Hebei and Dalian police arrested Ms. Wang Bo, her father Wang Xinzhong and mother Liu Shuqin on July 28, 2006 in Dalian city, Hebei province. They were taken back to Shijiazhuang city in Hebei province.
Ms. Wang's relatives went to the local police station and Ms. Wang's company to find out about their whereabouts, but were told nothing. Later a sympathetic person told them that Shijiazhuang police arrested them, and that no one could divulge their whereabouts. As of today, it has been more than 10 days since they were arrested. What kind of scheme have the police hatched? Why do they refuse to divulge the location where the family is being detained?
Ms. Wang's family lives at Tangu District, Shijiazhuang City, under the jurisdiction of Hedong Police Station, Changan District. Since Ms. Wang's mother Ms. Liu Shuqin was released from a forced labor camp, the Hedong police have often harassed the entire family. After they escaped from their hometown, Changan and Hedong police have been searching for them. They wanted to arrest Ms. Liu.
Wang Bo's father, Mr. Wang Xinzhong, is a worker at the Shijiazhuang Railroad mechanical section. Because he continued to practice Falun Gong and has been clarifying the truth, he has been arrested and beaten many times. He also was put in a forced labor camp. The railroad police have been participating in the persecution. After he left his hometown, the police looked for him everywhere. Staff from his previous work place even took Wang Xinzhong's sister to his home to help find him.
The most severe persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in Taiyuan City since July 20, 1999 took place on October 1, 2002. The police launched a campaign that caused grievous damage to Falun Gong practitioners. The number of practitioners arrested and sentenced in that incident was a record in Taiyuan's history, and the scope of the arrests was also the widest. It reached many neighboring cities, counties and districts--more than 100 people were arrested. At least five practitioners were confirmed dead as a result of the persecution. We will now expose some details of this event and its aftermath.
On October 1, 2002, under the code name 101 Case Group, 30 officers from the Wanbolin District Police Department in Taiyuan launched an assault on a truth-clarifying materials center operated by Falun Gong practitioners. This center is relatively large and had many contacts. The action led to the arrest of more than 100 practitioners. Police used a divide-and-conquer tactic to separate these people into different regions and went after them one by one. Their strategy sent 23 people to the Yuci Women's Jail and to the Qixian County Men's Jail. Other practitioners were held in the detention centers until their families could pay huge amounts of money to buy their freedom.
Even as late as 2005, people were still being sent to jail as result of this action.
Police even opened fire during this violent assault to shoot peaceful practitioners. Bullets hit practitioner Cui Zhongjiang and Meng Fengwei's legs. Their cars and other property were confiscated. The practitioners received jail sentences ranging from 4 to 11 years. Some practitioners recently graduated from high school, and some were as old as 68. The arrested practitioners were handcuffed, shackled and then electrically shocked before interrogation. Practitioner Kang Suqing from Taiyuan was shocked by electric batons all over her body and face. Her face was badly disfigured after the torture. Many practitioners were sentenced in court, without even being fully conscious.
In Taiyuan Detention Center, a woman practitioner named Qiu Lihua from Shijiazhuang City in Hebei Province was treated inhumanely. Her hands and feet were chained to a bed the entire time. The police cut a hole in the center of the bed so that she could use this as a "toilet." On the day of the court proceedings, someone carried her in on a stretcher.
All the practitioners suffered hard-to-imagine tortures.
The practitioners detained at the Qixian County Jail faced a first test as soon as they got there. Everyone was first locked in a "strict control" cell. The intention was to exhaust their energy as much as possible. For 24 hours a day, for many days, they were forced to sit straight on a small bench. Every move and every word were monitored. They were often hit by slaps to the face, and were further abused by kicks and punches. The longest bench sitting punishment lasted eight months. After that they faced the second test: brainwashing and forced reform through torture. Two people were assigned to stay at arms' length of each practitioner all the time. The practitioners were forbidden to talk and were deprived of sleep. Their meals were very small and bathroom breaks were restricted to a minimum. They were forced to face a wall so close that their feet, stomach and nose must touch the wall. Any violation of these "rules" would be met with beatings. Some practitioners could not endure the harsh treatment and fell unconscious. Some practitioners chose to go on hunger strikes to protest the inhumane treatment. To retaliate, the prison police and their designated criminal inmates force-fed practitioners. Practitioner Ding Lihong (male) died during a force-feeding.
According to incomplete statistics, as a result of this October 1, 2002 arrest, at least five practitioners were tortured to death. The following is a brief account of one practitioner's death.
Mr. Kang Zhiguo was 55. He was from Changzi County, Changzhi City, Shanxi Province. He was a miner at the Guandi Mine under the Shanxi Coal Group. After July 20, 1999, he was repeatedly arrested and put in a forced labor camp for his determination in safeguarding Falun Gong. In October 2002, he was arrested and illegally sentenced to four years in prison. In the beginning of 2004, when the guards intensified the persecution in the Jinzhong Prison, Mr. Kang and fellow practitioners joined their efforts to resist. These practitioners also paid a heavy price. Kang Zhiguo was badly injured by a felon inmate named Duan Shuai when the criminal was assigned to enforce the facing-the-wall standing torture. Mr. Kang was partially paralyzed (half of his body had no feeling) after the beating. Later the police stopped the beating for fear that he might die. He recovered slowly many days later.
On June 15, 2004, China's Ministry of Justice issued a "100 Day Task to Reform Falun Gong Practitioners." Team political head Zhao viewed this as an opportunity to promote his career and intensified the physical torture in his territory: the 4th Group of the Jinzhong Prison's Third Ward. Under Zhao's direction, felon Hou Senbiao repeatedly kicked Kang Zhiguo in the chest. Then he took Kang Zhiguo to an empty room and hit him all over the body with a stick. Many people in the building could hear Kang's painful cries. Guard Li Weiping, upon hearing the beating, not only failed to stop the violence, he even felt disturbed by the noise and shouted, "Stop yelling! What's the big deal?!"
In mid-May 2005, the prison began another campaign of terror. This time, Kang Zhiguo's health suddenly worsened. The prison did not inform his family. They denied other practitioners' visits, and they did not send him to the hospital. On May 21, 2005, it was reported that Kang Zhiguo passed away. He is survived by his wife and young children.
Ms. Wang Yunjie, a Falun Gong practitioner from Dalian City, Liaoning Province, was taken to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, where she was severely tormented by prison officials. After a while, her breast started to fester and was horrible to look at. She died in mid-July, 2006. What follows are additional details about the torments she suffered before her death.
Wang Yunjie, female, was 40 years old. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. She explained the truth about Falun Gong to people following the start of the persecution on July 20, 1999. On October 8, 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. Dalian City 610 Office personnel and police officers took her back to Dalian City. She was then illegally detained at a drug rehabilitation center in Dalian City and 7,000 yuan were extorted from her. Later, she was transferred to Yaojia Detention Center in Dalian City and illegally imprisoned for one month.
In 2001, a portrait of the then Chinese Communist party (CCP) leader Jiang Zemin, in the Paoya area of Dalian City, was smeared. Police from the Paoyazi Police Station suspected Wang Yunjie of vandalizing the portrait and went to the stall where she was selling clothes with the intention of "illegally arresting" her. However, she escaped from being arrested using the power of her righteous thoughts. On May 14, 2002, police from the Paoyazi Police Station again went to her stall and arrested her without any legal basis. Unauthorized personnel illegally sentenced her to three years in a labor camp and sent her to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp, where she was continuously tortured.
During an intensive brainwashing session held in December 2002, a group of people in charge of "transforming" Falun Gong practitioners locked Ms. Wang in the Zonghe building, where they tormented her for six consecutive days and nights. She had been placed in the 2nd Squadron of the 1st Group. The group leader was Shi Yu. One day in 2003, several guards took her outdoors and beat her maliciously. The leader of the 1st Group of Masanjia Labor Camp Wang Xiaofeng, Shi Yu at the 2nd Group, and Ren Hongzan at the 6th Squadron all participated in the torture.
At Masanjia Labor Camp the guards used all kinds of brutal methods to torture Wang Yunjie in hopes of "transforming" her, which caused her to develop symptoms of end-stage breast cancer. When a doctor determined that she would only be able to survive for another two months, in November 2003, the Masanjia Labor Camp authorities told her family to take her home in order to avoid responsibility for her death.
After Wang Yunjie got home, the Residential Committee and the local police kept harassing her, which caused her health to deteriorate further. She died in mid-July of 2006.
On July 25, 2005, Falun Gong practitioner Tan Xueli was arrested by Wang Kaisheng, the police chief at Qunli Police Station in Pengxi County. Wang led four to five police officers into Mr. Tan's home and sent him to the Hechuan Detention Center. Tan's wife visited him but could only see him through a glass partition. She found that he could not speak, so she wondered if he had been injured. On June 13, 2006, Tan Xueli was transferred to Yongchuan Jail. At around 2 p.m. on June 19, Tan Xueli was tortured to death. Wounds were visible all over his body.
Mr. Tan Xueli, 51 years old, worked on a farm. He lived in Zhenzhonghe community, Qunli Town, Pengxi County, Sichuan Province. He began the practice of Falun Gong in January 1998. Before practicing, he suffered from severe anemia and frequent headaches. When it was particularly noisy, he sometimes fainted on the spot. If the sunshine was strong, he could not go out.. He could hardly do any work. After practicing for several months, all these symptoms went away without treatment.
In May 2000, Tongnan County escalated its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. The Tongnan detention center, drug rehabilitation center and jail imprisoned more than 70 Falun Gong practitioners. On May 13, 2000, 60 to 70 people did the Falun Gong exercises together at Binjiang Park in Tongnan. Tan Xueli participated and asked the authorities to release the more than 70 Falun Gong practitioners.
On that day, Tongnan National Security Group, led by Zhang Liang, arrested all who practiced the Falun Gong exercises in the park. After being illegally detained at Tongnan for several days, Tan Xueli was transferred to the Pengxi Detention Center in Suining and was persecuted there for more than 40 days. Tongnan National Security Group forced Tan's wife (also a Falun Gong practitioner) to hand over 2,000 Yuan before releasing him but gave her a receipt for only 1,200 Yuan. After that point, whenever a politically sensitive date or national holiday came, Qunli town police chief Wang Kaisheng would harass Tan's family or confiscate their property.
On July 25, 2005, at around 9 a.m., Wang Kaisheng led four to five police officers from the Hechuan National Security Team in Sichuan Province to Tan's home. According to witnesses, there were three police cars at the back of Tan's house. Dozens of police officers surrounded Tan's house.
On July 28 at noon, Wang Kaisheng detained Tan's family with the help of seven to eight people from the National Security Teams from Hechuan and Pengxi in Sichuan Province. They confiscated a desktop PC and thoroughly searched the home. After Tan was arrested, his family had no idea where he was taken.
On January 11, 2006, the Hechuan Court held an illegal trial but failed to convict him. Afterwards, Mr. Tan remained in custody. On June 5, 2006, the Hechuan Detention Center informed Tan's wife that she could visit him. The guards told his wife that Tan was sentenced to prison for four years. Tan was continuously abused by the guards and police of Hechuan County National Security Team and the Hechuan Detention Center.
Tan's wife could only talk with him through the glass. However, Tan didn't say a word. Tan's wife asked the police what happened. The police replied that Tan was ill and had failed to respond to medical treatment since September 3, 2005. He could not talk anymore. In tears, Tan's wife asked him what the police had done to him. Tan opened his mouth and used his thumbs and index fingers of both hands to make a circle. His wife asked him what it meant. Tan put down the phone and stretched out one index finger and used another index finger to cut across the other. Tan's wife still could not understand him. Tan put down the phone again and then drew a circle on the glass and used his finger to draw a line down the middle of the circle. Then he took out four to five teeth that were knocked out. He put them on his hand and showed them to his wife. Tan's wife carefully looked again at his opened mouth. The teeth on the left side were all gone. She suspected that the police might have cut his vocal cord, leaving him unable to talk. Later, Tan wrote a letter to his home. There was only one sentence in it: He could not speak after August 2, 2005.
On June 13, 2006, Tan Xueli was taken to Yongchuan Jail for further persecution. On June 19, at around 2 a.m., Yongchuan Jail called and said that Tan Xueli had died and asked his family members to be present within 24 hours, otherwise the corpse would be processed. Tan's wife burst into tears when she heard this news. Their daughter worked out of town and their son was in college. She had no idea what to do.
In the morning, she asked several relatives to rush over to Yongchuan Jail. The relatives asked how such a robust person ended up dead in just a few days. The police replied that Tan had died from an illness. They said that Tan fell into a coma on June 19. He was dead on arrival to the Second Chongqing Hospital. The family member asked if there had been a physical exam before admission. The doctor of the jail replied that section chief Li took the exam and didn't find anything wrong with him.
Nobody was told how or when Tan died. There was no exam record or proof of admission from the hospital. Tan's wife asked to see the corpse. The police replied that the corpse had already been sent to the Yongchuan Crematory. They also stated that it would be fine to see the corpse in person but no photos could be taken. Only the wife and children were allowed to see him, no other relatives. When the other relatives protested, they agreed to allow several more relatives to see the corpse. In order to be able to see the corpse, Tan's relatives agreed not to take any pictures.
The corpse had already been frozen when they saw it. Tan only had a red vest on. When his relative pulled off the vest, the entire chest and legs were black and blue. When the body was turned over, the back of the body was also black and blue. When turned over again, Tan's nose and mouth effused some blood. Seeing bruises all over his body, Tan's wife said that he had not died of illness. She wanted to consult a lawyer. The police said that it was fine to consult a lawyer but only they could do it for her. They did not allow Tan's wife to invite the lawyer. Tan's wife asked the authorities to wait until their son and daughter came back home. The police said they would only give three days starting from the 19th. After three days, even if the children had not returned, they would go ahead and cremate Tan's body.
Under strong pressure from the police, on June 20 at around 5 p.m., Tan's corpse was cremated.
Tan's wife is in a state of despair. Their daughter lost consciousness twice in one day after hearing of her father's death. Their son is still a junior in the college. His tuition costs more than 10,000 Yuan a year.
One evening in May 2004, when publishing truth-clarifying materials, I was arrested by policemen from Jimo Police Station, who were waiting in the street. I was handcuffed for one night in the police station and then sent to the Qingdao Detention Center. Later that month, I was illegally sentenced to a 2-year term of forced labor and sent to Wangcun Women's Forced Labor Camp in Shandong Province.
In Team 1 of the forced labor camp, the guards tried to force me to give up my beliefs. Niu Mengzeng, the captain, and Li Yue, the deputy commander, insulted Master and Falun Gong. Niu Mengzeng asked the "transformed" practitioners to write Master's name on paper and tape it to a stool, then they forced me to sit on it. He planned to make me mentally collapse. Then, they forced me to stand for a long period of time. I was chained to the radiator for 48 hours by guards Niu Mengzeng, Chen Hongxiu, and Zhang Yan, the team leader. From this torture, my feet became terribly swollen.
Guard Zhang Yan said, "Don't you want to practice? I will let you completely enjoy it. You have to enjoy it no matter what." She ordered collaborators (Leng Xuanju from Qingdao, Yan Shuming from Wendeng, and Ma Aiqin) to forcefully put my legs in the full lotus position and bind them with rope. They also twisted and tied my arms behind my back. It felt so painful that I could not help crying. Zhang Yan stuffed my mouth with a dirty rag and sealed my mouth with transparent tape. I was tortured in this way for two days. Then they forced me not to sleep for six days and nights. Yan Shuming beat me whenever my eyes closed. In this way, they did not allow me to sleep for six days straight.
Guards Li Yue, Zhang Ran, and the "transformed" people, Li Xiangrong and Ma Xiaowei, tortured, insulted, and beat me every day and night. Zhang Ran slapped me, hit me with books, and did not allow me to go to the restroom. I was beaten by them countless times. I was detained and tortured for more than six months.
As far as I know, another practitioner being persecuted is Zhang Shumei, from class two. Guards Cheng Hongxiu and Chen Jianmei did not allow her to sleep, and cuffed her for three days and nights. She was then sent to the strictly controlled group for more than half a month. Her legs and feet were horribly swollen.
In team one, Falun Gong practitioner Gao Mingxia was cuffed under strict control for a long period of time and not allowed to sleep. In team four, Yan Jingqiu was cuffed for a long time, bound with rope, and not allowed to sleep.
At around 3:00 p.m. on July 20, 2006, Ms. Tang Jinai, a Falun Gong practitioner from Luogang Township, Baiyun District, Guangzhou City was illegally arrested by police from Luogang and unlawful officials from Tianhe District's 610 Office when she was at work in a factory of Zhu Village, Tianhe District. Currently she is illegally detained at the Tianhe Detention Center in Guangzhou City.
It is said that in order to illegally capture Ms. Tang Jinai, the 610 Office called out a total of a dozen policemen and three police vehicles. They even employed the technology of cell phone tracking and allocation to trace her cell phone's signal directly to her workplace.
The happy family of Ms. Tang Jinai was torn apart. Her husband was illegally sentenced to imprisonment and his whereabouts were unknown to his family members. Ms. Tang herself was forced to become homeless to avoid persecution and she had to work to earn a living. Even worse, she is illegally detained right now. Her two-year-old toddler daughter lost the chance of being taken care of by her parents, and her grandparents have to care for her.
Ms. Tang Jinai and her husband Feng Bingkun are both Falun Gong practitioners. In December 2000, Ms. Tang Jinai went to Beijing to peacefully appeal for justice for Falun Gong. As a result, she was illegally arrested and detained at the Zengcheng Detention Center. At that time, she was over two months pregnant with her first child. Since it's against the regulation of labor camps to detain pregnant women, police officer Luo Weijun, together with other unlawful officials from Zhenlong Township Police Station, forcibly took her to an operating table and forced her to have an abortion. After the abortion, the officials took turns monitoring her every day. During the 2001 Chinese New Year's Eve, these people deceived her family members by saying that they would have Ms. Tang checked in at the hospital. Actually Ms. Tang was sent to the Zengcheng City Drug Rehabilitation Center. Two months later she was illegally sentenced to another eighteen months of imprisonment in a forced labor camp.
On the evening of February 21, 2005, when Mr. Feng Bingkun was distributing truth-clarification material, he was arrested and later illegally sentenced to three and a half years of imprisonment. He was detained at the Sihui Prison in Guangdong Province. After Mr. Feng Bingkun was arrested, Ms. Tang Jinai and her one-year-old daughter were forced to become homeless. Even so, officials at the 610 Office and departments from Zengcheng City offered a reward of fifty to one hundred thousand yuan for the arrest of Ms. Tang Jinai.
My name is Li Guixiang. Because I practice Falun Gong, I was sentenced to three and a half years in the Qinghai Province women's forced labor camp, where I suffered various forms of torture.
In 1999, I had the good fortune to begin the practice of Falun Gong. I began to follow Falun Gong's principles, trying to become a good person and always putting others before myself. At the time, I felt I was truly blessed, and I progressed rapidly on the path of the practice.
Just when I whole-heartedly dedicated myself to be a good person, the persecution began. I could not understand why it was forbidden to be a good person, to practice Falun Gong. At that time I wanted to let the government know the truth about Falun Gong. So I went to the capital to appeal, which led to my family being separated, as I was forced to leave home to avoid further persecution.
In November 2001, while visiting a practitioner in Hainanzhou, I was reported to the authorities. The police arrested me and detained me at a detention center in Hainanzhou without due process. I went on a hunger strike in protest, and tried to clarify the truth to them. Several days later, they called in four or five male inmates with a large tube the thickness of a thumb and chopsticks in hand. They held me in a chair, pinched my nose, pried open my mouth with the chopsticks, and inserted the thick tube into my stomach through my mouth. I felt awful and thought I was going to die. I could not speak. It was truly lamentable that they should persecute me so viciously just for wanting to be a good person.
I do not know how I made it through those several days. In northwestern China, it is bitterly cold in the winter. However, the police did not even give me a blanket for a long time. Nine days later, Hainanzhou Police Department sent me to the Qinghai Province women's forced labor camp, where I was detained for three years.
The full name for the camp is Qinghai Province Women's Drug Rehabilitation Labor Camp. Here they have committed untold crimes against Falun Gong practitioners. Practitioner Tan Yingchun was tortured to death here. Fan Lihong and Zhang Xuefeng were tortured until they became confused.
I did not commit any crime; there was no reason for me to follow the various rules and regulations dreamed up by the vicious police. I often practiced the Falun Gong exercises. Director Xiang Jianmei, director of the office of management Duan Hairong (who is now the assistant director), the instructor of the 1st Group Wang Haijie, the instructor of the 2nd Group Zhang Wenjing, and official Li Hua incited inmates who were drug addicts to watch over me twenty four hours a day. If I practice the exercises, they would shackle me to the bed with four sets of handcuffs. If I recited Falun Gong articles aloud, they would beat me up and tape my mouth shut with a towel and sticky tape so that I could not make any noise. In winter, they put me in solitary confinement without any blankets, and only provided me one small steamed bun and a small cup of water a day. They electric-shocked me, cuffed me to the bed by handcuffing my four limbs and not allowing me to use the toilet.
To protest their despicable acts, I started a hunger strike. Ten days later, the prison doctor Chen Qinghua started to force-feed me through my nose. I resisted. They then force-fed me almost twenty times in succession. Later my stomach could not take any food and I vomited blood. Even then, they deliberately left the tube in my stomach for more than a week. When it was finally pulled out, the tube had turned black.
In order to prevent me from practicing the exercises, they tied one of my hands and one of my feet together for several months. I became increasingly weak. At last, they saw that I might not make it and sent me home. Because Falun Gong is miraculous in healing, I quickly recovered. Falun Dafa gave me a second life.
The worst thing was that the police purposely picked inmates Li Wen, Han Guizhen, Meng Lizhen, Zhang Xiaomei and others to watch over me. They humiliated me so woefully that I could not even describe it in words.
Those were very trying days in the labor camp. I could not bear to think that it had happened. But it did truly took place in broad daylight.
At the end of August 2003, I was once again arrested by the Yunjiakou Security Office for clarifying the truth. I refused to accede to them, and fell down from a height. I was unconscious and unable to move. Once I regained consciousness, they returned me to the labor camp. I once again went on hunger strike. Ten days later, they started force-feeding me. Two months later, prison doctor Chen Qinghua dislocated my lower jaw to force-feed me. The barbarity was impossible for people to stomach.
In 2005, the police plotted a devious scheme. They let me out of the labor camp with my injuries. They secretly assigned two people to follow me, but their scheme failed, so they put me in the Chengdong Mingzu senior home. Later I escaped but was unable to return home, since I was sure to be arrested there.
My father started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. During the persecution by the Chinese Communist Party, he personally experienced and witnessed six family members being illegally detained 11 times, one family member being illegally sent to a forced labor camp, and two family members being forced to leave home. He was threatened, deceived and had money extorted from him. He suffered tremendously both physically and emotionally. He was over 80 years old and had gotten rid of many diseases because of practicing Falun Gong. However, as a result of all that he went through in the persecution, he suffered angina pectoris and passed away.
Between 1996 and April 1999, 12 people in our family started practicing Falun Gong, one after another. Before, my father had suffered a stroke, but he recovered and became very healthy after he started practicing Falun Gong. My mother, who was almost 80 years old, looked like someone in her 50s. Her diseases, such as emphysema, heart disease, and tracheitis disappeared. My sisters became more even tempered. My sister-in-law's temperament became much better, and she seemed like a new person. My eldest brother was over 50 years old. He had been bothered by arthritis ever since he was a kid. Every year in October, he has to start putting on his winter pants. On August 1, 1997, he started practicing Falun Gong. Two months later, all of his diseases, including arthritis, heart problems, lower back pain, gastritis, and neurasthenia, disappeared. He was so thrilled to be healthy again. The whole family was very happy, which encouraged my nephews to start practicing Falun Gong as well. Falun Gong brought our family happiness and harmony.
The inhuman persecution against Falun Gong started in 1999. In order to help more people know Falun Gong, my family went out to tell people: "Falun Dafa is good! 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance' is good!"
In October 1999, my oldest brother was detained illegally for practicing Falun Gong. In March 2000, my oldest brother and his wife, my second oldest brother, his wife, and my nephew were illegally detained due to going to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. In October 2001, my oldest brother was illegally detained while he was distributing truth-clarification materials. After my second oldest brother and his wife went to Beijing again to appeal, they had to leave their home to avoid further persecution. While my second oldest brother and his wife were gone, my 80-year-old father and mother supported our broken family. My father told his two grandsons while in tears, "Your father and mother have not done anything wrong by being good people and following the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. It is bad people who have broken up our family." The evil frequently harassed the family, and sometimes they even broken into our home in the middle of the night. My father and mother were scared and suffered insomnia. They became weaker and thinner. The two children cried for their parents. The whole family was suffering.
My father worried about his son, who was beaten and suffered broken ribs in the forced labor camp. He worried about his daughter-in-law and his grandson, who were illegally detained. The authorities hired people to listen in and watch the family all the time. My father suffered tremendously.
While my oldest brother was illegally detained in the forced labor camp, the police ransacked his home and confiscated items worth over 2,000 yuan. The police fined him and extorted 15,000 yuan from him. When my second sister was illegally detained, they extorted 12,000 yuan from him. My second brother and his wife were extorted out of 5000 yuan. My father witnessed all of these shocking facts. He suffered greatly emotionally.
The night my father passed away, we held a funeral for him, and below is part of the memorial service speech that we wrote for him:
Dear Father: Today, we memorialize you with the highest human ceremony. At this time, you must be very happy to look at the human world from other dimensions because we, "with no discontentment or hatred, take hardship as joy." We "quietly observe the people of the world deluded by illusions." You completed your life in the human world successfully.
During the days of persecution, you worried about your children and endured the burden for the family.
Throughout your life, you were diligent and candid. You were always truthful, trying to be a better person and walking on the practicing path.
In your life, you never took advantage of others. You taught your children not to do bad things to lose virtue. You were a kind-hearted person, and everybody respected you.
While being persecuted, you endured. But your tolerance was not unlimited, and you cried when it was beyond your endurance.
Dear Father, you can set your heart at rest! We will cherish this once in a thousand millennia opportunity. We will practice diligently until we reach Consummation.
Family and friends knelt down in front of his spirit tablet. We pressed our hands together in the heshi gesture and said goodbye to Father.
On the seventh night after my father passed away, we put out the incense burner table and the offerings. A bundle of incense and two candles were lit. We put a sheet of paper with a picture of a big lotus flower on the floor. A little ladder made of straw stood on the lotus flower, and a drawing of auspicious clouds was put on the ladder. When we tried to light up the paper on the floor, the spark surprisingly jumped up onto the drawing with the clouds. All of a sudden, the auspicious clouds lit up, became ashes, and rose up. People were shocked by what they saw. Right after that, the ashes of the incense in the incense burner formed the shape of a lotus flower, with some of the incense ash as petals. The petals formed a layer of the lotus flower. It was amazing and beautiful. My sister shouted suddenly: "Look!" In the sky, there was a spectacular scene. Seven lines of clouds were going in a parallel fashion towards the southwest, like a ladder. Right above us, there was a huge circle formed by the clouds. It looked like a huge Law Wheel. There weren't too many clouds in the circle, and it seemed empty. Perhaps because father didn't clarify the truth much before he passed away, his world was relatively empty. The scene of the blue sky with the white clouds was so beautiful.
Father persisted in practicing Falun Gong even when the persecution was very severe, because he had benefited from Falun Gong and he knew deep in his heart that Falun Dafa is good. He always believed in the principle that good deeds will be rewarded with good, while evildoings will meet with due karmic retribution.
At around 2:00 p.m. on August 2, 2006,
seven Falun Gong
practitioners from Dalian City, including Liu Qingtao, Qu Jun, Mr. Yu,
and Yu
Xiaoli were illegally
arrested by Wanli Police Precinct officers on
a bridge near Wanli Street in the Development Area . The practitioners
were
riding in a van at the time. A man in his 50s stopped their van, held
up a copy
of the "Nine Commentaries", and shouted "It's yours!"
The police took the van and everyone in it, including a 22-year-old
girl, a
sales major and non-practitioner who was from out of town.
When the family members of the arrested practitioners arrived at Wanli Police Precinct to demand their loved ones' return, precinct director Wang Peizhong and some other officers turned them away. Wang Peizhong and officer Sun Junzhe shoved Qu Jun's aged father out of the police station. As witnessed by family members, Mr. Yu, with a blood-stained bandage on his forehead and his clothes covered with dirt, and a female practitioner were tortured while being interrogated by the police. A policeman intimidated a female practitioner, saying, "We have ways to deal with you people." Five policemen took Ms. Yu Xiaoli to her company and home, snatching her computer and some materials. Liu Qingtao's home was searched by police, too.
At around 4:30 p.m. on August 3, policeman Li Ju from Wanli Police Precinct, Liu from the police station, Tang Xingwen from Zhongchang Police Precinct of the Jinzhou District, and Director Wang (female) of Zhongchang Lane went to search Liu Qingtao's home without a warrant. They took two Falun Gong books, one set of Master Li's pictures, one set of smaller pictures used to spread the Fa, one copy of the judgment statement for Liu Qingtao's trial, a few copies of "Minghui Weekly," and one 50-yuan note with a statement advocating quitting the Communist Party written on it. Police chief of Wanli Precinct Yu Huajun told Liu Qingtao's family to retrieve their possessions at the precinct. But when Liu's family arrived at the precinct the next day, they were not allowed to take anything, including the van.
Some of these practitioners in police custody have been subjected to various forms of persecution since the Chinese Communist regime started suppressing Falun Gong in 1999. Liu Qingtao served five years in prison, enduring all kinds of torture and leaving his wife, his son, and his aged mother without adequate care. Yu Xiaoli was held more than once at the infamous Masanjia Correction Facility. Qu Jun jumped from a tall building in order to escape arrest and became permanently disabled. Neither torture nor suffering has changed their faith. They firmly believe that they are not wrong when they try to be good people by observing the principle of "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance."
Four female practitioners were taken to Yaojia Detention Facility in Dalian City on the afternoon of August 3. Liu Qingtao is being held in the Development Area Detention Center. The whereabouts of Mr. Yu are not known. They started a hunger strike to protest the persecution when they were arrested.
Policemen from Wanli Precinct in the Development Area have persecuted these kind people on other occasions. Last March, they arrested two practitioners after watching and following them, and sent them to a detention center the same night, but the center refused to take them. The following day they went to search the practitioners' homes and later released them only after repeated requests from family members and after charging them each 5,000 yuan as bail. The police continue to constantly harass these people.
Mr. Yang Pinggang, his wife Mrs. Chang Lijun, and their son Yang Kemeng live in Tai'an City, Shandong Province. Mr. Yang Pinggang was once the Mayor of Shengzhuang Town, Tai'an Suburb and the Bureau Chief of the Suburb Broadcast Bureau. Chang Lijun was a staff member of the suburb birth control committee. Their son, Yang Kemeng, attended the Industrial University of Harbin City. The family of three had a comfortable, happy life.
In 1995, due to long-term excessive work loads and anxiety, Mr. Yang Pinggang became ill and was confined to bed. The medicine had little effect in curing his illness. A close colleague gave him the book, China Falun Gong. The three words "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance" greatly affected him. If everyone could be truthful, compassionate, and tolerant, is there any conflict in the world that cannot be solved peacefully? Yang Pinggang was immediately intrigued by the simple words and the profound meanings in the book. A warm energy poured in from the top of his head and he instantly felt clear-minded, peaceful, and calm. All the previously unanswerable questions in his life were suddenly answered. He truly felt relieved and his body was light. After practicing the five exercises, his illnesses disappeared in a very short period of time.
Yang Pinggang's wife Chang Lijun was amazed by her husband's speedy recovery. She was also very fortunate to have read China Falun Gong, and was drawn by the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." Ever since then, they helped each other, discussed how to become good people, and found the answers to many hard-to-solve issues and problems in their lives. They became more caring and less critical toward their son. In their spare time, they discussed life with him and assisted him in his study of Falun Gong. Thus, his cultivation improved greatly. The Yang family became very loving and happy, and they truly experienced the blessings that Falun Gong brought to them.
However, in July 1999, the evil Communist regime led by Jiang Zemin used its power to commit heinous crimes against Falun Gong practitioners. They arrested innocent practitioners and destroyed Falun Gong books. Practitioners were forced to write "repentance letters" and copy fabricated writings defaming Falun Gong. Many practitioners refused to lie. They were thus thrown into jail and labor camps.
Even though Yang Pinggang knew that if he did not speak out, he and his family would be spared the persecution, he and his wife decided to go to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. They wanted to let the country know the truth about Falun Gong. As a result, the couple was arrested and detained.
Because they insisted on clarifying the truth and practicing Falun Gong, they were arrested many times by the local police, and were sent to brainwashing centers, an incarceration facility, and a labor camp to be persecuted. Their household belongings were stolen from them during their imprisonment. They were separately sent to Ji'nan Women's prison for two years and Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in Zibo for three years. All these hardships, however, did not change their belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance."
On September 6, 2005, public security sub-bureau police officers from Taishan District, Jian Min and Cui Yan, suddenly broke into Yang Pinggang's home. They arrested the couple, ransacked their home, and confiscated Falun Gong books, computers, and belongings. They were detained at a prison in Tai'an City. They both went on hunger strikes to resist the persecution and clarified the truth about Falun Gong to the police.
During Yang Pinggang's detention at the prison in Tai'an City, he was severely tortured for three days and three nights by the Taishan District police team, consisting of Zhu Zonghai, Wu Xiushui, Yang Rufa, Wang, Guo, Xu Jialou, and Xu from the local police station. The police used all kinds of brutal methods to torture him. They kicked him in the face, stepped on his neck, handcuffed him and hung him from a door frame. The handcuffs cut so deeply into Yang Pinggang's wrists that his hands are still numb. They used a rope to pull on his foot shackles, lacerating and bruising his ankles in the process. They brutally pinched his nipples with their hands. Several scoundrels forced strong alcohol down his throat until he fainted. The police also fabricated false charges against him.
In February 2006 at the Taishan District court, Yang Pinggang spoke righteously and sternly, exposing the persecution of Falun Gong by Jiang Zemin's group, in particular their criminal acts of torturing practitioners. He clarified the truth about the persecution to those who attended the court hearing and negated the unreasonable trial. After being persecuted for five months, he was sentenced to six years under false charges and was not allowed to appeal. He is still imprisoned at the #5 prison area of Yanbei Prison in Tai'an City.
During the persecution of Yang Pinggang, the police from the Taishan District Police Station exhausted all kinds of methods to force Chang Lijun to "renounce" Falun Gong. Failing to achieve their goal, they sent Chang to the Ji'nan Women's Prison for three years, and she was once again inhumanely tortured by the police. Family members have not been allowed to visit her, thus no one knows whether she is dead or alive.
Their son, Yang Kemeng, is now a junior at the Harbin Industrial
University's
Weihai Campus. Because of his belief, he was also arrested on campus on
August
28, 2005, and was detained at the Weihai Prison. Despite all the
threats and
inducements, the police were unable to force him to renounce his
beliefs.
Therefore, he was sent to Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in Zibo to be
persecuted for
three years.
On July 5, 2006, the family members of Falun Gong practitioner Meng Lijun went to Shandong Province Women's Prison to visit her once again. When Meng Lijun came out with the guards, her family members found that her body looked puffy and she seemed a little bit dull-witted.
After conversing with her, her family members discovered that she could not remember things that had happened to her previously, and she even forgot what she said minutes after saying it.
But she did tell her family members clearly: "They put harmful medicine in my food bowl."
During the one-hour visiting period, she and her family members cried most of the time, and did not talk very much.
When she was sent to prison she was very weak and was carried into the cell. At the beginning, she could not sleep at all.
(Note: Meng Lijun home phone number is 86-531-83803641. Her husband was repeatedly brainwashed by the Communist party and developed a wrong understanding of Falun Gong as a result, therefore he did not try to rescue her.)
Note: The following is a shortened version of a longer and more detailed article that appeared on the Minghui.org website (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net).
Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Qingson worked for an agriculture company in Qian'an City, Hebei Province, and his wife Zhou Xiuxia worked in a meat factory there. On January 20, 2000, Mr. Li pointed out in a work unit meeting where people were reading articles slandering Falun Gong, that everything written in the articles about Falun Gong was fabrications and lies. Because of this he was detained for fifteen days and fined three thousand yuan. His wife was forced to pay a fine of one thousand yuan.
On the morning of July 14, 2001, police officers came to search Mr. Li's house and illegally arrested Mr. Li and his wife, taking them to the Qian'an Detention Center. Mr. Li was held there for six months and then sent to Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City for one year. His wife was imprisoned in Qian'an Detention Center for almost one year before she was released.
On the afternoon of September 1, 2003, Mr. and Mrs. Li and their five-year-old daughter were all illegally arrested. The next day, family members retrieved the child from police custody. The couple was kept in the detention center for one month and then transferred to a brainwashing center. After enduring two weeks of abuse in the brainwashing center, one of Mr. Li's eyes began bleeding from some unknown retinal problem. He was released upon his family's strong demands. His wife, Zhou Xiuxia was kept in this brainwashing center for another fourteen months.
On the afternoon of August 28, 2004, police officers illegally arrested Mr. Li at his home and sentenced him to two years in Hehuakeng Forced labor Camp in Tangshan City.
On October 25, 2005, when Mr. Li's family went to visit him in the forced labor camp, his family saw a wound on his temple, which was swollen and oozing pus. The family learned that the wound was the result of a brutal beating by the criminals in Li's cell, instigated by the vicious prison guards.
In the nine months since November 2005, when Mr. Li was transferred to Handan Forced Labor Camp, he has not been allowed even once to have family visits or to write or call his family. His family is very worried about his status.
On the morning of June 1, 2006, Zhou Xiuxia was illegally arrested
while
handing out truth-clarifying
materials, and taken to Qian'an
Detention Center. After protesting by hunger strike for thirteen days,
she was
sentenced to Kaiping Forced Labor Camp in Tangshan City for two years.
