Mr. Li Jiabin was a resident of Ganzi Village, Peng Town, Shuangliu County, Chengdu City, Sichuan Province. On August 18, 2004, the local authorities arrested him and sent him to the Shuangliu Detention Center, where he was tortured for 4 months. Then they sent him to the No. 1 People's Hospital and tortured him. They injected him with drugs and beat him for half a month. As a result, Mr. Li's mental clarity was shattered and his entire body became swollen. He died on May 26, 2005.

Mr. Li Jiabin began to practice Falun Gong in 1998. He persisted in his practice and clarified the truth. For that, he was arrested many times by the local 610 Office. The perpetrators illegally detained him and beat him. In August 2002, when Mr. Li was promoting Falun Gong and clarifying the truth to people in Ziyang County, the police arrested him after someone had reported on him. The authorities detained him for a month in the Chengdu Detention Center before sentencing him to 18 months of forced labor. Mr. Li was then detained in Xinhua Forced Labor Camp in Mianyang City. After he was released, persecutors of the Peng Town government and Peng Town Police Station arrested him again in August 2003. They detained him in Zhengxing Brainwashing Center in Shuangliu City until the end of year 2003.

In mid-June 2004, staff of the local 610 Office ransacked his home and arrested him again. This time they detained Mr. Li in a detention center and a brainwashing center for over 4 months, where they tortured him cruelly. As a result, Mr. Li's mind and body was seriously hurt, and he became extremely weak. The perpetrators then sent him to the No. 1 People's Hospital in Shuangliu County, where they constrained Mr. Li with handcuffs and shackles to a bed. Then, they injected a toxic drug three times a day. Because of the drug, Mr. Li's mental faculties were severely compromised, and his entire body became swollen. He could not even stand up.

Before the Spring Festival in 2005 (around January or February 2005), the perpetrators released Mr. Li for medical treatment. After he returned home, Mr. Li was bedridden. He could only walk (even a few steps to the bathroom) with help from his family members. In May 2005, his genital organ (which was injured from the torture) festered and pus was excreted. He passed away on May 26, 2005.

Several Falun Gong practitioners from Chuanying District, Jilin City, have been taken to a brainwashing center at the "guest house" of the Chunguang Dairy Company in Jilin City. Many steadfast Falun Gong practitioners went on a hunger strike to resist the illegal detention and persecution by the lawless officials. As far as we know, the situation is very urgent because several practitioners have had nothing to eat or drink for days.

Two days ago, a doctor was called to the brainwashing center. After arriving at the scene, the doctor realized his job was to provide an intravenous drip to those practitioners whose lives were in danger from not taking any food or water for many days. Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Wang Ying from Changchun Road, a neighborhood of Chuanying District, is confirmed to be one of the practitioners currently on a hunger strike.

Since July 20, 1999, the lawless Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials of the Chuanying District, Jilin City have continuously persecuted Falun Gong practitioners. In September of 1999, CCP officials set up their first brainwashing center in Jilin City, Chuanying District at the Xingsheng Inn. Since then, at least twelve Falun Gong practitioners have been confirmed as being tortured to death in Chuanying District, including Yu Lixin, Cui Zhengshu, Li Zaiji, Liu Mingke, Wang Xiufen, Cui Zhongxuan, Liu Yuzhu, Xia Guiqin, Yu Chunhai, Wang Lixin, Jin Huili, Hou Mingkai and Qu Junli. Many practitioners have been given severe sentences and numerous others have been sent to forced labor camps and brainwashing centers.

In May of 2005, Zhang Xiaolan (female), the Deputy Party Secretary of the Chuanying District Party Committee, Wang Hongtu, the Party Secretary of the District Political and Judiciary Committee, Wang Hongjia, the Deputy Secretary of the Political and Judiciary Committee, and also concurrently the Director of the 610 Office, Pang Jiang, the Director of the District Justice Bureau and other CCP officials collaborated with Qu Jiang, the General Manager of the Chunguang Dairy Pty Ltd., to reach an agreement for turning the company guest house into a brainwashing center for persecuting Falun Gong. In return, the company would receive benefits from the above-mentioned organizations. Each brainwashing class lasts for two months. Several collaborators [former Falun Gong practitioners who have gone astray due to brainwashing and torture] assisted in the brainwashing, including Zhu Jiahui from Changchun (86-13154357536 (cell)) and three women surnamed Wang, Zhao and Fan respectively.

The ruthless officials then instructed the policemen and police sub-stations from the neighborhood committee to arrest a number of Falun Gong practitioners. They locked practitioners into the Chunguang Dairy Company guesthouse in an attempt to brainwash them and force them to give up their belief in Falun Gong. Each practitioner is overseen by two people from the brainwashing center, and practitioners are not allowed to contact anyone. They are even followed when going to the toilet.

The perpetrators use former practitioners who have turned against Falun Gong to try to confuse the steadfast practitioners. Whenever a Falun Gong practitioner first arrives, several collaborators surround the practitioner and forbid him or her to speak. They speak nonsense about Falun Gong from time to time. Officials at the brainwashing center would often cut in and slander Falun Gong, spreading their poisonous lies. Bit by bit they work to lead the practitioners along their train of thought and entrap the practitioners. Practitioners Ms. Yu Shuchen (86-432-2013806 (Home)) and Ms. Li Yulian (86-432-2058776 (Home)) compromised with the evil against their own will. In order to cover up their crimes, the persecutors collaborated with General Manager Qu Jiang to trick the visiting families of practitioners. Qu Jiang would appear to be a very kind person, offering the practitioners fresh milk produced by the company and entertaining the visiting families, all the while trying to cover up the persecution.

Over the past few years, the lawless officials of the Chuanying District Party Committee have always listed the persecution of Falun Gong as their number one priority. They have even made falsified reports to the city and provincial Party Committees to exaggerate their achievements. They claimed that the district has successfully "transformed" 80 percent of the Falun Gong practitioners under its jurisdiction; however the fact is that many more Falun Gong practitioners are still steadfast in their practice.

June 20^th this year is the 5^th "International Refugee Day." We cannot help but think of Ms. Zhang Xinyi, a teacher in Changsha City, Hunan Province, who was detained by police after being repatriated to China by the Cambodian government acting in collusion with the Chinese embassy in Cambodia.

Ms Zhang Xinyi

In June of 1998, Zhang Xinyi went to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, to teach Chinese in a Chinese school there. Her husband Li Guojun joined her in Phnom Penh in July the same year. In July 2002, both Ms. Zhang and her husband's jobs were terminated after they were reported to the authorities for distributing truth clarification literature. At the same time, all the Chinese schools were ordered not to hire them. At that time, the Chinese embassy in Cambodia received Ms Zhang's passport renewal processing fee, but they refused to process her renewal request. Under the circumstances, Ms. Zhang was force to find the United Nations Refugee organization in Phnom Penh. The head office of the United Nations Refugee office immediately issued a document to protect both Ms Zhang and her husband.

On August 2, 2002, about seven or eight policemen suddenly broke into Ms Zhang's home at 139 Road 1FE, Phnom Penh. Both Ms. Zhang and her husband were arrested and sent to a prison operated by the immigration department, even after they showed their United Nations protection document. The police made it clear that they were acting under demands from the Chinese embassy. On August 5, 2002, Ms Zhang and her husband were sent back to China. Due to international pressure, both of them were released on bail after being jailed for one month, but they never get their passports back from the Chinese authorities.

Ms. Zhang was again arrested on April 28. She has been held at the Changsha Detention Center for almost two months. The police claimed that they would sentence Ms. Zhang and put her in prison this time.

Ms. Zhang's experience validates once again that the Chinese Communist government ignores democracy and human rights. They disregard the United Nations International Covenant on Human Rights and international human rights law. We call on people to uphold justice and righteousness, and for international organizations to continue to work to rescue Ms Zhang.

Falun Gong practitioner Ku is from Cui Village, Qiaomeng Township in Qi County of Henan Province. He bought a set of New Year scrolls and posted them on the gate of his house for the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year's Day) of 2005. Since they contained the word "compassion," the local police beat him so viciously that he had difficulty speaking. Ku was then sentenced to two years of forced labor and is still being detained in a forced labor camp, where he is often beaten by prisoners with support from the guards. He is on the verge of death.

After he went to Beijing to appeal for justice Falun Gong in 2000, Ku was arrested and sentenced to four years of forced labor. Six months after he was released in June 2004, county officials got three people from the city to beat him cruelly. He was carried out on a stretcher and could only speak one sentence to his wife, "I probably won't be able to come back again this time."

Ku has been detained in a large prison, the name of which is unknown, in Xuchang City, Henan Province. The prison officers tried to force him to write a Guarantee Statement, but he refused, so they goaded the prisoners to beat him severely.

Even though his life may be in danger, the prison is demanding 20,000 yuan to release him. Ku's family members are farmers and not well off financially, while his son is an hourly worker. They have little means to defend their rights.

An elderly lady in her eighties, from Jiujiang County, passed away in a state of extreme fear after witnessing the illegal arrest of her daughter. The group of thugs broke in to her home twice. The first time they forcibly removed her daughter and the second, they searched her home.

Ms. He Rongtao, a Falun Gong practitioner in Jiujiang County, went to her hometown on February 14, 2000, to visit her mother and child. Even though her mother was 83 years old, she looked relatively young and could handle housework on her own.

The next morning, Ms. He planned to return on a 7:20 a.m. bus, however, the bus was cancelled because new soldiers needed transportation. So Ms. He was forced to return to her mother's home. Before she entered the house, she heard loud noises coming from inside. She discovered four security guards from the Township government illegally searching her mother's place.

He's mother was terrified by the thugs' violent behavior. She looked pale and was trembling. He Rongtao tried to hold her mother. However, two security guards forcibly seized her. She asked, "What is this all about? Why did you break into a private residence? Do you have a warrant? How dare you scare my mother so much!"

As it turned out, the night before, the police had found numerous Falun Gong posters on buildings around town and flyers at different residences. They suspected He Rongtao of doing it, so they forcibly took her to the township government building. But, the police could not get her to confess to anything. They then went back to her mother's place and searched the house again. This time more people participated in the search, including police from the police substation. He's mother was extremely scared and fell ill. Not long after, her mother heard that Zhang Maoxing, a Falun Gong practitioner in the village, had been tortured to death during detention. This news terrified her even worse. On January 11, 2001, she passed away.

Mr. Liu Fengchun

Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Liu Fengchun was one of the "Top Ten Schoolteachers of the Year," the "Excellent Young Schoolteacher of Changyi Precinct," Chairman of Education at Changyi Precinct's Lianhua Elementary School, and a top-level schoolteacher. However, Lianhua Elementary School suspended him from his post when he refused to give up his personal, spiritual belief in Falun Gong. To make ends meet, Mr. Liu had no choice but to work as a salesman and a janitor. Eventually, they forced him to resign. The day that the school's shameful acts were exposed on the Minghui website (the Chinese version of Clearwisdom), many kindhearted people outside of China saw the news and called the school's principal Mr. Mou Zongliang and its schoolteachers that afternoon to question their unjust behavior. Afterwards, the principal, the school's Party Secretary Ms. Hou Li, and the Chairman of the Laws and Regulations Department of Changyi Precinct's Education Bureau Mr. Li Guangyin plotted together to conceal their subsequent plan to pressure Mr. Liu Fengchun into giving up his belief in Falun Gong.

The principal thought he would be able to force Mr. Liu to resign if he demoted him from a teacher to a janitor at the school. His assumption was that Mr. Liu, an excellent teacher, wouldn't want to work as a janitor and would voluntarily leave the school. It was not until the principal received overseas phone calls that afternoon that he realized that the whole world now knew what he had done to Mr. Liu to force him to resign. Out of fear, embarrassment, and anger, he immediately phoned Mr. Liu and shouted over the phone, "Did I suspend you from your position? It's the school's Party Committee's decision!" Mr. Liu replied, "You are the school principal. You know very well that you are one of the decision makers."

Early the next morning, Mou Zongliang asked Mr. Liu to meet him at school. They talked from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Mou told Mr. Liu that he had received many phone calls and text messages on his mobile phone. Mou behaved with unusual politeness to Mr. Liu. He said, "I have your resignation letter. I have not processed it." During the meeting, Mr. Liu repeatedly clarified the truth about Falun Gong to Mou. He also told the principal, "If the school will make reasonable arrangements for my return, I will be glad to return to work." Mou replied, "You may return to work, but there are a few conditions."

In order to appease the anticipated public criticism after Mr. Liu's return, the school management spread a malicious rumor among the schoolteachers that Mr. Liu had gone on a strike and that they did not suspend him from work.

The school principal Mou Zongliang, the school's Party Secretary Hou Li, and the Chairman of the Laws and Regulations Department of Changyi Precinct's Education Bureau Li Guangyin were in on the plot together. On June 9, 2005, Mou Zongliang and Hou Li asked Mr. Liu Fengchun to visit Changyi Precinct's Education Bureau with them. They told him that the bureau wished to see all three of them. As soon as they arrived at the bureau, however, Mou and Hou left. Li Guangyin came out and met with Mr. Liu alone. Li Guangyin had obviously approved of the suspension and tried to cover up for Mou by shifting the guilt to the victim. He started the meeting by asking Mr. Liu, "Who gave you the right to miss work for a month?" Next he said, "You will do what the school tells you to do. It is your problem if you refuse to follow orders. The Education Bureau now orders to you work as a janitor." In the face of these wrongful accusations, Mr. Liu did not back off. He told Li Guangyin, "I will not accept any unreasonable, unlawful arrangement." Li Guangyin became impatient and told Mr. Liu, "You are welcome to take the case up with the Head of the Education Bureau or even the Party Secretary of the bureau."

When they returned from the bureau on June 9, Hou Li ordered him to return to school immediately for janitorial work. In the afternoon, he returned to the schoolteacher's lounge. His former colleagues were surprised to see him and asked, "Why did you resign without telling us first?" Mr. Liu told them the truth, that the school principal and the school's Party Secretary had made him a janitor. They were very upset about what was done to him.

On June 10, Mr. Liu went to school to wait for his work order, but Hou Li told him that he must continue to work as a janitor. She also made him move his belongings to the dispatcher's office (similar to the front door/school guard's room) and told him that would be his "office." Mr. Liu went to Mou directly and questioned him about the arrangement. Mou told him, "It is the Party Secretary's decision. It is none of my business. They have made a decision. You should continue to work as a janitor."

In the morning on June 13, 2005, Mr. Liu went to see Li Guangyin again to question him about the unreasonable work arrangement. Li Guangyin told him, "If you promise not to practice Falun Gong in writing, you will have your job back. Otherwise, you will continue to work as a janitor." Mr. Liu answered, "I will never give up practicing Falun Gong. You must reinstate me as a schoolteacher."

Mr. Liu Fengchun has decided that he has done nothing wrong in practicing Falun Gong or following Falun Gong's principles of Truth-Compassion-Forbearance. In order to protect his rights, he is preparing to appeal his case.

Practitioner Mr. Yu Jianhua Disappeared in 2001

Mr. Yu Jianhua, 63 years of age, is a Falun Gong practitioner from Qiting Township, Macheng City in Hubei Province. Local police have illegally arrested him several times since July 20, 1999. They deprived him of food for three days, stripped him, and hung him up and beat him. The last time, in December 2000, he was arrested and detained in the Macheng City First Detention Center. Five months later the police extorted 2000 yuan from his family after the Shizishan Forced Labor Camp refused to accept him for health reasons. After he returned home, the local police frequently went there to harass him. Under such huge pressure, Yu Jianhua had to leave home on August 23, 2001. No one currently knows his whereabouts.

Mr. Du Shangwu and Mr. Zhao Shouhong from Anhui Province Have Disappeared for Several Years

Mr. Du Shangbing, 32 years of age in 2001, was a policeman from the Suixi County Police Department in Anhui Province. Officers of the Beijing City Police Department arrested him when he displayed a Falun Gong banner in Tiananmen Square on September 24, 2001.

Mr. Zhao Shouhong, a policeman from the Yingzhou Police Department of Fuyang City in Anhui Province, was arrested by Beijing City Police Department officers when he was distributing Falun Gong truth clarifying materials with a fellow practitioner in Tiananmen Square on November 7, 2001.

Neither Du Shangbing nor Zhao Shouhong have been heard from since, and no one knows their whereabouts.

1. [Chongqing, Sichuan Province] Ms. Zhan Zhihui and Five Others from Banan District Were Arrested

On May 26, 2005, Ms. Zhan Zhihui, Xu Xia, Meng Xuetao, Xiao Tan and three other people gathered together in a house rented by Xu Xia in Lijiatuo, Banan District, Chongqin City, to study the Falun Gong books and share experiences. They were reported, and the local police arrested them. It was said that they are being illegally detained in the Yudong Detention Center in the Banan District.

2. [Yongqing County, Hebei Province] The 610 Office Arrested Ms. Shi Yanru

At noon of June 6, 2005, Shi Huanjin, the newly appointed director of the 610 Office of Yongqing County, instructed Wei Wenxing, the secretary of the Political and Judicial Committee of Yangmazhuang Town, and five or six others to arrest Ms. Shi Yanru. They took her by force into a police car and sent her directly to the brainwashing center in the Jiaotong Hotel, Langfang City, to be tortured.

On May 5 and 6, 2005, Ms. Yao Fenghua (47 years old, living at the Family Compounds of the Bureau of Animal Husbandry) and Ms. Wu Shuxia (50 years old) were arrested and their homes ransacked.

In addition, Yang Yugang, the head of the national security group of Zhuozhou City, and several others arrested Ms. Li Huishu, Ms. Li Shuhui (60 years old, living at the North end of the Overpass Bridge East Road, Fanyang City), Mr. Wu Bingqing, Ms. Shi, and Ms. Caiping and her husband and ransacked their homes on June 8, 10, and 14, 2005. These practitioners are being held separately in detention centers and are being subjected to tortures.

4. [Huizhou City, Guangdong Province] Mr. Zhong Jiawen Was Arrested by Police

On the afternoon of June 8, 2005, Mr. Zhong Jiawen from the Meishan Railroad Company of Guangdong Province was arrested at his workplace in Dongwan and sent to the Police Bureau of Huizhou City. His home was searched that evening.

Those who arrested Zhong Jiawen include Xu Zhiping (the head of the first division) from the Police Bureau of Huizhou City, Li Xinmin, and others from the Railway Police Station of Huizhou City.

6. [Laiwu City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Fengyu Was Secretly Sentenced to Nine Years in Jinan City

On May 27, 2005, Ms. Wang Fengyu from Laiwu City was sentenced to nine years in a secret trial in the People's Court of the Tianqiao District of Jinan City. Ms. Wang's family members were not notified before the trial. She is now detained in the Liuchangshan Forced Labor Camp of Jinan City.

7. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Police Arrest Practitioners

On June 10, 2005, when Ms. Lu Shuwen and Ms. Zhang Rongtang from Tangshan City went to the Yuanyang Shopping Center of Tangshan City to distribute truth-clarification materials and the Nine Commentaries on Communist Party, they were reported to the police. The Sub-police Bureau of the High and New Technology Development District of Tangshan City arrested them. They are now detained in the Detention Center of the Police Bureau of Tangshan City.

8. [Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Xiao Yanping and Others Were Subjected to Unlawful Detention

Ms. Xiao Yanping and Ms. Xiao Yanhua gave the Nine Commentaries on Communist Party to their colleagues to read. The colleagues gave the book to the authorities at the Meat Alliance Factory of Nanchang City. The Security Division of the factory sent them to the Xujiafang Police Station. They are now being detained.

9. [Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province] Ms. Jiang Xiaoyan and Another Person Were Subjected to Torture

Ms. Jiang Xiaoyan is 34 years old and comes from Nanchang City. On May 20, 2005, when she went to a fellow practitioner's house to repair an MP3 player, she was reported to the police. The Security Division of the Jiangdong Machinery (the head of the factories and several staff from the security division were present) sent her to the Jingshan Police Station. She was detained only because they found a recent Fa-lecture of our Teacher. In the afternoon, Ms. Jiang's mother and friend Wei Jianyun (also a Falun Gong practitioner) went to the Jingshan Police Station and demanded her unconditional release. The police also detained Wei Jianyun. Now, both of them are detained in the First Detention Center of Nanchang City and are subjected to tortures.

10. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Mr. Zhang Xinnian Was Sent to a Brainwashing Center and Tortured

The Hongshan District 610 Office is responsible for the arrest of Mr. Zhang Xinnian from Wuhan City on June 1, 2005. Recently, he was sent to the Law Education Center of Hubei Province, in reality the Tansunhu Brainwashing Center, where he was subjected to torture.

11. [Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province] Ms. Ke Yuanhong Was Arrested on the Way to Work the Nightshift

On June 7, 2005, Ms. Ke Yuanhong from Yuhang District was arrested on her way to work the nightshift. She is being tortured in the Forest Park Law Study Class of Dongmingshan, Yuhang District, Hangzhou City.

On June 9, 2005, Ms. Yao Yanping from Wuhan City, who suddenly disappeared, had in fact been arrested. She was sent to the Qiaokou Brainwashing Center of Wuhan City and was subjected to torture.

13. [Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Ding Hong from Dongjiao Was Arrested

Ms. Ding Hong from Dongjiao, Xi'an City was unlawfully arrested. She is now detained in the Worker's Medical and Healing Center of Changan County and is being subjected to forced brainwashing.

14. [Yantai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Sun Yanchun and Ms. Zhang Guilan Were Arrested by the 610 Office

Recently, the 610 Office of Yantai City orchestrated the arrests of a large number of Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Sun Yanchun from the Fushan District and Ms. Zhang Guilan from the Zhifu District were unlawfully arrested and sent to a detention center, where they have been tortured.

Ms. Liang Lijie from Changchun City is 35 years old. She is an instructional officer of physics in the Air Force Navigation College of Changchun and a practitioner. She never returned home from work on June 10, 2005.

17. [Tianjin City] Police from the Sub-police Bureau of Xiqing District Arrested Falun Gong Practitioners

On the evening of May 19, 2005, the Sub-police Bureau of Xiqing District, Tianjin City, arrested practitioners Ms. Chen Zhizhong, Mr. Du Jin and his wife, Ms. Hua Liyu and her husband, Mr. Gao Xuewen, and Mr. Li Jingkun. All of them live near the Huotai Small District. None of those arrested have returned home.
