Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Yi Haizhu from Jiamusi City is in critical condition at the No. 1 Detention Center. She has been sent to the emergency room many times. Despite her condition, persecutors at the Hegang City Police Department are planning to fabricate charges against her and sentence her to prison.

On February 27, 2006, officers from the Gongnong Police Department in Hegang City illegally arrested Yi Haizhu. She refused to tell her name or answer questions [Note: practitioners often withhold their names due to the persecution policy of implicating and pressuring family members, friends and work units]. To protest the illegal detention, she held a hunger strike at the No. 2 Detention Center in Hegang City. In early April 2006, officials transferred Ms. Yi to the No. 1 Detention Center. Her hunger strike has lasted for more than 50 days, during which period she was sent to the emergency room many times. According to inside sources at the detention center, the authorities refuse to release her, and instead ordered the detention center doctor to give her daily IV infusions. Yi Haizhu is emaciated and at the brink of death.

While Yi Haizhu is in danger of dying, her parents, sister and brother-in-law went to the Hegang City Police Department many times and asked for her release, but the officials refused to let them meet with Yi Haizhu. They are also planning to fabricate charges against Ms. Yi, to sentence her to prison.

My name is Zhang Lixin and I am 63 years old. I was a doctor at a clinic affiliated with the Linjiang City Paper Mill in Jilin Province. Because I practiced Falun Gong, I was illegally sentenced to ten years in October 2002 and detained in the Jilin Women's Prison from November 21, 2002 up to today.

On the day that I arrived I was tired from traveling, but the prison authorities ordered several inmates to bring me to a small room on the third floor. They told me, "All Falun Gong practitioners who come here must write four 'statements.' No sleep is allowed if these are not finished. If you still refuse to write, all prisoners will be forced to do long-term standing with you. You will be beaten and verbally abused by the prisoners until you write all four statements." I patiently told them, "Falun Gong is a practicing method of the Buddha School. It teaches one to follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, do good deeds and accumulate virtue. It doesn't involve politics at all. Neither is it a heresy. We are innocent. The righteous thoughts and deeds of our Falun Gong practitioners influence people everywhere. It also has the effect of raising society's moral standards. We are all good for society. Why ask us to write the so-called 'four statements?'" They told me that I had an "attitude" and ordered me to stand. I told them that I had health problems and could not stand. They didn't let me go to sleep until midnight.

The next day they used same tactics to keep me awake until midnight. They did the same thing in the room next door to my fellow practitioner He Shurong, who arrived at the prison together with me. She was young and was forced to stand upright for two days. As soon as she fell down, they would pull her up. Her legs were swollen and her eyes had turned red. Then they realized that this method was not working to "transform" us.

On the third day they indeed forced all the prisoners to accompany us in the standing torture. Some prisoners cried and some swore. Some even beat us because we didn't write the "four statements" and that interfered with their rest and affected their assignments. This started at 7:00 p.m. and lasted until 11:00 p.m. every day. On the second day, I lost consciousness around 10:00 p.m. because of the unbearable humiliation, beating, swearing, and pressure from the prisoners. In addition, we didn't have any rest for four days. The mental torment and physical abuse pushed me to the limit of my endurance.

They sent me to a hospital. I heard the doctor say, "Her blood pressure is so high!" The doctor said I suffered from severe exhaustion and suggested that I rest for several days. On the second day of rest, I witnessed how they tortured fellow practitioner Ms. He Shurong over night. They drove a healthy person to a mental collapse. At first they claimed she was feigning illness. Several criminals gathered round her to pummel her, and then she was dragged to a small cell and detained alone. She continued to shout loudly. She lost consciousness and lost bowel and bladder continence. Only then did they take her to a hospital. They did not admit that they drove her to a mental collapse, but made the absurd claim that, "Studying Falun Gong made her have practicing insanity."

On December 8, 2002, as soon as she arrived at work, Cao Hong who was in charge of persecuting Falun Gong came to the Eighth Squad asking for me. They told her that I still refused to write the "four statements." She ordered Jin Shunhua and several other criminals to her office and criticized them, implying that their "transformation" pressure was not enough. Later I was told to go to her office. She told me, "You must watch yourself and keep a clear mind. You must write the four statements today." Then she angrily left. The next one arriving was Miao Hua, the criminal in charge of the Eighth Squad. She walked directly toward me and punched me right in the chest, saying, "What do you want to do?" She beat me and pushed me. I fell on the floor. She pulled me up and hit me five or six times on the chest and then left.

In the meantime, Jin Shunhua selected several strong criminals. Half of them were juvenile delinquents incarcerated for robbery. They blocked the way, surrounding me. Jin Shunhua handed me some paper and a pen and demanded I write the "four statements." I refused. The criminals punched and kicked me. They pushed me back and forth. They beat me, an elderly woman, until I had become dizzy and saw stars. I became unconscious and fell down.

They pulled me up again and demanded to know whether or not I would write the statements. I still refused. They pushed me again. One of them named Wang Lin, a juvenile delinquent, twisted my left arm behind my back and exerted force on it. My miserable cry could be heard throughout the entire third floor. Jin Shunhua was afraid to endanger my life and ordered her to loosen her grip. The muscles and tendons in my arm were injured and were very sore. Only six months later was I able to move my left arm freely.

Seeing that such suffering still failed to make me give in, Jin Shunhua started to slap my face while grinding her teeth. She said, "You, old woman, don't appreciate our kindness! You don't know what is good for you. You can save yourself from the brutal beating if you 'transform' here." Prisoners in threre were even more brutal. They beat our private parts where others could not see. Whenever a beating began, the instructor would walk away. Later if one reported to the instructor, he would ask the victim to name the attacker; however, nobody would come forward and be a witness. How could one take off her underwear and show others? Even she did, it was still in vain.

At last they had run out of tactics. It was already noon. Seeing that I still refused to write, Jin Shunhua ordered a prisoner to write the statements for me. When she finished, I was ordered to sign. I refused. They were infuriated and had several people force my arm and hand to sign. I scratched out their so-called "four statements" and did not sign my name. Finally, they transcribed it again. This time they even forged my signature and then claimed I was "transformed" by them. They also threatened me, "Don't tell others!" I told them right away, "That was written by you. It has nothing to do with me."

Those who failed to write the "four statements" were forbidden to see their families. December 5, 2002 was my 60th birthday. My two daughters traveled all the way from Baishan to celebrate my birthday. The instructor spoke to me and asked, "Do you want to see your girls?" I said yes. She said, "There is a price to pay to see them. You must write the 'four statements;' otherwise, forget about it."

Even the actual criminals have the right to see their families. Why do we have to pay a price? Which law regulated this? Actual criminals can write statements to upper ranks or to the judicial bureau without any inspection. When we wrote such statements of appeal, we were ordered not to seal them during a session the assistant head had supervised. They said supervisor Tang would have to inspect it before it is mailed out. What inspection right does director Tang have? Which laws apply to her?

The prison officials formulated an implication policy. The instructor's work performance and bonus payments are linked to the number of "transformed" Falun Gong practitioners. Criminals' work points also coincide with the number of "transformed" practitioners. "Transforming" one Falun Gong practitioner can bring a bonus for an instructor and award points to criminals. By using the implication policy, if Falun Gong practitioners didn't obey the unreasonable prison regulations, they would say that we violated the prison regulations and all criminal in the cell would also have points deducted. Thus, afraid of losing self-interest, the prisoners would follow us all the time, even to the restroom. Detaining us in a small cell was done quite often. We were often tied up on a bed in attempt to force us to "transform."

Some Falun Gong practitioners could not withstand such inhuman torture and humiliation. Some practitioners were forced to go on a protest hunger strike. Some of the ones who died from such gross abuse and mental agony were Yang Guiqin, Yang Guijun and Deng Shiying, etc. The prison authorities didn't take a lesson from their deaths. They are still trying all kinds of methods to forcibly "transform" practitioners.

The above-cited incidents of abuse and mistreatment of Falun Gong practitioners under this lawless persecution is a severe trampling of the law and of human rights and the freedom of belief. I hope all the kind people in the world will help rescue the persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in China

During February of 2006, practitioner Lian Tao from Yichun City was beaten while jailed in the Team No. 2 section of Suihua Forced Labour Camp. Lian Tao sustained multiple severe facial injuries from 10 full minutes of brutal beating by police and a team of labour camp inmates. The team leader's surname is Zhen.

On February 21, 2006, the provincial head of labour camps attended a conference at the Suihua Forced Labor Camp. He was touring the labor camp manufacturing workshops at the second team when Wang Zhiqian stood up and reported the police beatings of Falun Gong practitioners. Police officers Long Kuibin and Diao Xuesong withheld Wang Zhiqian's lunch. Wang's sentence was extended another three months (some say six months) for breaking the rules and appealing without going through the correct procedures. A written record was made, but the officers who beat the practitioners were not punished.

On March 9, 2006, the practitioners being persecuted at the Quegang Forced Labor Camp were moved to the Suihua Forced Labor Camp. That night, police officers at the labor camp ordered the inmates to torture practitioners by pouring cold water over them. The water is deep well water that is extremely cold all year round. Buckets and buckets of this water were poured on top of the practitioners. Practitioner Shen Weijiang (similar pronunciation) loudly yelled out, "Faun Dafa is good." A few inmates beat him. They are Ma Dacheng (Lanxi County), Wang Chen (Anda City), Li Hongjiang (similar pronunciation), Liu Qiang (Wang Kuixian) and Huo Wenbin (Anda City) who has almost finished serving his labor camp sentence. Huo Wenbin inflicted extreme cruelty on many practitioners during his two-year sentence. After two days, Shen Weijiang still had a 2 cm cut above his left eyebrow and a 2 x 4 cm bruise at his right temple. Police officer Diao Xuesong arrived and Shen Weijiang reported the beating to him. He was tortured with a few more buckets of water for reporting the beating.

Starting at the end of 2005, practitioners illegally detained at Mudanjiang Forced Labor Camp, Muleng City Bamiantong Detention Center, Qiqihar Forced Labor Camp, Quegang Forced Labor Camp and Daqing Forced Labor Camp have been transferred to Suihua Forced Labor Camp for further persecution.

Police from the 2nd Team at Suihua Forced Labour Camp would force newly arrived practitioners to watch DVDs that slander Falun Gong and then force practitioners to write comments on them. On March 12, 2006, Diao Xuesong, head of the No. 2 Team said, "If you don't write any comments after watching, we can extend your sentence by one to three years. This can be done easily."

The above are recent examples of persecution suffered by practitioners at Suihua Forced Labor Camp.

Wang Qiuyan

Ms. Wang Qiuyan, 55, was a Falun Gong practitioner and retiree from a cassette factory in the Jinzhou District, Dalian City. She was arrested in 2001 while she and other practitioners were distributing Falun Gong material and someone reported them. Ms. Wang was later held at the Jinshou District Detention Center. She was not permitted to practice or follow Falun Gong during detention. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and was released. After a two-year battle with breast cancer she passed away in August, 2003.

Mr. Chen Tianbao, 59, was a Falun Gong practitioner in Henan Province. He was arrested on March 2001, and was subjected to severe physical abuse. He was forced to stand barefoot outside in 101^o F heat for an hour. He was not permitted to eat the food his family had delivered and he was continuously starved. Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen used to weight about 200 lbs., but he became very skinny several months after his arrest. The officials released him on bail for medical treatment of uncontrolled hypertension. He failed to respond to the treatment and passed away on April 16, 2005.

Mr. Wang Kunchao, 70, was a Falun Gong practitioner in Henan Province. His illnesses were healed after he began Falun Gong practice. After the persecution began on July 20, 1999, agents from the 610 Office frequently came to his home to disturb him and his family. They came in a group each time. He was subjected to psychological abuse. Later he developed recurrent strokes, in combination with cardiac arrest. He passed away on September 8, 2002, according to the Chinese lunar calendar.

Ms. Jiang Yu Xiu, 74, lived at No. 4 Group in Fenshui Village, Mulan Township in the Xindu District, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. She began Falun Gong study in 1997 and previously had many kinds of illnesses. After beginning the practice, all her symptoms disappeared. In 2000 she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and was arrested by the police and taken back by local police from her area. She was released after paying a deposit. A year later, when police came to return her deposit, they forced her to "reform" [renounce Falun Gong] although she had already declared in solemn statements that her prior words and deeds under forced "reform" were null and void. Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials frequently harassed her family. She passed away in March 2006.

Mr. Jiang Xuehui, 66, was a Falun Gong practitioner from the first village in the Zhong Lingsi region, Yongxing Township, in the Shuanshan District, Suining City, Sichuan Province. Before he began Falun Gong practice he had several severe illnesses, including Hepatitis B, pleurisy and pulmonary emphysema. After practicing his health was restored. Mr. Jiang attempted to go to Beijing in January 2001, to petition for Falun Gong, but was captured at Chongqing Train Station, sent back and incarcerated at the Wu Jiawan Detention Center in Suining City. Police illegally searched his home. They were from the Yongxing Police Station and from the township government. Police confiscated Falun Gong books, flyers and videotapes. Mr. Jiang had been detained for three months and was released after paying a fine of 1,000 yuan. Under the CCP long-term harassment, Mr. Jiang Xuehui could not normally practice Falun Gong. His old illnesses recurred in September 2005, and he passed away on October 25 of the same year.

Mr. Han Shihui, 66, was a Xinya Corporation retiree in Liaocheng City, Shandong Province who began Falun Gong practice in 1997. Before practicing Falun Gong he'd had a stroke and other illnesses. After the Falun Gong practice, all his illnesses disappeared. Mr. Han continued with his Falun Gong practice following July 20, 1999, but frequently received threats and harassment. These resulted in a relapse of his old illness. He passed away on December 28, 2005.

Practitioner Ms. Lei Zhanxiang is from Jinchang City, Gansu Province. In the evening on December 30, 2005, she was distributing truth-clarifying materials around Yongchang County Jinchang Prison in Hongguang-Yonganyuan Community, and was discovered by policeman Zhang who was on duty. Then, Zhang called for two security guards from Yongchang County Criminal Branch. Three of them pulled Lei Zhangxiang's scarf and tried to choke her. They punched and kicked her, and then dragged her to the Yonganyuan Police Station. By then, Lei Zhanxiang was unconscious.

Police from the Yongchang County Police Station came to carry Lei Zhanxiang to the police car. They handcuffed her in the police station for 24 hours, and tortured her in order to learn the source of the truth-clarifying materials. They beat her until she wet her pants, which felt like being soaked in icy water on the bitter cold New Year's Day of 2006. When Lei Zhanxiang was sent to the Yongchang County Detention Center, she was very weak. The guards in the detention center punished her by ordering her to carry a bed board for 48 hours. On January 5, 2006, Lei Zhanxiang was formally arrested by police officers from the Yongchang County Police Station. (She had been forced to be homeless ever since the warrant for her arrest was issued on April 30, 2002.)

When Lei Zhanxiang was held in the detention center, the police tried hard to block the news of her arrest. They often interrogated and tortured her to learn the source of the truth-clarifying materials and the funding for the materials. They did not allow her family to visit her and forced her to perform excessive physical labor.

Recently the police prepared to secretly hold a court session for Ms. Lei in Yongchang Court. Fearing the exposure of their evildoings, they did not inform the practitioner's family.

1. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Li Guanghao and Two others Missing

On April 5, 2006, three Falun Gong practitioners from Yuhong District, Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, went missing. They are Mr. Li Guanghao (30 years old), Ms. Cai Minzhi (50 years old) and Mr. Yang (first name unknown, Ms. Cai's husband, 50 years old). The son of Ms. Cai (not a practitioner, 20 years old) is also missing. Since April 5 there has been no answer at their door and no one picks up their calls.

At 10:00 a.m. on April 6, 2006, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhao Qin was arrested by police from the local station when she was shopping at the Dahuaiyin Food Market. Next, her home was ransacked and Falun Gong books were confiscated from her home, including the book Zhuan Falun. The police said that Ms. Zhao Qin would be detained for 15 days at the Dahuaishu Police Station. At present her family members are still protesting.

On March 31, 2006, Mr. Liu Bogang, Ms. Yang Shujun and 15 other Falun Gong practitioners arrested at the end of 2004 were sentenced by the Qiqihar City Intermediate Court. Only five practitioners' families received notice from the court. These five practitioners were bailed out on medical parole. There were not many people at the court because the public was not informed about the proceedings.

Families who did go there reported that the 15 Falun Gong practitioners had been severely tortured. One was blinded and needed to be carried into the courthouse. Another practitioner had a swollen face and knocked out teeth. One practitioner's hair turned white, and some arrived wearing only slippers.

The judge said that the reason why it took so long for the trial to get to court was because no one wanted to take the case. "I did not do any research about cults," he said. "You have 10 days to appeal, and you will be sentenced 10 days later."

The Falun Gong practitioners were not allowed to defend themselves. One practitioner said, "We are not a cult. Please open "Clearwisdom Weekly" and see if you can find one paragraph that is not right." Someone smacked this practitioner's head with a bundle of files for saying that.

At 9:00 p.m. on March 28, 2006, four Falun Gong practitioners were arrested by police officer Zhang Yifei from the National Security Group. Much equipment was confiscated. Some practitioners' houses were ransacked. Among them, one practitioner's four deposit records with a balance of ten thousand yuan were stolen. At present, the practitioners are detained in Nanchang City's First Detention Center.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xie Huijian was forced to leave his house to escape from persecution. He lived in Group 4, Xindong Village, Changqiao Township, Yanling County, Xuchang City. He was arrested by policemen in Yuzhou City on January 16, 2006. He was sent to the Yanling County Detention Center and tortured for one month before being sent to Xuchang 3rd Labor Camp.

A Falun Gong practitioner from Tiaoqiaoling Forestry, Wangqing Couty, Jilin Province, was arrested by police a week ago. Now he is detained at the Forestry Police Detention Center.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Shen Yuanxing and Lu (first name unknown, gender unknown) from Tongshang County, Hubei Province were reported when delivering truth-clarifying materials on February 26, 2006. State Security agents arrested them. Currently, no one knows where they have been detained.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Chen Guihua was a teacher employed by the Xiling Elementary School (affiliated with the Datong Center School), in Qingbaijiang District, Chengdu City. His left arm was fractured by police beatings. Afterwards, he was deceived into going to work, where he was illegally arrested.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xuan Liqiang, a young instructor of the Guangdong Ocean University, has been arrested for clarifying the truth. He was detained at the Xiashan Detention Center in Zhanjiang City. His home was ransacked, and it was said that his home was sealed off.

On the afternoon of April 5, 2006, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhu Yanchuan, from Chengdu City, was arrested by policemen when she was clarifying the truth near the Jiuyanqiao Region in the City. On the same night, policemen from the Jinjiang District Department went to her apartment (located in family housing - associated with the Institute of Nuclear Physics), and ransacked her home. A computer was confiscated along with some Falun Gong books. Ms. Zhu Yanchuan has been sent to the Chengdu City Detention Center.

On April 2, 2006, policemen from Xiaozhaozhuang Station, Xinhua Department in Cangzhou City, broke into Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Li Congzheng's house when no one was home. Items valued at 5,000 yuan were confiscated, including a cell phone, deposit record, a bank debit card with a 10,000 yuan balance on it, ID card, bills and insurance cards.

On April 3, 2006, Falun Gong practitioners Gao Xianying and Du Bihua were arrested (gender unknown) when they hung up Falun Gong truth posters at the Fang Mountain Scenic Tourist spot. Gao Xianying was arrested and sent to the Naxi Detention Center in Luzhou City; Du Bihua was sent to the Yuhuangguan Detention Center in Luzhou City.

On March 12, 2006, policemen from Fangshan District Department in Beijing City broke into a Falun Gong practitioner's house in Wudian Neighborhood. They confiscated a computer, a printer and items worth 10,000 yuan.

At half past eight on April 4, 2006, policemen from Enjizhuang Station in Haidian District, Beijing City, broke into Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Kuizan's house. They got in with the excuse of checking IDs and ransacked her house. Early the next morning, Ms. Wang Kuizan and her daughter were arrested. Three other Falun Gong practitioners, (including Ms. Chang Chunyi) who were visiting Ms. Wang at the time were also arrested.

On the day of April 5, 2006, five practitioners were sent to Haidian Detention Center near Qinghe Xiaoying.

In 2001, Nanyang Oil Machinery Plant Affiliated School Leaders forced all teachers and students to stand in line and sign something slandering Falun Gong. Every summer and winter holiday, they send letters to the parents of the students that slander Falun Gong.

In January 2001, I was arrested and detained at the Shangzhuang Detention Center in Nanyang City, Henan Province. Criminals were induced by guards to pour cold water on me. On the second day, a prisoner kicked me around, and kicked me against the side of the wall. One month later, guards wanted to force me to "transform." A policeman named Li from the procuratorate beat me to make me write something. A couple of days later, Li came to me again and forced me to listen to two collaborators. During this period, some Falun Gong practitioners went on hunger strikes to protest being detained, and were force-fed. I was detained for two weeks and tortured both physically and mentally. I lost 33 lbs.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Xu Yuxiang lived in Xi'erbao Village, Zhuolu County, and is nearly 60 years old. He was detained at the Tangshan Labor Camp because he did not give up his faith in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." He has been tortured inhumanly. Now, Mr. Xu Yuxiang is being tortured in the Yiangtai Brainwashing Class (Zhangjiakou City Law Education School).

During the brainwashing class, Mr. Xu destroyed a poster that slandered Falun Gong. He was stripped by guards who were led by He Chunli and other people. He was electrically shocked everywhere on his body, and was whipped with barbed wire. He was left with wounds all over his body. Even a person who was so-called "accompanying and training," could not bear to see this and resigned.

One noon, Mr. Xu Yuxiang was hauled to a cold house and cuffed behind the back for nearly 10 hours, during which time he was not allowed to go to the restroom or eat. He was only fed one piece of cornbread that was less than four ounces. He is still being persecuted.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Yushu, 63 years old, lived in the Tumu Township, in Huailai County. He was detained because he practices Falun Gong. He was electrically shocked from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. (5 to 6 hours). While others were celebrating the New Year, Mr. Liu Yushu was getting cold water poured over him.

At present, Mr. Liu Yushu is detained at the Yangtai Brainwashing Class in Zhangjiakou City (Zhangjiakou Law School). It's said that this is his second time being tortured in a brainwashing class. While there he was forced to work and his blood pressure rose to a dangerous 180/200. He is still being persecuted even when his life is in danger.
