After having been illegally sentenced to three years in prison, Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Wang Dianren from Tonghua City, Jilin Province was transferred to Sipingshiling Prison in Jilin Province on August 9, 2005. He died as a result of torture on August 15, 2005. More details follow:

Mr. Wang died at the age of 50. He was a Falun Gong practitioner from Tonghua City, Jilin Province. He worked as a bricklayer at a construction company. In 2001, he was illegally sentenced to two years in Xishan Forced Labor Camp in Tonghua City, but he was released several months later because of his immovable faith. Since then, the police often harassed him at his home.

On February 5, 2005, Mr. Wang went to his daughter's home, but the police from Laozhan Police Station came shortly after his arrival and abducted him. Once at the Laozhan Police Station, the police kept shocking him with electric batons until he was unable to urinate. They also stripped off his clothes and forced him to stand outdoors for a long time in the mid- February weather in northeast China.

Next the police transferred him to Changliu Detention Center where the guards repeatedly beat him. Once a guard Mr. Liu Jian kicked Wang Dianren hard in his stomach after he shouted out, "Falun Dafa is good." The kick severely injured Mr. Wang's spleen. The intense pain caused him to collapse and pass out. He never recovered from the internal injury.

The police did not notify Wang Dianren's family of the trial date and location. They held a secret trial in which Mr. Wang was illegally sentenced to three and a half a years in Sipingshiling Prison in Jilin Province. He was transferred there on August 9, 2005 and by August 15, 2005 he died as a result of torture.

Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Zhou Fengchun from Baitie Village, Yang'an Township, Xingcheng City, Liaoning Province Is Missing

Ms. Zhou Fengchun lived in Baitie Village, Yang'an Township, Xingcheng City, Liaoning Province. On July 19 and 20, 1999, she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. On both days she was intercepted before she got there. She went again on July 24, 1999, walking along the highway by foot, and no one has heard from her since then.

Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Zhao Lixuan from the Xinguangji Machinery Factory in Wuhan City Is Missing

Mr. Zhao Lixuan is a college graduate and an employee of the Xinguangji Machinery Factory in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. He has been missing since October 2000.

The Court of Yanji City, Jilin Province recently sentenced Cai Fuchen and many other Falun Gong practitioners who had been unlawfully detained for 15 months to long terms in prison. Cai Fuchen was sentenced to 10 years, Liu Chunli to 7, Zhang Hui to 7, and Chen Guangwu to 3. The sentence terms for Xu Yongzhe, Gao Yan, and Li Xiaomei were indefinite.

On May 26, 2005, Cai Yuchen and five other practitioners were apprehended from a truth-clarification material site. Authorities confiscated more than 100,000 yuan in cash and equipment, and even seized all of their daily necessities. The six practitioners were then detained at the Yanji City detention center for 15 months. During their detention, police brutally tortured them numerous times in order to force them to make confessions. On the evening of his arrest, Cai Fuchen was beaten and severely wounded. He could not walk after the beating. The other five were all wounded to various degrees.

In October 2004, Cai Fuchen was tortured to the verge of death. At that time, Mr. Fuchen's father had paralysis in his legs and was ill. When he heard about his son's detention, he and relatives appealed to the Yanbian County government office. He asked the local government to unconditionally release his dying son. However, his request was rejected without any reason given. Soon after, Mr. Fuchen's father died from the grief and mental stress caused by the persecution of his son.

These Falun Gong practitioners were then illegally sentenced to long prison terms and were immediately transferred to Tiebei Prison in Changchun City.

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Bu Fanwei, currently detained in Daqing Prison, has lost his basic abilities to sustain life and is at the brink of death. He is on life support with sodium and potassium injections. His family asked to have him released on bail for medical treatment but the request was denied. Deputy Prison Director Jiang Shuchen said, "His death is inevitable, even if he is bailed out."

We urgently appeal to international organizations and all people of conscience and with a sense of justice to pay attentions to the plight of the Falun Gong practitioners detained in Daqing Prison! They are deprived of freedom and are subjected to terrible living conditions. They do not have basic human rights and their very survival is not guaranteed. They may die at any moment due to the persecution or be injured or become disabled as a result of abuse and torture. In a short three-month period, three practitioners have died because of the persecution.

Mr. Bu Fanwei, 27 years old, is from Gannan County, Qiqihar City, Heilongjiang Province. Because of his belief in "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" he was sentenced to eight years in prison. Since the end of 2000, Bu Fanwei has been transferred to over ten detention centers, forced labor camps or prisons. He suffered torture again and again, whenever he was transferred to a new place. His body is often covered in injuries.

In February 2001, in Beijing Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp, police officers shocked Bu Fanwei with five electric batons simultaneously, blistering his whole body, and his face was burned black. In June he was incarcerated at Dongcheng Detention Center in Beijing. Bu Fanwei started a hunger strike to protest the maltreatment at the hands of the police. The lawless authorities inserted an electric needle into his body to shock him, calling such a brutal torture a so-called "appetizer." Later, they force-fed him 250 grams of salt through a feeding tube.

In October 2001, Bu Fanwei was detained in Harbin Prison, which is indeed a demon's den. Under direct instructions from the prison police, the criminal inmates first tormented him mentally by depriving him of sleep for 24 hours. Then they would beat and kick him every day and torture him physically. In the winter of 2002, the temperature in Harbin City was as low as -30 to -40 ⁰C (between -22 and -40 ⁰F). Bu Fanwei, wearing only thin clothes, was thrown into a pool of cold water and then pulled out to suffer in the freezing cold. Bu Fanwei froze and his whole body turned dark purple from the cold. However, those evil ruffians, wearing thick, warm cotton jackets, continued to dump cold water on him. For a period of time, Bu Fanwei was thrown into the pool almost every day.

In September 2003, the prison police sharpened bamboo chopsticks. They inserted a sharpened chopstick under one of Bu's nails and forced up the whole nail. There are many other inhuman tortures in Harbin Prison, such as bending the fingers or wrist, flicking practitioners' eyeballs, covering their head with a plastic bag, soaking a practitioner's head in a pool of water and other atrocities.

In July 2004, Bu Fanwei was transferred to the No. 4 Prison Ward at Daqing Prison. Because he had suffered long term torture, he had become very thin and lost his basic ability to take care of himself. He could only lie in bed and survived with sodium and potassium injections. His life is in danger and he could die at any moment. Even so, the perpetrators in Daqing Prison didn't give up torturing Bu Fanwei. They would force-feed him once every three days through a feeding tube, brutally inserting and pulling the tube out repeatedly without any concern. After each force-feeding, Mr. Bu's nose would ooze blood and he even coughed blood.

When Bu Fanwei's family saw him lying in bed and dying, they strongly asked to have him released on bail for medical treatment. However, the Daqing Prison authorities firmly refused their request. The Deputy Prison Director Jiang Shuchen and the head of the No. 4 Ward, Cheng Junchang told his family, "His death is inevitable, even if he is bailed out. There is nothing we can do."

Daqing Prison is the "Civilized Model of the State Department." It has murdered three practitioners in the recent three months. On June 7, 2005, Xu Jishan was tortured to death within four hours. On July 23, 2005 Yuan Qingjiang died in the prison after suffering long term tortures. Wang Hongde was in severe condition and his family started the bailout procedure on January 24, 2005; however, Deputy Director Wang Yingjie delayed the process again and again, until it was too late for him to have any medical treatment. On May 14, 2005, just 15 days after Wang Hongde was finally released on bail, he passed away. Daqing Prison regards life as worthless and handles life and death decisions at will. Once a death occurs, they will try to cover up the crime and deceive both the higher authorities and subordinates.

Ms. Deng Shangyuan was a teacher employed by Liuhe Central Elementary School located in Baoxing Town, Dazu County, Sichuan Province. She had been detained and mistreated many times during the persecution, and had been closely monitored and harassed constantly by lawless officials. In March 2005, policemen from Sanqu Town Station stormed into her home in the middle of the night and ransacked it, causing her to be unable to sleep at all. She became very thin, and died on July 25, 2005.

Ms. Deng Shangyuan was 32 years old when she learned Falun Gong at the end of 1997. After practicing, her health improved and her moral standard was raised. All of the people said that she was a good teacher.

After the persecution of Falun Gong began, in order to restore the reputation of Falun Gong and the Teacher, she went to Beijing to appeal, and clarify the truth. She was arrested in Tiananmen Square, and detained in Dazu County Detention Center for one month. She was locked up in a brainwashing class for five months upon being released from the detention center. The officials of the Town government and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) County Political and Judiciary Committee threatened her father, telling him he must sign a guarantee statement, otherwise they would not release her from the brainwashing class. The CCP Town Committee Secretary Shi Lei (male), Town Head Yang Wei (male) and Deputy Town Head Zeng Xianchao (male) would not allow her to go back to work, stating, "If we let you work, we will lose our jobs."

From this time on, Ms. Deng Shangyuan lived a hard life trying to support her two-year-old child. Starting in January 2002, her support allotment was reduced to only 150 yuan. In the same month, Ms. Deng was again taken to a brainwashing class. Ms. Deng and her fellow practitioners walked out of the class after going on a hunger strike for four days, but the authorities would still not allow her go back to teaching. She finally went back to teach in September 2002, with the lawless officials constantly harassing and closely monitoring her, thus putting her under lots of pressure.

In March 2005, policemen Long Lianghui (male), and others from Sanqu Town Station stormed into her house and ransacked it, finding nothing. They left without any explanation. Ms. Deng went to the Dazu County Police Department and Sanqu Town Police Station to reason with them, but got no results. This incident caused her mental anguish and made it impossible for her to sleep. Because of this she became thin and weak and finally died on July 25, 2005.

Officers from the Xiliuhe Town Police Station arrested Ms. Zhan Jingmei, a Falun Gong practitioner, while she was distributing flyers. She is currently jailed at the Wuhan Female Forced Labor Camp. Ms. Fan Junxia is also jailed there.

At around 10 a.m. on July 13, 2005, officers from the Paotai Town Sub-department Police Station arrested Ms. Zhang Enqin, a Falun Gong practitioner from Paotai Town, Wafangdian, Dalian City, Liaoning Province at her home. Her husband was at home and seriously ill at the time.

Officers from Xinjian South Street Police Station in Datong City detained Ms. Cui Rongying, a Falun Gong practitioner from Datong City, Shanxi Province, after she they tricked her into going to the Police Station. She is currently jailed in the No. 6 Ward of the Datong No. 1 Detention Center.

Ms. Cui was arrested because her previous neighbor, Ms. Ren, had practiced Falun Gong with her before 1999. After the persecution started on July 20, 1999, she stopped practicing the exercises, fearing pressure from the government. After that, Ms. Ren's health deteriorated and hospital treatments could not cure her. Ms. Ren wanted to practice Falun Gong again and called Ms. Cui, asking for the exercise tapes and CD. Seeing this, Ms. Ren's son, Gao Jianxun, was not happy and threatened to have Ms. Cui arrested. Gao Jianxun arranged for the family nanny, Bai Li, to collect evidence against Ms. Cui. On June 7, 2005, without any concrete evidence, and with only some verbal information about Ms. Cui and Ms. Ren provided by Bai Li, officers from the Police Station arrested Ms. Cui Rongying

5. [Yi County, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhao Zhiqin Arrested for Practicing Falun Gong

On July 21, 2005, four police officers led by Wu Fengpo from Yi County, Hebei Province arrested Ms. Zhao Zhiqin from Xishan North Township.

Ms Zhao Zhiqin, 50 years old, lives in Gangli Village, Xishan North Township, Yi County, Hebei Province. Before 1996 Ms. Zhao's health was bad. She suffered from heart disease, nephritis, tracheitis, and pains in her abdomen and legs. She went to many places looking for a cure, but nothing worked. Only when she started practicing Falun Gong in 1996, did she start to recover her health. Within less than 3 month she became completely healthy. Many people witnessed the improvement in her health.

Ms. Zhao adheres to Falun Gong's requirements, following the nature of the universe, "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance." Since she began practicing Falun Gong, her whole family has been in harmony, and their relationship with their neighbors is also very good. Many people around her improved their morality under her influence. Everyone praises her.

6. [Hengyang, Hunan Province] The Couple, Mr. Wang Jiding and Ms. Xiao Dongmei, Arrested

After Mr. Wang Jiding and his wife, Ms. Xiao Dongmei, were arrested and taken to the Hengyang Shigu Police Sub-department, he was hung up and beaten for two days and nights. This torture left his arms swollen and in pain. A medical checkup showed that Ms. Xiao had blood in her urine. The couple is still being detained in the Wangjiawan Detention Center. Mr. Wang has been on a hunger strike for at least 19 days, from July 17, 2005, until the date this news was sent out (August 4).

7. [Nanchang, Jiangxi Province] Liu Yongying Arrested at Home

Around 11:00 p.m. on June 21, 2005, 7 or 8 police officers broke into Liu Yongyin's home in a dormitory of Nanchang University. To get in, they pretended they were checking registered permanent addresses. Then they started to ransack the place. They confiscated one computer, one printer, one MP3 mini player, one cell phone and one truth-clarification booklet. They took Liu Yongying to the Qingshanhu Police Sub-department. The next day, the same officers suddenly burst into Liu's workplace and ransacked that as well. Currently Liu Yongying is being detained at the Nanchang No.1 Detention Center.

Ms. Yang Luan Ying, over 60 years old, is a retired staff member of the Jianshui County People's Hospital in Yunnan Province. Because she firmly practices Falun Gong and clarifies the truth to people, she was arrested in April 2002 and was sentenced to 3 years in prison. Her prison term has expired, but because she will not give up practicing Falun Gong, she is still being detained in the Kunming Dabanqiao Female Forced Labor Camp. Recently the director of Ms. Yang's workplace, the Jianshui County People's Hospital, came to the Forced Labor Camp to threaten her, "If you continue the practice, the company will stop paying you and take back your housing." During Ms. Yang's prison term, her work place has only issued her minimum living expenses.

9. [Zunhua City, Hebei Province] Mr. Li Haidong Suffers Brutal Torture

Mr. Li Haidong, about 30 years old, graduated from Hebei Polytechnic University. Officers from the Hebei Zunhua Police Department arrested him in 2003 for making truth clarification materials. He was interrogated overnight and was brutally tortured by the Zunhua Criminal Unit. When he went on a hunger strike in the Zunhua Detention Center to protest the persecution, he was forced to eat dog food. Later he was sentenced to 3 years in prison and was detained at the Tangshan Hehuakeng Forced Labor Camp. There, officers Wang Yulin, and Li Xiaozhong locked him in special cell and tied him to a Death Bed (1) several times.

After 3 years of torture, Li Haidong was directly sent to a brainwashing center, previously called Tangshan Textile University.

(1) The practitioner is tied to a bed, which is usually just a board, for weeks with all four limbs stretched out and locked so they cannot move at all. Women are even kept tied to the bed while menstruating. The practitioner is tied down at all times, having to be fed by someone else. Sleeping and excreting are all done on the bed; for this reason the practitioner is often stripped naked. The practitioner suffers not only from solitary confinement, but also from the excruciating pain of feeling his whole body atrophying. Many practitioners have lost their lives from this torture

10. [Henan Province] The Police Refused Mr. Yang Zhongbo's Request to Visit His Seriously Ill Wife; Later They Refused to Let Mr. Yang Attend His Wife's Funeral

On May 28, 2005, officers from the Neihuang County Police Department in Henan Province arrested Mr. Yang Zhongbo, a Falun Gong practitioner in Zhengzhou City, because he clarified truth to others. His family members asked many times to visit him but their requests were always rejected. During that period, his wife, Ms. Li Shufeng, who was seriously ill, could not take the fact that her husband was being detained. Her illness quickly worsened. She died at the end of July, leaving behind a teenage son and a parent over 80 years old. The police refused to allow Mr. Yang to attend her funeral.

11. [Langfang, Hebei Province] Ms. Wan Hongxia on Hunger Strike to Protest Being Detained and Brainwashed

In June 2005, the police arrested Ms. Wan Hongxia, a Falun Gong practitioner from Langfang. For nearly two months after that, they detained her in a brainwashing center. Because she refused to be "transformed", she was later transferred to the Langfang Detention Center. Recently, Ms. Wan went on a hunger strike to protest the torture inflicted on her. Ms. He Lihua, 40, was abducted in mid-April 2005 while she passed out truth-clarifying materials, and has since been detained in the Daqing City Detention Center. She held a hunger strike to protest and was then brutally force-fed and tortured. She has been locked in cell #408 in the Daqing City Detention Center for more than four months. The hunger strike caused both physical as well as mental damage to Ms. He. The police have notified her family that they plan to put her on trial on August 11, 2005.

Letter from Prison: Exposing the Crimes in the Heizuizi Women's Prison in Changchun City

Falun Gong practitioners are still being brainwashed in the Heizuizi Women Prison in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Some steadfast practitioners are tortured daily both mentally and physically. Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Fu Deqin (from Songyuan City) is over 60 years old, but the prison guards still torture her mentally using all sorts of means. Ms. Jing Fengyun (in her 50's) has been beaten numerous times, verbally harassed, hung up by her handcuffed wrists, tied up, deprived of sleep, and subjected to other inhuman tortures. Falun Gong practitioners who refuse to write the three statements renouncing Falun Gong are being brainwashed individually while also being tortured with starvation, sleep deprivation, tied to the "dead person's bed" (1), bound with rope, forced to stand for a long time, and denied bedding or personal sanitary supplies. Brainwashing agents closely monitor every practitioner. The brainwashing class is strictly guarded, and no one is allowed to enter or leave. Many horrifying tortures are performed behind closed doors. The prison director, Wu Zeyun (female), has always deceived outsiders regarding the torture of Falun Gong practitioners, and the families of many practitioners are completely unaware of the tortures suffered by their family members.

(1) The four limbs of the practitioner are stretched out and tied to the four corners of a cold metal bed. The practitioner is completely restrained. He is not allowed to get up to eat, drink, or use the bathroom. This treatment can last from several hours to more than ten days. 1. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Elementary School Teacher Ms. Xiu Shufen Imprisoned Several Times for Practicing Falun Gong

Ms. Xiu Shufen, born on August 24, 1962, is a teacher from Heilongjiang Province. She was detained on June 20, 2000, for practicing Falun Gong, and released after 46 days. In the same year, she was arrested on December 15, at Tiananmen Square, and sentenced to one year in a forced labor camp. She was sent to the Heilongjiang Province, Harbin Addictive Drug Cessation Institute on December 23, 2000, and was released after two years. She was tortured brutally during the time in the forced labor camp. After being released, she was not allowed to teach. She received 350 yuan per month as living expenses. On December 20, 2002, Ms. Xiu wrote a letter to the chairman of the Addictive Drug Cessation Institute and asked him to be kind. The chairman reported her to the authorities. She was detained again and sentenced to a forced labor camp for one year. She served her term in the women's section of the Harbin Addictive Drug Cessation Institute. Because Ms. Xiu insists on her beliefs, the guards often beat and tortured her during her imprisonment. She was released and sent home after a year.

2. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Falun Gong Practitioner Mr. Zhai Baoji from Sent to a Forced Labor Camp

On the evening of July 14, 2005, Chaoyang City policemen arrested Mr. Zhai Baoji. He was sent to the Chaoyang City, Shijiahetao Police Station and detained there. The next day, police officers from the Chaoyang City Police Station searched his home and his wife's shop. The police officers who did the search fabricated evidence and reported it to the city police department. Qi Yuijing, the assistant chief of the city police department, was in charge of this case. He asked the Chaoyuong City Police Department for permission to send Mr. Zhai to a forced labor camp. On August 5, Mr. Zhai was sentenced to two years in a forced labor camp and was sent to the Xidayingzi Labor Camp for further persecution.

3. [Kuan City, Hebei Province] Falun Gong Practitioners Tortured

Police officers from Hebei Province, the Kuan City Police Department, broke into Mr. Liu Zhenlin's home on April 19, 2005. They confiscated all of his Falun Gong materials and detained him. He is still being held. On March 22, 2005, police officers arrested Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Jing Wenguei in the rice fields. They beat him severely during the arrest. The police then tied his hands and took him away. During the detention, they tried to get him to confess by brutally torturing him. They burned Mr. Jing's mouth and chest with an electric baton. Since then he has been suffering from excruciating pain every day.
