  • 18-Year-Old Girl Sentenced to Three years in Prison for Appealing for Her Father

The young girl's name is Zhu Xiuyun from Aobao Village, Hujietumo Town, Taikang County, Daqing City. She was working outside of her hometown and heard news that her father, practitioner Mr. Zhu Yanghe, was arrested, and sentenced to prison and that her home was raided. She could not understand why all of this took place.

    18-year-old girl Zhu Xiuyun

Xiuyun knows that her father is a simple farmer. After years of hard labor in the field, he had developed many ailments. He had problems with his kidneys and stomach. He suffered enormously from his illnesses, and his family suffered the financial burden of his treatment on an already a meager income. After he began practicing Falun Gong, all of his illnesses went away. He abides by the principle of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance," and thinks of others ahead of himself. He was well respected and liked by those who know him, so why was a good person like this arrested?

After her father was arrested, the whole village was furious. When the villagers found out that the CCP was harvesting Falun Gong practitioners' organs for profit, they were even more worried. Over 200 villagers signed a petition to appeal for her father's freedom. On August 19, 2006, Zhu Xiuyun went to the county courthouse with an appeal letter. The courthouse contacted the head of the county 610 Office, Li Shilin, who called the county police station. Over ten police officers showed up and arrested the young girl without any documentation or just cause.

When Zhu Xiuyun's mother found out that her daughter was missing, she looked for her for days. After she found out that her daughter had been illegally arrested by the police, she went to the County Government Office, the People's Representative Office, and the Political Legal Bureau to ask to see her child. Tang Huaijun from the Political Legal Bureau told her that her child had broken the law because she accused Li Shilin of abusing his power. Her family then realized that Zhu Xiuyun was being illegally detained and held in a county detention center.

Zhu Xiuyun's 70-year-old grandfather and grandmother were extremely worried after they heard the news. They went to the county to see their grandchild and were detained for two days.

Li Shilin, the head of the 610 Office, is a local bully. His brother, Li Shiyu, is the director of the Hujietumo Town Police Station, Taikang County. Over the years, he has abused his power and committed all sorts of crimes. He was accused of seizing a gas truck, fining the truck driver, and selling the gas for his own profit. When he was building his house, it was said that he stole other people's bags of straw for his own use. In order to deceive the public to cover up his actions, he had his father-in-law bury the bags in a ditch. His father-in-law did not understand, so instead he put all the bags on the ground to dry out. Li was furious at his father-in-law and kicked him out the door. Because Li persecuted Falun Gong practitioners and gained a reputation for being cruel, he became the head of the county 610 Office.

Under the manipulation and instigation of Li Shilin, teenager Zhu Xiuyun was arrested and detained and sentenced to three years in Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison.

Authorities of Laiyang, Shandong Province Viciously Persecute Practitioner Mr. Gai Guangqi

Mr. Gai Guangqi is a 56-year-old Falun Gong practitioner in Laiyang, Shandong Province. After becoming a practitioner, his health improved and his spirit was uplifted. After the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) began persecuting Falun Gong, Mr. Gai went many times to appeal in Beijing, speaking out in support of Falun Gong. As a result, he has been detained, suffered extortion and torture many times at the hands of local authorities, suffered three years of forced labor, endured brainwashing and more.

Tortured with an Extra Large, High-voltage Electric Baton

One night in October 1999, Zhang Shaohua and Liu Jingtao from Lanzi Village Police Station led a group of policemen and broke into Mr. Gai's home. They took him and another practitioner to the police station and then took most of the people who had learned Falun Gong in the village to the village government building and questioned them one by one. They asked, "Are you still practicing?" The people that answered that they were not practicing were immediately sent home. Those that said they were practicing were not allowed to go home. Mr. Gai and over ten practitioners boldly declared that they were indeed still practicing. The policemen handcuffed Mr. Gai to a big tree in the yard, but because the tree was too thick, it was difficult to close the handcuffs, so they forced them shut. While the handcuffs were cutting deep into Mr. Gai's flesh, the police went to eat at a restaurant. For more than two hours Gai Guangqi sweat profusely and almost passed out. The village cadres smiled sinisterly and asked, "Are you still practicing?" He still answered, "Yes!" At night, they locked him up in the county detention center.

In the detention center, Mr. Gai practiced the exercises. When the prisoners went to do aerobic exercises, he meditated in the room. A police officer discovered what he was doing and put a high voltage electric baton through the door hole to shock his fingers while he sat in meditation with his arms extended on either side. Mr. Gai did not move. The surprised policeman returned to office and said to other policemen, "The Falun Gong in cell No. 8 is so strong. I tortured his fingers with an electric baton, and he did not care." Police officer Yang said, "That's because your electric baton is not powerful. Watch how I fix him tomorrow."

At noon the next day, officer Yang took an especially long, high-voltage electric baton and pointed it at Mr. Gai, who was in the yard. He then asked, "Are you Falun Gong?" Mr. Gai smiled and said, "Yes!" Yang demanded, "Show me the practice." Mr. Gai replied, "Okay. Watch!" Then he began to do the first set of exercises "Buddha Showing a Thousand Hands." Everyone watched: the staff came out to watch and the prisoners in their cells also watched through windows or doors. Mr. Gai was halfway through when Yang said, "Stop!" Mr. Gai thought: "How can I listen to you? You asked me to do the exercises so I am doing the exercises. Then you say stop? I need to finish the first set of exercises."

After Mr. Gai finished the first set, Yang ordered prisoners standing nearby, "Bring him here!" Immediately three to four prisoners came, twisted his hands, pulled his hair, and pushed him into a big iron gate. From behind his back Yang pulled out the large electric baton, which was emitting a blue flame, and extended it straight towards Mr. Gai's face. Gai Guangqi closed his eyes.

The large electric baton moved from his face to his neck and back again, but he did not make a sound! Yang was unable to get out of an awkward situation, so he put the electric baton into Mr. Gai's mouth, but it still had no effect.

In front of everyone, policeman Yang brandished a 70 to 80 centimeter long electric baton, fiercely beating Gai Guangqi's shoulders and arms with it while berating him. A policeman watching said, "Easy. Don't break the electric baton." Yang continued to shock Mr. Gai on the head, face, neck, mouth and other places, and hit him with hit him with it as well. It lasted nearly an hour. Gai Guangqi made no noise at all. Yang then shouted angrily, "Go back and clean the floor for me."

Mr. Gai immediately went back to clean the floor. Suddenly four to five strong men came in, kicked him, making him fall to the ground, and dragged him to the corridor. They fiercely kicked and stomped on him, and when he had almost passed out they dragged him to the No. 2 cell and tied him to the "Dead Person's Bed." His hands, arms and legs were tightly bound with iron chains and he could not move. He was not allowed to use the toilet. The police ordered other prisoners to beat him with hard shoes continuously, until they forced him to say "I am not practicing" against his will.

Beaten with Shoes Until Blood Gushed from His Mouth

In February 2000, Mr. Gai went to Beijing to validate Falun Gong for a second time. He and two other practitioners were going to hang a banner that read, "Falun Dafa is Good" on a rostrum in Tiananmen Square. He went up to check the terrain first, but because he was wearing a Falun Gong badge, he was taken by the police to a Beijing sub-bureau, and questioned about where he was from. He refused to give his name or address, so the police tortured him in many ways including handcuffing him behind his back, forcing his head to touch the ground and forcing him to raise both arms for a long time without moving, but he still refused to give them any information.

Because of his accent, he was thought to be from Jiaodong. At night, a group from Zhaoyuan City said, "Hand him to us. We would rather take him by mistake then let him go." They forced him into the rear of car for over 80 kilometers. Because of the dust and the muggy air he felt like he was suffocating. They took Mr. Gai to a residence, cuffed his hands to a heating pipe, and began to torture him. One person slashed his face while cursing him. After quite a while, this person got tired, took a rest on a sofa, and then used a leather shoe to slap Mr. Gai's face, ears, nose and mouth with all his strength. Blood gushed from his mouth. After more than an hour of the beating, he was a disfigured, his face covered with bruises and blood. The police still did not get any information from him.

The authorities called the Laiyang Office in Beijing and said,, "We have a Falun Gong here, and no matter how we torture him, he says nothing. From his accent, he is probably from your area." The police from Laiyang came and recognized Gai Guangqi. They immediately took him to the Laiyang Office in Beijing. A CCP official asked, "Gai Guangqi, will you return to Beijing?" He answered, "As long as Falun Gong is being slandered and persecuted, I will go!" The other person forced him to squat on the ground, lower his head and not look up, then fiercely attacked his head with the sole of his shoe while asking, "Go or not? Go or not?" Gai Guangqi answered, "Go! Go! Go!" Each response more powerful than the last.

At last, the person fiercely chopped at the back of Mr. Gai's head with something. Everything before his eyes turned black, and he let out an astonishing and pitiful yell which frightened them and they hurriedly asked, "How are you? Are you sick?" He quickly replied: "I am a Falun Gong practitioner, I am not sick. What did you hit me with?" That person said, "You are not ill now, and you were not ill before?" Gai Guangqi replied: "Before I practiced Falun Gong, I was not only ill, but suffered from many diseases." "What diseases?" "I had pleurisy when I was young; suppuration turned to fluid in my abdomen in the later period, and I nearly died. When I was 45, while helping a neighbor carry a large pig, I hurt my side and dislocated a bone in my back and nearly became disabled. The pain recurred twice a year and grew more and more severe, leading to symptoms of paralysis. I was lucky to learn Falun Gong and fully recover." The officials then said, "Ok, no need to say more. We'll go back to tidy you up!"

That night, on the train going back, Gai Guangqi successfully escaped. With no money, he begged for food on his way to Beijing for the third time.

A Policeman Smashed a Stool on His Shoulder

In April 2000, while Mr. Gai Guangqi was sharing experiences with some practitioners in Tangezhuang Town, he was reported and taken to the local police station. At night, Yu Hongwen, the former Lanzi Village Politics and Judiciary Committee member, led a group of people to handcuff Mr. Gai to a heating pipe, so that he could neither squat nor stand upright. Then Yu Hongwen punched him in the head, his face, and neck and kicked his chest and ribs while cursing at him. The dirty words were revolting to the ear. He beat Gai Guangqi for almost an hour, until the blood flowed freely and was on his last breath.

When day broke the next morning, they sent Gai Guangqi to the County Detention Center for further persecution. He refused to cooperate, sign his name, or be fingerprinted. He did not eat food or drink water to protest the persecution. On the morning of the seventh day, Laiyang City 610 Office agent Liu Kai and another police officer interrogated Mr. Gai. Liu at first in soft tones said, "You do not eat or drink. If you damage your body, whom do you suffer for? You can still be healthy by practicing another qigong. Why must you practice Falun Gong? Let it go!"

Gai Guangqi replied, "Even if you threaten to cut off my head , I only want 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.' You have captured me, one person, but there are many more! Will I give up Falun Gong? No way!" Then, the other police officer barked, "I will bury you alive!" Mr. Gai said, "I wouldn't practice Falun Gong if I feared death!" The police officer in a violent rage, grabbed a broken chair and smashed it on Gai Guangqi's shoulder. Then, as he raised the stool to smash it over Gai Guangqi's head, the broken stool and its legs fell to the ground.

Mr. Gai was detained for over a month, and then officials from the Laiyang 610 Office transferred him to a brainwashing center in Chengnan Village for over 40 days. During that period, Yu Hongwen and village official Chi from Lanzi Village came to beat Gai Guangqi three times. Each time before they left, they said, "Make efforts to practice and I'll come to beat you when I have time!"

Over 40 days later, Gai Guangqi still refused to give up the practice. He was taken back to a small storehouse in the Lanzi Village government yard, handcuffed to a chair, and his clothes were pulled off. Yu Hongwen and Li Xiaodong whipped Gai Guangqi with a rubber tube and wooden clubs in turn. His back, buttocks and legs were covered with bruises, and stayed blue and purple for a long time. They tortured him for an afternoon and stopped only when they were tired.

They only gave him two steamed buns and a few pickled vegetables each meal during this period. Finally, Party Committee Associate Secretary Li Xiaodong and Yu Hongwen threatened Gai Guangqi's family. They ordered the family to pay 5,000 yuan to have him released! In the face of the village government's verbal threats, his family felt they had no choice and gave them 2,000 yuan. They had borrow the other 3,000 yuan from relatives. Only then was Gai Guangqi released.

Taken to a Forced Labor Camp and Brainwashing Center

In October 2000, while Gai Guangqi was on the way back from shopping, police from Lanzi Village Police Station stopped him at the Lanzi Village Cement Factory, kicked him to the ground, handcuffed him, took him to the police station, and beat him. Mr. Gai asked, "Why do you illegally seize people?" Manager Zhang Shaohua threw a stack of flyers on the ground and said, "Look, this is evidence!" Before Mr. Gai could respond, they closed the door and left, and sent him to the county detention center that afternoon for further persecution. Around midnight ten days later, they sent Mr. Gai and three other practitioners to Wangcun Forced Labor Camp in Shandong for three years of forced labor, without any legal procedures.

On March 2, 2005, Mr. Gai Guangqi and his wife were having lunch at home. Laiyang City 610 Office agents colluded with Li Tong from Jiangtuan Town Police Station. They took Gai Guangqi from his home to Laiyang Party School Brainwashing Center on the pretext of "talking to him" and held him there for 47 days. He went on a hunger strike to protest the arrest.  Mr. Gai escaped from the brainwashing center at 9:10 a.m. on March 8, 2005.

The Tortures Practitioners Have Been Subjected to at Duyun Prison in Guizhou Province

    1. Methods of Torture Used May to September 2004

In their attempt to force Falun Gong practitioners to give up their belief, the officers at Duyun Prison in Guizhou Province use all kinds of torture methods to torment and brutalize them. They have given these methods nicknames and compiled an assortment of tortures into what they call a "menu."

"Biscuit with Filling" A prisoner smashes a practitioner's back with his elbows while others strike the victim's chest with their knees.

"Stir-Fry Kidney" One or two prisoners raise the practitioner's arms and strike at the waist and kidney area with their elbows until the victim vomits blood.

"Kungpao Chicken" Prisoners lift the practitioners up and punch them in the chest.

"Stabilizing Pill" Shove the practitioner against a wall and punch him in the chest.

"Washing the Ears" Prisoners standing behind the practitioner pinch the base of the ears.

"Knock on the Walnut" Prisoners use their knuckles to rap the practitioner's head.

"Relaxing the Big Muscle" Prisoners use their fists, elbows or feet to strike at the practitioner's thighs.

"Stir-Fry Liver" Prisoners strike the practitioner's back with their elbows.

"Two-in-One" Two prisoners pull the practitioner's arms into the shape of a cross and then kick the practitioner's back and chest simultaneously. When they don't have enough people to do it, they just kick the practitioner in the back.

"Flat Shoot" Prisoners spread the practitioner's arms, hold him or her against the wall, and fiercely kick the chest.

"Pulling up the Sapling" Prisoners spread the practitioner's arms while another prisoner hooks the practitioner's neck and kicks him in the chest.

"Eating Garlic" A prisoner lifts a practitioner's chin with his thumbs and forces the mouth and nose closed, cutting off the practitioner's air.

"Plucking Chicken Wings" The practitioner's hands are cuffed behind the back and then he's hung from bunk beds, or the arms are stretched and cuffed between bunk beds.

    2. Methods of Torture Used Between October 2004 and March 2, 2006

    1. Knees struck with rubberized wooden clubs; the torture is applied at intervals, causing constant swelling.
    2. Boiling water and cigarette butts are used to burn the skin on the arms or other parts of the body.
    3. Practitioners are forced to sit on small stools without moving from morning till night; the practitioners are beaten if they move.
    4. Many prisoners are kept on duty in shifts, interfering with practitioners' rest or preventing them from sleeping altogether.
    5. A practitioner's wrists are cuffed to a bed in the shape of a cross, all the windows and doors are closed, and DVDs that slander and defame Falun Gong are played with the volume turned up all the way.
    6. Practitioners are prevented from using the toilet or forced to stop going before they finish, causing kidney problems.
    7. Practitioners are shocked with electric batons on the face and neck until the smell of burnt flesh fills the room.
    8. Electric batons are used to force practitioners to watch TV from two centimeters away.
    9. Guards wrote on practitioners' clothes and made a tall pointy paper hat for practitioner Xu Shiwen with words written on it defaming Master Li and Falun Gong.
    10. Guards wrote Master Li's name on pieces of paper that were put in practitioners' shoes while they slept.
    11. Practitioners were forced to live in close confinement for long periods of time and forced to observe imaginary borders near the windows and doors. They weren't given enough food and were only allowed to buy essential toiletry items from the commissary and nothing else. (Used between October 2004 and 2005)
    12. Practitioners are bound with ropes at the ankle and hung from the bunks.
    13. Newly confined practitioners were beaten as a demonstration of the guards' authority.
    14. Officers threatened practitioners with statements like: "You must "transform", and if you don't we'll stomp you to death."
    15. Guards glued thick white paper over the doors and windows or covered them with cloth so that no one could see what went on inside, allowing the officers to do whatever they wanted unobserved.
    16. Guards set up prisoner "transformation" classes and subjected practitioners to brainwashing.
    17. Guards forbade practitioners from speaking to each other.

    3. Two Additional Tortures

"Noise Therapeutics" Practitioners were cuffed by their wrists and ankles to a bed with their limbs outstretched, and speakers were placed on each side of their heads and played at the maximum volume, or prisoners shouted through megaphones directly into the practitioners' ears. Cao Jun, Yu Hongbing, and Yi Siheng were among those who suffered this torture.

"Bacteriotherapy" A prisoner mixed a tuberculosis patient's phlegm into the practitioners' food, and five people were infected with pulmonary tuberculosis (Wang Shougui, Zhou Shunzhi, Hu Dali, Song Binbin and Yang Xiumin).

    4. Beatings

    1. On May 5, 2003, after Mr. Wang Shouming refused to give up his belief, Yu Wenli, the head of the Shaocheng Prison Area, stomped his genitals twice and then dragged him to the office, beat him with a rubber club until his face was bruised and swollen, and finally forced him to renounce his beliefs.
    2. From March 10 until April 8, 2004, Wang Huachuan, chief of the Education Section, was so angry and ashamed for failing to "transform" practitioner Ms. Wang Meihua that he slapped her face repeatedly.

    5. Evidence of Crimes (1)

    1. Beginning February 9, prior to a 40-day "transformation" campaign that lasted from February 24 to April 5, 2003, Zang Dongsheng, Zhu Xinbi and Bao Jianwei were subjected to brainwash; they were subjected to beatings and sleep deprivation for more than ten days. All of the practitioners resisted the persecution by writing letters to the warden and clarifying the truth to the guards.
    2. Eight or nine prisoners took turns preventing Mr. Li Lin from sleeping for five days and nights. Mr. Li was hospitalized after they smashed his head against the wall to force him to "transform."
    3. Four pairs of handcuffs and one pair of foot shackles were used to restrain Mr. Yi Siheng to a wood block bed with the mattress removed in a confinement room. Wang Huachuan personally put the handcuffs on him. Mr. Yi conducted a hunger strike in protest. The weather was very cold, and the small cell was cold and damp. After more than 20 days, Mr. Yi was paralyzed by the cold; he couldn't even move his eyeballs. Only then was he taken to the prison hospital.
    4. From August 2003 to March 2004, the prison kept all of the practitioners in Prison Area 1 because the prisoners there were willing to do whatever the officers asked of them. They held Wang Meihua in solitary confinement for 15 days and then in strict discipline for three months. They kept Zhang Shougang, Zang Dongsheng, Zhu Xingbi, Mo Qi, Chen Zhongquan in confinement for 45 days, Lin Jian for 15 days and Xu Shiwen twice for more than 20 days.
    5. From March 10 to April 8, 2004, Ma Tianjun, Chen Zhongquan, Wang Meihua and Zang Dongsheng tore cartoons that slandered Falun Gong off the walls, for which they were tortured with electric batons by deputy area head Zhong Shan, until the flesh on their faces and necks was burned. They were cuffed to their beds in the shape of a cross and forced to watch videos that slander Falun Gong for nearly 40 days. Ma Tianjun was held in solitary confinement.
    6. Starting on March 15, 2004, the following practitioners were cuffed to their beds in the shape of a cross and forced to wear criminal identity cards: Xu Shiwen (for more than 20 days), 61-year-old Zhang Shougang (seven days), Shi Dengling (seven days), Zhao Echuan (six days), Zhou Hengyuan (40 days), and Mo Qi (four days).
    7. For 70 days from May to August 2003 Shi Dengling was held in an isolation cell.
    8. From May 20 to September 20, 2004, prison and 610 Office personnel formed a "transformation" persecution team. Yu Wenlin (Yu is extremely vicious and has developed many persecution methods) was the team leader and set "transformation" goals for each prison area. Yu demanded results with no regard for the safety of the practitioners. The leaders of each prison area selected the most vicious prisoners to join the "transformation" persecution team, especially the prisoners of Area 3 and 4. Shaocheng Area and Shipping Area exchanged information and selected prisoners who had been convicted of violent crimes as many as five times. They employed many of the above mentioned torture methods. The prison rewarded the criminals who participated by excusing them from work. Those who "transformed" one practitioner would receive a single merit and a three-month sentence reduction. Practitioners who couldn't be "transformed" in other prison areas were transferred to Prison Area 4 because the prisoners there were selected from a group of 400 for their propensity for violence and willingness to participate in the persecution. Area head Zheng Jiajun and deputy head Zhong Shan were especially cruel.

They detained practitioners in four prison areas and focused on Prison Area 4. Their assignments were: Prison Area 1: Ma Tianjun, Yang Maojun; Prison Area 2: Tang Runchun, Du Guilin; Prison Area 3: Mo Qi, Wang Guojue, Xu Shiwen; Construction Area: Zheng Gang, Zhou Shunzhong; Shipping Area: Chen Zhongquan, Shi Dengling; Production Area: Xiao Zhifei, Zhao Echuan, Zang Dongsheng; Baking Production Area: Wang Meihua, Mei Guinan; Prison Area 4: the rest of the practitioners.

    1. From October 2004 to March 2, 2006, practitioners from each prison area who didn't "transform" were eventually returned to their original areas for further persecution. Starting in June 2005, they tried to "transform" Xiao Zhifei, Ma Tianjun, and Yang Maojun with the help of collaborators Yu Hongbing and Zhou Kuangjian. The following events occurred during this time:
    1. On August 9 at 4 a.m., Mr. Wu Guozhong (this may be a fake name given by police), a 71-year-old resident of Anshun, died from persecution in Prison Area 8. Area head Zheng Jiajun and clerk Ying Xu carried him to the hospital, where he was given an IV, and then they carried him out of the prison. Though he was already dead, they pretended to give him emergency medical treatment. His mattress was soaked with blood.
    2. On the night of August 2, newcomer Mr.. Wang Limeng was violently beaten by four or five prisoners. Wang Limeng's mouth was stuffed with socks and his face was bruised and swollen.
    3. Practitioners Li Lin, Zheng Gang, Wang Xiaodong, Wang Limeng, Yang Xiumin, Yao Junjing, Liu Shukang, and Chen Zhef were beaten many times.
    4. d. In a blind corner on the second floor, Ma Tianjun, Chen Zhongquan, Xiao Zhifei, Wang Limeng, Tang Runchun, Lin Yuzhong, and newly jailed practitioners are still being persecuted. (Xiao Zhifei nearly gave up his belief in August and made some mistakes, but is now awakened).

    6. Evidence of Crimes (2) (May 20, 2004 to September)

A police officer ordered prisoners to beat practitioners. Education section officer Wen Yong failed to "transform" Ms. Wang Meihua from May 25 to the end of June 2004 and angrily ordered prisoner Wang Wupeng, who worked on prisoner records in Shaocheng Prison to "torture her to death and clean her up." Prisoner Wang Wupeng viciously slapped Ms. Wang Meihua's face and prisoner Xiong Qianli hit her with a shoe. Prisoner Li Xianyou put his knee on Ms. Wang's back to hold her down and force-fed her with boiling water. Prisoner Ke Xing suggested that they use drugs to destroy Ms. Wang's will. Seven prisoners took turns talking to her and wouldn't let her rest, use the toilet, or sleep. Ms. Wang was forcibly "transformed" and contracted tuberculosis, which spread to her chest cavity, heart, and lumbar vertebra. After four months, she was extremely weak. Mei Guinan encountered the same suffering.

Mr. Wang Guojue was tortured by prisoners Chen Yuanlong, Zhang Shihong and Qin Zhaoxi of Prison Area 3 with the "Two-in-One," "Eating Garlic," "Knocking on a Walnut," "Washing the Ears," and the "Stir-Fry Kidney" methods from July 10 to the end of the month. When Mr. Wang Guojue used the toilet, three prisoners shoved him to the ground and stepped on his chest and stomach. They deprived him of sleep for a long time and forced him to give up Falun Gong.

    1. From the end of July to early September, Mr. Xu Shiwen was tortured and persecuted by Chen Yuanlong, Zhang Shihong and Qin Zhaoxi of Prison Area 3. As a result, Mr. Xu vomited blood, food and a clear liquid. He conducted a hunger strike to protest. They pried Mr. Xu 's mouth open with chopsticks for force-feeding. The three prisoners even put their genitals on Mr. Xu's mouth, head and neck. His mouth was injured and he couldn't bear it. He was forced to give up Falun Gong.
    2. Shipping Area deputy head Liu Shimin failed to transform Mr. Chen Zhongquan, so starting on May 20 he had prisoners Chen Yuanlong and Zhang Shihong torture him with the above mentioned methods. They wouldn't allow Mr. Chen to close his eyes for several days and nights, forced him to stand facing the wall, and tied him to the bed during his two hours of sleep. Mr. Chen's entire body was bruised, and his feet were severely swollen.
    3. Shi Dengling was cruelly beaten on the orders of Shipping Area head Yu Xinzhong, and wasn't allowed to move while sitting. On July 15, 2004 Shi Dengling was covered with blood from a beating and sent to the hospital for a month for emergency treatment.
    4. Mr. Zhang Shougang (61 years old) was hospitalized from persecution on May 22. Young prisoners in their 20s assigned to supervise him had beaten him for three months. The prisoners told Wang Jianjun, deputy chief of the Education Section, that they were shorthanded, so they had to do it. (Prison Area 4)
    5. Mr. Huang Lei was hit in the knees with wooden clubs by "supervising" prisoners in Prison Area 4, causing his knees to swell up. He wasn't allowed to sleep and was forced to "transform" after a month.
    6. Between June 16, 2004 and the 2005 Chinese New Year, Mr. Wang Xiaodong of Prison Area 4 was forced to stand by a brick wall without moving every day until as late as 4 a.m.. When he fainted, the prisoners poured cold water on him. In the winter, he was forced to shower every three days. The prisoners would burn him with hot water and then rinse him with cold water. After he rinsed the soap off and got ready to dress, the prisoners would torment him by soaping him up again. When he went back to the cell, they would open all the windows and pour cold water on the floor and turn the fan on. Disgustingly, they frequently broke wind toward his mouth.
    7. Mr. Mo Qi's hands were cuffed behind his back and he was hung from bunk beds. Du Guilin was handcuffed to the bed. Clerk Wang Shijun and some prisoners beat Tang Taiguo.

    7. The Prison Examination Section Colluded with Duyun Prison

When practitioners wrote to the warden, the procurator, and the court to complain, one section chief told a practitioner, "If you want justice, wait till he dies." Wang Huachuan said, "You've caused a serious international incident, and you should be killed." Zhong Shan, deputy head of Prison Area 4, said, "If you sue the prison, you're suing me."

After current Education Section Chief Wang Huachuan's cruel torture tactics were exposed, he said in an assembly, "Duyun Prison has been smeared for persecuting Falun Gong." Then he said to a fanfare of applause, "We must fight Falun Gong till the end!" Under his leadership, the prison officials carried out many campaigns against Falun Gong practitioners and used every perverse method they could come up with. "Dragon in China" came to conduct interviews and invited everyone to attend. Before I left, they conducted most of the persecution in a blind corner on the 2nd floor. Long term sleep deprivation and sitting on the Tiger Bench were their favorite methods of persecution. There are nine people on the 2nd floor and eleven people on the 4th floor at the moment; the other "transformed" practitioners are all on the 3rd floor.

Currently they are redecorating the area around the blind corner on the second floor. After reading about the organ harvesting from living practitioners in Sujiatun, I remembered that some supervising prisoners said they wanted to transfer practitioners from the north to Duyun Prison, so I made a sketch of the floor plan of the prison. Wang Huachuan is the current head of Prison Area 4, and Zhong Shan is the deputy head.

Retirees from Tsinghua University Sent to Forced Labor Camp; Daughter in US Pleads for Their Release

Falun Gong practitioners 63-year-old Mr. Fu Yong'an and 63-year-old Ms. Liu Xianglan, both retirees from Tsinghua University in the Haidian District of Beijing, were illegally sentenced to forced labor camps for two years.

Ms. Liu's family members were allowed to meet with her for the first time on September 11, 2006, after she had been detained for six months. The family met with Mr. Fu once at the end of July 2006. According to the family, Mr. Fu and Ms. Liu are both now very thin. From their conversations with the couple, the family learned that the conditions at Qinghe Detention Center are very bad.

Their daughter, Fu Chen, who is now pursuing her Master's degree at the University of Texas, said: "My parents were abducted from our home by more than ten policemen in March 2006. They were then detained at Qinghe Detention Center in the Haidian District. The police said that they had visited some websites that are forbidden by the government. While they were in detention, they were not allowed to meet with their family members. Now my parents, who are both over 60, have been sent to forced labor camps!"

Mr. Fu Yong'an and Ms. Liu Xianglan were arrested from their own home on March 19, 2006, and were sent to Qinghe Detention Center in Beijing after about one week. At the end of May, they both were sent to forced labor camps. The "reason" was that 61 items related to Falun Gong were found in their home. On July 12, 2006, Mr. Fu was sent to Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp in Daxing County, Beijing; Ms. Liu was sent to Beijing Women's Forced Labor Camp.

During the "Literature Revolution" originated by the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), Mr. Fu and Ms. Liu were both sent to Jiangxi Farm to work. As a result, they contracted schistosomiasis. After they returned to Beijing, they received some "experimental treatment," but Ms. Liu became even sicker, and her nervous system was also affected. Mr. Fu suffered from gallstones. After they started to practice Falun Gong in September 1995, they both experienced dramatically improved health. Mr. Fu's gallstones disappeared, and Ms. Liu also recovered from her illnesses. Since the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, local policemen detained them many times on so-called sensitive dates.

This year, the Haidian Branch of Beijing City Police Department made a concerted effort to arrest Falun Gong practitioners. According to incomplete statistics, at least 60 practitioners were arrested. When the Haidian Branch officers made the arrests, they did not show any legal documentation and did not inform family members of the victims afterwards. They did not show the practitioners or their family members a list of confiscated items after they ransacked their homes. The arrested practitioners were either without information about where they were, were illegally sent to forced labor camps, or were threatened with long-term prison sentences before any legal procedures had been attempted.

Concerned for her parents' safety, Ms. Fu Chen said: "I am really worried about them and hope more people can help. I have asked the CCP to release my parents. They are innocent and are being persecuted for no reason."

The Persecution in the 9th Ward of Harbin City Women's Prison

Since 2002, officials in the 9th Ward of Harbin City Women's Prison have persecuted good people who practice "Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance."

Since 2004, this prison has been called the '"reform" base.' A group of big, muscular inmates headed by Qi Chunyan and directed by guard Jia Jiaojun has been established for the sole purpose of torturing practitioners. These inmates and guards have been particularly vicious. They have verbally abused and beaten the practitioners. They have deprived them of sleep and forbidden them to have a shower or change clothes.

They brainwash the practitioners under duress. Starting in the spring of 2002, they dictated that the practitioners who refused to renounce Falun Gong have to walk all the time, from spring to winter. In 2003, the different teams dragged outside female practitioners who refused to cooperate. Then male guards would torture them. They used whips and electric batons against the practitioners, in addition to punching and kicking them. In winter, they make the practitioners go outside and stay there for several days in a row. The practitioners are also forced to lie on their stomaches on piles of excrement. Some practitioners' feet and hands have become frostbitten.

The Falun Gong practitioners have been gagged with dirty socks and had toothpicks inserted underneath their fingernails. They have also been hung onto be dframes for long periods of time, locked inside storage rooms for a month at a time, and forced to sleep in bathrooms for days at a time. Sometimes practitioners have been hung up for seven or eight days in a row. Some have lost consciousness or almost become crippled. Almost every day a number of practitioners are locked up in small isolation cells. Even now, practitioners are being separated and force-fed daily.

Practitioner Ms. Guo Meisong, 40 years old, was imprisoned in the 9th Ward. Since 2002, she and the other practitioners were forced to walk outside for long periods of time, regardless of the weather. From 6:00 a.m. to noon and from the afternoon till evening, the practitioners had to walk endlessly. As a result of this long-term abuse, Ms. Guo developed lung problems. Her body swayed uncontrollably while she walked, but the guards still would not let her stop. She could no longer walk one day and fell down. After that, she could not get up anymore. A checkup revealed perforated lungs. Only then did the prison officials notify her father. He came and took her home, carrying her on a bed sheet. She weighed less than one hundred pounds at that point and passed away a few days later at home.

Practitioner Ms. Cai Lei is 25 years old. Because she refused to answer roll call or follow the guards' commands, the inmates designated to persecute Falun Gong beat her for an entire evening inside a storage room. The responsible inmates were Long Juan and Yang Jing, who were instigated by the head guard. Ms. Lei was beaten so badly that it was difficult to recognize her. She was also locked inside a small cell for eight months.

Ms. Feng Haibo is 40 years old. Because she continues to read Falun Gong books, practice the exercises, and refuses to cooperate with the police, she has been jailed since 1999. Every year, she has been locked up in a small isolation cell. The longest time was 10 months. During her incarceration, she has endured all kinds of inhuman tortures.

Zheng Jie is the police team leader. Since the end of 2003, he has forced 32 practitioners to sit on the concrete floor to torture them. At 6:00 a.m. the practitioners have to sit on the wet floor, and they have to sit there until 11:00 p.m., doing this from the end of March till October 1. At the beginning, the persecutors always single out one practitioner. They tie this practitioner up or beat her and force her to squat. They use these tortures to force the practitioners to do hard labor. The practitioners tried to stop this torture and would not let the guards take anyone out. Zheng Jie encouraged two male guards to beat practitioners. That same day, four practitioners, Ms. Liu Kun, Ms. Jiang Meshan, Ms. Yang Baozhu, and Ms. Feng Haibo, were locked up in small isolation cells. But more practitioners were spared from doing hard labor. Then the prison changed to using food deprivation as a means of persecution. Between April and October, they gave the practitioners only one half of a steamed bun (the whole bun is about 2.7 ounces) for each meal. Furthermore, during this time the practitioners were forbidden from buying additional food in the prison store. These practitioners' physical health was severely damaged.

Practitioner Ms. Ya Xiuhua is 52 years old. She was deprived of sufficient nourishment between 2003 and 2004 and was prevented from buying any additional food. Her teeth and gums started bleeding and oozing fluid, and her teeth started to fall out. In April 2005, someone named Liu Po knocked her down and injured her lumbar vertebra, causing her chronic pain ever since.

The former team leader, Zheng Jieren, forced 32 practitioners to sit on the earthen floor toward the end of 2003 from 6:00 a.m. until 6 p.m.

In the spring of 2004, the prison was moved to a new location. Immediately after that, a new round of persecution ensued. The practitioners were compelled to do hard labor. If someone refused to cooperate, four inmates would carry the practitioners away, beat them, and then lock them in small isolation cells. Practitioners started a hunger strike to protest, but they were force-fed. Practitioner Ms. Deng Lianmei's teeth became loose because the prison guards used tools to pry her mouth open during force-feeding. She eventually lost all of her teeth. The prison guards repeatedly inserted and then pulled out the feeding tubes, doing so five to six times until the practitioners vomited all that was being fed.

In the summer, the 9th Ward was renovated into a headquarters for "reforming" Falun Gong practitioners. Twenty practitioners were taken to undergo the forced brainwashing. The rest of the practitioners' money was confiscated. During these two years, every one or two weeks, the prison guards would body search the practitioners and search the entire cell. They confiscated hand-written copies of Master Li's lectures, copies of Zhuan Falun, and practitioners' bedding and clothing. Sometimes not a single shirt was left for the practitioners.

In April 2005, the prison was again preparing to forcibly "reform" practitioners. The prison guards used some deceptive methods and dragged several practitioners away. If the practitioners refused to cooperate, the prison guards incited the criminal inmates to beat the practitioners or locked these practitioners up in small cells. Twenty prison guards with electric batons stood along the sides of the hallway. A new round of persecution started again. The practitioners had previously been compelled to do hard labor; this time they were made to stay inside their cells, watched by a prisoner.

In 2004, the guards attempted to force twenty practitioners to go through "reformation," but none were actually reformed. In 2005, only two out of 10 practitioners were "reformed."

In August 2005, some steadfast practitioners were transferred into different groups, and only about 10 practitioners were left in the original teams. The torture was intensified. The practitioners were deprived of sleep for 10 days in a row. After being tortured for over two months they could no longer move.

Falun Gong practitioners were detained on the third floor. The windows were covered, and the practitioners there were prevented from washing, changing their clothes, or sleeping. They were placed under around-the-clock monitoring and suffered from other inhuman tortures. The prison guards use these tortures to "reform" the practitioners.

Practitioner Ms. Ba Lijiang is 38 years old, and she is imprisoned in the 7th Ward. Because she refused to cooperate and continued to practice Falun Gong in jail, she was locked up, separated from the other practitioners, and tortured. The window in each small cell is covered with paper, and she was monitored around the clock. She was subjected to force-feeding between 2005 and 2006.

The Persecution of Falun Gong Practitioners from Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia

On February 2002, practitioners Ms. Zhao Yanxia and Ms. Hao Ping were illegally arrested by the authorities in Chifeng. After cruel persecution, they were sent to the women's jail in the Hongshan District Detention Center. The chief of the bureau took several police and ransacked Ms. Hao Ping's house. They also made her husband sign a paper for the record and then released him. Ms. Hao Ping's family went to the police Hongshan District and asked for her release. A little after the 2002 Chinese New Year, the police promised she would be released before May 1st.

On April 10, 2001, the practitioners in Hongshan District Detention Center were forced to recite the prison rules, but the practitioners refused, so policewoman Deng Liyan used an electric baton to shock them. About seven or eight practitioners decided to go on a hunger strike in protest. Seven days later, at night, more than a hundred male prisoners followed the orders of the authorities in the Hongshan District Detention Center and dragged all the female practitioners out. Several prisoners dragged one practitioner to a chair, which was preset in the hallway alone. They held down her arms and legs, immobilized her head, used chopsticks to pry open her mouth, stuck a tube down her throat, and force-fed her a mixture of water and corn powder. Some practitioners were clarifying the truth to them, and some were struggling. A very young practitioner started to cry.

Group leader Qiu Xuedong shouted, "Feed them! Feed them! Force-feed them!" Some of the prisoners noticed that Ms. Zhao Yanxia's head had dropped down and that she could not sit up anymore, so they said to stop feeding her. Qiu Xuedong just said, "Continue the feeding!" At that moment Ms. Zhao was pushed off the chair, dragged to the side wall, and carelessly dumped there. A practitioner walked over to her and called out, "Ms. Ms. Zhao! Zhao!" But the police kicked her away.

An hour later, all the practitioners had been force fed with the corn and water mixture. Then they were taken back to jail. Only Ms. Zhao was left in the hallway.

About half an hour later, a prisoner went to check on Ms. Zhao and said that she was dead. Her body was cold, but the police quickly took her to the hospital.

Several days later, Ms. Zhao's family was informed by the authorities that she had suffered a heart attack and died after being sent to the hospital for emergency treatment. The police told the other practitioners that Ms. Zhao had gone home for treatment. In reality, the police were afraid that the news of her death might leak out. They stopped all family visits for the entire Hongshan District Detention Center. Some prisoners' jail terms were even prolonged. In the meantime they quickly transferred the other practitioners to other jails or forced labor camps. In order to keep Ms. Zhao's family members from talking, the authorities in the Chifeng, Hongshan area, exaggerated the charges against Ms. Zhao and Ms. Hao Ping, and made Ms. Zhao's family members think that if she hadn't died she would have been sentenced for a long time. As a result, Ms. Zhao's family members agreed to admit that Ms. Zhao's death was "natural," as the authorities had reported, and agreed not to mention the persecution any more. Also, the police arrested Ms. Hao Ping's husband Liu Fuan and sentenced Ms. Hao Ping herself to seven years in jail instead of releasing her before May 1. Her husband Mr. Liu was sentenced to five years in prison for no reason. Another practitioner, Ms. Geng Xiulan, was sentenced to three years in jail.

After Ms. Hao and her husband were put in jail, the older members of the family were terribly frightened and suffered from hunger and illness. Their lives are in danger. The couple's 13-year-old child was without care, dropped out of school, and wandered about the countryside. Later, some relatives found and took care of the child, but they had to borrow money for the child's school fees and living expenses, and the child's school grades dropped sharply. Ms. Hao and her husband had a business doing animal husbandry, but after they were put in jail, the pigs and dogs all disappeared. Plus, the police confiscated items, resulting in a financial loss of a hundred thousand yuan. This couple suffered all kinds of cruel persecution. Ms. Hao was in the First Women's Jail in Inner Mongolia. The police forbade her from sleeping on the bed. She could no longer move her legs, so they threw her blanket on the floor and only allowed her to sleep on the floor.

On September 18, 2006, practitioner Mr. Liu was supposed to have been released from jail after five years of persecution in Chifeng jail. However, his nephew, who went to pick him up, and Mr. Liu were sent to the brainwashing center by Chifeng authorities. Mr. Liu had 2, 500 yuan extorted from hm, and we still don't know when he will be released. The innocent nephew also must turn in 250 yuan to be released.
