9. On 3 February 2004, the Special Rapporteur sent a joint urgent appeal with the Special Rapporteur on torture and the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, concerning Tian Xianofei and Cao Jiguang. Mr. Tian, 40 years old, was reportedly detained in Huazi Prison in Liaoyang City, and sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment by the Pingshan District Court, allegedly for being a Falun Gong practitioner. According to the information received, Mr. Tian began a hunger strike on 20 July 2003 and was forcibly fed and denied medical treatment. Cao Jiguang, 35 years old, was reportedly detained in Guangyuan Jail in Sichuan Province, serving a five-year sentence, allegedly for being a Falun Gong practitioner. It was reported that during a hunger strike, Cao Jiguang was force fed by the jail's doctor, who inserted a plastic tube into his trachea and pulled it out repeatedly with the apparent intention of hurting him, and that before force-feeding him guards opened his mouth with an instrument, which caused severe injuries inside his mouth.
10. On 30 April 2004, the Special Rapporteur transmitted a joint urgent appeal with the Chairman-Rapporteur of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on torture, concerning Gong Sheng Liang, aged 51. He was reportedly held in Hongshan Prison, Wuhan City. On 12 April 2004, his relatives visited him and reportedly found him unable to walk; he needed to be carried by four other inmates. It was also reported that he was in a coma for several days following a beating in June 2003 and that his medical condition had since deteriorated. It was alleged that he has been refused medical treatment for his injuries. In view of his state of health, concern was expressed for the physical and mental integrity of Gong Sheng Liang if he did not receive prompt and adequate medical treatment.
11. On 30 April 2004, the Special Rapporteur sent a joint urgent appeal with the Special Rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression, the Special Rapporteur on torture and the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, concerning Liu Mei, aged 36, a resident of Donggang City, Liaoning Province. It was reported that Liu Mei was arrested on 9 April 2002 and sentenced to 13 years in prison for producing and distributing materials about Falun Gong. She was reportedly held in Dabei Prison in Shenyang City. On 10 March 2004, a visiting relative reported that Liu Mei, extremely weak and thin, was carried to the visiting room. It was alleged that she had been denied adequate medical attention and her health has reportedly continued to deteriorate. In view of the reported state of her health, concern was expressed for the physical and mental integrity of Liu Mei if she did not receive prompt and adequate medical attention.
12. On 15 July 2004, the Special Rapporteur sent a joint urgent appeal with the Special Rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression, the Special Rapporteur on torture and the Special Rapporteur on violence against women regarding Geng Juying and Su Yanhua. On 25 May 2002, Ms. Geng, a Falun Gong practitioner, was allegedly taken to the Mengzhou police station. She was pregnant at the time. It was alleged that the police officers forcibly gave her an injection to induce an abortion so she could be sent to the Shibalihe Labour Camp. On 15 April 2002 Ms. Su, a resident of Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, was arrested by local police because she was a Falun Gong practitioner. She was sent to Lianjiangkou Detention Centre and two weeks later transferred to the Jiamusi Labour Camp. She began a hunger strike and it was alleged that she was force-fed milk and salt for seven days. The conditions in Jiamusi Labour Camp were allegedly very unsanitary. By February 2003, Ms. Su had developed scabies. It was alleged that at one point the guards sprayed her with a chemical that caused her severe chest pains and rendered her unable to move her head or hands. Ms. Su was reportedly not released from the labour camp after her term expired and her health remained in a critical condition.
14. In a letter dated 15 October 2004 and sent jointly with the Special Rapporteur on freedom of opinion and expression, the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, the Special Rapporteur on freedom of religion or belief, the Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, the Special Rapporteur on torture and the Special Rapporteur on violence against women, the Special Rapporteur expressed his concern at reports about the treatment of members of the Falun Gong and other "heretical organizations". Over the past five years, hundreds of cases of alleged violations of the human rights of Falun Gong practitioners have been brought to the attention of the Special Rapporteurs. Many of these allegations have been reported to the Chinese authorities and are reflected in reports of the Special Rapporteurs to the Commission on Human Rights. The Special Rapporteur was concerned that reports of the denial of adequate medical treatment of detained members of "heretical organizations", in particular Falun Gong practitioners, were increasing.

Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Ji Yingping was on her way to another practitioner's house on May 20, 2005, when she was abducted by the Jiamusi City police, who had been following her. Ms. Ji is currently detained at the Jiamusi City Detention Center. For the past two weeks, the police have not permitted her family members to visit her. Ms. Ji's current health condition is extremely poor. She developed a severe lung condition and began vomiting blood. Even under such circumstances, the 610 Office still has not released her. Her family members have gone to the detention center many times, but the relevant departments refuse to take responsibility and do not reply to the family's requests.
Since July 20, 1999, Ms. Ji Yingping has been abducted three times. The first time was on October 28, 1999. The Jiamusi City Changsheng Police Station sent out policeman Cong Wensheng to Ms. Ji's house. Cong said to her, "Are you still going to practice Falun Gong?" She replied, "The practice is so good. Of course I will continue practicing it." She was then arrested simply because of her reply. She was furthered interrogated when she was detained at the police station. The police officer saw her determination and will to practice, so he said hypocritically "We will release you if you stop practicing Falun Gong." Ms. Ji replied, "I will continue to practice!" For this short phrase, Ms. Ji was sent to the detention center. She was imprisoned at the detention center for 43 days and was eventually released after her family spent more than 2000 yuan to treat the police officer.
The second time she was arrested was on December 12, 2002. She was on her way to a practitioner's house when the police from the Jiamusi City Railway Police Substation arrested her. She was later sent to the East Jiamusi City Changsheng Police Substation. She was forced to sit on the Iron Chair for 24 hours while she was being interrogated. The next day, Ms. Ji was sent to the detention center. She was imprisoned for more than a month and later sentenced to two years of forced labor. During this time, Ms. Ji was diagnosed with a thyroid tumor and needed to receive treatments, but the Jiamusi City 610 Office did not care about Falun Gong practitioner's lives. Two days before the Chinese New Year, Ms. Ji was sent to a forced labor camp to undergo forced labor. The camp refused to examine her. The director of the 610 Office was determined not to release her and ordered the forced labor camp to keep her.
The authorities continued to persecute her. Ms. Ji experienced various types of torture at the forced labor camp. Her wrists were handcuffed so much that the back of her hands were swollen like steamed buns. She lost feeling in her arms and could not lift her shoulders. (Even after her release, she still could not move her arms freely for over six months. She recovered after practicing the exercises.) The police even told collaborators to force a pen between Ms. Ji's fingers and make her sign the Repentance Statement that had been prepared beforehand, showing that Ms. Ji had been "reformed." After being persecuted for more than two months, Ms. Ji's thyroid cancer rapidly worsened. Her shoulders hurt so much that she could not sleep. After an exam, the doctor from the forced labor camp affirmed that the tumor was not curable and suggested she to go to the City Hospital for a second opinion. On March 8, 2005, Ms. Ji was diagnosed with malignant thyroid cancer by the Central Hospital. The hospital affirmed that her condition was so critical that she could not be detained. Even under such conditions, the East Jiamusi Police Station still refused to release her. It was only after Ms. Ji's family paid 2000 yuan to the police station that she was released on March 26, 2005.
She has now been detained for a third time.
To our kind-hearted friends, you may not know the truth about the evil Chinese Communist Party's persecution of Falun Gong, because the persecution is entirely secret and hidden from the public. The persecution is brutal and inhumane. Ms. Ji Yingping is only one of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners who are being persecuted. Since we cannot contact Ji Yingping in person, the information we have revealed is only part of the true situation. There are in fact many more cases of persecution that are rarely known by others.
All the Falun Gong practitioners in Daqing Prison have been strongly resisting the persecution carried out by the inmates and guards. However, the local leaders in charge of persecuting Falun Gong have recently escalated the persecution.
Prison guard Guo Chuntang exclaimed, "Killing and torturing people in Daqing Prison doesn't matter!" Prison guard Li Fengjiang said to the others, "Cremate Falun Gong (practitioners) if they refuse to change." When head prison guard Jiang Shucheng saw practitioners being taken away to be force-fed, he told the prison guards, "Don't feed them milk powder or corn paste. Water is enough." Zhu Zhongxin, guard of the No. 4 jail block, yelled out as he counted the prisoners, "Tie up those Falun Gong (practitioners) if they refuse to follow!" He also commanded prison guard Li Jinhao to lead eight prisoners to beat practitioner Mr. Wu Chunwen. Afterwards, they tied Mr. Wu Chunwen to the metal bars. That evening, Zhu Zhongxin was drunk, and he sat in front of the practitioners and cursed them. Prison guard Li Jinhao punched Mr. Wu in the ear with his fist, perforating his eardrum. Mr. Wu has now lost his hearing.
No. 7 Jail Block political instructor guard Zhang Dezhi commanded the prisoners to torture practitioner Xu Jishan to death. The prison guards are now occupied in covering up the murder and trying to pass his death off as natural causes. At a prison meeting on June 10, they also threatened all the prisoners in all the jail blocks not to discuss the matter with anyone from the outside. Anyone who did so would lose the chance of a reduced prison term and would also be detained in solitary confinement. Consequently, no prisoners dared to speak the truth to anyone on the outside.
Practitioner Mr. Yuan Qingjiang, who is detained in the No. 6 jail block has been fasting for a long time, and his physical condition has deteriorated. The police took him to the public hospital and didn't notify his family. He is now in the prison hospital. Mr. Yuan Qingjiang vomited large amounts of blood and has become very skinny. His situation is critical. Practitioner Wang Hongde from the No. 3 jail block became critically ill in this so-called hospital, and his family was notified to take him home. After 15 days at home, he died.
Mr. Pu Fanwei from the No. 4 jail block has been fasting for over 10 days. Due to long-term persecution, he has become emaciated and is also in critical condition.
We appeal to all righteous people to immediately use all means to stop the brutal persecution and murder of Falun Gong practitioners in Daqing Prison.
In April 2002, the Harbin Anti-Riot Squad and the Shuangcheng police joined forces to arrest four practitioners. I was one of those arrested. Ms. Bai Xiuhua, a practitioner who worked as a household registrar in the local police station, was persecuted to death on August 28, 2002. The following is an attempt to recapture the events of that time when she was force-fed at the Wanjia Labor Camp hospital.
At the beginning of August 2002, Ms. Bai was brought to the prison cell I was in. She couldn't function by herself at the time, so a couple of helpers supported her and put her in bed. The police officer handcuffed her left arm to the bed, pressed down her right arm and instructed a medical doctor to administer an intravenous drip and then force-fed her at the same time.
While the force-feeding was in progress, I saw the food administered through her nose spew out of her mouth. The police officer incessantly slapped her cheeks, yelled at her, and tormented her.
After this torture she was barely breathing so they called a medical doctor for a physical examination. The doctor said, "Ms. Bai's lung has been filled with water for a while." The hospital personnel knew that she was dying and that the police officer had brought her there to persecute her further.
I asked Ms. Bai how she had ended up at the Wanjia Labor Camp. She could talk only in a weak voice at the time. She uncovered her wrists and ankles to show the marks left from wearing handcuffs and shackles that were forced on her while she was in Qichu, from where she said she had been sent. She had refused food for over a month and a half at Qichu, and she had felt she was at the end of her rope, so she tried to escape by jumping from the upper floor. The fall broke her spine. The police officer at Qichu sent her to the Wanjia Labor Camp, which refused to accept her, citing her physical condition. The Qichu police asked Acheng police officers to take her back to Qichu, but instead they took her to the Wanjia Labor Camp hospital.
We were in the prison cell together for seven days. I was released after seven days, and she died three days after from the persecution.
(Case Information: Ms. Bai Xiuhua was 40 years old. She was a policewoman and acted as the household registrar at the police station in Jiaojie Town, Acheng City. She was discharged from her duties because she was a Falun Gong practitioner. She was illegally arrested three times. She was again unlawfully arrested on July 8, 2002, and imprisoned at the Second Prison Center of Acheng. She later was transferred to the Wanjia Labor Camp. She suffered brutal torture while imprisoned and died on August 28.)
For her firm belief in Falun Gong, Ms. Zhang Xihong of Jinzhou City was persecuted by the police in 2002. In the end, she suffered severe paraplegia. Her personal life, mental state, and physical condition, as well as her family life, have been drastically impacted and damaged. Unable to bear the mental and economic pressure, her husband left her. Now Ms. Zhang is without any income and barely survives. She depends on help from her parents, relatives and close friends. The following is an account, in Ms. Zhang's own words, about the persecution:
My name is Zhang Xihong. I am 35 years old. I was once a resident of No. 135-8, Taian Alley, Taihe District, Jinzhou City in Liaoning Province. But I now live at No. 75-26, Xingye Alley, Jingye Street, Guta District, Jinzhou City in Liaoning Province.
In 1995, after giving birth to my baby, I got rheumatoid arthritis, heart disease, indigestion, nerve malfunction and nephritis. Every day I had to take many pills and use acupuncture or electrotherapy. I would also have to go in for tests. I even took Chinese herbs. All of these helped only a little. In addition, I was made feeble and unable to hold my 11lb baby. My dresser was full of medical bottles of various sizes. In the summer, while others only wore a thin shirt, I would wear two shirts and still feel cold. During the spring and autumn, I had to put on a cotton-padded jacket and could not take it off until May. At that time I was only 25 years old, but had been tormented by illnesses and a low quality of life. I would secretly cry about the suffering inflicted on me at such a young age.
While visiting my mother in April of 1997 I encountered some Falun Gong practitioners. They enthusiastically told me about Falun Dafa's health effects and how to promote one's moral character as well as the teaching of being a good person. A few months later I borrowed a copy of "Zhuan Falun." After reading the book with a calm state of mind, I found answers to my many questions about life. Afterwards, my worldview totally changed. I started to know the true meaning of life and how one should behave as a good person.
Before I read Zhuan Falun, I had actually acted like a crook when doing business. I cheated and stole things, and also shamefully tricked others, fought them or cursed them. After beginning my practice in Falun Gong I got rid of all those bad habits. In sales, I would be honest and not cheat. I would even give out more than the amount bought. I respected my parents and my husband's parents and stopped fighting for personal gain among my sisters and brothers. I started to yield to others and bear the sufferings. I critically required myself to follow the standard of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.
Upon the elevation of my moral behavior, my body went through earth-shaking changes too. Cold food that I had never dared to eat now became okay to eat. My hands and feet would not ache when encountering cool air or cold water. When I was excited due to some urgent matters, my heartbeat no longer went way up and I no longer felt weak. My body gradually recovered to normal and I enjoyed a sense of well being. My physical health and mental state produced smiles on my face every day and I enjoyed a harmonious atmosphere at home.
Just as I was experiencing all these blessings, Jiang Zemin started the suppression of Falun Gong by overriding the national constitution with his personal will. At the end of August 1999, I went to Beijing to appeal to the central government by telling them my personal experience and the benefits I had gained from Falun Gong. I wanted to ask them to restore Falun Dafa's good name as well as Teacher Li's good name, but instead, I was unlawfully taken back to Jinzhou City and held in detention.
In 2002, on a Saturday morning around 6 a.m., when I was at home with my husband, a bunch of police arrived and knocked on our door. They announced, "We are from the police station, here to get Zhang Xihong. Open the door!" I answered back through the door, "Please see me during working hours. Right now, I can't open the door for you." I knew the police were up to no good. The persecution had been going on for almost four years and they knew by now that Falun Gong practitioners only want to be people of high moral standards, yet they still persecute unarmed and peaceful practitioners in pursuit of being rewarded by their superiors. Thousands of practitioners had been brutally persecuted to death, while a quarter million or so practitioners were sentenced to forced labor, causing their families to break up or practitioners being forced to leave home to avoid further persecution. I could not let them persecute me and help the tyrant do evil. I also could not leave my dear relatives without me.
Immediately, I called my husband's parents and my own parents, telling them, "The police are in front of my home demanding me to open the door without saying why. I will wait and see if they will go away so as to avoid unnecessary trouble." After hearing that, my mother-in-law came over right away to negotiate with the police. But it was useless, so she left. Then my sister and brother-in-law came. As they saw five or six policemen get out of a police car with a locksmith, my sister and her husband didn't dare to get closer to my house.
Around 8 a.m., the police had the locksmith try to pry open the lock of my apartment door. My husband grasped tight to the lock bar so as to resist their efforts. This situation went on for some time. Then suddenly another police van came with seven or eight fully armed policemen to charge towards my apartment. At the sight of this, my sister was scared to death. To avoid their persecution, while my husband was blocking up the door, I escaped from the east window of my apartment to the balcony on the 4th floor. Because of the police's intimidation, I fell down accidentally from the 5th floor. Meanwhile, the police broke into my apartment and pushed my husband down on the bed. They hit and beat him, cuffed him and restrained him so he was unable to move. A lady watching from outside passed out at seeing the whole process of my falling down. A policeman watching me from the first floor was stunned due to his fear. Seeing me falling through the second floor, my brother-in-law on the ground rushed to catch my body, but it was too late.
The ground floor of our apartment complex was within the Beichuan Road morning market, so the road was full of people, especially since it was a weekend . When my accident occurred, a sea of people crowded on to the scene. My brother-in-law called the emergency number "120" for an ambulance while my sister got dumbfounded and kept crying while she held me tight. Before I was sent to a hospital, the policemen stayed in my apartment. Some of them held my husband while others started to search my house. Later they dragged my husband to the police car and took him to the police station. After searching his body, they detained my husband several hours until his classmates and friends went to the police station to demand his release.
I was sent to a hospital in the city center for emergency rescue. Upon hearing about my accident, my parents, brothers, and other relatives came in a hurry to the hospital. They saw three or four guys carrying a video camera asking around about me; they wanted to videotape me. My sister told the relatives that those police officers were responsible for the harm done to me in falling. Thus, my family members bitterly denounced the bad deeds of those guys. As a result they hid for the time being, but still remained to monitor me quietly. During my 9-day stay in the hospital, there were always some plain-clothes police watching me.
Later I came out of the crisis and back to life. My relatives and friends said, "Fortunately you survived, otherwise those bad police video taping you could spread a rumor that you had gone haywire because of Falun Gong practice. The police would have said you committed suicide so as to fabricate a charge against Falun Gong and to deceive the people. They would have freed themselves from their liability of causing harm to you, while they received rewards or promotions. Nobody is worse than those wicked police."
From then on I have suffered from severe paraplegia. My injuries included two fractured left ribs, three fractured right ribs, two cracks to the left shoulder, a broken and fractured right collarbone, two fractures to the right pelvis, and a broken thoracic vertebra between section 3 and 4 with marrow flowing out. Damage to my nerves and internal organs caused the paraplegia. My body is numb, and I lost control over bowel movements and urination. I cannot walk or take care of my daily necessities. I have to be bedridden forever.
Having already suffered the overwhelming pressure, my husband blacked out and fainted at hearing about my severe paraplegia. My mother is more than 60 years old and my father is 70-something. My family members and relatives have worried about me as well as bore immense pressure, causing their bodies to become weak without recovery. Economically, they have lost directly and indirectly more than 100 thousand yuan. Today, my parents still keep a vendor stand on the street to try and earn some money. Due to the persecution, my husband has suffered enormous mental pressure and became physically feeble. He takes some Chinese herbal medicine every day. In light of this, we both agreed to a divorce.
In this unprecedented persecution, I lost my family and became alone. My former husband lost his wife and became a lonely person. My son lost the tender loving care of his mother. My happiness and my once warm family have been torn to pieces.
Meanwhile, those police involved, and even the officials who sent out the command to persecute me are also victims themselves. Under the temptation of personal gains and the deceiving lies, unknowingly they have been used by the scoundrel Jiang's regime to do bad things. Hereby, I wish those of you being used can reverse and mend your ways so as to stop helping the tyrant do evil. Stop deliberately breaking the law. Stop persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. Utilize the rights you possess to make amends for your previous faults by doing good deeds. For your own future, to avoid retribution, start now to collect evidence of the Jiang regime's persecution of Falun Gong. Also, I plead to the nice and kind people, for the sake of truth and justice, please help stop the persecution of the innocent practitioners and punish the murderers.
My name is Qi Jianfeng and I am a Falun Gong practitioner from Nanxiji Village, Xiheying Town, Wei County, Hebei Province. I am 50 years old. I began practicing Falun Gong in 1997. Before that, I had many illnesses such as shortness of breath, edema, muscle aches, and shoulder pain. I always felt cold and had to wear cotton gloves and wool pants even in the summer. I was always on medication and couldn't work on our farm. My husband had to do all the farm work and housework for me as well.
In early 1997, someone introduced Falun Gong to me and I started the practice. All my illnesses miraculously disappeared shortly after.
My mother, Ms. Xue Xiumei, was over 70 years old. She wasn't healthy and she vomited constantly. Although she took a lot of medicine every day, her vomiting became worse. Eventually, she began vomiting a black watery substance and her life was in danger. Mother, my third younger sister, Ms. Qi Jianzhen, and I started to practice Falun Gong together. Their illnesses also disappeared and my family thus lived happily and was healthy.
When the persecution of Falun Gong started on July 20, 1999, practitioners who had benefited so much both physically and mentally couldn't understand why such a thing would happen. We decided to do the Falun Gong exercises in a group on July 23 and use this as a way to appeal for Falun Gong. On July 22, we heard that the town and village officials planned to arrest practitioners at the practice site. Nobody was intimidated and over 20 people showed up to exercise the next day. Soon, the village and town officials arrived and arrested us without giving any reason. We were locked up in the village prison. They tried to force us to write "guarantee statements" promising never to practice again or we would not be released. They fined each of us 300 to 600 yuan. There was someone watching us 24 hours a day and we were not allowed to go to the toilet or sleep. Over 20 of us were crammed into a small room with just one bed. We were released after 20 days.
In July 2000, Ms. Sun Jinfeng from our village and my sister Qi Jianzhen went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. When the village officials learned about the trip, they asked several practitioners to come to the police station and then they interrogated them. The town and village officials hired about ten people to surround me and asked me, "Did you know that your sister went to Beijing?" I didn't reply. They asked me if I practiced Falun Gong, I replied, "Yes!" They then brutally beat me. Over ten of them came together beating and kicking me, all the while asking me if I practiced Falun Gong. I replied with determination, "I will practice even if you beat me to death!" They handcuffed me to a pole in a yard for over an hour; then, I was locked together with my mother, sister, and five other practitioners in a coal storage room. There was not enough room to stand and so we tried to sit on a piece of paper. They took the piece of paper away and forced us to take our shoes and socks off and then cut off the strings holding up our underwear and pants. Li Dongxu from Zhenbao Village poured bucket after bucket of cold water on us trying to force us to "transform." We were soaking wet and were cold and hungry standing in the black muddy coal water. We stood for five days and were tortured every day. The practitioners who refused to write the guarantee statement were sent to the Qijiazao Brainwashing Center where the persecution continued.
Before that, some lawless people broke into my home and stole our TVs, yarn, and 200 yuan in cash. The evil people took my 70-year-old mother to the police station and interrogated her. She was asked if she knew that her daughter had gone to Beijing. My mother said she didn't know, and then she was taken to an empty house. Chen Xiling from Zhenbao Village, Shi Juncheng, and a third person took turns beating my mother. Later, the police arrested my brother, who was not a practitioner, and confiscated his TV, yarn other personal belongings, and 200 yuan cash that was hidden under the TV. My sister-in-law cried and my brother asked them to return the things but his request was in vain. The police even forced my mother to put her fingerprint on a document (agreeing to surrender the objects that had been confiscated from the family). My mother fainted right away and her life was in danger. She was sent home the next day.
After about nine days, Chen Xiling and two other people broke into our house and forcefully took my mother to the Shijiazao Brainwashing Center. My mother was tortured until she couldn't eat or drink and was very weak. At this time, my third sister was transferred from the prison to the brainwashing center. My sister and I and other practitioners went on a hunger strike for six days to protest the illegal detention and abuse. When my sister became critically ill, she and my mother were allowed to go home.
The guards persecuted us insanely. They wouldn't allow us to sleep before midnight. We were forced to stand facing the wall without moving during the night, and listen to the propaganda slandering the Falun Gong principles during the day. The guards drew a circle on the floor for each person, and we had to sit inside the circle. We were not allowed to talk to each other. We ate a small bun and a bowl of diluted rice porridge for each meal; still, our family was charged 25 yuan per day for our meals. We were illegally imprisoned for a month and were subjected to violent "transformation" attempts. Those who refused to "transform" would be punished by being forced to kneel on brick blocks, made to hold their arms at shoulder height while supporting two brick blocks, or holding their arms straight above their heads while standing without moving. Under this brutal situation, I wasn't able to take it any longer and wrote a guarantee statement against my will. I was fined over 1,000 yuan before being released.
After my third younger sister came home, the lawless people frequently came to our home to harass us. My sister wrote a letter to the Town Secretary trying to sue the police and expose their illegal conduct. This way we got our TV back. However, they said that the cash that was taken from us would not be given back unless we quit practicing Falun Gong. My mother and I said, "We will continue to practice! We don't want the money. We want to practice Falun Gong."
In November 2001, my third younger sister, Qi Jianzhen, and Sun Jinfeng from our village went to Beijing again to appeal for Falun Gong and were arrested by the Beijing police. After they were detained for four days, our local police recognized my sister and brought her back home. She was sent to the Yu County Prison. My sister went on a hunger strike for over a month, which brought her to the brink of death many times. The prison officials were afraid of being held responsible for her death, so the local 610 Office was asked to send a car and take my dying sister home. As my sister was being carried towards our home, my mother could see that my sister was as thin as a rail and almost dead. She refused to allow them to bring my sister into her home, "She was perfectly fine when she left and now she's dying. You persecuted her to this extent and I won't take responsibility for her death. Take her wherever you want."
A town official, Jia Zhongcheng, said, "It was you who told her to practice." "I want you to practice too, would you? She did it out of her heart." answered my mother. My mother left right away. I was afraid that they would take my sister home and told them, "You are bringing her to us when her life is in danger. Why didn't you bring her earlier?" Jia answered, "It wasn't us who put her life in danger, it was the Communist Party that persecuted her." I replied, "I won't take care of it." I went home. They followed me home immediately and begged me to take my sister. I told them that if they wanted me to keep my sister, they should never come back or harass her again.
After a little more than a month, and when my sister had recovered a little, many police officers started patrolling the area in their cars looking for my sister and Sun Jinfeng. My sister and Sun Jinfeng had to hide underground where we store dry wood. After that, my sister and Ms. Sun were forced to leave our home and live a homeless life for half a year. After six months, my sister and Sun Jinfeng were found, arrested, and sent to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in Baoding City. They were illegally sentenced to two-year terms. The camp refused to take my sister because of her weakened condition. The county 610 Office and county police bribed the camp to take my sister. My sister and Sun Jinfeng encouraged each other and were determined to expose the evil when they were released.
After my sister was sent to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp, the village police officer, Guo Zhengcai, led two men and a woman from the 610 Office in town to break into my mother's home. Three of them beat my mother until she fell to the ground and they jumped on her and forcefully took four of her Falun Gong books. Facing the evil people's harassment many times, my mother was not a bit afraid. She often said, "I am over 70 years old. It is Teacher and Falun Gong that gave me my life. My heart is composed and righteous. I will appeal for Falun Gong openly and nobly!"
After my sister and Sun Jinfeng left my house, a gang from the town government arrested me, took me to town, and tried to compel me to tell them the whereabouts of my sister and Ms. Sun. I went on a hunger strike to protest their evil conduct. Three days later, Jia Zhongcheng, a town official, said to me, "I won't ask you to defame Falun Gong and write the guarantee statement. Just eat when you need to."
On my way to the dining hall, I saw a gang from the 610 Office beating a practitioner with steel bars in a yard. That practitioner had one lame leg and the evil gang targeted that leg and beat it with full force. The practitioner's tragic and miserable screaming could be heard from far away.
On May 6, 2005, Gao Yuzhen, Qi Jianrong, Li Senlin, Qi Jianzhi, Sun Jingfeng, and I solemnly stated that the statements we wrote under the pressure of the persecution were null and void. The gang from the town came to investigate the solemn statements we had written, arrested us all (except Gao Yuzhen who was 87 years old), and held us in detention. We all went on a hunger strike to protest and were released after a week.
The No. 7 Detention Center in Harbin ruthlessly persecutes Falun Gong practitioners. Police shocked Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Shuzhen's whole body with electric batons, sexually harassed Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xu Youqin, and used two bamboo sticks to squeeze Ms. Jia Shumin's hands eight times repeatedly.
In July 2002, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Shuzhen from Heilongjiang Province was illegally arrested on her way home, and sent to the No. 7 Detention Center in Harbin. In the detention center, Ms. Wang tried to clarify the truth about Falun Gong to the 610 Office personnel. They did not listen, and instead cruelly tortured her.
First, they tied Ms. Wang's hands so tightly with rope that she could not move them. Her hands soon turned purple-black and became swollen.
On the second day, the police started prodding her all over her body with electric batons. As a result, her whole body turned purple-black and was covered with purple lumps. People who saw her condition in the jail were devastated. A few days later, another four people continued the brutal interrogation, yet Ms. Wang still did not cooperate with them. They used electric batons to shock her again. They also handcuffed Ms. Wang's hands to an iron chair, then wrapped them with electric wires and shocked them. The electricity circulating through her whole body made her pass out. The police poured cold water on her to revive her, and then continued the torture, shocking her repeatedly several times. Ms. Wang's face went pale and she was unable to walk or support herself. Afterwards, these four policemen who interrogated her took turns beating her. This time one of Ms. Wang's teeth was knocked out, causing her mouth to bleed.
In addition, police also went to Ms. Wang's home to illegally confiscate her family's belongings. They confiscated the cash set aside for her child to attend college, her bankbook, retirement pension, ID card, and even the pictures on the wall.
Then police sentenced Ms. Wang to three years of imprisonment without any proper legal course.
The police in the No. 7 Detention Center were ruthless and vicious towards Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xu Youqin. Using interrogating her as a reason, they took her into a dark room and sexually harassed her. Police first handcuffed both her hands and then said she was beautiful. Then they began to touch her. They groped her breasts and then used a cigarette lighter to burn her nipples. Then they bound Ms. Xu to a hard chair and used electric batons to shock her whole body.
There was a Falun Gong practitioner named Ms. Yu Guorong in the No. 7 Detention Center, who was around 60 years old. The police not only shocked her with electric batons, but also constantly yelled at her. They used small plastic tubes to beat her head. When they shocked her, both her hands were handcuffed to a hard chair. Her hands were wrapped with electric wires, and her whole body was shocked. The persecution gave her heart problems and made it hard for her to walk. Her muscles twitched incessantly for more than one month after the torture.
Another Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Jia Shumin from Hailin City, was abducted by Chaihe police in April 2002. The police first used two bamboo sticks to squeeze her hands eight times repeatedly. Then they used a big board to beat her, eventually covering her body with cuts and bruises. She was unable to get up for three to four days. During the beatings, Ms. Jia was having her period. The blood from her wounds and the menstrual blood mixed together and flowed down. On seeing this, the policemen roared with laughter.

1. What Country Has a Law That Prohibits People from Closing Their
Eyes?
Falun Gong practitioners detained in the Jiamusi Labor Camp have
revealed that
many of them are being cruelly tortured simply for closing their eyes.
Ms. Qi
Shuyan was dragged out and brutally beaten by prison guards when she
closed her
eyes. For the same "offense," Ms. Zhang Yufang was beaten by prison
guard Hou Lei (male) until she could not see anything clearly. Ms. Ma
Cuihong
fell asleep from exhaustion and the prison guards beat her head with a
rope. Ms.
Bao Lixia was beaten as soon as her eyes closed. The prison guards
always use
loud background music when torturing Falun Gong practitioners to cover
the
practitioners' screams. Since 2002, vicious tortures have been used on
Falun Gong practitioners, including the "carrying a sword on the back"
torture (1), electric baton shocks, or being hung up from four limbs.
Ms. Tong
Li was sentenced to three years of forced labor in the spring of 2002.
Prison
guard Liu Yadong (gender unknown) extended her term. Ms. Tong is having
difficulty walking as the result of severe torture.

She has received some karmic retribution for her actions and now must wear a metal lower back support. Another female 610 Office agent is Sun Guimei (in her 50's). Liu Deming (male) is another lecturer, who on many occasions has physically assaulted Falun Gong practitioners. In 2004, he slammed the head of a Falun Gong practitioner against a wall.

fractured.
Sometimes the victim is hung by both hands, sometimes only by one hand.
