Minghui/Clearwisdom correspondent Li Jingfei reports: 39-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Chen Xingtao passed away in May 2002, after being savagely tortured at Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province. In the past four years, her husband Li Yuejin went to various government departments to seek justice. He said, "I must find justice for my wife and bring to justice the guards at the labor camp and other government officials who are responsible for her death. I will not give up. Falun Gong is innocent! There is nothing wrong with being a good person!"

Numerous home searches, illegal detention and incarceration
Li Yuejin said that his wife Chen Xingtao started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. She conducted herself according to Truth, Compassion, and Tolerance and thought of others in everything she did.
After Jiang's villainous group started persecuting Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, government agents such as Fang Qinglong and other officials from Yanglin Township, Yueyang County, Hunan Province broke into Li Yuejin's home on July 24, 1999 and took VHS player(s) and audio recorders, as well as Falun Gong books.
In April 2000, Chen Xingtao was illegally arrested and sent to a custody center. The persecutors took 500 yuan cash from her and sent her to a detention center. Deputy detention center head Xie Zehua beat Chen Xingtao until she was black and blue. Xie Zehua also handcuffed and shackled Ms. Chen for one week and didn't release her until he extorted 1,500 yuan from her family.
In November 2000, Chen Xingtao was again detained for 23 days. On December 14, her family was extorted out of another 1,000 yuan.
In January 2001, Fang Qinglong and other officials from the township government arrested and sent Ms. Chen to a brainwashing class set up at a custody center. They then sent her to the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City, where she was sentenced to 18 months of forced labor.
Chen Xingtao jumped off a building to avoid persecution; labor camp authorities spread lie-filled video
Li Yuejin said that after Chen Xingtao was sent to the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp in Zhuzhou City, the guards used violence in an attempt to "reform" her. They beat and kicked her, handcuffed her and shocked her with electric batons. They kept her in handcuffs even when she was asleep.
On March 24, 2001, labor camp administrators called Ms. Chen to the office. Right after she walked into the room, three guards pinned her against the wall and shocked her palms with electric batons until they turned black. They beat her until her body was covered with wounds, and they shocked her until her whole body was covered in blisters. They also held her on the ground and shocked the soles of her feet for several hours. They beat and shocked her until she was unrecognizable.
Early in the morning on April 1, Chen Xingtao jumped off the second story of a building to avoid further persecution and was severely injured. The labor camp authorities learned about it and tried their best to cover up the truth. They fabricated a false confession and forced her to sign it, and even staged the scene and videotaped it to deceive the public.
Labor camp authorities do not care about the life of Falun Gong practitioner
The jump broke Chen Xingtao's spine and she underwent surgery. The surgical incision was more than nine inches long and required 14 stitches. Her lower body was paralyzed, she lost consciousness and was incontinent.
Li Yuejin said that the guards at the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp handcuffed his wife to a bed. Female guard Zhu Rong was extremely vicious. She handcuffed Chen Xingtao to the side of the bed and slapped her face hard. She also squeezed toothpaste in her eyes, ears, nose, mouth and other parts of her body. Chen Xingtao's eyes watered from the irritation; she could not move her body. They also didn't give her any food or water. They treated Ms. Chen inhumanely, despite her critical condition.
On April 9, 2001, Zhao, the head of Baimalong Forced Labor Camp, threatened Li Yuejin, "We are not responsible for anyone who dies in the hospital, because the police baton only hurts the skin but not the bone."
On May 10, Yi, head of the labor camp, said to Chen Xingtao's family, "She doesn't need any more medications now. She can go home."
Li Yuejin said that Chen Xingtao's whole body was paralyzed and she was unconscious when they sent her home. She was incontinent and her legs had atrophied. Her serious condition was the result of torture she suffered at the labor camp and the jump from the building in her attempt to escape further persecution.
On May 12, Fang, head of the Administration Section at the labor camp threatened Chen Xingtao's family, "If you don't take her home now, you won't have the opportunity to take her home in the future."
Fang called Li Yuejin's father several times and threatened this uneducated man in his 60s in a cold and hard tone. Li Yuejin said, "My father is a simple and uneducated farmer. He signed a document after they threatened him."
Authorities from the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp immediately sent Chen Xingtao to the Yueyang City government offices. The city officials saw that she was in critical condition and refused to accept her. The authorities from the labor camp and the city government officials argued for more than four hours. The labor camp authorities again forced Li Yuejin's father to sign a document and extorted another 2,000 yuan in cash.
Chen Xingtao passes away
On June 15, after Chen Xingtao returned home, the wound on her sacrum ulcerated and left a fist-sized hole. Her two pieces of tailbones disintegrated and she had blood in her urine and feces. Severe pain prevented her from sitting or lying down for a long time.
Li Yuejin asked Chen Jihong, secretary of the township Political and Judiciary Committee, to come look at Chen Xingtao and tell the government about it, but no official came.
With no other choice, Li Yuejin went to the Hunan Province High People's Court where he was told, "Go to the Ministry of Public Security, since there are no criminal charges." The Ministry of Public Security told Li Yuejin to go to the Labor Reeducation Bureau, who in turn referred him to the Baimalong Forced Labor Camp. Not a single official took any responsibility or offered a solution to the problem.
Li Yuejin took Chen Xingtao to the No. 2 Hospital in Yueyang County, but the hospital refused to perform a medical examination because she is a Falun Gong practitioner.
On April 29, 2002, Chen Xingtao's condition worsened and ulcerations appeared throughout her body. Due to the delay in medical treatment, Chen Xingtao passed away on May 27, 2002.
Chen Xingtao's family asked the township government to help with the funeral, but the township government didn't do anything; instead, Lan Tianxi from the local People's Congress beat the family.
Three family members died from persecution
Li Yuejin said, "Since July 1999, my parents and my wife have died from the persecution. The government officials ransacked my home every few days. My mother passed away on August 10, 1999, because she could no longer tolerate the threats and intimidation. After my wife Chen Xingtao died from the persecution, my father was grieved and angry after the suffering my family had been through. He passed away on December 23, 2002."
Li Yuejin said, "There are hundreds of Falun Gong practitioners in my hometown. I have never seen any of them doing anything harmful to the government or to the society. On the contrary, it is the government that has inflicted so many disasters and broken up so many families. Countless people have been turned into victims. Why?"
Li Yuejin decides to seek justice for his wife
Li Yuejin and Chen Xingtao have four daughters, two of whom are in school. After Li Yuejin's wife and parents passed away, Li Yuejin had to take on the responsibility of providing for the whole family.
Li Yuejin said, "After Chen Xingtao died from the persecution, I've never given up seeking justice for her. My wife didn't commit any crimes!"
The persecutors said to Li Yuejin, "If you blame everything on Falun Gong, we'll cover all of your expenses."
Li Yuejin replied, "There is nothing wrong with Falun Gong! There is nothing wrong with being a good person!"
On July 12, 2004, Li Yuejin filed a lawsuit against the Baimalong
Forced
Labor Camp and asked for the guards at the labor camp and their
superiors to be
held accountable for their crimes, because as administrators of the law
they
have violated the law. He also asked for the defendants to pay for the
expenses
incurred from Ms. Chen's injuries and death, as well as to help with
the rearing
of their children.

Weinan Prison in Shaanxi Province was a prison specifically for prisoners with heavy sentences. There were 16 districts in the prison. Most of the prisoners were sentenced to a postponed death penalty or lifetime imprisonment. In the last six years since the evil party and Jiang Zemin have persecuted Falun Gong, Weinan Prison has become an evil place in Shaanxi Province to persecute Falun Gong practitioners.
In November 2005, as instigated by Luo Gan and Zeng Qinghong, the evil party members in Shaanxi Province aggravated the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Thirty Falun Gong practitioners (including Mr. Duan Shibao), who were illegally detained in Fuping Prison of Shaanxi Province, and all Falun Gong practitioners who were illegally detained in Hanzhong Prison were transferred to and persecuted in Weinan Prison. There were Falun Gong practitioners in almost every district. Weinan Prison, a prison especially for heavily-sentenced prisoners, became a prison for male Falun Gong practitioners who were illegally sentenced in Shaanxi Province.
The transfer of practitioners to a centralized location is most likely part of the party's plan to confine practitioners to Sujiatun-type concentration camps. In addition, the strict control system in the prisons for heavily-sentenced prisoners made it easy to strictly block the information so that few people heard of the brutal persecution behind the high walls.
Falun Gong practitioners in Weinan prison suffered from even worse living conditions than those prisoners sentenced to lifetime imprisonment. They were deprived of any personal freedom, as well as the freedom to speak. In every district, most practitioners were locked in solitary cells for long periods of time. Two prisoners were designated as "personal cangues" (1) to supervise every practitioner.
Most Falun Gong practitioners who were illegally imprisoned refused to participate in the forced-labor, the flag-raising ceremony, the formation drill, or the so-called political studies. They refused to recite the prison regulations, and refused to be assigned in the "three-person-group" supervised by two cangues.
The prison persecuted practitioners who resisted the evil persecution more severely, and locked them in confinement cells where it is damp and gloomy. The practitioners had only two buns every day as their meals and had to sleep on the damp ground at night. If they didn't want to sleep on the wet floor they had to squat until they were too sleepy to hold on. Weinan prison created such a terrible environment of hunger, cold, darkness and solitude to torture Falun Gong practitioners long-term.
Mr. Han Xu is a Falun Gong practitioner who used to work in the foreign trade department in Gansu Province. He had mastered three foreign languages. He was imprisoned in the 11th district. Mr. Zhang Huipu, a Falun Gong practitioner from Xi'an University of Science and Technology (former Xi'an Mining Institute), was illegally sentenced to thirteen-years of imprisonment and was imprisoned in the eleventh district. Mr. Zhang Junmin was imprisoned in the first district. Mr. Yang Keqiang was imprisoned in the second district. All of them were persecuted in confinement cells for many days, some for as long as several months. Many practitioners who were locked in the confinement cells went on hunger strikes in the confinement cells to protest the persecution.
Those who followed the evil party's instructions in various degrees and who directed or participated in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners include: Dong Lei, current deputy secretary of Shaanxi provincial party committee in charge of political and judiciary issues, Zhao Zhengyong, current Executive deputy governor, former political and judiciary secretary of Shaanxi provincial party committee, Song Hongwu, political and judiciary secretary of Shaanxi provincial party committee, Zhao Yingwu, director of judicial Department of Shaanxi Province, Liu Xiuzhen, party secretary of the Prison Administration Bureau in Shaanxi Province, Wang Zhixiong, warden of Weinan Prison, Huo Feng, assistant warden and Wang Shuguang, chief of the political section in Weinan Prision. They cannot escape responsibility for their crimes.
Note:
1. Personal cangues - (There were "open cangues" and "secret cangues") Cangue, the name of an instrument of torture, is now used to indicate the person who was designated to supervise the behavior of practitioners.

On January 8, 2006, Qu Yonghua, Sun Shuangrong, and Li Wanyue from Xinhua Town, Acheng City of Heilongjiang Province, were distributing Falun Gong truth-clarification materials in Yongyuan Town. They were reported to the authorities, illegally arrested and taken to the Yongyuan Town Police Station. They have been detained ever since.
Mr. Qu Yonghua, from Xiucai Village in Xinhua Town of Acheng City, is 53 years old. He learned about Falun Gong in 1996 and started practicing in July 1998. Before he started practicing, he had many bad habits including being addicted to alcohol and abusing his wife. Since practicing Falun Gong, Qu Yonghua has turned around completely, becoming a person who considers other people first wherever he goes. He was imprisoned four times for practicing Falun Gong.
In November 2000, Qu Yonghua went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong. He was arrested and held in the Acheng City detention center for two months. His family members had to pay over 3,000 yuan to get him released. In February 2001, Mr. Qu was taken to the brainwashing center in the Yagou Town military compound. At the end of September 2004, when Qu Yonghua was harvesting at his farm, officers from the Acheng City 610 Office and police from the Xinhua Police Station arrested him and sent him to the brainwashing center in Acheng.
Ms. Sun Shuangrong from Xiucai Village in Xinhua Town, Acheng City, started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. Before she started practicing, Sun Shuangrong had serious gastric problems and her left leg was disabled. Her legs bent inward and she had difficulty walking. She could not do heavy labor and took medicine all year long. After practicing Falun Gong, all her diseases were cured without taking medicine. She frequently told the local people about the changes that Falun Gong brought to her, and hoped that people would treat Falun Gong practitioners kindly.
Li Wanyue from Hejia Village in Xinhua Town, Acheng City, started practicing Falun Gong in 1998 and benefited both physically and mentally. Li Wanyue went to Beijing in 2000 to appeal for Falun Gong and was illegally imprisoned by Beijing police. Later, Mr. Li was sent back to the Xinhua Town police station and was held at the Acheng City detention center. Li Wanyue's family members had to pay over 8,000 yuan to get him released.

Mr. Zhao Aijun and Ms. Zhou Haixia, a couple from Shihezi City, Xinjiang Autonomous Region, have been arrested by the local police several times for practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Zhao was arrested in 2003 and escaped. He has been wanted ever since. He, his wife, Zhou Haixia, and their child decided to become homeless to avoid further persecution. On February 14, 2006, in Urumqi, Mr. Zhao was again arrested. Three policemen jailed him in the First Detention Center of Shihezi City.
Since his most recent arrest, Mr. Zhao has been on a hunger strike and is very weak. He is in handcuffs and shackles, which are only used on criminals on death row. After searching Mr. Zhao the police didn't find any evidence, but they still claimed that they would not let him go and would sentence him to prison.
On February 20, Mr. Zhao and Ms. Zhou Haixia's pictures were posted on the streets in Urumqi in an attempt to also arrest Ms. Zhou, who is now in a very difficult situation with their two-year-old child.
The following are their persecution experiences.
Going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and getting arrested twice
Zhao Aijun used to be a police officer in Shihezi City. After the persecution began, he lost his regular job and was assigned a janitor's job. In September 20, 1999, he was fired for refusing to renounce Falun Gong. He then became an employee in a guard company.
Zhou Haixia worked in an electric equipment factory in Shihezi City. Since she refused to sign a Guarantee Statement to renounce Falun Gong, the head of the factory's CCP committee, Qu Yinchang, jailed her in the factory. They released her later under her strong protest. They also laid her off, only paying her a minimum pension. They ordered her to go to the factory every day so that they could watch her.
The couple was arrested again in October 3, 1999, for doing the Falun Gong exercises in a public square. Wang Keping and Xu Ningdong, agents from the Shihezi Police Department, searched their house. Ms. Zhou was jailed for 11 days and Mr. Zhao for 15 days.
At the end of October 1999, Mr. Zhao and Ms. Zhou went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. When they got to Beijing, they heard that all the practitioners who had gone to the National Appeals Bureau had been arrested, so they went to Tiananmen square to appeal.
On November 4, Mr. Zhao and Ms. Zhou, along with other practitioners from Anhui, did the Falun Gong meditation on Tiananmen Square. Police arrested and detained them. In the detention center, the couple was locked together for three hours, which hurt their wrists. They were transferred to the Shihezi City agent's office in Beijing and escaped in the middle of the night.
This brave couple decided to go to Tiananmen Square again. In November 10, they went on to the Tiananmen Gate Building. Although there were many police about, they ignored them and shouted, "Falun Dafa is great!" Then they did the first set of the Falun Gong exercises.
They were jailed in Beijing's Chongwen District Detention Center for nine days. Ms. Zhou started a hunger strike to protest. The police force-fed her. They ordered one male criminal inmate to push her against the floor and insert a hard tube into her nose. The tube scratched her lung, and she was choked by water. The criminal didn't pull the tube out until she had almost lost consciousness.
Officers from Shihezi went to Beijing and took the couple back to Shihezi. They were locked in the Mosuowan Detention Center for 50 days, from November 10 to December 30. Later they were sentenced to forced labor, Mr. Zhao for three years and Ms. Zhou for two.
Ms. Zhou Haixia badly tortured in the labor camp and injured when trying to escape
Ms. Zhou was jailed in the Wulabo Forced Labor Camp in Urumqi, where most of the criminals are drug users. She was locked up in the so-called "intensive watching cell." Forty people were held in a 20 square meter room (about 215 square feet). She was forced to do labor before dawn. Her job was to carry 50 kg loads (about 100 pounds), and she had to work for 17 or 18 hours a day. During the day the guards kept cursing them. They didn't have breaks, even a bathroom break, except for a one-hour lunch break. They had to work everyday till 1:00 or 2:00 a.m. If the guards were not satisfied with their work, they would be punished by having to work till 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. or forbidden to eat. Sometimes the punishment was to stand in the snowy field in thin clothes. Although they had to work till very late, they still had to get up before dawn.
Most arrested women practitioners in Xinjiang are jailed in this labor camp. The female police officer, Ba Xiaomei, used all kinds of methods to force practitioners to reform. She ordered the criminal inmates to beat Ms. Zhou, who was often beaten black and blue.
In 2000, Ms. Zhou started a hunger strike to protest. She was violently beaten and force-fed. She was also forced to stand 24 hours a day without any sleep for six days. To force her to eat, the policemen refused to let any criminal inmates in her cell meet their families, which made them all hate Ms. Zhou Haixia and made them try to force her to eat. This is one of the common tricks that the CCP likes to use--making people hate Falun Gong. Since Ms. Zhou was not swayed, the guards then forced all the criminal inmates to stand in an extremely uncomfortable pose: they had to stand with their hands touching the ground and their legs straight. Nobody can endure this for a long time. Everybody cried and somebody even kneeled down to beg Zhou Haixia to eat.
In 2001, after the fake "self-immolation" case occurred, the persecution got worse. Ba Xiaomei and the deputy political head of the forced labor camp, Ma Xiaoqin, took more than 100 practitioners into their office one by one in the middle of the night on February 8, 2001, and beat them with five electric batons. They beat the practitioners on their mouths, noses, ears, hands, and other sensitive parts for more than 30 minutes and sometimes even two hours. Practitioners' faces and necks were badly burned and some of them could not walk due to the electric baton beating. Ninety percent of the practitioners jailed in that labor camp were tortured that night. The guards who tortured them were Ba Xiaomei, Yuan Tingting, Li Xiaoting, Wang Yan, and Peng Huaidong.
February 10 was family visiting day. Some practitioners told their families about the torture. Afterwards the labor camp authorities cut off all Falun Gong practitioners' family visits. Ms. Zhou's family never saw her again until she was released.
In 2001, the labor camp extended the sentences of the practitioners who refused to "reform.: Ms. Zhou's sentence was extended by eight months. When she appealed to the labor camp bureau, the guards, including Li Zongping, intercepted her appeals letter. Ms. Zhou then asked her family to pass the appeals letter to the bureau, but they never got a reply.
In April 2002, Ms. Zhou was sent to a brainwashing ssession held by the Xinjiang AR's CCP committee. Many government officers who were trained in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners were present. They were: Man Zongzhou, the vice general secretary of the Xinjiang AR's CCP committee; Ma Pengcheng; Quan Yujie, a high-ranking officer in the police department in Xinjiang; Wei; and other government officers. Each practitioner had two people from their original workplaces as her personal monitors. The practitioners were watched 24 hours a day. First, the brainwashing officers pretended to be nice and trick practitioners into "reforming." After 10 days without any success they became very harsh. Labor camp guard Ma Xiaoqin claimed that if practitioners refused to reform, they would be forced to do the heaviest labor and they would never be released.
Since Ms. Zhou refused to be reformed, she was sent back to the labor camp. On July 14, 2002, her original work place took her to a brainwashing center in the Nanyuan Hotel, Shihezi City.
Ms. Zhou was not released even after her sentence was over. They didn't even let her family visit her. She then made a decision: she must escape that evil place and be free.
In the evening on July 31, 2002, Ms. Zhou tied the bed sheet to the window bars and tried to escape from the third floor. Unfortunately, she fell and was injured. She was sent to a hospital in Shihezi with many fractures. The major two were her spine and left foot. She bled a lot, too. In the hospital, doctors installed a metal rod in her left foot and in her spine. She was released home 20 days later. After reading Falun Gong books and doing the exercise, she was healed two months later.
Mr. Zhao Aijun tortured in the labor camp and later escaped
Mr. Zhao was sentenced to three years in a labor camp. He was first jailed in the Wusu Forced Labor Camp in Xinjiang. He was forced to do more than 10 hours of very heavy labor every day. When his sister went to see him he was very skinny and darkly tanned.
In August 2000, all the male practitioners in Xinjiang who were sentenced were gathered in the Changji Forced labor Camp for further persecution. Guards beat them with electric batons and also forced them to do overtime heavy labor, trying to force them to "reform." Mr. Zhao insisted in his belief and solidly refused to "reform." His sentence was extended by four months.
In March 2003 Ms. Zhao was released. The agents at the local police station on Xingfu Road cancelled his household registry, and his original work place fired him. He had to do temporary work for a living. During this time, his original work place assigned somebody to spy on him.
On August 7, 2003, when Mr. Zhao got home from work, policemen from the National Security Group, Xu Ningdong and Song Li, arrested him and took him to the basement of the police station. Later, they searched his house. His wife, Ms. Zhou Haixia, was five months pregnant at that time. The police made a big mess in their house and took away some Falun Gong books and several cassette tapes.
That night, Xu Ningdong handcuffed Mr. Zhao's hands behind his back for two hours. The next morning, around 7:00 a.m., Mr. Zhao climbed over the wall when the policemen were sleeping and escaped. He has been homeless ever since.
Mr. Zhao and Ms. Zhou wanted by the 610 Office and the National Security Group.
The National Security Group agents could not find Mr. Zhao, so they issued a wanted notice and also assigned somebody to spy on his house. His neighbor, Ma Guoqiang, who was also Mr. Zhao's co-worker, was also involved in the persecution. All the phone calls from and to Mr. Zhao's house were tapped.
In December, when Ms. Zhou was in labor in the hospital, the National Security Group officials sent a lot of policemen to the hospital. The female officers put on a doctor's uniform and stayed in Ms. Zhou's room, trying to catch Mr. Zhao. After the baby was born, the police moved into Ms. Zhou's neighbor's house and watched her 24 hours a day. They even spied on her relatives. Since Mr. Zhao was homeless, his wife had to take care of the baby and could not go to work. Her sister supported her. Mr. Zhao never got a chance to see his child until the baby was one year and eight months old.
The 610 Office and the National Security Group never gave up. Every time Ms. Zhou went out somebody spied on her.
In October 2004, the deputy chief of the "610 Office," Xue Yuejin, Guo Tianqiang, and some other officials went to Ms. Zhou's house, asking for information on Mr. Zhao. Xue Yuejin threatened Ms. Zhou in front of her mother. Ms. Zhou then listed all the incidents of persecution that she and other practitioners had endured and blamed the officers present. The police were speechless due to Zhou's righteous mind.
In August 2005 Ms. Zhou made contact with her husband. They got together with their young child in another town.
On February 14, 2006, when walking on the street in Urumqi three police officers arrested Mr. Zhao again. He was jailed in the First Detention Center of Shihezi City. The police didn't inform his family until 10 days later. He was restrained with handcuffs and shackles.
Mr. Zhao has been on a hunger strike to protest. His family has had only one chance to see him since his arrest, and they saw that he was very weak. Police officer Li from the national security bureau threatened his family, saying that they had better not to tell anybody that Mr. Zhao was very weak.
On February 20, policemen posted Mr. Zhao and Ms. Zhou's pictures on the streets in Urumqi in an attempt to also arrest Ms. Zhou as a wanted criminal. Ms. Zhou is now in a very difficult situation with her two-year-old child.
The National Security Group policeman who is in charge of Mr. Zhao's case is Li. His phone number is 86-993-2913241.

Today (the day the article was written) is Chinese New Year's Day 2006, and my family remains broken up.
My family of four was simple and happy. My father is a technical worker. My mother is a human resource person who was later promoted to be the Party secretary in a state-run enterprise. My older sister and I grew up in this peaceful family. We had never thought that our family could be broken apart.
My mother began Falun Gong practice during the 1997 Chinese New Year and obtained Zhuan Falun, the book that teaches people to become good people by practicing "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." From then on my mother became healthy. She also became gentle. Her bad temper left and she became more considerate toward others. My family enjoyed the happiness and peace brought by Falun Gong.
On July 20, 1999, the Chinese Communist Party launched the frenzied persecution against Falun Gong. All of a sudden, rumors and slander blotted out the sky and covered the earth. My mother could not ignore the lies and slander and wrote a letter to the General Office of the Communist Party, describing what Falun Gong was according to her personal experience and stated the facts that practitioners were all good people. While my mother was hoping for a response from the government, what transpired was a talk with representatives from higher authorities and police department officials. These people demanded that she give up her belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" and informed her that "heavy discipline" would be in store for her if her case was approved by the higher authorities.
Due to my mother's good reputation and good personal connections as a result of her long-term sincere, kindhearted, and conscientious attitude at work, the person who had to carry out the task of "heavy discipline" loosened the requirement. He did it perfunctorily, by putting the incident in the record, persuading my mother to practice at home, and drafting a statement for my mother in private. It was over.
But for my mom, she hadn't had her from-the-heart words passed to the right person yet. In the wave of thousands of practitioners going to Beijing and appealing for Falun Gong, hoping to clarify the truth to the government and the population, my mother went to Beijing as well at the end of 2000. However, as soon as she arrived at the Golden River Bridge, a construction site at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, police interrogated and examined her. They demanded she verbally abuse Falun Gong and Teacher. How could a practitioner of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance" do this kind of thing? It went against even basic human morals! Therefore, my mother was arrested and sent to a police station in Beijing.
While the police were changing shifts, with righteous thoughts and the determination to clarify the truth to the world's people, my mother walked out of the police station. She called a taxi and arrived at Tiananmen Square, unfolded her banner and earnestly declared to the world that Falun Dafa is good! The police waiting at Tiananmen Square immediately beat her, arrested her, and sent her to our city's liaison office in Beijing. There she was tortured for several days before being taken back to our city and was then illegally detained for two months in a detention center. Afterwards she was transferred to a brainwashing center. When all this happened, my mother was expelled from the Party, her office was taken, and all her income and savings were frozen.
Around the 2001 Chinese New Year, when every other family was enjoying a reunion and happiness, my mother was in the brainwashing center. To express our family's heartfelt wishes, to uphold justice, and to deny the evildoers' violating human rights, my father, my sister and I decided to have our New Year's eve dinner with my mother at the brainwashing center. Because they thought the emotions would tempt practitioners to give up believing in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance," the authorities allowed family members to enter the brainwashing center. How could they understand that the basis for our decision and our basic morals such as "filial piety, kindness, charity, and love" all come from the great law of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance?"
The Chinese New Year passed, but the authorities' expectations weren't realized. My mother wasn't released, either. In April 2001, all practitioners at the brainwashing center carried out a hunger strike to protest their illegal detention and mental persecution. When my mother had been on the hunger strike for seven or eight days, officials notified my father to take her home. Worrying about my mother's health and safety, my father escorted my mother to her parents in the countryside and arranged for her to live with my aunties. Unexpectedly, the police from in the city drove over 2000 li (about 625 miles) to my mother in the countryside to harass her and demanded that she to report to them periodically, which was equal to house arrest.
In the summer of 2001, my mother came back home to fetch some summer clothes. A few days later, when my mother was washing clothes, the police suddenly arrived and took her to the station. Seven or eight police officers interrogated her for eight days without a break and denied her sleep. The reason: they had found an anonymous truth-clarification letter. Upon investigation they suspected that my mother had written it. Without any findings, the police sent my mother to the detention center although, according to them, they "could not find grounds for a guilty charge." Hence, for the next several months, my mother was transferred between the detention center and the Criminal Police Team. In the end she was kept at the city police department and was interrogated every day. While in the police department, my mother was sentenced to two years in prison. Facing such evil persecution, my mother firmed up her righteous thoughts and managed to escape from the window. She had to become homeless in order to avoid being illegally arrested. At that time, government agents illegally tapped our house phone. No one in the family knew her whereabouts. Our anxious pain was hard to describe.
The 2002 Chinese New Year saw our family coping with the intense pressure of the authorities' blatant threats to catch my mother and worrying about my mother's unpredictable life or death. We couldn't eat or sleep and spent an anxious New Year missing and worrying about our missing family member.
Later on my mother encountered an old classmate, who took her in. Then she was able to contact us, and our worries could finally take a break. Later on, my mother moved to a small city in the countryside near our hometown and rented a place to live with my auntie. My auntie is also a practitioner and was also harassed by the police. This began their life of having a home they could not return to.
To keep the world's people from being deceived any more, my mother and auntie did their best to clarify the truth by telling people face-to-face or distributing truth-clarification materials.
After the New Year my sister and I each landed a job. Worrying about my mother's safety and living environment, my father took my mother with him and lived where he works. In the new and strange environment, my mother still put Falun Gong as the first priority. Compassionate to people, my mother kept clarifying the truth and rescuing sentient beings. Not able to have contact with fellow practitioners and being short of truth-clarification materials, she clarified the truth by telling people and writing the truth on walls. One day in the fall, when my mother went out to make truth-clarification materials, the police arrested her and ransacked my father's place.
Hearing the bad news, my elderly maternal grandparents wanted to see their daughter, no matter how far they were apart. In prison, my mother knew that the evildoers would torment her parents with sentiments and trick them to persuade her to give up her belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." After long-term physical and mental torture such as being deprived of sleep and extensive brainwashing, my mother's appearance had changed a lot. If my grandparents saw her, it would be a blow to them.
After my maternal grandparents had overcome innumerable hardships, they finally arrived at the prison, only to discover that the authorities had changed their minds. They used more cruel tactics to torment my mother and my grandparents by not allowing her to meet my grandparents unless she gave up practicing Falun Gong. They were so sinister; they completely ignored good faith and human life. It was a very heavy blow to my grandparents. There is no way to describe their deep, worrying pain at not being able to see their daughter with whom they were so close.
My maternal grandfather passed away four months after returning home from that brutal blow, without seeing his daughter for the last time. Luckily my maternal grandmother had begun learning Falun Gong and understood the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance," and therefore was able to sustain herself, even through the huge pain of losing both her daughter and her husband, with a strong heart.
As of today, Chinese New Year 2006, my family has been persecuted so that my old maternal grandfather is now dead and my mother is serving five years in prison. I don't know how many days and nights I have to live through without seeing my mother again. I don't know when my shattered family will ever be reunited.
This is what the Chinese Communist Party's evil persecution has done to my family. And this is the reality of human rights in China, despite the fact that Jiang's group claims it is the best human rights period for China. However intense the evil, it cannot subdue goodness. No matter how wicked the lie, it cannot hide the light of truth. Jiang clamored for the elimination of Falun Gong in three months, but six years have passed. Falun Gong practitioners are still all over China. People in more than 80 countries are practicing Falun Gong. And in many countries, Falun Gong practitioners are filing genocide lawsuits again murderers from Jiang's gang.
Life needs "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." The world needs
peace and stability. I appeal to kindhearted people to reach out a
helping hand,
to face up to, and to stop this bloody persecution.

Falun Gong practitioner Song Yanqun, an English teacher from Dade Japanese School in Harbin City was illegally sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment because she continued practicing Falun Gong. She is currently detained in Heizuizi Women's Prison. Not long ago, her parents went there to visit her. They saw that their daughter had tuberculosis and was so slim that her bones protruded. She was so weak that it was difficult to talk. Even so, she was still detained in the small cell and was tortured there. Having seen their daughter in this condition, for the two old people, it felt as if a knife was twisting in their hearts.
Ms. Song Yanqun, 34, was from Sulan City, Jilin Province. She was arrested by a group of policemen headed by Li Jiazhe from Sulan City Police Department on November 27, 2003. During the illegal trial, the chief of the Sulan City Police Department, Xin He, colluded with policemen Li Zhuo, Li Yaochen, Li Jiazhe, and Wang Tingbo, to hire a group from a gang to cruelly torture Song Yanqun and her sister, Song Bing, at Nanshan Detention Center in Sulan City. They tortured them using the tiger bench, pricked their ears and eyes with a very long and slim object, and poured in mustard oil, etc. Later, Song Yanqun was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment and was sent to Heizuizhi Women's Prison in Changchun City.
In the prison, Song Yanqun's health status was not good. After being examined, she was diagnosed with serious pulmonary tuberculosis. Both lobes of her lungs showed granular disease spots. (A guard said later by accident). The prison hospital and the prison blocked the news, prohibiting the family from knowing the true health status of Song Yanqun, and treatment was also denied. The prison guards did not allow the prison hospital to handle her with care, so she received rough treatment. The president of the prison hospital also said, "The monthly budget of our hospital is just 8 yuan per patient."
In May 2005, the Heizuizi Women's Prison started another round of "transformation." Song Yanqun was transferred to the education group from the hospital and suffered violent "transformation." Because Song Yanqun refused to cooperate, the policemen tied her in the "death bed." Her feces and urine were left to accumulate for days.
On March 6, 2006, Song Yanqun's parents went to Heizuizi Women's Prison to visit their daughter. The phone in the visitor's office was not working properly and had a lot of static interference. The guard was monitoring all the time, making her mother, who is hard of hearing so worried that she could not talk. Only her father said a few words with his daughter.
Song Yanqun was pale and slim. Her voice was very weak and it appeared that she could not stand even for a few minutes. Her face had butterfly spots due to the tuberculosis. The father asked her, "Are you detained in the small cell again?" She replied, "They don't allow me to say anything in the prison." When her father asked her about the disease, the guard that was monitoring them said before Song Yanqun had a chance to talk, "She is well. She was diagnosed by a specialist from a famous hospital with an autonomic nerve disorder due to pain from her ribs." People who have some medical sense all know that he was lying. After this, the guard grabbed the speaker, claimed that the time was up, and sent Song Yanqun away in a hurry. Their conversation was less than ten minutes.
Song Yanqun's parents saw that Song Yanqun was so slim and was only skin and bones. She was too weak to stand a gust of wind and was still tortured in the small cell. Her parents feel like a knife is twisting in their hearts.

Thus, Wu Qingyun had to leave her home and was forced to be homeless in order to avoid arrest and persecution. On January 26, 2006, Ms. Wu's son found his mother dead at her temporary residence.
