There are six confinement areas in the Nanjing Women's Prison, and each area detains Falun Gong practitioners. From October 2005, the 610 Offices all over the Jiangsu Province located their sub-office in the Nanjing Women's Prison to launch a new round of "transformation" of Falun Gong practitioners.
Huang Yanli, less than forty years old, was detained in the No. 5 prison area. Her erythema, which was cured through the practice of Falun Gong, relapsed in the prison. However, the prison authorities did not take her to see a doctor or release her on medical parole, but continued to lock her up until she was near death. Ms. Huang passed away several days after being released from prison.
Xue Shuyu, in her thirties, was an engineer in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province. Zhang Yuhua, 40, was a college teacher in a Foreign Language Department. Both of them were still detained in Nanjing Women's Prison, and were isolated for repeated persecution and brainwashing. Most recently, they were individually locked up in a small building for almost half a year.
Song Weijuan, a Nanjing Falun Gong practitioner, has been sentenced to ten and a half years of imprisonment. Due to the long period of forced labor and continuous persecution, she was very weak, but had no chance to take a rest and receive treatment. Presently, she is in critical condition.
Wu Di, a Falun Gong practitioner in Suining, Suizhou City, in her thirties, who was detained in the 4th Ward, has now been persecuted to a state of mental disorder.
There are several vicious guards: Meng Tianzhu, Huang Fengying, Qian Zhi, etc., who are responsible for carrying out the brutal persecution.
Ms. Zhang Fuxiang, a Falun Gong practitioner from Laiwu City, Shandong Province, is a farmer. She was illegally imprisoned in the Shandong Province First Women's Forced Labor Camp in Jinan City for three years and 105 days. She was brutally tortured there and was in critical condition several times. She successfully left the labor camp on January 6, 2006. The following is an account of the torture that she suffered during those three years.
Police officers from the Laiwu City Zhangjiawa Town Police Station arrested Ms. Zhang Fuxiang on the street on the morning of September 25, 2002. At the police station, she was handcuffed to a radiator. Zheng Bo from the Political Security Section of Laicheng District Police Department, Laiwu City wanted to search her, but she warned him not to do so. Zheng Bo then picked her up by her hair and threw her back down. A big tuft of her hair was torn out, and her nose was bleeding. Zheng Bo then asked a policewoman to take away the 438 Yuan that she had with her. They sent her to Laiwu City Detention Center later that day.
Ms. Zhang Fuxiang began a hunger striker to protest her illegal arrest and imprisonment at the detention center. Three days after beginning her hunger strike, more than ten policemen came to torture her. They put handcuffs her on and shackled her feet. They held her nose and used a tool made of bamboo to pry her mouth open, and then force-fed her. They force-fed her once a day. Without going through any legal process, Ms. Fuxiang was sentenced to three years of forced labor. She was sent to the Shandong Province First Women's Forced Labor Camp in Jinan City on October 9, 2002. Her father could not withstand hearing about this, and passed away shortly after.
The guard are given incentives such as promotions and raises to reach a higher "transformation rate", and are punished when they don't meet their goals. The guards thus tortured Falun Gong practitioners cruelly, trying to force them to "transform." Practitioners at the Shandong Province First Women's Forced Labor Camp were not allowed to call, write to, or see their family members. If they refused to be "transformed," the guards did not allow them to sleep and forced them to perform extensive hard labor. Ms. Fuxiang and other Falun Gong practitioners who refused to bow to the evil were tortured severely for more than a year. The torture was brought to an even more brutal level after that.
A guard cuffed a Falun Gong practitioner to the radiator in a room and taped her mouth shut for no reason in the afternoon of February 3, 2004. Falun Gong practitioners started a strike to protest this persecution. Starting on February 16, the guards escalated the physical abuse against the practitioners. They gathered the most vicious guards to the fifth squadron, including Wang Shuzhen and Wang Yueyao. They designed a six-inch-high stool and forced Falun Gong practitioners to sit on it with both hands at their knees. Practitioners were forced to sit on the stool from 6 in the morning till 10 at night. They were also forced to eat, drink, and even urinate and defect in one small room. The windows and door were closed all the time. There was no fresh air or fan when the temperature was high. Inmates were ordered by the guards to watch the practitioners in the room all the time. One inmate suffered heat stroke in the room. Under such a bad environment, the Falun Gong practitioners were forced to listen to and watch audio or video tapes that slandered Mr. Li Hongzhi and Falun Gong. They endured both physical and mental torture.
Wang Shuzhen further encouraged inmates to come up with different ways to torture Falun Gong practitioners. Whoever came up with the most brutal methods would have their term shortened. The inmates viciously beat practitioners so they that could leave the labor camp early. Some practitioners had blue and purple marks all over their bodies. Some were forced to stand from early morning to 10 at night for ten days in a row. This caused their legs to swell grotesquely. But Falun Gong practitioners still refused to be "transformed." Wang Shuzhen came up with another vicious idea. Practitioners were only given one meal a day and forced to perform heavy labor. This torture lasted for a week. Then practitioners were allowed to buy some instant noodles to eat for two meals. But right after that, they were not allowed to eat again. Section Chief Yang said, "The meal issue will only be resolved if you all do what we tell you to do." Several days later, practitioners were allowed to eat again, but not allowed to use the bathroom. One practitioner soiled her pants. The air of the room was so filthy that the guards did not want to go in. They gave practitioners fifteen minutes to wash their bodies and clothes. But they did not allow practitioners to dry their clothes. Practitioners protested this unreasonable restriction. Some practitioners just wore the wet clothes. Wang Shuzhen ordered inmates to throw all other clothes that practitioners had not put on yet into a dumpster. He then scolded a practitioner whose term at the Forced Labor Camp had ended, blaming her for not taking care of her sick father. That practitioner replied, "I committed no crime at all, so why did you imprison me here? Wasn't it because you wouldn't let me go home that I couldn't take care of my father?" Wang Shuzhen then dragged her to a cell and beat her.
Guards played videotapes that slandered Teacher and Falun Gong in December 2004. They also asked an inmate named Dai Guihua from Qingdao to pretend to be a "transformed" Falun Gong practitioner to slander Teacher and Falun Gong. That inmate was given a five-day reduction of her term at the forced labor camp. Guards forced practitioners to sit on little stools to watch videotapes. They didn't allow practitioners to sleep. They arranged inmates in shifts to watch practitioners and ordered them to use flyswatters to hit practitioners who fell asleep. They broke several flyswatters in the process. Practitioners became so exhausted that they fell to the ground. Wang Shuzhen ordered inmates to record the number of times that they had fallen, and then punished practitioners by forcing then to stand for an hour for each time they fell. Some practitioners fell nine times at night and were forced to stand for nine hours the next day. One practitioner was so exhausted that when she sat on the toilet, she promptly fell off. One practitioner had diarrhea and went to the bathroom more than ten times. She was extremely thirsty, so she asked the on-duty guard, Yinghua, for water, but her request was coldly rejected. Another practitioner almost fainted after the long physical and mental abuse. This cruel torture lasted for ten days, and then practitioners were allowed to sleep. But guards then forced practitioners to drill even though they were extremely weak. Practitioners still refused to yield. Wang Liping used her high heels to stomp on practitioners until the heels fell off. Then she punished practitioners by forcing them to stand for ten days.
On August 23, Wang Liping told Ms. Zhang Fuxiang to go to the reception room. Three guards in plainclothes were in the room waiting to torture her. One guard named Ma Wenyan tried to force her to admit that she was guilty of a crime. She stood firm in her belief in Teacher and Falun Gong and refused. Then they forced her to stand and did not allow her to eat, sleep or even go to the bathroom. When she could not hold it any more and urinated in her pants, a guard named Xu threw her pants into a dumpster. The guards tortured her in shifts. The evening shift guard, Zhang Hong asked her, "Do you believe in your Teacher, or our squadron leader?" Firmly she answered, "I believe in my Teacher." Zhang Hong said, "OK, you believe in your Teacher? I am going to see how strong your body is. Ask your Teacher to help you." She cuffed her to the radiator and tied her with strips of cloth for a long time, making her legs swell up and causing severe pain in her knees. Guards also put Falun Gong books under her feet.
Four days later, she was still not allowed to go to the bathroom. She urinated in her pants. Ma Yan threw her two big towels, bed sheets, underwear and pants into a dumpster, then threatened her saying, "If you pee in your pants again I will throw your quilts out." Ms. Fuxiang was forced to watch videotapes that slandered Falun Gong everyday. On the morning of July 20, Xu said, "Every single practitioner that came to this room has been 'transformed.' I will not let you be the exception. Criminals who are much stronger than you can't stand the torture for even half an hour. They will say whatever we want them to say. I will see how long you can hold out." She forced her to sit on the ground, tying her arms to the back of a metal chair. She claimed, "I can decide what to do to someone like you. I don't need approval." On July 22, they untied her once to allow her to go to the bathroom. She was tied up like that for total of fifteen days.
Wang Yueyao was one of primary evildoers at the forced labor camp. She viciously persecuted Falun Gong practitioners.
Using the excuse that Ms. Fuxiang had some stomach problems, Wang Yueyao, Li Yinghua and Ma Wenyan force-fed her with some 'medicine' three times a day. Ma Wenyan used soup made from vegetables that had gone bad and leftover tea leaves from their teacups to force-feed her. Ms. Fuxiang resisted the torture. They then tied her arms to the metal chair and put earphones on her head to force her to listen to recordings that slandered Mr. Li Hongzhi and Falun Gong. The recording kept insulting Mr. Li while shouting his name, along with loud noises of smashing metal. The guards repeatedly tortured her for three days by forcing her to wear the earphones, tying her arms back, and forcing her to squat. They wanted to keep her awake so that she would yield. Wang Yueyao claimed, "This method has been very effective across the country. Some people were 'transformed' after three days. The really firm people were 'transformed' after seven days." They forced her to sit in urine and did not allow her legs to move. Wang Yueyao often stepped on her legs. Wang said, "I do this because I enjoy it. I have some shoes whose heels are as thin as a finger. I will wear them tomorrow." Then she threw Teacher's picture into the urine.
These guards came to kick her whenever they had some time, and used Falun Gong books to smash her head when she fell asleep. When the urine under her dried, the guards dragged her to another wet spot. Her buttocks started to fester. She asked for toilet paper when she had her period. Wang Yueyao said, "We will only give you toilet paper after you write the 'transformation' statement." She refused and never asked for it again. Wang Yueyao said, "If your vagina is festering, I will bring antibacterial medicine for you because I have a humanitarian spirit." Wang then smashed Falun Gong books onto her nose, making her mouth and nose fill with blood. Wang arrogantly said, "Aren't you stubborn? There is nothing that I can't get if I really want it. Anyone who enters this room cannot come out without being 'transformed.'" She also boasted, "My father is a martial arts teacher in Shandong Province. My brother is a policeman. My mother is an instructor of a Qigong exercise approved by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). If I make you disabled, the hospital will not say anything. Even if I kill you, you will be counted as one more case on top of the 1700 suicide cases for Falun Gong. I will not be punished. The worst is that I will lose my job as a guard." On September 14, Wang said, "Let me see how your heart will be without food and water for three days." While charging an electric baton, she said, "If the electric baton does not work for you, I will bring in a bed spring, remove all your clothes and tape your body to the springs. This method can 'transform' thirty stubborn people like you in one month."
Ms. Fuxiang was tortured almost to death on August 4. When she was untied, she couldn't even crawl. If not for her firm belief in Teacher and Falun Gong, she would not have been able to endure all these horrible things. Doctors dragged her in for an electrocardiogram and found that her heart was injured. Still the guards continued to brutally beat her. After this, they forced her to stand facing a wall. Then Wang Yueyao sat on a bed, using her feet she stepped on Fuxiang's back, making her unable to squat. She was released from the Strictly Watched Room on September 18. For five months from March 18 to September 18, more than ten Falun Gong practitioners were tortured in this room. She was still forced to do hard labor such as kneeling down to clean floors for two to three hours every day. Guards also took her to the so-called "psychological consultation room," another way to torture Falun Gong practitioners. They forced her to do extensive hard labor, and then tied her to a bed after 10 p.m. She would wake up in great pain several times during the night.
Having been tortured for seven days there, Ms. Fuxiang lost feeling in three fingers on her right hand. Her arms were nearly disabled. She could not raised them up or stretch them out. The tissue on her legs that had been injured by the guards repeatedly stepping on them was slowly dying, and her feet became infected. When she went back to her group, she was still forced to clean the guards' bathrooms, clean the glass door and windows, and bring hot water in thermos bottles for everyone in her squadron. It was very difficult for her to carry even a single thermos bottle full of water, but she was forced to do that for her whole group. She was also forced to fetch all three meals for her squadron. When she finished her three-year term in the forced labor camp, the labor camp authorities extended her sentence for several more months.
The guards used a variety of torture methods against Ms. Zhang Fuxiang, but they were not able to "transform" her.
Ms. Liu Shuzhen, a 50-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Harbin City, began cultivating Falun Gong in early 1996. After she began practicing, her heart problems and asthma were completely healed. Since then, she has persevered in cultivating in Falun Gong. In December 2000, Ms. Liu went to Beijing to appeal for the justice for the Fa but was instead imprisoned for more than two months. On October 14, 2004, she was reported to the authorities while clarifying the truth at a supermarket and was arrested by policemen from the Anbu Police Station. She was illegally sentenced to three years of re-education through labor and imprisoned in the Seventh Team of the Wanjia Labor Camp.
On July 15, 2005, after Liu Shuzhen refused to recite prison rules that defame Falun Gong, the on-duty policemen Li Changjie brought her to an isolated room and gave her six slaps on her face while shouting vulgarities at her.
On July 28, Liu Shuzhen was once again brought into an isolated room and abused by policemen Zhao Yuqing. Because Liu Shuzhen declared that her Guarantee Statement was nullified, Zhao Yuqing gave her three slaps and tied up her hands with a rope. He then pulled the rope quickly as he walked and suddenly released the rope to make Ms. Liu fall hard onto the floor. Liu Shuzhen was repeatedly subjected to this form of physical abuse.
On August 8, for the same reason, Ms. Liu was called out into the open after being verbally abused by policeman Jia Cuiyan. She was handed over to the team leader Yao Fuchang and beaten in an isolated room. Her back and legs were shocked were electric batons in several areas. Many parts of her body turned purple with wounds and she was slapped in the face.
In the morning of August 20, for refusing to recite the prison rules, policewoman Yu Fangli started beating her up brutally. Liu Shuzhen was slapped 7 to 8 times and forced to squat on a single piece of brick.
Thereafter, Liu Shuzhen was tied up on a bed with her hands bound behind her back and left in a squatting position for seven days and seven nights. She became disabled as a result. A year has passed, and even today she still cannot walk properly and sways when she walks.
Because she remains firm in her belief in Falun Gong, even though Liu Shuzhen's husband is a mental patient and has been left home unattended, the Wanjia Labor Camp and the 610 Office still refuse to release her. In the less than one year of time that she has been imprisoned, her husband has thrown away their family bed, as well as clothes and other domestic items. Even the toilet bowl has been smashed. Only a single metal pole remains sticking out from the bathroom floor.
Liu Shuzhen's sister has serious heart disease and would visit her in the labor camp once in a while (Ms. Liu's brother-in-law died earlier this year from illness on the second day of the Chinese New Year). Even though Liu Shuzhen's neighbors, colleagues, and members of the community resident council have asked the labor camp to release her on several occasions, but to no avail.
Recently, when Liu Shuzhen's family members saw her, she had to be carried by prison staff and could not use her own hands to hold the phone. Someone else had to hold the phone for her, and only a few sentences could be exchanged. Currently, Ms. Liu's family is trying to appeal to get her out of the prison.
Mr. Wang Jianguo, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jilin City, died as a result of persecution after a 40-day incarceration in a Jilin city detention center, just because he practiced Falun Gong to be a good person. On Monday, May 15, 2006, Mr. Wang's grandmother went to the Jilin City train station and held his picture and a poster with a large character for "Injustice." She tearfully told passersby and passengers about this injustice.
Mr. Wang's grandmother sat on a stone platform in front of the waiting room. Tearfully, she complained about the unjust circumstances surrounding her grandson's death. She took out documents that chronicled how Wang Jianguo was persecuted and abused till he died in the Jilin City Detention Center. Because there were many people at the train station, a crowd of people soon surrounded her. People who wanted to know the facts came to ask for the materials and passed them around to read. A girl came and asked a woman who was reading the documents, "What is the nature of the injustice? Was he really treated unfairly?" The woman replied, "It is indeed unjust. Her grandson practiced Falun Gong and was arrested and locked up in the detention center. Forty days later he was dead." The kind- hearted girl came over to the grandmother and said, "Grandmother, don't cry any more. It will hurt your health and won't solve the problem."
A 60- to 70-year-old man said, "This girl is right. You can't cry. Please save your energy to sue them!" The girl said, "Grandmother, can you tell us what happened?" She said with her heavy southern accent while crying, "They killed my grandson and put my granddaughter-in-law in jail as well. A few days ago a group of policemen arrived and knocked down the temporary mourning shed we built inside our yard to express our sadness and memorialize his spirit. They took away all the material the shed was built with, not leaving even a single stick of wood. What kind of a world is this?"
A gentleman in his 50s said, "Crying here can't help you to solve anything. You should go to the city hall to state your grievance." The grandmother said, "We went there twice already. No one would even talk to us." The girl said, "Don't cry. Please write this incident in a petition letter and let your relatives include their fingerprints. Then sue them in court." The grandmother said, "I don't know how to read and write." The girl then said, "Let me help you to find a reporter. Please tell me your address and phone number, OK?"
The grandmother's relative told her their address and said, "Thank you!" The kind-hearted girl said, "You are welcome. This is what I should do. Everyone should have a sense of justice." An older lady said angrily, "Even if a serious criminal who had been sentenced with a heavy term was beaten to death, the murderer has to take legal responsibility. It is as if we don't have any laws to restrict those evildoers!"
A young man said as he was reading the truth-clarifying flier, "We should get this news on the Internet so that many more people will know." A middle-aged man holding his bike said, "Even if you send this to a website, who would dare to publish it for you? Unless you can send it to the Minghui website! I know this overseas website tells the truth." Another gentleman sighed, "What is the law? There is so much injustice, so many wrongful cases, especially this kind. Who will care and take responsibility?"
Many people actively asked for the truth clarification materials and passed them around to read
On May 10, 2006, four Falun Gong practitioners, Liang Jinhui, Jiang Jiyun, Hu Jingbin, and He Shifang, who had been detained for ten months, were illegally sentenced at the court of Naxi District, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province. Liang Jinhui was sentenced to two and a half years, Jiang Jiyun was sentenced to three and a half years, Hu Jingbin was sentenced to two years, with a three-year suspended sentence, and He Shifang was sentenced for a year and a half, with a two-year suspended sentence.
The four practitioners were turned in for distributing the Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party and calling on people to quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). They were betrayed by a local special agent, Rao Qing, who posed as a Falun Gong practitioner. Six other Falun Gong practitioners were also illegally arrested on July 19, 2005, by the 610 Office in Luzhou City. This case has been exposed both in and out of China, and has drawn a significant amount of attention. Under the CCP's pressure, the case was postponed several times. The court held a total of three sessions, repeatedly changed the court date, and avoided holding the court sessions on politically sensitive dates. The court waited until the night before the court session to notify the family members, even though the law requires a three-day notice. After Hu Jintao returned from his visit to the United States in April 2006, the court hastily announced the verdict.
Before practicing, Liang Jinhui had suffered from mental illness and a disability of his foot. After his illegal arrest, the local 610 Office requested a review of his case. In September 2005, the Xinan Judicature of Sichuan Province determined that Mr. Liang was not capable of serving the prison term. Instead, the CCP arbitrarily refused to release him and increased his punishment. His family refused to accept the verdict and decided to appeal.
Liang Jinhui's younger sister, Liang Xiaofeng (Liang Zhen), is a US citizen residing in Hong Kong. After her brother's arrest, she aggressively launched the rescue effort. More than ten United States Congressmen and Hong Kong Assemblymen sent correspondence to CCP Premier Wen Jiabao, Sichuan Province Governor Zhang Zhongwei, Luzhou City Major Xiao Tianren, and the United States Ambassador in Beijing requesting accountability under law. But the CCP not only continued with the persecution but treated the rescue efforts as a serious case of anti-government activity. Beginning with the Sichuan Province 610 Office and directly involving the communist party's system, the case was sent through a morass of review and reexamination. In the end, the local judiciary officers claimed they were powerless to do anything about the case, because the matter was beyond the scope of its jurisdiction and must be decided by a higher authority.
For fear of exposing its evil acts, the 610 Office of Naxi District in Luzhou City changed its phone number several times. Next, Liang Jinhui's mother Yuan Yuju was illegally sent to a forced labor camp for one year. To add further context to the unjust proceedings, Policeman Gao Li even refused to disclose the labor camp papers to family members.
Since the persecution began on July 20, 1999, Luzhou City's 610
Office has
followed the communist party in the persecution of Falun Gong
practitioners. In
the earlier days, they secretly sentenced three practitioners, Zhao
Derong, Zhou
Honglan, and Liang Yufeng. As a result, Liang Yufeng's only son became
mentally
traumatized, leaving Liang's ninety-year-old mother uncared for.
Clearwisdom.net reported on July 26, 2001 that Falun Gong practitioner Chen Jinchun was missing. The following is an update:
Ms. Chen Jinchun began practicing Falun Gong in April 1999. Because she firmly practiced Falun Gong, the Wuhan police department issued a warrant for her arrest. In order to avoid immediate arrest, she did not return home. The police department frequently dispatched police vehicles to patrol the area around her home, and the street community police, as well as the residents' committee, frequently went to her neighbors' homes to inquire of her whereabouts. The neighbors resented the frequent intrusions.
One day Chen Jinchun's mother received a phone call at home from the municipal police department. At that time she was told that the teacher of Chen Jinchun's child would be visiting her. When some people arrived at her home, Chen's mother very warmly received them. However, upon entering the door it was obvious that they were not from the school. They showed police department credentials only after searching her home, and told Chen's mother: "Chen Jinchun was caught at a supermarket and she jumped from a high place, suffering broken bones. She has been escorted to the armed police hospital for treatment." Chen's mother hurried to go to this hospital. Not finding her daughter there, she searched every big hospital in Wuhan looking for her daughter, but wherever she went, she was told there was no person named Chen Jinchun there.
Chen's mother asked some acquaintances to help her inquire into the whereabouts of her daughter. Only then did she find out that the police department had issued an internal document claiming Chen Jinchun had died on April 30. As of now, the police department still has not informed Chen's family members, asked them to identify the body, or gone through the relevant procedures and there's no information about Chen Jinchun's status. Chen's mother is under surveillance whenever she goes out and her telephone line is also wiretapped.
Fifty-eight year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Shao Lihong from Jiaohe City, Jilin Province, has been staging a hunger strike for a very long time in the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City to protest the persecution. At this moment she is extremely weak and has been in critical condition several times.
Ms. Shao Lihong was a teacher. After she started to practice Falun Gong in 1996, she always disciplined herself according to "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance." Her physical and mental health improved, and her morals also improved. This made people respect her very much. After July 20, 1999, she did not fear the frenzied persecution and went to Beijing to appeal and clarify the truth to people. She was illegally detained and persecuted several times.
At nightfall on November 11, 2005, four or five policemen suddenly broke into her home and took her away forcibly. They put her in the Jiaohe City Detention Center to persecute her. Ms. Shao staged a hunger strike to protest. Without regard for her life and safety, Jiaohe City policemen sent her into the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City for further persecution.
Ms. Shao has been on hunger strike to protest the persecution. The police guards force-fed her in a brutal manner. As a result she had an ulcer in her mouth and esophagus, and her lungs became swollen. The guards also forced her to go into the canteen at every meal time. She is now extremely weak. She has been at death's door several times. The officials sent her to the Jilin Province Police Hospital for further persecution.
Because Ms. Shao refused to give up Falun Gong, she was tortured. She subsequently developed heart disease and liver problems. Her legs are swollen and she has difficulty walking, too. The forced labor camp not only refused to release her but also attempted to force her husband to sign a statement claiming that the labor camp is not responsible for any fatal incident. When her husband refused to sign, the guard threatened him many times. Ms. Shao's over 80-year-old father is in a late stage of lung cancer. Her whole family is in great distress, but is not allowed to see her.
On November 4, 2001, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Pan Hongdong from Heilongjiang was arrested by officers from Xingongdi Police Department in Tiefeng District, Qiqihar (reported previously on Clearwisdom: /emh/articles/2005/6/3/61473.html). In detention he was tortured on a Tiger Bench and was shocked in the genitals with electric batons. Pan Hongdong went on a hunger strike for 3 days. He was then sent to the Second Detention Center in Qiqihar City and detained unconstitutionally. At the end of 2002, Pan was sentenced to 10 years in prison. After the Chinese New Year in 2003, he was sent to Tailai Prison, Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province. As a result of the torture, he died at 8:18 a.m. on May 15, 2005.
On August 26, 2004, the 9th Ward of Tailai Prison was trying to force Pan Hongdong to write a "guarantee statement" to give up practicing Falun Gong when deputy prison instructor Cao Minjiang ordered to have Pan Hongdong tied to a stand. Both of Pan's hands and legs were tied to an "I"-shaped bracket attached to a stand, with a metal bar locked across his chest. He was forced to sit on a cement floor from day to night. Sometimes during the day, they took him outside and paraded him around in public.
Three days later, Pan Hongdong went on a hunger strike. On September 1, 2004, while under extreme persecution, Pan wrote a guarantee statement to give up Falun Gong against his will. At that time he was so severely tortured that the other prisoners couldn't bear to look at him. A prisoner secretly gave Pan Hongdong a cushion to sit on. When the vicious prison guards found out about the cushion, the guards punished the prisoner for the kind gesture.
On the night of May 14, 2005, Pan Hongdong suddenly felt great discomfort. At 7 a.m. he started to throw up. He was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage. Pan Hongdong passed away at 8:18 a.m. on May 15, 2005.
Those who participated in the persecution include the Second Team Instructor He Hongqing and Chang Ansheng of the "Transformation" Team.
After Pan passed away, his family members raised an appeal about his case. An investigator from the Procuratorate's Office went to Tailai to investigate his death. The guards ordered inmates Gao Ming and Zhong Shixiang, both serving terms on criminal charges, to falsify evidence and deny all allegations of persecution.

On May 13, 2006, Jiang Hong from Section 1 of the Xinjin County Police Department stopped an elderly Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. He Xuewen from Wenjing Township, Xinjin County, when he spotted her from his car. He forcibly searched her body, letting her go only after he could not find anything incriminating.
On March 14, 2006, He Xuewen and ten Falun Gong practitioners from Wenjing Township were arrested and detained and their homes were ransacked. All ten practitioners were forced to stand from evening until dawn. The officers at Wenjing Township Police Department slapped the five practitioners in the face. Four practitioners were hung up by their handcuffs, and among them was a 68-year-old practitioner. The police also ransacked the practitioners' homes and stole their Falun Gong books.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yu Rongmei, 59 years old, lived in Daqinjia Village, Daqinjia Town, Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province. After July 20, 1999, Ms. Yu went to Beijing several times to appeal but was intercepted and sent back.
On December 30, 1999, she and several other practitioners were arrested and held at the Daqinjia town government. At that time, 38 practitioners were held there, seven of them were in their late 60s, including Fu Xibin, Chen Yulan, Liu Lianxin, Wang Xiuhua and Yu Guilian.
After dinner on January 3, 2000, police agent Wang Jinli and hired thug Li Chunliang dragged the practitioners out individually and brutally beat them.
Ms. Yu Rongmei was the last one to be dragged out. Eight perpetrators repeatedly hit her back and buttocks with metal rods and wooden sticks until she was covered with cuts and bruises. She could hardly move.
Of these 38 practitioners, 32 were beaten that night. Wang Shushan, the CCP Secretary from Daqinjia Town; Liu Yue, the Political Work Affairs Secretary; and Lin Zhiqiang, the head of the local militia, planned this beating. Ms. Yu Rongmei was released after 13 days of torture.
