced to four years in prison and is currently being detained in the 5th Detachment of the prison. Guards did not allow him to sleep for five days and five nights. They ordered inmates to push his head under water in a sink whenever Mr. Ge closed his eyes. Mr. Ge was forced to lift bricks. Even after he injured his leg, he was still forced to do hard labor and was not allowed to rest. Mr. Ge has repeatedly appealed but there has been no reply.

Detained Falun Gong practitioners have been under severe mental and physical torture for a long time. The vegetables they eat are not properly washed and many of the practitioners now show symptoms of illness. We call upon people and organizations around world to pay close attention to the situation in Jidong Prison.
